Lightroom 3 fills up my C drive! HELP

hello,
i have a problem that duering work on lightroom 3 my "c" drive is shrinking and fills up to the point where my computer is stuck!
when i restart lightroom, the space is cleared.
a few things:
my catalouge is on drive D (via pref) - a totaly diffrent drive
my RAW cache is located on frive G - a totaly diffrent drive
i use "c" only for OS and software installations.
lightroom VER 3.0 (RAW 6.1)
i use an OCZ Revodrive 240GB (SSD PCIe drive) as my "c" OS drive.
i have noticed that there is a speciphic file that is causeing this:
C:users\"name"\AppData\Local\Temp  and inside the temp folder there is a file:
cr_sdk_0846459.tmp
this file size increaces as i flip images and marking flags or color labels. (not even changes in develop)
i think this happands in photoshop as well just a different file.
this did not happaned before! i just updated my adobe collection in the update center and than lightroom started to behave like this.
computer -
I7-970
24GB RAM
OCZ RevoDrive for OS
i'll appreciate any help
tnx.

I suggest updaing to LR version 3.4 RC, and then check size of the CR_SDK temp file. There's a post here that discusses a simliar issue:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/762825#3331807
Dan Tull says:
FWIW, though it is not reflected in the release notes, a fix for this bug was included in 3.4 RC -- I cannot be sure that all forms of slowness which result in a large scratch file are fixed, but the one I had cornered is very dead in the 3.4 RC build (some were seeing more severe scratch file bloat than I witnessed, though in at least one case the slowdown was comparable). The fix was one that could definitely broad impact.
I don't know if anybody is still watching this thread, but if you were previously seeing this issue, definitely give 3.4 a spin and post your updates.
Thanks -- DT
You may also have to move other files or uninstall applications off of the SSD to free up some more C: drive space for LR.

  • Lightroom problem!!! Can someone help please???

    Hi All,
Just bought a new computer 2 wks ago & installed Lightroom 3.0.  I've used it only 3 times & when I went to open it to edit today  I get the message "Opening Catalog:Img 2136_cr2.Ircat"  then a window pops up saying that a problem caused the program to stop working.  windows will close the program & notify you if a solution is availble."  Can anyone help me with this.  I'm new to LR .  This is very discouraging ...maybe should just use PScs5 instead.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks kimkl

First, I've not had any similar problems, which I know doesn't help you. But I think this isn't a chronic LR problem. Given that file name, I think you must have, at some point, exported a catalog (File / Export as Catalog on a PC). How that got set as your default catalog I'm not sure.
    Anyway, try this:
Use your computer's search function to find the file in question. Delete it. Delete any other files in the same folder, EXCEPT for any image files, of course.
Now restart LR.  It will come up with a message that says it can't find the catalog, and give you a choice of creating a new one, or selecting an existing one. If you really have only opened LR 3 times, and haven't done much editing, I'd suggest creating a new one. Otherwise, find the correct catalog file and choose it.
Where is the "correct" catalog? It should be in a folder named Lightroom, normally located in the folder where your images are.
Have you backed up your catalog when exiting LR?  If so, you could follow the advice above, but choose one of the backup .lrcat files.
If worse comes to worse, find and delete ALL files that end in .lrcat and other files that are with them, then restart LR, and select the option to create a new catalog. Be sure to select the option, if it's presented, to always use that catalog when starting LR.
This tutorial isn't exactly about this problem, but it will show you where the catalog files are located and how the dialogs I reference are set up:

If you still have your serial number, look at OLDER previous versions http://www.adobe.com/downloads/other-downloads.html

I am trying to put my iPhone4 into recovery and then will restore it. iTunes starts extracting the software.  But the iPhone reboots and by the time the software has completed extraction, the iPhone can no longer be seen by iTunes.
We have a very small hard drive on our laptop.  Each time iTunes does an extraction, it uses up more space on the C: drive.
Nothing frees up that used drive space. Not closing iTunes or rebooting the computer. Nothing.
How do we release / delete these files?

I  have a new Mac Pro computer and have migrated my files from my older computer to the new computer. In trying to open a Lightroom catalog on an external hard drive  I keep on getting the message "lightroom cannot use the catalog named " " because it is  not writable and cannot be opened. I have fixed all the "permissions" and yet it will still not open. How do I fix this?

    Hello Forum Members,
I figured it out. You have to select  the actual logo of the Lightroom catalog and then click on  "get info" and allow what ever your new user name to "read and write". That worked!

I have a macbook pro with only 128gb of hard drive. I have lightroom installed and all my photos on an external hard drive. Can I store my lightroom library on the external hard drive too?

Yes. Find the LR catalog file by looking in Edit/Catalog Settings/General. Close LR and navigate to that spot. The catalog file is the one that ends in .lrcat - move it to wherever you want. Next to the .lrcat file is a subfolder called Previews.lrdata. You can move that over as well, but if you don't LR will generate new previews. Double-click on the .lrcat file in its new home and LR will open with that catalog. Set Preferences to When Starting Up Use Most Recent Catalog.

No, Lightroom catalogs cannot be on a networked (shared) drive, and they do not support simultaneous multi-user access

I have Lightroom 1.4.1 and I just started shooting the Nikon D700.  I cannot get Lightroom to read my new raw files, help...  Is there a plug in or update I can get?  I can't afford new software after new camera and new lense!

Lightroom 1.4.1 does not support native (NEF) files from the D700 because the camera didn't even exist when it was released. To get support you have two options: upgrade to Lr 2.x (paid for upgrade) or convert your NEF files to DNG.
DNG converter 5.4 can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ (see right hand side of page)

  • Moving from synced Lightroom mobile collection to external hard drive collection

How do I move "From Lightroom Mobile" Catalogues to external NAS drive?
Mobile workflow is: Take photos with iPhone an adding them to collections on Lighroom mobile. Those photos get sync'd to Lightroom on the desktop, creating a catalog on the desktop. However, I organize and keep my photos on a NAS. When I try to go through the "Import" workflow I have, I cannot select the Lightroom mobile catalog(s) that are set up. How do I get that locally stored set of photos off of my desktop and onto the NAS for storage?
    Thanks in advance.

I think I actually have the catalog of NAS photo on the local computer, but my images are stored on the NAS.
Does Lightroom Mobile sync mobile images to the desktop? Or does it keep the original files in the cloud and just reference them from the local catalog? If it downloads the original files, how can I get those on the NAS? I have limited space on my macbook, and am trying to keep all of my images organized in a single location.
In other words, my workflow from my DSLR is: 1)insert SD card 2) import using Lightroom to NAS using import settings 3) view images in Folder pane
What should my workflow be for my iPhone to store them on that same filesystem as above?
    1) sync files to adobe cloud 2) view FROM LR MOBILE Collection in Lightroom 3) ??? (can't figure out how to import to the NAS from the mobile collection)

    2) forget about LR mobile, just do straight import in Lightroom from iPhone to get photos onto NAS?

  • Lightroom pulls up photoshop from backup drive rather than boot drive

I am using the latest versions of Lightroom and Photoshop for Mac.
I back up each night using super duper.  In Lightroom, when I choose to Edit in Photoshop CC 2014, Lightroom loads Photoshop from my backup drive.  The only workaround I have found is to dismount my backup drive.  Is there a place I can go in either lightroom or photoshop to specify from which drive Photoshop should start when Editing from Lightroom.  If I start photoshop first, then Lightroom "finds" the correct Photoshop, but I'd like to actually solve this rather than using a workaround.  BTW, I used Adobe's instructions for uninstalling Lightroom and then re-installed, but that did not solve the problem.

    ANSWER BELOW:
I discovered a work around - super duper has a way to create custom scripts which will NOT back up items you specify.  I went to the backup drive of my main drive and deleted both photoshop CC and lightroom cc.  After running super duper using the custom script (which they explain thoroughly in the latest super duper manual) and NOT backing up either Photoshop or Lightroom (in Applications) things are back to normal.  If I need to reinstall either photoshop or lightroom, I can easily do that from the web.

  • TS3276 I am having an email come back as a recovered email, every 10 seconds filling up my hard drive. I need to stop that from happening.

How do you stop a recovered email from coming back repeatedly? I sent an email to my wife with pictures, it keeps coming back to me every 10 to 15 seconds and is saved to hard drive in the user/mail folder. I need to figure out why it keeps doning this. Would it be my email service(AOL) that is doing this?
    Thanks
    Mark

The solution I found is to set my IMAP accounts (in the Advanced tab) to "Don't keep copies of any messages", then set rules that copy messages to local folders. My setup is pretty complicated, but this would work even if you have just one rule that copies everything into a single local folder. This gets around the problem that the OS warns you about when you use this setting, that Spotlight will no longer be able to search for messages. Spotlight keeps building and caching redundant indexes of IMAP accounts, consuming huge amounts of hard drive space. In my case, because I have tremendous volume of incoming mail and multiple IMAP accounts, this could eat up 30GB in a single afternoon. Unless you regularly quit mail, reboot, and run something like Lion Cache Cleaner, this eventually fills up the hard drive. I'm sure Apple will fix the problem sometime in the future, but, in the meantime, this is a pretty painless work-around.
