Libzip Needed for RTE on Linux

I know I need the GNU C Libraries to run the RTE (in my case 2011) on Linux.  But I have noticed something.  If I wish to install the RTE from the Developer DVD, it also install NIWebPipe (or something like that) and gives me an issue saying libzip is not on my machine.  However, when I install the RTE from just the .tar file available online, I have no such issue.  Am I better off being safe than sorry and just putting the libzip files on my Linux server?

Hmm...I may have put this in the wrong forum.  Sorry Admin! (currently in LabVIEW)

  • How much RAM needed for the DB box

    Hi,
    Can someone share with me the technical way to do calculation of how much of RAM needed for a new Linux box with estimation of 500 users. I hope this calculation can also allow me to breakdown how much MEMORY needed for each session.
    Please recommend any site that I can refer to if any. TQ.

    My project start with Oracle 9i R2 (9206) on Linux (not yet confirm on the platform and etc). Just assume I will use Linux Red Hat Adv Sever latest version.
    Hence how many GB of memory for the box is sufficient to handle 500 connections. Pls guide me the formula to derive the calculation. TQ

  • Using Oracle driver in JDBC for Unix and Linux based servers

    Please, let me know how to mention the Oracle driver within the forName.class(" "); statement in the Jdbc-Servlet for Unix and Linux based servers.
    I'm using Windows-OS for Java programming. Should I have to use the same environment(Unix/Linux with Oracle) for compiling or just compiling, mentioning the driver in the java program would suffice?
    Please, Help me.
    Thank You.

    Silas eschole.

    I've used Oracle's thin driver like this:
    Class.forName ( "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver" );
    Connection DBConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:USER/PASSWD@database" );
    You need Oracles client classes ( e.g. classes111.zip ) at run time, not during compilation.
    Thin client connects directly to the Oracle DB, so the database description is like PORT:MACHINE:SID
    Connection is made through Oracle's listener even when your DB is in the same machine that your program is running. Port number is propably 1521 or 1526, depending on your listener.ora definitions and used Oracle SQL*Net version.

  • Need to demo Oracle Linux 6

    I need to demo Oracle Linux 6 in order to see if it will be a fit in our hosting environment. Unfortunately I cannot install updates or any packages that were not chosen during the installation process unless I pay for a support contract/machine.
    The main use is to try out the clustering for a High Availability Web/Database environment which would require a minimum of 3 servers. Are there demo licenses to allow for package updates/installs prior to purchasing the contract and wasting money on something that may not work?
    PS - No one in any call centre could answer this simple question and I was directed to this public forum to discuss a private Corporate purchasing inquiry.

    I need to demo Oracle Linux 6 in order to see if it will be a fit in our hosting environment. Unfortunately I cannot install updates or any packages that were not chosen during the installation process unless I pay for a support contract/machine.That is not quite true. Oracle Linux is free to download and free to use for any purpose. You can get the ISO's from http://edelivery.oracle.com/linux or from the http://public-yum.oracle.com YUM repository. You can install or remove RPM packages at will, any combination, any time.
    Oracle support (patches, updates, and such) does cost, Oracle does sell their expertise in this way.
    The way to engage Oracle is to ask Oracle Sales for a "proof of concept" arrangement. They can help you make sure your setup is valid, supported, and that your test is successful. Oracle support personnel do not get involved with licensing or evaluations, so no wonder you got no joy via that path.
    Go sales. Go early :)

  • Is udev all that is needed for automounting?

    Hi All,
    As soon as my new hard drive shows, I'm planning on installing Arch on it, and I was hoping to clear up some confusion before then. While i'm not necessarily a linux noob, gnome has covered up alot of stuff that I'll need to know for the switch to arch so I am pretty nooby to the stuff that happens deep down in the bowels of my computer. I've been reading around about udev, and it appears that it will handle all device recognition/automounting/ect. If so, do I need hotplug, hal, hwd, ect, ect?
    Right now I am running ubuntu with fluxbox, and gnome-volume-manager takes care of automounting. This works allright, but I would much rather not install gnome along with arch. I've found plenty of articles about setting up udev, and would like to use it exclusivly if possable due to it's ease of use (the keys seem simple enough) and reliability. I am, however, a little confused as to what it actually does when something is connected to the system. Will udev actually reconize that say, a pendrive has been inserted, or does some other program take care of recognition while udev takes care of mounting? Also, I'd still like to use fstab for mounting my static HDD's at boot, does the kernel actually use this file, or do I need another program for this functionality?

    My latest udev rules for usb sticks or usb hard disks automounting (/etc/udev/rules.d/010.udev.rules):
    KERNEL=="sd[b-z]", NAME="%k", SYMLINK+="usbhd-%k", GROUP="users", OPTIONS="last_rule"
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", SYMLINK+="usbhd-%k", GROUP="users", NAME="%k"
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/mkdir -p /media/usbhd-%k"
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/ln -s /media/usbhd-%k /mnt/usbhd-%k"
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", PROGRAM=="/lib/udev/vol_id -t %N", RESULT=="vfat", RUN+="/bin/mount -t vfat -o rw,noauto,sync,dirsync,noexec,nodev,noatime,dmask=000,fmask=111 /dev/%k /media/usbhd-%k", OPTIONS="last_rule"
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/mount -t auto -o rw,noauto,sync,dirsync,noexec,nodev,noatime /dev/%k /media/usbhd-%k", OPTIONS="last_rule"
    ACTION=="remove", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/rm -f /mnt/usbhd-%k"
    ACTION=="remove", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/umount -l /media/usbhd-%k"
    ACTION=="remove", KERNEL=="sd[b-z][0-9]", RUN+="/bin/rmdir /media/usbhd-%k", OPTIONS="last_rule"
    Mr Green reminded me about path change for vol_id which is now /lib/udev/vol_id (was /sbin/vol_id). Tnx. I've changed it in the above rules.
    I have SATA hard disk in my notebook (/dev/sda) so I have to use sd[b-z] for removable media. /dev/sda is mounted normally via fstab. If you don't have any fixed sd* devices in your fstab you can use sb[a-z] everywhere.
    How does udev know when you're about to pull out your USB-stick?
    It doesn't :-) As you can see I'm using mount with several options like sync and dirsync and "lazy umount".
    Usinc sync and dirsync sometimes slows down transfer speed but it's safer than async. Basically it saves data to the device instantly so there is little risk of losing data when you unplug usb stick.
    When you first plug a device these rules create subdirectory in /media, mount every partition found on it to it's own subdirectory and make symlinks from /mnt to /media for each device/partition - this is not required but it's good to have them accessible from both /mnt and /media.
    These rules can detect vfat partition and use different mount options (dmask,fmask) which allows every user to access vfat partition (read and write).
    Any other partition type is mounted with general mount options.
    I have an usb stick with 2 partitions: one vfat and one reiserfs. They both work well with these rules.
    When you unplug the device remove event is generated, /dev/sdX is removed by udev and then the rules umount all partitions with lazy umount (which prevents the panic of applications that still have any file or directory opened from any of umounted partitions).
    Next all directories in /media and symlinks in /mnt are removed.
    This way all you need for automounting is udev rules (no need for fstab items etc.) and you don't need to know in advance how many partitions and what type of filesystems are used.
    I'm using this for most of my linux computers and so far it works quite well. Of course it has some drawbacks (like slower speed) but for me this is clean and simple and I don't have to worry about every ivman/whatever update ;-)

  • Using MS FileSharingTestSuite for TESTING a LINUX Based SMB/CIFS implementation.

    Hi,
    I was trying to setup the MS File Sharing test suite for testing the below implementation.
    Could please let me know if this use-case is supported. If not could please point me to
    resources [Microsoft] which could help achieve this purpose effectively.
    I want to test CIFS File server implementation running on Linux [SUSE Linux - Open Enterprise Server]
    The client accessing the file services from above
    CIFS server implementation is vastly
    Windows clients.
    Though would like to know ways of testing if the client is a Linux based desktop or a Mac based client as well in future.
    For the above setup details I would like to know if and how we could create a "Driver
    Computer" setup mainly. So we could use the File Sharing test suite to test against this Linux based CIFS server implementation.
    And also the details on setting up the  'System Under Test (SUT)' , if any changes required[from what is documented in the "FileSharing_ServerUserGuide]" to
    achieve the above.
    Could kindly point me in the right direction to help achieve the above testing purpose.
    Please let me know in case any details are required to help resolve the query.
    Thanks for your time and help.
    Regards,
    Kavitha A

    Hi,
    Thanks for your time.
    I am actually talking about using file sharing test suite provided My microsoft for testing a Linux Based CIFS/SMB implementation.
    I have got my query answered via Mail from Microsoft dochelp team. hence marking this as resolved.
    Posting the response /resolution from DOcHelp team on this thread for benefit of anyone looking for similar information/understanding:
    If you are testing in a Workgroup scenario you need a Driver Computer and the System Under Test (SUT) computer.
    In a domain-joined scenario, you need a DC somewhere in your environment to join the machines.
    The guide document that comes with the test suite package provides guidance on what needs to be configured in each scenario.
    The Driver Computer is the Windows machine where the synthetic test suite runs and simulates a client by emitting the protocol packets. The client sends packets to the file server
    (the SUT) to test the server implementation of the protocol.
    The SUT implements the server side of the protocol and the SUT can be running on any operating system.
    For your convenience, you can setup a Windows SUT just for the purpose of understanding the test configuration on the driver client.
    The document has instructions for Windows SUT and guidelines for non-Windows SUT as well. In your case, it’s a non-Windows SUT. You need to configure your server where your file
    server implementation is running and setup the Driver computer to test your SUT.
    I understand that your ultimate goal is to setup your own SUT on the SUSE Linux server.
    Many customers have setup SUTs on CentOS, Ubuntu, etc. The flavor of the operating system is not relevant as such. The client simulator talks the SUT by following the protocol
    packets.
    Please go through the document step-by-step and I am sure it will come together.
    Let’s me know whether you have any further questions.
    I am not looking at CIFS share access from a Linux system. Otherwise would have posted in relevant Linux forums If looking for the same information. Thanks again for taking time to help though.

    Better provisioning in Windows client: Remember templates for the Start Screen - like the need for categorization (taxonomy) in the Start Menu ...
    Like my previous suggestion about categories alike Linux to clean up the mess in the start menu:
    Please help new users to use the Start Screen in valuable way - demonstrate the value.
    You don't sell SharePoint with a completely unorded randomized site hierarchy - and without any templates.
    Not content - but abstract content like templates are everything when you need to learn to use ... i.e. a new product like the Start Screen. It gets you started right away. A like Word as well.
    Please bring order and form to the content. I.e. T E M P L A T E S parsing the layout of the tiles.
    Have context switching for virtualization working with the virtual desktop mode. So I only see those tiles that are in context with my actual workflow.
    Of course you would need a well-made taxonomy for apps - i.e. subclassed.

  • How can I build app's for RTE 8.0 with Labview 8.2

    Is there a possibility to build applications with LabView 8.2 in a way to execute them with the RTE 8.0. It's not a problem to save the sourcecode as LabView 8.0 format, but if I build this code e.g as  *.exe and try to execute with RTE 8.0 an error occured. The errormessage is, that it's not possible to execute an file created for RTE 8.2 with RTE 8.0. What is to do to build an RTE 8.0 compatible application?

    Applications written for 8.0 will only run with the 8.0 rte. New applications written for 8.2 will run only with the 8.2 rte. Your internal support doesn't know what it is talking about if they think otherwise. No need to upgrade the rte unless you paln to rebuild the 8.0 apps with 8.2. Both run times can be installed on the same pc if the old apps are working. Not much reason to change unless they need to be edited and you use 8.2 as the editor. I would image that if you build a new app in 8.2, it would have to undergo the same quality check as the 8.0 applications.
    You are able to do a save as for 8.0 so that users with 8.0 can open them and use them with the older version. It's simply not possible for a newer development environment to target a build for an older run-time. Before you even do a build, the source code is compiled for the version you are currently using. The only way to swithc compilers is to switch versions of LabVIEW.

    I am planning to buy a high performance PC to run my Windows and Linux servers as vitrual machines for my testing purposes.
    Initially i planned to build my own computer with recommended configurations but considering space constaints and cooling factors i think Mac Pro can be a choice. But need some inputs if Mac pro (Intel Xeon E5, 12 GB RAM) is good for running virtual Machines.

    You could even run Windows natively and still run your VM servers.
    I have seen reports and such on MacRumors and elsewhere - run Windows natively as well as VMs (can also do testing and run Mavericks in a VM under Mavericks)
    The fast internal PCIe-SSD, plus 6 or 8 cores, and 32-64GB RAM. Of course for $5,000 for 8-core, some Thunderbolt storage and 32GB/64GB RAM you can buy some serious hardware.

  • SDXC card support for cRIO 9031 Linux Real Time

    The cRIO9031 with Linux Real Time did not support SDXC cards. Only SDGC with a maximum of 32GB supported by cRIO.
    For logging application their is a need for more than 32GB => use of SDXC cards with 128/256 GB

    Hi Schott,
    Unfortunately, Linux does not have native (in kernel source) support for the exFAT filesystem (required for a device to be labled SDXC). As soon as such a filesystem is supported in Linux, we can enable direct support for exFAT.
    In the meantime, there is nothing preventing you from formatting the card in a filesystem type that is supported on the target. FAT32 is unfortunately the most portable, accessible format, of course if you don't need to access the contents of the card from a Windows machine, you can use some of the tools on the RT controller to format the card in a more robust, journalling filesystem such as EXT4.

    To reinforce what was mentioned in the first response...
    There is no "urgent" in these forums and your statement that everyone must jump to your request just because you say so is rude.
    You have been a viewer of these user-to-user OTN forums for more than a year. That is far long enough to know better.
    For the future, whenever you have a critical business need for information, you will need to use your support credentials and log a SR ro Oracle Technical Support. Be prepared each time to prove to them that such a need exists.

  • Which version of Workshop to use with WebLogic Server 10.0 for 64-bit Linux

    I've downloaded and installed the 64-bit version of WebLogic Server for Linux. It is running on a 64-bit Xeon RHEL 5 machine with 64-bit Sun JVM.
    During the install, I selected WebLogic Server and Weblogic Workshop but it appears that Workshop was not installed. Apparently, only the Runtime for Workshop was installed. I'm not really sure what good that does for me.
    We need to use the Workshop IDE to develop apps. Is there a 10.0 version of Workshop for 64-bit Linux?

    Hi Anup,
    Maybe you should be a bit more specific about what you want to do. Coherence is just Java and has been supported WebLogic for years in the same way most other third-party Java libraries and APIs are. I first started using Coherence about four or five years ago with WebLogic 8.
