Light leak just above screen in a strip?

Hi,
I've had my iPhone since 3 years ago, and basically, I've been "babying it", keeping it in a protective cover etc.
A few months ago, I noticed that my iPhone has a horizontal strip of light just above the screen. When the screen is active, the edges of the strip display light leakage.
I'll post pics as soon as I can when it's a bit dark, but, has anyone else seen this?

What are you looking for? Your iphone is out of warranty.
You can try restart, reset, restore.

  • Light leak, dust under screen AND dented back.

Two weeks ago I purchased a second generation iPod touch. First thing I noticed after taking it out of the packaging was a rather neat dent on the backplate. I decided not to worry about it, as it would be in a case most of the time and hence it wouldn't be seen. Earlier today I started noticing a lot of dust underneath the glass, though on top of the LCD screen -- INSIDE the iPod. Taking it out of the case for the first time since I got it, I noticed light shining through between the glass and the chrome bezel on the right hand side of the iPod, no doubt this is where the dust got in.
It was bad enough a brand new product was already dented when it was shipped, but I'm really annoyed that it has other hardware flaws as well. I know I cannot prove that Apple dented it, even though I can say I **** well didn't, but the light leak seems like a major hardware flaw, no less when it's letting a huge amount of dust into my AUS$420 device. This has to be able to be fixed under warranty, right?

It was bought from the online Apple Store.
I'm just hoping that they'll do something about it; I know that there's some people that damage things themselves and try and return them, and it affects it for people that do have genuine claims like myself.
One thing that pains me is that I got it as a graduation present from my parents, the second is that this is the THIRD iPod that I've had problems with over 2007 and 2008 (half way through last year my 30GB iPod's hard drive failed, it was only seven months old, and earlier this year my 1st generation iPod touch had to be replaced because it kept freezing). I guess I've just had bad luck, because I've always taken absolute care of my iPods...they've always been in cases, never been dropped, never been in a position where they could be damaged.

  • Light leak on the screen...

I have a week 38 build...got this on 21 September...i noticed recently that i have very slight light leak on top right corner of the screen...very very faint you cant resly tell unless i point somone...i wonder if its a defect...does it even quilify for replacement?

most lcd with backlighting will have the light leak, but not all of them. If you had a monitor, turn off all the light in the dark and see if you have them. My HP 23 inch widescreen HD monitor also has a light leak on all sides when the screen is black and in the dark room but if I am watching a movie or something then I don't even notice the light leak.
Now If you have it set to full brightness you definitely may notice the light leak. While in a low brightness, you won't notice.
Now if you think it's bothering you then it's your decision to replace it or not.

  • HT201210 ipad has dim light and just black screen.Tried ressetting no red bar comes up and no apple icon comes up

    my ipad does not work

    1. Do you have enough free space? Settings/General/Usage.
    2. Did you already do the soft reset: hold the Power button and the Home button at the same time, keep holding, when you see the white apple logo, let go, and let it start up completely.

  • Graphic card & light leak

I'm not sure if it is the graphic card problem but my friend said so.
Sometimes I have lines going acrossing my screen and when that happens I have to move the screen back and forth just to fix it.
My MacBook also has a light leak on my screen, just one tiny spot which annoys me.
Is there a way to fix these problem? I still have my service and support coverage.
If I were to replace the graphic card, will it be covered?
How will they fix my light leak problem?

If you still are covered under warranty or an AppleCare plan that should be covered, assuming you have not damaged the MacBook in some way. Contact Apple at expresslane.apple.com if you are in a country that supports it, or call Apple at the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively, carry your MacBook in to an Apple retail store or authorized service provider to have it looked at.
    Best of luck.

  • Light Leaks and reboots on CLNR.

So my new phone per the great policy was replaced with a refurb. That seems fair. The refurb I noticed has light leaks and the screen appears like it its not tightly sealed all the way around.
A replacement is on the way but not before the nice verizon rep that told me the only way the screen would be loosing adhesiveness, since I did not notice if it was like this from day one, 25 days ago, is humidity or water damage.. Yeah for three weeks I have been watching my mom die, now that is out of the way, i have time to focus on all things thunderbolt... I should be aware of the details of my refurb junk. I am now aware at their discretion they will decide to arbitrarily charge me for something I did not do.  Because adhesives or humans who rebuild these things never fail. Only the user, I guess
Better believe the next one I guess I will need to fine tooth comb it on day one. I was going with the assumption of quality. I was wrong
Rooms to Go does the same thing... We had 3 month old furniture with cushions starting to break down. Did rooms to go say we were sitting on them to hard, maybe they might suggest at 170 pounds I lose some weight as I am 6' 1" and a guy.  No rooms to go replaced 3000 dollars worth of furniture with NEW furniture.  Rooms to go replaced it with a different model, style, etc... since the first did not meet expectations.  They delivered that new set tuesday of this week.
All sarcasm aside, my mother did pass, rooms to go did replace my furniture, and I am waiting to see if I get charged for something I did not do to a defective phone because I did not notice the slight lifting of the screen the day the sub par replacement arrived...
Reading is fundamental and I will only be a verizon customer until this contract expires... There 14 day new replacement policy for sub par equipment is a disservice for the millions of dollars they receive from hard working folks like you and I.
Two companies. One sells 3000 dollar items replaces with no questions. One sells 500 dollar items and continues to make 1500 a year off of thorough recurring billing and gives you junk replacements... Some business model.

    Hello kballard72,
I know how frustrating it must've been for you to experience issues with your device.  Please let us know if you experience any difficulties with your replacement. We are always here to assist.

It means you should take it to the Genius Bar. You will no doubt need to buy an out of warranty replacement.

  • A little light leak...is this normal?

Hi all - attempted to search for this but not much of value came up.
Just got my new 27" iMac i5, and love it. There is, however, a slight "light leak" (if that's the proper term) on the upper part of the screen. It's only visible on a black background.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/timmah123/iMac%20light%20leak/imaclightle ak.jpg
It's only slightly annoying, but if it's not normal, I might want to get it fixed. Thanks for any help.

no, it's not normal. Itunes match has been having server issues the past 2 days. They have said it could be another 24 hours before it's resolved.
in addition, the above is only correct if you have already made sure the songs uploaded correctly and you have 'use cellular data' active in the itunes & music settings.

  • Does the iPhone 5 'light leak' affect function?

I just recently received my white iPhone 5, and I have a small light leak near the power button along the bezel. Does this affect the function of the phone, such as the screen brightness? And Would Verizon replace it?

There may be a possibility it could affect the function but not likely. I would call Apple and report it though as they may replace it, Verizon would send you straight to Apple. Being that this is still such a new product they like to capture new products with hardware problems.

  • Iphone 5s had white light leaks on lcd after unlocked with touch id

My iphone 5s had white light leaks on lcd after unlocked with touch id. It's a bit confusing because if I unlock with passcode, there's no white light leaks. Does anyone have the same issue? What should I do?

Title: Burst of White Light on iPhone 5S and iPhone 6
    Description:
On unlocking the device with Touch ID a burst of white light is produced from the Top Left/Right corners of the screen.
It happens when more than two folders are created i.e three/four folders each having some applications and the phone is locked while on the same screen.
If no folder or maximum two folders are created then no such burst is produced when unlocking with Touch ID.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Configure Touch ID
    2. Use Black/Dark wallpaper on Home & Lock Screen.
    3. Create minimum four folders either on the home screen or the second having some applications in each.
    4. Being on Home Screen lock the phone.
    5. Unlock with Touch ID and a Burst of White Light will appear on Top Left/Right Corner.
    6. Now move/drag two of the folders to the other second page.
    7. Go back to Home Screen and lock the phone.
    8. Unlock with Touch ID and there is no Burst of White Light.
                        OR
Repeat step 1 and 2 as listed above.
    1. Go to the second screen (after home screen) and create three or four folders with applications in it.
    2. Lock the iPhone while on the same screen.
    3. Unlock with Touch ID and there is a Burst of White Light.
    4. Now drag or remove the folders with only two left.
    5. Lock the iPhone while on the same screen.
    6. Unlock with Touch ID and there is no Burst of White Light.
NOTE: If iPhone is LOCKED and UNLOCKED when on the screen with no folders NO WHITE BURST is there.
    Problem Since:
Burst of White Light when apps added to a folder and unlocked with Touch ID. This is noticed since the update iOS 7.0.6 [11B651]
    Devices:
The burst of light on iPhone 5s is easily recognized but on iPhone 6 its for a fraction of a second. Not checked on iPhone 6+.

  • T450s Light Leaking around display

Hi to the Lenovo Community! I just purchased the Lenovo T450s Thinkpad from their site. It has a pronounced problem with light leaking around the display frame, especially from the bottom part of the frame. I've seen a PC Mag review that mentions this same problem. I'm wondering if this is a problem with other T450s machines, and if there is a fix for it. I'm trying to contact Lenovo support since this is a brand new system, but would like to know if any other T450s owners are having this problem, or if it may be a general problem with thinkpads or laptops from Lenovo in general. Thanks in advance for any thoughts about this issue! Robert

The article is 10 years old and about a desktop panel with CCFL (not LED) backlight type, there are more pictures http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/dell2005_backlight_fix.htm I wouldn't recommend to do this with notebook panel. Unfortunately you can not fix the LED backlight hype. My 11 years old R51 with 15" SXGA+ IPS CCFL display has almost no backlight bleeding. On the other hand the display lid is 15 mm thick Puppy, Thank you again for your technical insight and expertise. Needless to say, I'm not planning on taking my T450s apart anytime soon! FWIW, I did have limited success with this method, but to anyone reading, I used very, very light pressue, no more than you would use cleaning an LCD screen, and even lighter than that. I did not use the amount of pressure recommended in the thread, nor did I use the tapping. Also, there were many, many responses warning of the permanent damage you could cause to your LCD panel display so I would advise caution!!!!  This is what I did. I used very light back and forth rubbing motions with the tip of my index finger starting furthest away from the bezel, then continuing the same back and forth motions worked my way slowly down toward the bezel. By doing this I was able to reduce the most pronounced light bleeding by about half. Additional rubbing did not improve it further and the rubbing didn't change any of the smaller bleeds at all. While this didn't totally fix the problem, it has made it mostly a non issue for me since I no longer notice it. It could also be that I'm super suggestible and nothing actually changed at all. But that's OK because how I experience my Lenovo is all in my head anyway!

  • Windpad 110W Tablet LCD light leak and dead pixels

    Hello,
I've just received the 110W tablet (I'm in the USA) and the LCD exhibits what I'll call light leak, where the backlight leaks or bleeds through so that when viewing a dark background you can see white light around the perimeter of the display.  The white light is in blotches and shows up around the display in various places.  My tablet most noticeably shows light leak on the left side of the display.  Has anyone else had this problem with their Windpad tablets?
I've seen this in several other tablets I've had (Eee Transformer, Xoom FE), and it may just be something we live with, but I'd like to get your feedback before I return it to find the replacement exhibits the same light leak problem.
Also, how about dead pixels?  Mine has a dead (always black) pixel up at the top of the display which doesn't really bother me at all.  Again, I'm just looking for your experience with these issues.
    Thanks!

Interesting that you would return it for the dead pixel.
Absolutely, on a screen this size it would be very annoying. I have only ever had a dead pixel at work and made them change it.
I have no idea what MSI's dead pixel policy is  though so that may affect whether you can return it or not.

  • Another iPad2 "light leak" "backlight bleeding" "yellowing spots" thread!

I bought the iPad 2, White, 64g WIFI-only, at a Target. As soon as I turned it on, I immediately noticed a yellowish bleeding light from the edge of the display on the bottom right.
Today, I went to an Apple store and showed it to a Genius, who was "shocked" to see it when he took is to a dark room in the back and replaced it with an unopened one.
So I took it home, and guess what happened next? It was WORSE! It had light leaks, backlight bleeding, and yellow spots all over the screen! I drove back to the Apple store and found my Genius who was surprised to see me. He immediately took it the back room and confirmed the issue, yet again. So he gave me a new one.
Guess what happened next. Yup, same problem, not as bad as the 2nd one, about the same as the 1st one I bought from Target. So I went back to the Apple store, and couldn't find my original Genius. A guy called "Scotty" told me that they "ran out" and that I would have to call back on Monday and can "...reserve one if they receive a shipment, because it's an exchange."
I wonder if it's a "white iPad" issue. Some folks online with a black iPad seem to be reporting an issue.
This is quite annoying and cannot wait to get a replacement. I was at the Apple store for 3 hours today. Blah!

I am now on my 4th iPad returned and exchanged.
This time I asked for a black one to replace my white one - which I justified as "maybe this is a white issue, not a black issue, as some people report." That seemed to convince them.
So now I have a black one, which is the color I actually originally wanted anyway. My brother, who is thousands of miles away, told me his black iPad has no leaking whatsoever, which made me think I should try to the black as well.
Guess what, the Black is ALSO affected. No change. I'm tired of going to Apple store at this point. I'll just wait for a few months and exchange this stupid thing. I cant really say I didn't try. And I can't really say Apple Genius guys didn't try either.
