Lightroom Activation Question

I am new to Lightroom and haven't used an Adobe product since Photoshop 7 where activation wasn't required.
How many times can I install Lightroom? I understand that with CS2 I can only install it for ether Mac or Windows platform but not both. Is is true for Lightroom as well? How many/what changes will trigger the need for reactivation of Lightroom?

Lightroom prompts you to enter your serial number each time you launch.
It is not exactly as you claim, but maybe it will help.

  • Photoshop Activation Question

    Hi,
Sorry in advance if this has been asked before...
I think the EULA for CS3 allows for installing CS3 on 2 machines as long as the 2 installations of CS3 aren't being used at the same time. When I go to install it on my 2nd PC, when it comes to Activation, it says I've maxed out my Activations.  Am I supposed to keep Deactivating from one PC and Re-Activate on the 2nd PC each time I want to use it?
I really don't think I ever installed CS3 on any other of my machines, or if I ever did I know I uninstalled it, because I don't have CS3 anywhere, except for one PC.
    Any help appreciated!

  • Lightroom 3 question

I imported a number of images taken from products but need to remove the background, Photoshop does not show in the ''open in other application'' for Editing purposes, do I need to get photoshop or can I still do it with Lightroom 3 or do I need to update my Lightroom to the latest version?? Thanks in advance, Cheers, James.

Hi  There, and thanks for the answer! I don't have Photoshop the only thing I have is Light room, can Lightroom do this task or do I have to purchase Photoshop ?? And by the way, if Lightroom can't do that what for to have Lightroom anyway, I would think that Photoshop can do everything that Lightroom can - or am I missing something?
    Cheers,

If you already had photoshop, when you installed lightroom, it should have found photoshop for you. Is it possible the psd file association is not set for photoshop? That can happen if you uninstall a previous version of photoshop with a newer version still on your system.
Check the file association in both the OS's file browser (explorer or finder) and in bridge.
Failing all of that, lightroom should have a third option that will allow you to browse to a image editor of your choice.

  • Activation question: Lightroom

If I deactivate LR CC on my computer #1 so that I can activate it on computer #3 Will I be able to reactivate it on #1 whenever I want in the future (even multiple times) as long as I deactivate it on another computer so that I only have it on 2 at a time. Or once I deactivate it from Computer #1 will on not be allowed to reactivate it on that one again?@

There is no activation mechanism in Lightroom.
You can install, uninstall and re-install it as many times as you like.
The onus is on you to abide by the license agreement and only install it on a maximum of two computers at the same time - only using it on one computer at a time.

  • Office 2013 Volume License Activation question

    Hello,
we have software assurance, so MAK and KMS are available for O2013.
I cannot use KMS server (there are reasons for now). So I have to use MAK. I know that it is possible later on to convert MAK to KMS.
I found topic about ADBA. But missing few points from the description after my 2 questions.
    1. Can I use KMS key for use with Volume Activation Tool without actually having KMS installed?
    2.  at the end it says just 180 days activation. What will happen then?
    From:
    http://searchenterprisedesktop.techtarget.com/tip/Using-Active-Directory-activation-and-other-new-Office-2013-tools
-------Prior to Office 2013, IT had to rely on Multiple Activation Key (MAK) or Key Management Service (KMS) activation. These processes were generally more complex than ADBA. Little has changed with either MAK or KMS in Office 2013. With ADBA, however,
    IT can easily
activate Office 2013 clients through their connections to the domain.
To implement ADBA, administrators must use the Volume Activation Tools utility, which walks them through the setup process. After admins supply the KMS host key, the setup process adds an activation object to the
Active Directory Domain Services. The activation object uses the same Generic Volume Licenses Key (GVLK) and KMS host pair as that for regular KMS activation. When the client joins the domain, the activation object automatically activates the Office installation,
granting a license to the client for 180 days. --------------

Q1) there is a KMShost product key, and there is a KMSclient product key.
The KMShost product key, you install this in your KMShost machine, and the client machines which have the KMSclient product key will contact your KMShost machine for activation.
Volume Licensed products are provided by MSFT with the KMSclient product key already installed. The KMSclient product keys are also publically available in the TechNet library documentation.
VAMT can be used, with or without KMS installed. VAMT is not part of KMS, and, KMS is not part of VAMT.
ADBA is not part of VAMT and VAMT is not part of ADBA.
ADBA can only be used if your AD is at the later version, and, ADBA only works for the latest products like Windows8 and Office2013.
If you have older AD or older products you will still need to have KMS or MAK.
Q2) after 180days, it's the same as KMS - the KMSclient (or ADBA client) will enter "non-genuine" mode if the client has not contacted ADBA object (or KMShost) to renew the activation status.
This wiki article I put together, includes a few helpful links about ADBA and KMS:

  • FamilyTalk and Activation Questions

I've got a question about the activation. It seems that Apple/AT&T made it very easy to activate an iPhone for a single user, but they haven't said much about the FamilyTalk plans. If I were to open up a new AT&T FamilyTalk plan with an iPhone and a plain old Nokia phone would I still be able to activate the iPhone in iTunes? I'm not sure how it would work because the other phone on the FamilyTalk plan would have been activated in the store when I opened the account; so I think that makes me an existing customer by the time I leave the store. The options under "I am an existing customer" in the iPhone activation pane in iTunes are as follows: "replace a phone on my account with this iPhone," and "add a new line to my existing account." Regarding the second option, could this existing account be the FamilyTalk account that I just opened at the store, and then would iTunes allow me to make the iPhone the second (and last) phone on this new FamilyTalk plan?
So in short, I want a FamilyTalk plan for two phones, one of them not being an iPhone. Will iTunes/AT&T allow me to activate the iPhone as the second phone in that plan?

There is absolutely no reason why you cannot do this. You just need to discuss it with customer service at ATT. No one here can do it for you. Itunes only activates the phone, ATT is the one who does the billing and the plans. It should be quite easy.

  • Activity Questions

    Hi,
I have several questions in regards to activities and issues I am encountering as a young and learning Service Manager Back-Up Admin.
First off: I have service request templates set-up for Access Requests that encompass several applications/systems. It uses one Service request with anywhere from 4-20 Activities that are assigned to other teams that handle the specific application or system
access. The Service Request stays assigned to my Queue in the Help Desk. In these Requests, I have used Parallel Containers to have Activities go active at the same time, and then inside that container I have other Sequential Activies which contain Systems
that require more than one teams attention. My problem is, two fold.
    1. My activities on the Service Request "grey out" and cannot be clicked to open the activity, once the Service Request goes to Completed Status. This is a pain, as we have to manually search the MA# when a user calls in to question an account
set-up or something. The funny thing is, on regular service requests that just have the single activity we use as default, the activity does not do this. Is there a way to set this where it will not grey out the activities and we can still double click them
to open them from the Service Request?
    2. Is it in ANY WAY possible to either have activities run parallel without a parallel activity container holding them all? When I do it this way, the container becomes the parent and not the Service Request itself. My runbooks are three times as large trying
to get child activities of every Parallel and Sequential Activity on my Request to do automation on data. Also my teams are complaining because they have to click the parent link 3-5 times to get to the Service request, since I have the Activities embedded
in each other to control their flow. if I could run activities in parallel without adding a parallel container, or if I could find a setting that would ignore containers as parents, my work and my workflow would be MUCH better.
Thanks for any suggestions/help you can provide.
Just to clarify, we started this activity system for access requests because there is no easy Child-Parent relationship ability with Service Requests that could be set-up in templates. If there is a better way, I would love to hear it.

You're not alone :) Pardon the following dissertation..
Regarding your first concern, are you sure the service requests aren't closed? I just tried in my test environment..when a service request is completed, the activities are still accessible. When the service request is closed the activities are not accessible.
I'd consider it undesirable behavior. Fortunately, most undesirable behavior can be fixed with custom controls. This is the second time this week I've seen someone complain about it. I can't make any promises, but let me look inside the activity control
and see if I can build a custom control that will leave the control turned on so you can continue to open activities. If you don't want to wait for me, submit it as a bug to the Service Manager team and see if they'll fix it in an update rollup (fair warning..it
might be by design based on ITIL standards)
Regarding your second concern, there are a couple approaches you can take.
You can't run activities in parallel at the parent work item level without modifying the parent form (by replacing the default activity control with a parallel activity control). And there's no guarantee it would work anyway. The activity workflows themselves
may be tightly coupled to sequential activity behavior at the parent work item level. It would require a good bit of testing and validation and probably isn't worth pursuing.
One possible alternative would be to create a "parent work item" relationship between all activities (regardless of depth) to their parent work item (be it a service request, incident, change request, whatever). Such a feature would require a custom
workflow to generate the relationships when a work item is created. As for the form links..again, you'd have to create custom controls to apply to all activity forms that utilize that new relationship. But your runbooks would only have to get one relationship
instead of sifting through 2, 3, or 4 levels worth of child activities.
As for building a child-parent relationship ability with service requests, you could do it in a template..but you'd have to do it in the management pack itself. Basically, you'd create a new service request in your template that contains an activity that's
related to a particular "dependent work item" activity in your main service request template. Ultimately, your template would be a web of activities and sub service requests with their own activities. The out of the box request offering engine isn't
really built for it..so it would be tricky (if at all possible) to make sure the main request offering input is copied to all the necessary service requests in the template. I've never tried it, but it might be possible..and again, you'd have to do it in the
MP..the console just isn't sophisticated enough to do half the stuff that management packs can do. Note that this approach would likely create "service request sprawl" whereas your activities are clearly organized and grouped right now.
The easiest alternative would be to copy all important data from the parent service request down to the individual activities. In this way, the users wouldn't have to find the parent service request..everything they need is right on their activity's description.
A custom workflow or runbook could accomplish that and would be a lot easier than the template fiasco I mentioned in the last paragraph. You would have to be careful about changes made at the parent service request..your workflow/runbook would have to update
the child activities anytime important information was changed at the parent level.
To close out this novel, I'll look into the activity thing and see if I can't tweak the form behavior. Again..no promises..theoretically, it'll work..but reality and theory don't always get along.

  • Lightroom Catalog Questions:

Hey guys, a few quick LR questions...
    1. Can a Lightroom catalog see folder structure? (If for example, I asked it to reference files already on my hard drive, could I see the folder structure that existed, and navigate to it from within the program?)
    2. Would those files remain accessible via Finder?
    3. If I ADDED a photo to the folder via the finder, could I update the catalog so Lightroom knew it was there?
    4. If I Moved/Deleted a photo from a folder, could I make Lightroom update the catalog with the new info?
    5. If I added an extra FOLDER, could I make Lightroom see it? Would I need to add it via Lightroom, or the Finder?
    Thanks!

    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. Yes
    4. Yes
    5. Yes, you have to add it in your operating system first, and then add it to LR
Having said all that, I point out that Lightroom is  NOT a file browser. It only knows about photos (and the folders that contain them) that have been imported into LR, and so you have to alert Lightroom properly of any changes that are made outside of Lightroom.

  • Home Activation Question

I just recently pre-ordered an iPhone 4 to be shipped to my house. I used another person's upgrade on my account and was wondering if the iPhone will come specifically for that number, or can I choose which number I want when I activate in iTunes? I am trying to avoid a trip to the AT&T Store and have never done home activation.
If anyone can let me know that would be great! Thanks.

I did this when I got the 3g iphone 2 years ago....I took my husbands upgrade since I wasn't due for one yet. It can be done but it's a huge pain....and yes, it will come specifically for the other persons number. You'll need to take it in to an AT&T store because, yes, you can swap the sim chips if you have a 3g sim chip....if there isn't a new sim for the new iphone. They have to internally switch this information in your at&t account. Only a person with an iphone can get an iphone data package....which would be the other person, so your sim would be charged per use for the internet. So they need to internally change this info that YOU have the iphone and not the other person so you can get the data package. Plus there was something about the IMEI number of the phone....sorry it's a very complicated process thats hard to explain but there is a lot more to it than just switching out the sim. AT&T even screwed my account up with this swap and I ended up with a $600 bill on my first bill (they later corrected the problem and waived all the fees that i wasn't supposed to be charged for). So, unfortunately you'll probably end up going in to have this done. You can try calling them and see if they can help you over the phone first.
And don't let them tell you that it can't be done! I did it, but I've had several AT&T employees tell me that it's impossible and can't be done and basically called me a liar to my face. If you have any questions, you can email me at [email protected] and I can try to answer based my on my experience.

  • Lightroom workflow question

I am relatively new to lightroom.  I have a question about incorporating photos from various sources.  What is the best workflow for getting photos that have been emailed (for example) into my lighroom catalogue?
    Thanks for your help,
    Leora

You might want to set up a single folder to receive e-mailed photos, so you'd first save to that folder from the e-mails, then run Import from LR and add your keywords at that time. You can also run Synchronise once it's set up to be sure you've incorporated of them as time goes on.

  • Lightroom licensing question

    Hi,
I just purchased Lightroom online and received it today. It was through a company based in Sydney Australia, but I think it was shipped from the US. Its supposed  to be the Full Version for Windows and Mac. I just have a couple of  questions about it:
    1. The Serial Number says "LIGHTROOM ED" above the number. Does this mean its an Education version?
    2. It came in a single DVD case (just the DVD, no booklet, etc). Should it have come in a box with a booklet? (e.g. like my Adobe CS3 did)
    Thanks

If they are a dodgy dealer, they will have moved on by now.....
You may want to report them to Adobe....Adobe used to reward customers who shopped dodgy dealers in the old days, but most likely couldn't care less these days. It seems the educational licenses are so widely abused by re sellers and consumers that they will become as pointless as Microsoft Office "Student" deals, which are in reality used by just about anybody who isn't a company. My own personal view, as a self employed photographer for whom software is part of my cost base, is that the educational licenses should be abolished for individuals, they should only be available for educational organisations and the over all pricing brought down. As a sometime teacher of photography, most of the genuine students seem to use cracked copies of software and their parents, relatives and friend get the eduction licenses!!! A good chunk of the students are better off financially than many professionals so why they should get cheap software when the university has copies for them to learn with is beyond me.

  • Lightroom/Photoshop question colours correction question

Question for Lightroom and Photoshop users:
I'm using Lightroom all the time now for importing and checking my RAW images. (OSX)
One thing i'm still struggling with though is levels. I want to simply correct levels in LR like PS -
I imported today an image into LR (RAW), corrected it as i thought necessary, exported to Photoshop for final checking and checked the channel histograms in 'levels' and ALL 3 needed correcting.
So, i've clearly not mastered how to do it in LR, i wondered if anyone had a second to advise how you check and correct the 3 channels in Light Room, as you would using the Levels command in Photoshop.
< To adjust the shadows and highlights manually, drag the black and white Input Levels sliders to the edge of the first group of pixels on either end of the histogram.> - Photoshop help.
I can't get an answer on the LR forum, so thought i'd try here, can anyone advise?
    Hope to hear from you

  • Mac OS not recognizing DVD with Lightroom Active

Has anyone found that a DVD is not recognized by Mac OS when Lightroom is active? Once I load the DVD to export images, it's not in Finder or the desktop. I've checked my DVD preferences in Mac OS and tried "Ask me" or "Open another application (Lightroom)." The only workaround is to kill Lightroom, load the DVD, then reopen Lightroom. Does anyone have a fix for this?

    >Does your computer see a blank DVD when inserted with LR active
Yes... Mac Pro w/ Leopard 10.5.2.
Are you running any Western Digital software for external drives? I had a problem with it a version or so ago, and had to uninstall it to make blank media behave properly. Haven't messed with it since and haven't had any problems.

  • Lightroom Tagging Question

    Hi,
I've recently started using Lightroom 3 trial version and have started sorting out my photographs. I have a question with respect to tagging feature of lightroom 3 before i go ahead and buy it.
I've stored all my photographs on an external hard drive because i've to frequently travel and share my photographs with other people. my question is:
If i give a tag in Lightroom 3 on my laptop and save it in my external hard drive, if i open in another computer having Lightroom 3, can they also see the tag.???
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards
    Vj.

    Welcome to the forum!
There are actually two questions here... one, if you have your photos on an external drive, can another LR see it, and two, will it see my tags?
First, normally your tags are stored in your catalog file.  This is the one ending in .LRCAT, such as "Catalog.lrcat".  Your tags reside there.  You can cause LR to save them with your images, in a file ending in .xmp... turn on write to xmp files and it will also put your tags there.
However, if you expect another LR on another computer to be able to see your catalog, you'd have to copy the catalog file onto your external disk as well!   That's where all of your collections, organizations and such get stored, so it would also need to be there for another LR to be able to look at your images the same way you look at them on your computer.
Several ways to go about it:  1) just move your catalog there and run the entire thing off your external disk.  Some people do this (I do it when traveling), but it does run slower than it would if you ran it using your internal disk, as it is usually much faster.
      2) before you disconnect the external disk, copy your current catalog file onto your external disk.  Drawbacks: may forget to do it.  Might have to "reconnect" or "find folder" in order to see all of your images.  This is especially true of windows machines, as they assign drive letters almost randomly (so it seems, at times!).  Each time it assigns a different drive letter, you'd have to reconnect your images.  You can stop some of that, by having the OS assign the drive letter specifically, such as R: or something, and then when you first plug it in to a new computer, make it assign that drive letter again before you startup LR.  On macs it's not that bad, as the disk almost always has the same name.
When you bring your external drive back to your main computer, you could copy your catalog over again, or simply "Import from Catalog" and turn off the "copy negatives" options, then all of your changes made on the other machine will show up again on your local machine.
    Cheers!

  • Lightroom Database Question

I currently use Bridge, Raw and CS4 in a Vista environment and am very happy.  I am finding the need to manage my images and am looking at Lightroom to help me.  My issue has been that I have 2 x 300GB drives, 1 x 750 GB drive and 2 x 1TB drives and did not want to address a query to each individual drive.
My question is:  If I use a storage server like the HP MediaSmart Server EX490, can I then address all my thousands of images stored on multiple drives that are attached to the server with a single Lightroom query?
Any help will be much appreciated...........Mark

After you import the photos into the Lightroom Library, you don't have to worry any more about which drive the photos live on. You can have a single query find photos that might reside on all 4 drives, Lightroom really doesn't care.

I don't know about server issues, someone else will have to address that.
