Lightroom  V1.41 upgrade.. Now won't run

Installed Lightroom V1 on my recently reformatted Computer.
Installed Lightroom V1.41 and now when I try and run it, I get
A visual C++ Runtime Library error
"This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the Application's support Team for more information...
OK....

(edit) just noticed that you said 1.4 ran prior to reformat. If so, do you have your .lrcat file? (your catalog).

I notice that you say Lightroom 1.0 runs. Since V1.0 the Lightroom database file (the catalog) changed form .lrdb to .lrcat file. The actual change happened in V1.1.
To start LR 1.4 and get it to create a new catalog the recommendation in the references given above is to hold CTRL as you start Lightroom; this forces LR to create a new catalog.
But LR 1.4 will not read V1.0 .lrdb files. You may need to go to an intermediate version (V.1.1, V1.2) to get it to convert your .lrdb to .lrcat. (I do not know if you can use 1.4 to import from catalog if the catalog is .lrdb)

  • ITunes updated to 7.6 and now won't run....

it said that the older version of iTunes could not be removed and now won't let me open the one that's on my computer.
it says that "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.".
i tried reinstalling it from the site and it says the same thing, it couldn't remove the older version.

I did a system restore under the accessiblity option under accesories in the start menu.
It took a very long time but it at least let me get my itunes back with no errors.
I'm not sure what the problem was but now it's working so i'm not complaining.
I'm not updating to 7.6 until I absolutelly have to. Hopefully, they will work out all the kinks before I have to update to it.

  • F/fox won't run. Prev. ok - upgrade in ver 7 caused problem - reinstalled now won't run at all. last try with ver 8. Error : "Firefox is already running, .. not responding .. close .. or restart .. system." Neither helps.

'''bold text'''The problems started when a routine browser update resulted in a number of sites not loading and firefox merely 'waiting' interminably for the response. But no error messages. Many but not all sites affected. I disabled add-ons and I think I tried to run in safe mode (my own - mental -memory is slightly damaged) I am no expert but nothing I tried seemed seemed to work so I uninstalled and re-installed. I got the problem described above so I uninstalled using another un-installer (Advanced System Care). Problem remains and I cannot find any process 'obviously' connected with firefox using Task Manager. Can't get troubleshooting info 'cause I can't run FF

Does the ext directory have the php_oci8.dll? In the original steps the PHP dir is renamed. In the given php.in the extension_dir looks like it has been updated correctly. Since PHP distributes php_oci8.dll by default I reckon there would be a very good chance that the problem was somewhere else. Since this is an old thread I don't think we'll get much value from speculation.

  • Itunes 8.2.23 upgrade, now won't stream music via airport express

i (mistakenly) installed yesterday's upgrade to itunes and now when i stream music to my airport express it will play a couple of songs and then i won't get any sound. the song is still "playing" in itunes but it isn't being streamed to my digital receiver. if i pause the song and start it again i'll hear it but after a bit a new song will do the same thing.
i seem to remember having this problem after the last update but can't remember what i did to remedy it. i think i reverted back to the previous version but i'm hearing that i can't do that from this version.

Hey I'm on the phone with the Apple Rep now ( who will remain nameless ) here are the steps:
    1. System Prefs
    2. Go into SECURITY
    3. Click on FIREWALL
    4. Select SET ACCESS FOR SPECIFIC SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS
    5. Click the "+" Button to "Add" iTunes
    6. Restart iTunes
You may need to "Add" Other Stuff that you normally use like Skype, Or Logmein.com, etc...
I believe that in the the future Apple may have a better fix for this... the rep is saying he will escalate it...
Seems to be working fine... we'll see who it goes long term and after some restarts... I'm not sure if it's because of the work we did re-installing and changing setting but I'm getting the soccer ball of death right now... be curious to see what others find out.

  • After iTunes upgrade iTunes won't run

When I started my iTunes earlier today (after a long time of not using it), I got a message saying that my current version (6, I think) was outdated and that I should upgrade to the newest version which is 7 (I think.) So I did that and now iTunes will not run at all! I keep getting a message saying something very similar to "QuickTime version 7.1 is installed; iTunes requires QuickTime 7.1.3 or higher; reinstall iTunes." So I have re-downloaded iTunes+QuickTime v. 7.1.5 several times and reinstalled, but I keep getting that same message. I can run QuickTime 7.1.5 which is definitely installed on my computer, but iTunes doesn't seem to recognize it. Meanwhile, I have no iTunes and my iPod which was being updated continues to display :do not disconnect." Please Help

let's try swapping out your QuickTime using a slightly different technique.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • ITunes upgrade, now won't open on external drive

    Hello, mac genii,
I recently moved iTunes to my external hard drive.  It has worked well.  Just upgraded iTunes to 11.2.1 from a 10.? version.  Now iTunes won't open.  I have a 2009 13" macbook pro, using a western digital 1T ex. drive.  I moved iTunes using a method I learned in this forum (from Limnos), by moving the iTunes folder to the ex. drive, and holding the option key down while clicking the iTunes icon, choosing the ex. drive for the location of the library.  When I downloaded the upgrade, i had the ex. drive plugged in.  It appears as though it upgraded in both the ex drive and internally.  I tried doing the option + iTunes icon and nothing happened.  The iTunes folders are all still intact as far as I can tell.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

My 8.1 will not start either. Starts to open the iTunes library, then I get the "quit unexpectedly" message.
I still have iTunes 8.0.2. When I try to open it, same thing happens, even though that version always worked just fine.
I have tried restarting. No luck.
    Help appreciated.Thanks.

  • RAM Upgrade, now won't boot

    Hi all,
I recently bought 2 x 2GB Kingston RAM modules to upgrade my MBP from it's current 2GB (2x1GB) up to 4GB. The Kingston part number is KVR667D2S5/2G
When I swap over the modules, the laptop won't boot at all, just a black screen and the white LED just stays on.
I've tried each module individually and in each slot but no joy.
Please can anyone help me? Am I missing something basic??
My MBP is a 2.5Ghz 15" model, MB134LL/A, which according to the specs can have "Up to 4GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM".
    Thanks in advance,
    Anthony

It's got me puzzled, and a bit annoyed really, as it should work up to 4GB. I've also seen reports from other people who have these same modules working in various MBP's.
It does/will work at 4GB with the proper RAM. I'm not surprised that some of the Kingston's VR works for some MBPs, but not yours. Here's why: Apple's specs are very tight (tolerances, if you will), compared to the PC industry, and seem to get tighter with each new OS upgrade. When you buy guaranteed Mac compatible RAM, it means that RAM has been tested with and passed Apple's specs. Just by chance, some other generic RAM (KVR, for instance), may pass and be compatible with Macs, while others won't. You obviously got some the is not compatible, and even if it was now, it might fail Apple's future specs. That's why I'd never buy KVR or generic RAM. I don't need the hassle that you're going through now, or, if not now, probably would go through in the future.

  • Mac Mini 1.66, CPU upgraded now won't boot, what can I do?

I have an older Mac Mini which came with a 1.66GHz CPU.  I had previously upgraded the RAM to 2GB and it was perfectly happy with that.
A friend gave me a SLA4D Core 2 Duo CPU which was in working order when he gave it to me at least...
I installed the CPU and put everything back together but all I get is a solid white power light, fan at the back running very quietly and no other output - no display, beeps or anything.
If I hold the power button for 3-4 seconds it will switch off as it should do.
If I try to insert a CD there is no grab - it just springs back out.  I've not noticed any mechanical sounds from the DVD drive but it's quite noisy in this room so I may have just missed them,
    I tried:
pull power plug for 10 seconds, hold power button and insert power, hold button for 5 seconds, wait 5 seconds, press button.
This reportedly resets the PMU.  When I powered back on, the fans were running full speed, all other symptoms were the same.
I then removed power cable, pressed button for 5 seconds which reportedly clears the SMU.  When I power back on, I'm back to square one.
This machine has been unplugged and out of use for a good 9-10 months - I didn't switch it on before I swapped the CPU as it goes.  The CR232 battery appears to be OK still.
Does anyone have any ideas?  I really need to get this back up and running as I have to build something in xcode tomorrow so I'd really appreciate any help.
    Cheers!
It was this CPU btw:  http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SLA4D.html

IIRC, that's a socket P processor. The mini has a socket M, which looks and feels the same but is electrically incompatible. So that configuration is not going to work.
You need a processor in the T7200-T7600 series. In a pinch, of course, you can put the original processor back.
    Good luck!

  • Memory upgrade - now won't boot or wake when peripherals attached

I just bought 2x1GB PC2700 333Mhz 200 Pin DDR SODIMM and now if I have my external monitor attached or anything USB attached (even just a mouse) it will not power up. When I unplug the monitor and/or USB it powers up fine.
I've already had the memory exchanged as the original upgrade memory was incompatible (had the same incompatibility problem when I replaced one of the 256's for a 512 at time of purchase).
Anyone else have this or know the fix?
It's not deadly, just annoying to not be able to put it to sleep after 4 years of using it without any problems.
    Appreciate any help.

I have the same problem. This just happened a couple weeks ago. I purchased a discounted version of 10.4 online, and installed it. That's when everything started acting odd. I have 1.25 gig of RAM. One day the computer locked up, rebooted and clicked on about this mac and it said that only 256 of RAM was installed. I turned the computer off, opened the RAM slot, removed the memory and re-installed. All was well. A couple hours later, the same thing happened again. I thought it was the RAM going bad, so I swapped the location of the RAM, put the 256 in the lower and the 1gig in the upper. Restarted and waited. A couple hours go by until it locks up, then Re-boot. This time it says I only have 1 gig of RAM. Definitely the lower slot going bad on the logic board. ifixit.com has the board for $450, but out of stock. Funny how Apple's recall is only for the 1.5~1.6 machines...

  • Installing update to iTunes failed. Now won't run.

I just tried to install a newer update to iTunes and received this error message. "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 1114). I also get the following error: "Runtime Error! Program C:/Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes exe  R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
Trying to reinstall just results in same error messages. This is on a PC running Windows 7.
Any suggestions on what I need to do to fix this?
Thank you for any help you can provide.

I'm getting the same error after doing a recent iTunes update (yesterday).  I'm also running WIndows 7.  Per suggestion from an earlier post I uninstalled iTunes and tried to reinstall but that also failed - I'm getting the message "Apple Mobile Device failed to start - Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services".  I tried both ignoring & retry.  Neither works.  Now I have no iTunes at all.

  • Apple TV and iTunes upgraded, now won't sync

About a month ago, my Apple TV upgraded to 3.0.2, and then required me to update iTunes to 9.2.0.61. The Apple TV continues to work well with the TV. It is also connected to my wireless network and the internet, since it browses the iTunes store and YouTube, as well as connecting to internet radio stations. "About" shows the correct name for the Apple TV, as well as the proper SSID and IP address for my wireless network. BUT...
In iTunes, the Apple TV does not show up in the menu list at the left side of the iTunes window, where you now find "Library", "Store", and the iPod, and where you could formerly find the Apple TV listed.
In iTunes, clicking Edit/Preferences and selecting the Apple TV tab, the list actually does show the Apple TV as connected to iTunes, with the status listed as "syncing". However, the Apple TV has not successfully synced since the upgrade to 3.0.2, as all the content remains as it was before the software update.
On the Apple TV tab, "Look for Apple TVs" is checked and "Prevent Apple TVs from syncing automatically" is unchecked.
    Any ideas?

  • Upgrade now won't let me get online??

Very frustrated at this point with the new upgrade. I've had ALL kinds of issues as from reading here, I can see that I'm not the only one. Today's problem is that I can't seem to get online using maps or safari apps. My email works just fine though!? When trying to use maps or safari it will sit there trying to connect to something then just won't. Very frustrated and wish I never even touched the new system.
I've restored the network settings and after that didn't work, I restored the phone. No go.
Does anyone know how to downgrade back? I'd do that in a heart beat instead of dealing with all these issues. I think I was on 3.0 or 3.1. I haven't updated in a while then just jumped to 4. Bad idea. lol Nothing but headaches since then.

It's not a virus. There are several ways to recover.
    1. Some of those scam pages can be dismissed very easily. Press the key combination command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
    2. Press and hold command-W. You may hear repeating alert sounds. While holding the keys, click the OK button in the popup. A different popup may appear, which you can cancel out of as usual.
    3. From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and uncheck the box marked Enable JavaScript. Leave the preferences dialog open.
Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.
    4. If the Preferences menu item is grayed out, quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. None of the windows and tabs will reopen.
After closing the malicious page, from the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

  • After norton update computer rebooted and now won't run on. any ideas why? hp pavilion elite m9417c

I received a message fron norton that it had updates and my computer needed to reboot. I said ok, it turned off and won't turn back on. I check the electric supply - it is okay. green light on back of computer is on. pressing down the power button has no effect.

    Dglaser, welcome to the forum.
I am not certain that the Norton update has anything to do with your computer not booting.  I suggest troubleshooting the power supply unit (PSU).

  • IPod touch attempted software upgrade now won't work

Purchased used iPod touch 8gig USB connect to iTunes on my g4. Gave me a software update choice which I accepted, then after several attempts will no longer show in iTunes and keeps the USB to iTunes logo only on iPod. Any fix? I know the local apple store will want more than a new one. Any suggestions?

Other users of 1G iPod (or any iPod with iOS 3.x) have experienced the same problem within the last couple of days. It appears that Apple updated the App store website to cause this problem. For the time being you just have to download them to your computer and sync them to your iPod.

  • Lightroom 5.6 won't run on Win 7 6 after upgrade through CC

Upgrading Lightroom to 5.5 stopped it from running. I found a fix on the net and moved on.
Now. Lightroom 5.6 has just upgraded and now it won't run. Also, I cannot find a fix - new or old.
    This is very frustating..
    Please help

Installing the standalone version just postpones the problem until you install the cloud version, again.
The SLCache folder has bad data in it that confused LR 5.5 and again LR 5.6 until it was cleared, via Solution 4 on this page.  Of course there could be other issues, so trying each of the solutions in order could be useful, but Solution 4 is the one that finally worked for me, with LR 5.5 on my home computer, and LR 5.6 on my work computer, where I'd installed the standalone 5.5 to bypass the issue and it came back with LR 5.6:
Lightroom doesn't launch or returns "Develop module is disabled" error after 5.5 update
Once you remove the contents of the SLCache folder other Adobe programs will ask to be relicensed like Elements via a serial number or the cloud programs by logging in, but that is just once after you clear it not each time.
