Lightroom 4 Tethering Preset Publish -- Automation

Hello,
I have a specific need to shoot tethered in Lightroom, apply some presets, then publish (FTP to two location, publish on FaceBook), and save a copy of the file - that is save the modified file with a new name in a different directory and close that file. Any ideas on how to accomplish this?
Thanks,
Vic

Automator on Mac looks very powerful and can apply a set of actions if a file or folder is added to a specific targeted folder.
I am not a Mac expert.... but I would try the following.
Shoot Tethered, setting up Lightroom with whatever  Lightroom Preset settings you wish to apply. You will have defined in Lightroom where the images are to be stored (Session Folder) and defined in your camera if you are using Raw / Jpg.
Create an Automator action, which is activated for any files added to the  Session Folder above. Get Automator to open this file in Photoshop.
You now have two options.
a. Configure Photoshop to apply a set of Photoshop actions you require (possibly triggered by the Open File Event), which may include Raw presets and save your file to your choice of folder , with relevant settings (ie Jpg, psd, resolution, etc)
or b.  There are a whole bunch of pre-configured Automator Photoshop actions which can purchased / trialled / downloaded from the internet (and loads of tutorials).  Some of these may apply the actions / presets you require.  This option has the advantage that you can continue your Automator script delivering the results to ftp / facebook etc. [Here is an example of such actions... http://www.robotphotoshop.com/?page_id=8 ... ps. I have no connection to this site or author, it was just the first site I found using google with photoshop / automator).
Using Apple or Java scripts with Photoshop scripting language is an extremely powerful alternative... but unless you are familiar with script writing / photoshop object models, etc... it is not for the faint hearted.
Automator with Photoshop should give you a lot of options.
As I said at the top,  I am not aware of a scripting tool within Lighroom, hence the suggestion to use Photoshop and apply raw presets or any other changes using the full power of Photoshop.

Okay so I should be asking Adobe direct, thanks.
I did find that Nikon released the developer software for the D4S back in february so just could'nt uderstand the delay especially as adobe never seems to be late taking my money each month.

  • Please help! EVERY TIME I open Lightroom, my purchased presets are gone!

This is getting really annoying! I back-up my catalogs, but even then, once I reopen Lightroom my purchased presets are gone. If I open my previous catalogs, the presets are not there, so all the photos I edited using those presets are returned back to their original forms. I always have to redownload all my presets, and it's bugging me so much since I'm on time constraints! What is wrong with my Lightroom?!
Also, every time I open my Lightroom program, the "Purchase Lightroom: I have a serial number/Trial version" pop-up shows. I always have to reenter my Lightroom serial number. >:( Am I doing something wrong?? Thank you.

It's probably some Sony bloatware on your Vaio. Vaio owners world-wide have been battling this problem since 2008. It's some bad Sony software that deliberately attacks itunes. Apparently a while back, you launched the Sony media center that came pre-installed on your machine, and ever since, iTunes hasn't been able to properly save its library database.
Upgrade the Vaio Media software, as mentioned here:

  • Lightroom 5 will not publish a new gallery to SmugMug.

Lightroom 5 will not publish a new gallery to SmugMug. It will allow me to add new pictures to an existing gallery, but I get the message "Failed to create an album on SmugMug. Please try again or contact support." I have never previously had a problem like this, Lightroom has always worked seemlessly with SmugMug. The latest version of the SmugMug plug in is installed. Any help would be appreciated as I do have some galleries to put up and this is killing my workflow. Thank you.

You need to check in Finder using get info (command-I). Make sure that the destination that you have set in Lightroom has write permissions for you. Also double check that the destination is really in the right place and not trying to write into a root folder on your main hard drive or some such.

  • Lightroom 4 tethering unusable with Nikon D800

I am on LR 4.4 using Nikon D800E.
I had been using LR tethered with some intermittent locking issues since LR 3 with my Nikon D300.
About 4 months ago, I purchased a Nikon D800E and started to use it tethered (as I had done with the D300) with LR 4.
It would lock up consistently and I would have to reboot the computer to regain functionality. This would happen so many times during a shoot, that tethering just became unusable.
After much testing, It turns out that the problem occurs when the camera's buffer reaches zero. LR consistently is unable to recover from this zero condition. Periodically it will allow one more shot after a bit (as if it tried to recover), but the shot in LR has an esclamation mark by it as damaged data. And at that point it will never recover without a complete computer reboot.
I'm shooting with a team in studio - I can't have LR be this flakey - It is not acceptable to not be able to reach a zero buffer condition while shooting (I'm using Profoto and it can recycle faster than the camera can send to LR). It is not usable in its current state tethered with a Nikon D800. Just not usable.
I had to switch to using Nikon's Camera Control 2 (which functions perfectly and never has trouble recovering from a zero buffer condition), until Adobe can fix this significant bug.
Come on Adobe - Fix your software so it functions.
P.S. I also noticed that conveniently Adobe removed the functionality of their report a bug link.

After exhaustive testing (including trialing Phase One's Capture One Pro 7), it appears to be a bug in Adobe's SDK used in both LR4 and Capture One Pro 7.
    Here is the results:
Well this has been over a month of testing.
The problem is that the D800(E) can't recover from a zero buffer condition when shooting tethered with LightRoom 4 or Phase One's Capture One Pro 7.
It recovers just fine when using Nikon's own Camera Control Pro 2.
This started when I moved from the Nikon d300 which I had been shooting tethered with LR4 just fine, to the D800E. If I shot faster than the buffer and got the buffer down to zero, the next shot would produce a digitally corrupted image and then stop functioning. The buffer would not free up. It would take a reboot of the software to get it working again. Sometimes just turning the camera off and on would get things working again.
I was sure it was Lightroom, as I had tethering instability with earlier versions of LR. So I switched to using Nikon's Camera Control Pro 2 to tether and the problem went away. So I was sure it was LR. I also posted within the LR forums and another user experienced the exact same issue.
Today, I installed Phase One's Capture One Pro 7 software ( lists the D800E as supported for tethering - confirmed with a phone call to Phase One ).
Exact same issue. Exactly the same.
So, tomorrow I'm contacting Nikon because I'm thinking it has to be their SDK that they're providing to both Adobe and Phase One.
Oh and I also upgraded to the just released Nikon D800 firmware - no change.
If it's their SDK it means there's little chance of a solution in the near future, because first waiting for them to fix it and then waiting for the vendors to upgrade to the newest SDK release.
So apparently the ONLY way to tether with the D800 is Nikon's own tethering software, which although the tethering is reliable and fast, the viewing, etc is tedious at best.

  • How can i set up lightroom for tethered shooting with an eithernet cable

So I have my Nikon d4 set up with Nikon Picture control so that it will download to my laptop with an Ethernet cable but it downloads to a file on the hard drive - I can choose what file, etc but what I want to do is take advantage of Lightrooms tethered capture so I can set white balance, set up sessions, etc.  LR tethered capture works fine with a USB but a USB is too short and for the life of me I can't figure out how to make it work with an ethernet cable - supposedly it can be done but not by me!  Any ideas out there?

  • Lightroom 3 tethered 7d file naming

I know there's other things similar to this that say 'known issue'... I figured I'd write this to help clear up what I was seeing.  Hopefully it's not all currently known, but if nothing else hopefully the next person googling finds this info useful.
    lightroom 3.0 build 677000
All files on CF are CR2 files (if that matters).
    Canon 7d - tethered:
The behaviour of lightroom appears to be:
    - take the modified date of the file
    - apply GMT offset - already discussed elsewhere, may be a filesystem thing, no idea here...
Same CF card in a USB2 reader:
    - metadata 'date' taken and applied unmodified
The reason i found out about the modified time, is that i copied all my holiday photos back onto the CF card as an 'easier' way of moving the photos from my laptop to my PC.  All my photos that i had to copy on after my holiday were shown to be taken as the date they were copied as.  I took the card out and back into the USB reader to get all the dates correct.
My expectation would be that lightroom should not be taking the modified time of the file on disk, but actually read the metadata consistently as it does copying data off the CF.  The modified time shouldn't be looked at for the file - it's very possible that its incorrect.
Anyway, i'm happy to hear if any of this is incorrect, but that's my take on it.

I'm pretty aware it'll be a shortcut -  and I'm usually prefer a shortcut where it will give the same result.
This shortcut very potentially won't give the same result.  For this to work, you'll need to have not touched any files on the CF since taking, and you'll need to be in GMT+0 timezone.  I'd suggest that one or both of those is very potentially not the case.
What I'd *really* like is to at least have a checkbox to give me the choice to have lightroom use the files metadata.  I'd argue that should be default, but i can understand it not being default.
The perfect solution would be to remove this shortcut, but if it has to stay, at least give a choice to get the accurate data.

  • Lost my Lightroom Export User Presets

I wanted to export some of my files and noticed that my user presets are missing.  I was able to find the .lrtemplate files but I don't know how to bring them back into Lightroom.  I'm also missing some custom keyword sets that I created.  I am currently on Lightroom 2 and running Windows XP.

I lost my export presets and then I realized I had changed my preferences. Specifically under Edit->Preferences tab I had unchecked the "Store presets with catalog" check box. When I rechecked this box, my export preferences re-appeared.

  • Things I see missing since using Lightroom for tethered capture.

I have previously been using Leaf and Capture One, now we are converting to LR b/c of its features. But there are a few small things that I noticed are missing that should be easy to fix. First the compare window. When shooting tethered in Capture One you can pick a compare variant and it stay's up on the left and all the new captures show up on the right. I have tried the survey option in LR but when you make a capture or use the crop tool you're compare view goes away. This would be very helpful in my situation because we shoot high volume and the shots need to be as simalr as possible.  Also something as simple as the grid, there are workaround but annoying ones. Please just ad a grid button,so you can turn it on and leave it on, along with movable guide lines, these are the only little features that Capture One has and LR does not.

You should be able to see the number in your system files/foldes by navigating to:
    Mac:
    /Users/[your user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Lightroom 4.0 Registration
    Windows
    C:\[your user name]\Program Data\Adobe\Lighroom\Lightroom 4.0 Registration

  • Lightroom Mobile Tethered

Does Lightroom Mobile include tethered shooting? If not, does anyone know if there plans to add it in a future update?

Lightroom mobile does not include any "tethering features" at this time.

  • Lightroom 5 issue with publish to facebook export plugin: not authorized status

    Hi,
trying to connect Lr 5 to fb and being stuck at the authorization process.
In the facebook publish plugin within Lr I hit the 'authorize on facebook'.
IE is launched, facebook opened and it guides me throug the usual step, everything looking normal and fine.
Facebook finally states the app is added and authorized (this is showing up under apps as well looking good).
However Lr is taking a moment to realize the authorization process is done, but then it goes to 'not authorized' status instead of authorized.
I simply tried doing it again, it restarts the process but facebook than gives an error.
I assumed this was due to the app already being there listed under authorized apps, so I removed the app on facebook. fb worked again through the process, but Lr keeps getting not authorized out of it while it is perfectly fine and authorized looking on facebook..
    Umm..  help?
Thanks for any clues, I'm a bit well clueless right now ;p
    Cheers

    Hello,
this is a Facebook problem and not a Lr problem !
Go into Facebook, open your account and go into account settings. There you will find a passage called apps, open it and you see all programs and apps that are allowed to 'play' with your account. There you will find Adobe Photoshop Lightroom in the list. Delete it from there, so that Lightroom has no more the permission to do anything with your Facebook account.
After this, go into Lightroom, chose the exporting services for Facebook, right click on it and connect it to Facebook with your account name and password like you did it before.
That should solve the problem in complete !
    Good luck
    Robert

  • New Lightroom & ACR 400D Preset Available

I have a set of presets for Lightroom 1.1 and ACR 4.1 that will IMHO improve on the default color rendering from Adobe.
This is currently a beta, so feedback is appreciated.
To obtain the beta please mail me: [email protected]
I look forward to your comments.

Anyone know how to install these presets in XP Pro?
The website has instructions for OSX and Vista
    from http://huelight.com/page3/page3.html :
"To install in ACR, Copy the .xmp to your Photoshop 'Settings' folder and select the Olycoly preset in ACR under the 'Presets' tab.
The settings folder is located as follows:-
    Windows Vista - /AppData/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings
    OSX - /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings "
    I can't find " AppData/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings " anywhere in XP.
Furthermore, when I unzipped the downloaded file there are TWO .xmp files. Which of the 2 do I copy?
