Lightroom to photoshop and back on a Mac

Hi
I appear to have an intermitent problem ..........
When I take on image from a collection in Lightroom into Photoshop, clicking on Lightroom edits, to complete the necessary edits and then click  save the image doesn't appear in the collection.
The image appears in the original folder but not the collection. This doesn't happen all the time but is time consuming when it does.
Any ideas?
Manks in advance
Steve

Command Z works for me on Lightroom - always has.
Edit>Undo is the Menu command

  • Exporting from Lightroom to Photoshop and back to Lightroom shows different results in Lightroom than in Photoshop

I has set the color space to ProPhoto RGB in both Lightroom and Photoshop. I have also calibrated my monitor.
But when I export a photo from Lightroom to Photoshop and edit it there before saving it, the photo in Lightroom is very different than what the Photoshop edit shows.
Photoshop is to the left, Lightroom to the right.

Ask in the LR/ PS forums and provide details about your system, your files, your develop settings, other stuff. You need to be much more specific.

  • Lightroom to Photoshop and back question

When I export a photo from Lightroom into Photoshop, I make my edits, and then I select save.  In Photoshop the photo changes to a psd file as it should.  But when I go back into Lightroom, the photo does not appear in the original folder it was sent from.  It appears in a new folder that I did not create.  When I try to "move" the picture from this new folder back to it's original folder it says that the file already exists in the original folder, but there is NO photoshop edited picture in that original folder - only in the new folder.  I know I must have a setting wrong, but I have searched and searched and I can't figure out what is wrong.   I can't seem to figure out how to get the photos to go from Lightroom into Photoshop back into Lightroom and end up sitting next to the original picture in the folder it came from.!  Any ideas?  I am using Lightroom 5.4 (everything is up to date) and Photoshop CC (latest version).  I have a Macbook Pro computer.

Sure.  Here are two images.  The first one is of the original picture in it's original folder.  The second one is of the edited picture in the "new" folder that Photoshop/Lightroom created.  I left the photo info on the picture so you can see it.  Any help would be so much appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Lightroom to Photoshop and back logic

    Hi Lightroom/Photoshop wizards,
I work in LR and PS CC.  I am now working for someone else and want to make sure that our edited images end up in lightroom after editing in a logical manner so that we can easily see which images will be used for our photo albums.
Here is how I am working:
Import photos into LR, give 4 star rating to images that will go into album
    Make some LR edits
Edit photo with PS (directly from LR)
    Save image in PS
go through all images to hand pick the ones that I want in the album (now there are copies) This is the part where everything falls apart.  I end up with redundant files and I can't distinguish the finished ones (other than looking one by one to determine the correct version to use).  Is there a logical way to handle this?
Export to separate "album" folder selected images
Also, one extra question, If I am working with high res jpegs (rather than raw), how do I maintain the size of the files?  I exported original file and it did not carry with it any changes made in Lightroom.
    Thanks!
    Lisa

I am sorry if I was not clear. I was thinking that there might be a quick and simple way to identify or flag images that I want to track for say and album.  I want to eliminate any confusion or taking the wrong version of a file.  Perhaps I should just ask what a reliable, logical workflow is when working in LR/PS round tripping.  Perhaps making PS edits first, then Lr changes?  I want the simplest, cleanest, logical, least amount of confusion when working on images for an album.  Having 2 or 3 versions of the same image can lead to confusion.  Some of our images will not be edited in PS, others will.
No, you certainly want to edit photos in LR first, and then if necessary send them to PS for additional edits that are not available in LR.
I'm still not clear about "eliminate any confusion". What confusion? As I said, the photos that have been edited by PS will have the word "edit" in the file name, while the photos that have not been sent to Photoshop will not have "edit" in the file name. Also, when you send a file to PS, you can ask LR to stack the PS edited version with the version that has not been sent to PS, thus keeping the pair side-by-side in the Library module.
My second question is exporting out jpegs without losing any resolution - basically copying the files to another folder for example "edited album images" folder and keeping them in the lr database.  Is there a way to do this through Lr?  When I chose "export" and "original" lr edits did not carry through.
So in your first message, you spoke of file size, and now you speak of resolution. These are not the same. So which is it? To maintain the resolution, you uncheck the box that says "Resize to Fit".
I don't understand why you want to copy files to some other folder, Lightroom provides collections and keywords and plenty of other tools to allow you to organize and identify these photos for whatever purpose you want. So you would use these tools to achieve the organization of your original photos or the Photoshop edited versions of the photos. Without a clear justifcation, I would say that in most cases there is not a need to achieve organization of exported photos. Furthermore there is no "copy" command in Lightroom (except at import which we don't seem to be talking about).
Reading between the lines, it sounds like you want to export to save your edits and then maintain some organization of your edited photos? Is that  correct? As I said, there is no need to do this (nor is it an effective way to proceed). You perform the organization of your photos in Lightroom, no need to export simply to organize. Exporting is performed when the photo is needed outside of Lightroom for some non-Lightroom purpose (e.g. e-mail, web, print, use in some other program).

  • Lightroom to Photoshop and Back

I am working on improving my workflow and have a slant on what appears to be a common question.
If I make a series of changes to a DNG in Lightroom 4.3, then switch to Photoshop CS6 for additional changes (like removing blemishes and softening an image, I know some of this can be done in LR now, but bear with me). Is it possible to return to Lightroom and change a setting (like white balance) and have the change reflected in Photoshop?
I recently spent an hour in Photoshop fixing various defects in an image only to discover I did not like the final white balance. I updated the white balance and had to redo all my Photoshop tweeks.
Any tips for a new user?
    Matthew

No. I would not adjust the white balance in Photoshop because Lr can do that better.
Yes, in Photoshop you can do a intricate curve with black-point, white-point, and several neutral points in-between - but how often is that needed?
Apart from images that I edit in Photoshop because I want to do layers, and other things that Lr cannot do (for instance that intricate curve), I use Photoshop only for the clone tool, the patch tool, and the content-aware fill. Everything else I do in Lr - simply because its easier and also because its non-destructive. In Lr I can always "undo" by going back in the history palette.
If I want non-destructive in Photoshop I have to use adjustement layers. But that increases file size dramatically.
Before we had Lr, I was using Photoshop for everything. Now I'm hardly using it because Lr does it easier.
So, my workflow is this: If an image needs editing in Photoshop, I do it right away - before doing anything in Lr. After that I stay in Lr without returning to Photoshop.

Hi, I am having a little trouble with exporting images to another drive and Catalogue and need some help if anyone can give me some advice
I am currently using Lightroom 5.6 and operating on a Mac with OSX Ver 10.9.5.
I am receiving an error problem when doing the following -
I am exporting selected photos from a particular Catalogue saved on Drive 1 to a folder created on another Drive where a Lightroom Catalogue has been created. In this Catalogue I have arranged for the images once exported to be moved to a different folder - I used the Auto Import process under the File dialogue box.
When processing the Export I receive an error message for each of the images being exported indicating the following -
    Heading Import Results
Some import operations were not performed
Could not move a file to requested location. (1)
then a description of the image with file name
    Box Save As                                  Box  OK
If I click the OK button to each image I can then go to the other Catalogue and all images are then transferred to the file as required.
To click the OK button each time is time consuming, possibly I have missed an action or maybe you can advise an alternative method to save the time in actioning this process.
Thanks if you can can help out.

Thank You, but this is a gong show. Why is something that is so important to us all so very, very difficult to do?

No. If you want full compatibility with that display for all Adobe apps you’ll need to move to Creative Cloud.

  • How do I move documents OUT of iCloud Drive and back to my mac?

Since I "upgraded" to iCloud drive, everything is all messed up. I can't view documents in Pages on my iPad; Apple startp[age won't even play movie trailers because it's telling me I don't have Quicktime (which is now in iCloud also), and I feel like I have no control over anything on my mac anymore. I would just like to turn off icloud drive but that will result in ERASING all of my documents that are in the cloud. This is SO STUPID. I want to move every thing back to my mac, and if I want cloud storage I will just use Google drive since it's easier and more seamless.
    Any ideas/tips?
    Thanks.

Since you mentioned that you delete photos from the camera roll as well as the photo stream, there is no way you can get access to your photos again. Photo stream is nothing but "the cloud". Since you deleted the photos off the cloud, you cannot retrieve them.

  • Problems with Remote Desktop and Back to My Mac

It's impressive how quickly Apple removed my post because of its tone. I hope they respond with equal speed and verve to my concerns.
I need to get Remote Desktop operational. Can someone walk me through the process of getting Remote Desktop to "see" my home computer? The current online video tutorial for Remote Desktop is outdated and no longer resembles the current UI for setting up Remote Desktop.
What about Back to My Mac? Can I get help with that, too? I figure if I can get at least RD or BTMM running properly I'll be able to do what I want to do.

The subject of connecting ARD via the Internet has been covered here many times already (search the forum for "Internet"), but take a look at this web page:
    http://www.starkpr.com/ard.htm
It should help, though you may have to refer to your router's documentation for specifics on opening and forward ports in that particular unit.
"Back to my Mac" is a different feature of Mac OS X and has it's own forum:

  • Time Capsule and Back to my Mac

    Hi there,
I found my perfect configuration. A MacBook Air for my daily mobile use and a Time Capsule at home.
The only thing that I do not know how to setup and really want to have is:
How can I use my new (test-)MobileMe account with "back to my mac" or wide area bonjour to access my time capsule via the internet (afp or something like that)? I found some tips and "hostnames" but they seem to be right for a .mac account...
There is no other mac at my home, ony a Time Capsule.
    I am running 10.5.4
All help is appreciate. Thank you!

  • Time Machine and Back To My Mac (BTMM)

I was showing a recent Mac convert how Time Machine works.
Since my backup drive is connected to my Mac at home and I was
at my workplace, I used "Back to my Mac" (BTMM) to connect to my
home Mac. BTMM worked fine until I entered Time Machine.
Time Machine started and displayed a window showing the contents
of my desktop, but control of the remote Mac was lost.
I can still disconnect and reconnect using BTMM, but the Time Machine
screen is still there and I can't exit from it.
The cursor appears to move (that may be local), but there is no response
to keyboard commands (Esc) or mouse clicks.
Is this happening to anyone else?
    Does Time Machine interrupt BTMM?
Is there a work-around or should Time Machine be off-limits when using BTMM?
    Thanks all!
    - Phil

Disregard... Looks like it was a fluke.
Eventually, I made contact with someone else at the house.
Seems the problem was at the remote Mac.
The mouse button had no effect there either. Nor did the Esc key. (Is that normal?)
I asked for a Cmd-Opt-Esc at the other end and I watched from here and saw my desktop reappear.
When I went back into Time Machine again (via BTMM) it worked fine.
(Complete with rotating galaxy this time.)
Hmm... Is there a way to send a Cmd-Opt-Esc to a remote Mac?

  • Is it possible to use the ipad to access a mac mini running mountain lion and back to my mac?

Is it possible to access a mac running mountain lion using Back to my Mac?

To my knowledge the iPod can only be used as a secondary monitor since you have to boot up the Mac and turn on the secondary display. You would still need a KB and pointing device for the Mac
However, you can log into the Mini from an iOS device like an iPad using app like LogMeIn, GoTo MyPC or TeamViewer on both the Mac and the iPad. You use the touch screen on the iPad for all control of the Mac.
As you said, that would be tedious for a lot of typing but you could use a BT keyboard for the iPad.

  • NAT PMP on Tiger server 10.4.11 and Back to my Mac

    Hey All,
Here is my situation. Users from my internal network who are on Leopard OS are not able to use "Back to my Mac" feature to connect to their computers at home.
I am using XServe Tiger 10.4.11 as the gateway/router
Firewall is UP and running - Port 5900 is open though
    NAT is enable
    DHCP is up and running
    DNS is running.
The error message i am getting from the client machine is
"Back to my Mac isn't working properly because it requires a router that supports NAT Port Mapping Protocol (NAT-PMP).."
I am very sure that it has to do something with my NAT, but i am not sure how or what to look for in there and what settings i should have as well.
Any help or points to the right direction will be great.
    thanks

  • IPad and Back-to-my-Mac?

    Hey gang-
Well, at this point our purchase decision on an iPad hinges on being able to run my employer's web-based apps, which are Java and Flash-based (I know ouch- 0 for 2!)
But it occurred to me if iPad supported Back-to-my-Mac I could run those apps remotely from my desktop Mac. Does anyone know if this works on iPad?
    Thanks!

I don't know about that one, but there are other options like Logmein.
