Lightroom and IPTC / Tag character set
I'm using TWG for my personal gallery. This tool accepts UTF-8 as character set.
I've still not found any way to display properly my French or Portuguese accented or special characters coming from Lightroom (IPTC fields and Tags as well).
Any tip ? Lightroom setting (to write in UTF-8) ? Post-treatment (to convert into UTF-8) ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Best regards
Philippe
This code below should work. Is this what you tried?
CreateMetaFontWithCharacterSet ("ansiMetaFont", VAL_DIALOG_META_FONT, 11, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0,
VAL_ANSI_CHARSET);
SetPlotAttribute (panelHandle, PANEL_GRAPH, plotid, ATTR_PLOT_LG_FONT, "ansiMetaFont");

JEditorPane and HTML Coded Character Set
Hi.
How to prevent JEditorPane to convert its content into HTML coded character set (like
абвгдеёж
I would like to receive normal unicode string from getText() method.
Setting content type
editorPane.setContentType("text/html; charset=ISO-10646");
has no effect.you would have to iterate through the elements of the HTMLDocument in the JEditorPane and look for the HTML tags you are interested in. Once a tag is found its AttributeSet will have the content. I am too lazy to post how it is done again. There are tons of postings in the forum about the topic, so by simply using the search function you should find respective hints.

Oracle 10G support for both Cyrillic and Western European Character Sets
Dear all,
Our DB currently supports western EU characters sets but we need to also support Russian Characters.
Is there a common character set for both? or some trick that does the job?
Thanks.
DB: Oracle 10G R2
OS: Linux
Current Char Set:
NLS_CHARACTERSET WE8ISO8859P1
NLS_CALENDAR GREGORIAN
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET AL16UTF16AL32UTF8 will always do the job.
CL8ISO8859P5
CL8MSWIN1251
could to the job according to http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14225/applocaledata.htm#sthref1960.

Conversions between character sets when using exp and imp utilities
I use EE8ISO8859P2 character set on my server,
when exporting database with NLS_LANG not set
then conversion should be done between
EE8ISO8859P2 and US7ASCII charsets, so some
characters not present in US7ASCII should not be
successfully converted.
But when I import such a dump, all characters not
present in US7ASCII charset are imported to the database.
I thought that some characters should be lost when
doing such a conversions, can someone tell me why is it not so?Not exactly. If the import is done with the same DB character set, then no matter how it has been exported. Conversion (corruption) may happen if the destination DB has a different character set. See this example :

How to exp/imp both diff character set tables between in DB1 and DB2?
In the Solaris 2.7 ,the oracle 8i DB1 has NLS_CHARACTERSET
ZHS16CGB231280 and NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET ZHS16CGB231280
character set.
In other linux7.2 system ,the oracle 8i DB2 is install into the
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET US7ASCII and NLS_CHARACTERSET US7ASCII
character set.
The tables contents of DB1 have some chinese. I want to exp/imp
tables of DB1 into DB2 . But the chinese can't correct display
in the SQLWheet tools. How do the Exp/Imp operation ? ples help
me . thanks .The supported way to store GB231280-encoded characters is using a ZHS16CGB231280 database or a database created using a superset of GB231280 ,such as UTF8 .Can you not upgrade your target database from US7ASCII to ZHS16CGB231280 ?
With US7ASCII and NLS_LANG set to US7ASCII , you are using the garbage in garbage out (GIGO) approach. This may seem to work but there are many hidden problems :-
1. Invalid SQL String Function behaviours - LENGTH ( ) , SUBSTR ( ) , INSTR ( )
2. Data can be corrupted when data is loaded into another database. e.g. EXP / IMP , Dblinks
3. Communication with other clients will generate incorrect results. e.g. other Oracle products - Oracle Text, Forms. , Java , HTML etc.
4. Linguistic sorts not available
5. Query using the standard WHERE clause may return incorrect results ..
6. Extra coding overhead in handling character conversions manually.
I recommend you to check out the FAQ and the DB Character set migration guide on the Globalization Support forum on OTN.

Hi. everyone.
What is the oracle dictionary that contains information of
oracle character set and national character set?
I checked v$database, but there was not the information.
It seems that there are some differences between "nls_* " init parameters
and the database character set.
"Alter database backup controlfile to trace" gave me the character set of db,
but I would like to know whether there are oracle dictionary regarding them.
Thanks in advance. Have a nice day.
Best Regards.I found the dictionary which contains the information of character set and
natiional character set of database.
select * from nls_database_parameters
where parameter like '%CHARACTERSET';
Thanks for reading.
Have a good day.

Precautions i need to take when changing the Character set
Hi,
ORACLE VERSION: 10G Release 1 (10.1.0.3.0)
I am going to change my database's characterset from AL32UTF8 to WE8MSWIN1252 character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set. So i have few questions for you.
1. What is the difference between Character Set and National Character set? Do i have to set both?
2. What are precautions that i need to take while changing the characterset?
3. What are JOB_QUEUE_PROCESSES and AQ_TM_PROCESSES parameters in Plain English? Why do i have to set these parameters to 0 as mentioned in this post below.
Storing Chinese in Oracle Database1) The database character set controls (and specifies) the character set of CHAR & VARCHAR2 columns. The national character set controls the character set of NCHAR & NVARCHAR2 columns.
2) Please make sure that you read the section of the Globalization manual that discusses character set migration. In particular, going from UTF-8 to Windows-1252 is going to require a bit more work since the latter is a subset (and not a strict binary subset) of the former.

Lightroom and/or iPhoto with Apple TV (first 1st generation) integration/streaming
As a hobby Photographer I love using lightroom, Many times, I want to use apple tv to show the photos, or even just randomly browse them. Now the problem is, there isnt any (or I dont know about one, thats why im here ) easier or more automatic or integrated way to stream the library into the apple tv i have (first generation apple tv) than through iPhoto.
Now, I WANT to use lightroom for handling and editing photos (the editting options and organization/sorting of photos is just somewhere in different dimensions to iphoto)
But, I HAVE to use iPhoto for streaming to Apple TV.
Any Idea how I could do all this without manual import export between the LR and iPhoto?
I know lightroom can watch a folder and use automatic import but is that really the best way?
Thank you so much! Please let me know of any idea that pops into your head!
Thanks!
OndrejSorry but you'll need to go back and forth: out of Lightroom and into iPhoto. Setting up a workflow of flagging and using Smart albums can make this easier. But basically, those images need to get into iPhoto to work with Apple TV. Have you considered using Apple's Aperture? Aperture integrates nicely with Apple TV. That's what I use. However, be warned that Aperture is a resource hog and requires more of the higher end processes to work really well, especially if you have large photo libraries. You'll want 8GB of RAM and a newer graphics card (basically a newer Mac) and higher end CPU. The minimum requirements that Apple says Aperture needs are minimal at best.

Language Conversion from Unicode 8 to Character Set
Hi,
I am creating a file programmatically containing Vendor Master data (FTP interface).
The vendor name and vendor address is maintained in the local language (Taiwanese) in SAP System, these characters are in Unicode 8 character set.
The Unicode character set should be converted to BIG5 for Taiwanese, and then send this information in the file.
How can I perform this conversion and change the character set of the values I'm retrieving from table (LFA1) to character set BIG5.
Is is possible to does this conversion in SAP, does sap allows this?
/MikeHi Manik,
I am also having a similar requirement, as I need to convert the unicode chinese character to GB2312 encoded chinese character,. I already posted in forums but didnt get the required the solution.
Can you please provide the solution which you implemented and also confirm whether it can be used to solve the above problem.
Hoping for your good reply.

Different Character sets?
Oracle version: 11.1.0.7.0
There are any problems if I configure an Oracle Streams Replication between to database with different character set? I have configured a propagation between two database A and B. The A character set is WE8MSWIN1252 and the B character set is WEISO8859P1 but when the propagation passes about 30 minutes configured and ora-07445 begin. Also when I do the same configuration between two database with the same character set the problems does not appear.
Here I write the error in the alert log:

Char set difference will cause the target database populated with data which it may not understand and will show you as garbage data. As you replication is working find without an issue for sometime, so it looks like you are hitting some bug when you hit replication for some specific data. To confirm this you may have to work with Oracle to find the exact cause or which bug you may be hitting.
All my suggestions till this point in time is without knowing your proper environment (Server A,B OS and database version, also the error description except english words are all foreign to me). As suggested you will be better off working with Oracle support to find the resolution. Please let us know what fixed your issue when you work with Oracle to help all forum members.

Import시 character set 문제, OORA-01435, IMP-00008 에러에 의해 중단되었습니다. 조언을 부탁합니다.
안녕하세요,
아래와 같이 import를 하려고 하는데 에러가 나면서 중단되었습니다.
C:\temp>imp userid=system/1234 file=c:\temp\usr_lms2-TS_LMS_DEV_D1.dmp FULL=y
질문2: ORA-01435: user does not exist라는 에러는 왜 발생할까요?
질문3: IMP-00008: unrecognized statement in the export file 에러는 dump 화일 자체에 문제가 있다는 말인가요?
해결방법을 알려주시면 좋겠습니다.

Import terminated successfully without warnings.Your import was successful. However, there are a few things you need to note from the top of the import log. It is advisable to use correct NLS settings when doing export/import to avoid data corruption/loss. That idea is to ensure you set the correct NLS setting (NLS_LANG) at the client before running exp or imp. In some cases, the setting does not matter because the different character sets can go together.
In this case, I would not worry about it.
