Limit number of parallell processes when archiving

Hello,
I am about to achive object SD_VBAK. This will take a long time to run, so I want to limit the number of parallell batch process it runs in. When I did this in our development system the archiving took all available batch processes. It there a way to set the number of parallell processes? I don´t want to affect the normal business.
We run on ECC 6.0.
   Best Regards

Hi ann,
Check this link
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2004/helpdata/en/d2/36e2791560ed4a96e97a3175694886/content.htm
You can set parallel work process, or you can run archiving only in night, for example in Cross-Object Customizing you set parameter Max. Duration Hrs, then schedule Archiving job and finish automatically in XX Hours.

  • How to limit number of parallel processes for a query???

    Hi,
I have set table parallelism to degree (4 in my case) and when i run a query on that table i see on v$session that this query is using 8 parallel processes.
Why my query is using all this processes?? Can i limit this number?? I think this will cause poor performance if all my parallel processes stay BUSY on v$pq_slave.

  • Number of parallel process definition during data load from R/3 to BI

    Dear Friends,
We are using Bi7.00. We have a requirement in which i should increase the number of parallel process during data load from R/3 to BI.  I want to modify this for a particular data source and check. Can experts provide helpful answers for the following question.
    1) When load is taking place or have taken place, where can we see how many parallel process that particular load has taken.
    2) Where should i change the setting for the number of parallel process for data load (from R/3 to BI) and not within BI.
    3) How system works and what will be net result of increasing or decreasing the number of parallel process.
    Expecting Experts help.
    Regards,
    M.M

    Dear Des Gallagher,
Thank you very much for the useful information provided. The following was my observation.
From the posts in this forum, i was given to understand that the setting for specific data source can be done in the infopackage and DTP level, i carried out the same and found that there is no change in the load, i.e., system by default takes only one parallel process even though i maintained 6.
Can you kindly explain about the above mentioned point. i.e.,
    1) Even though the value is maintained in the infopackage level , will system consider it or not. -> if not then from which transaction system is able to derive the 1 parallel process.
Actually we wanted to increase the package size but we failed because i could not understand what values have to be maintained  -> can you explain in detail
Can you calrify my doubt and provide solution?

  • BOMM - Metadata manager busobj.exe process limit number of report processed

    Hello,
We're facing the following problem, we have a BOMM setup which is running flawless for universes and webi reports. But we have a huge amount (+8000) Deski reports all stored in the same folder.
While the integrator is processing the Deski reports at a certain point in time it goes wrong, we found out that to process the Deski reports BOMM launches a busobj.exe process which uses 2 GB of RAM at the moment the integrator stalls. The integrator does not give an out of memory error, it just stops processing and seems to timeout.
What I am now looking for is a parameter that can limit the number of Deski reports processed by the busobj.exe process, before it is terminated to free up the memory. We thought that the pplimit parameter would do just that, but it is not.
In the log we see all kinds of parameters, but there's very little information about what they do.  These are arguments for which we would like to get some more information:
    - maxSelect (defaults to 1000000)
    - mtc
    - ppc (number of concurrent jobs, but this seems not to influence the number of busobj sessions)
    - pplimit
    - ptc
    our setup:
    BOE = 3.1 SP2.5
    BOMM Version: 12.1.0.6
    Kind regards
    Guy

    Thank you Manoj,
This was already helpful, it confirmed our thoughts about the parameters.
I can not confirm your first comment about the fact that the busobj process closes after eacht report, I've monitored the processing on the server and during the run of the integrator the same busobj process was active (same PID).
Currently we try to process 100 reports at a time by manipulating the date modified on our dev enivronment by checking the reports in scope out and back in, and then starting the integrator.
The reports average around 200KB in size and none of them is set to refresh on open. Base on the logs it takes around 1 minute to process a single report. Depending on the fact if it is processing the associated universes or not. Disk space is not the issue.
I noticed similar behaviour when we used a VBA-script to feed our own mm, and I had to write code to limit the number of reports processed by the busobj process to around 100. I did this by closing the busobj process after 100 reports and then start a new batch of 100 reports in a new busobj process. I think busobj does not cleanup after closing the report, and with every report opened within the same process the memory usage of the process grows, until it reaches 1.8 GB and then the process just hangs.
I can open cases, if you can tell me on how to make sure it reaches you I'll just create one. Do you already have a release date for the fixpack you are talking about?
    Regards
    Guy

  • Parallel Processing when running in background

    Hi
We have implemented a parallel processing solution using the Call Function Starting New Task Destination in Group format to split a large number of updates across an RFC Server Group.
This works well when running the ABAP in dialog, but when we schedule for background processing, the parallel processing does not seem to occur, we get a single background process.
Does anyone have any ideas why this may be occuring ?
    Thanks
    Paul

    Paul,
Starting new task will start a new LUW in dialog process and not in background. This is the reason you are having a problem. While technically STARTING NEW TASK is used for parallel processing, you need to consider whether the program will be run in foreground or background mode.
In case of background, you need consider using multiple jobs via job open, submit, job close. This way you can initiate more than one process in your server group to do the work.
You will need to consider the # of background WP available and the # of WPs you can use for this program.
So if there are 100 WPs available and you can use only 10 at any give time, then you should schedule 10 jobs and then check the status of the 10 jobs before you can start scheduling the next jobs.
You can use the FM SPBT_INITIALIZE to check the # of WPs that are currently available in the server group.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Vikram.M

  • Activating parallel processing in SAINT when import is active

    Hi All,
I am installing EHP3 for ECC 6.0 at the moment and the import takes a long time. Does anyone know if I can adjust the parallel import options in SAINT after I stop the import?
    So
    1. Stop the import.
    2. adjust settings.
    3. restart the import.
I'm not sure that the settings options are released for editing when the import is canceled.
I first want to make sure before killing the running import.
    Thanks,
    Arjan

    Hi Arjan,
What is the number of parallel R3trans processes are you using ? SAP does not recommends more than 5. Check SAP note 1083533. See below extract from this note:
Number of parallel processes during the installation: You can reduce the duration of the installation by using parallel processing for several R3trans processes. Five parallel R3trans processes are known to be effective. We do not recommend several
background processes for parallel processing of the method execution (otherwise, it may result in a termination as described
    in section 5)
Also, for this it is also recommended to use latest R3trans and tp. for this check SAP note 1110690.
    Thanks

  • Java Proxy Generation not working - Support for Parallel Processing

    Hi Everyone,
As per SAP Note 1230721 - Java Proxy Generation - Support for Parallel Processing, when we generate a java proxy from an interface we are supposed to get 2 archives (one for serial processing and another suffixed with "PARALLEL" for parallel processing of jaav proxies in JPR).
    https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=1230721
We are on the correct patch level as per the Note, however when we generate java proxy from the IR for an outbound interface, it genrates only 1 zip archive (whose name we ourselves provide in the craete new archive section). This does not enable the parallel processsing of the messages in JPR.
Could you please help me in this issue, and guide as to how archives can be generated for parallel processing.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Rosie Sasidharan.

    Hi,
Thanks a lot for your reply, Prateek.
I have already checked SAP Note 1142580 - "Java Proxy is not processing messages in parallel" where they ask to modify the ejb-jar.xml. However, on performing the change in ejb-jar.xml and while building the EAR, I get the following error:
Error! The state of the source cache is INCONSISTENT for at least one of the request DCs. The build might produce incorrect results.
Then, on going through the SAP Note 1142580 again, I realised that the SAP Note 1230721 also should be looked onto which will be needed for generating the Java proxy from Message Interfaces in IR for parallel processing.
Kindly help me if any of you have worked on such a scenario.
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Rosie Sasidharan.

  • Parallel processing in background

    Hi All,
I am processing 1 million of records in background, which takes approximately around 10 hrs. I wanted to reduce the time to less than 1 hr and tried using parallel processing. But the tasks run in Dialog workprocesses and giving abap short dumps due to time out.
Is there any other solutions using that i can reduce total processing time.
Please note that i cannot split. I am getting 1 million records from a select query and after processing all those records in SAP, I am sending to XI and XI will post in legacy system.
Please note that all other performance tunings done.
    Thanks,
    Rajesh.

    Hi Rajesh,
Refer sample code for <b>Parallel Processing</b>:
By doing this your <b>processing</b> time will be highly optimized.
Go thru the description given in the code at each level.
This code Checks available WORK PROCESSes and assigns data in packets for processing. This way you save a lot of time esp when data is in Millions.

  • Parallel processing using BLOCK step..

    Hi,
I have used parallel processing with a BLOCK step. I have put a multiline container element. In the BLOCK step, I have visibily to another container element generated because of the block step (multilne container_LINE). Thus the number of parallel processes are getting created as in the requirement, but the problem is the value in multilne container_LINE is not getting passed to the send mail step. I have checked the binding, everything is ok. Please
    Sukumar.

    Hi
When I am sure that I am doing properly a binding but it doesn't work then:
    1. I activate workflow template definition (take a joke).
    2. I write the magic word
    /$sync
in the command line, to refresh buffers.
    3. I delete the strange binding defined with drag&drop and define it one more time using old method from former binding editors in R/3 4.6c systems. I take container elements from the lists of possible entries or I write their name directly. I don't use drag&drop.

    Hi
We are on BI 7 and ECC 6 and doing the extraction .It creates 10 Dialog process with user ALEREMOTE .Bi system is small and it has only 13 Dialog process. So system becomes very slow with 1 extraction job .
In RZ12 , the parallel_generators settings of "Minimum Number of Free WPs" = 5 but still ALEREMOTE takes 10 process.
Please tell me where do we limit the number of parallel process for extraction in the BI system.

  • Parallel processing query

    Hello all,
I know parallel processing improves data performance when loading from source system. but how is parallel processing done in BW? how can we set up the number of parallel process on BW system? And does it have any impact on any other processes?
    Thanks

  • Too  many parallel processes

    Hi
I will have to build process chain to cube 0SD_C03 and the datasources are
    2LIS_12_VCITM
    2LIS_12_VCHDR
    2LIS_12_V_ITM
    2LIS_12_VDHDR
    2LIS_12_VAITM
    2LIS_12_VDITM
    2LIS_12_VADHDR
Now the question is after providing the links between " Delete index" process and individual  loading process (Infopackages),the message I am getting in the checking view is " Too many parallel processes for chosen server " and furthe,r the suggested procedure by system is " Reduce the number of parallel processes in the chain or include sub-chains :
How can I reduce the processes? Is there any alterante method of building this flow to avoid warning messages..
Though these are warning messages ,what is the correct flow of building process chain for this without getting any warning messages.

    Hi,
Based on dependency better you can go for 3 parellel process at a time as what we are doing in our project.
check schedule time for each your process chain which fetchs data from source system (Info Package) and re schedule them which should not execute at a time (make it max 3) and try again

  • How to get BI background jobs to utilize parallel processing

Each step in our BI process chains creates exactly 1 active batch job (SM37) with in turn utilizes only 1 background process (SM50).
How do we get the active BI batch job to use more than 1 background process similar to parallel processing (RZ20) in an ERP system?

    Hi there,
Have you checked the number of background and parallel processes. Take a look in SAP Note 621400 - Number of required BTC processes for process chains. This may be helpful ...
Minimum (with this setting, the chain runs more or less serially):
Number of parallel SubChains at the widest part of the chains + 1.
    Recommended:
Number of parallel processes at the widest part of the chain + 1.
    Optimal:
Number of parallel processes at the widest part of the chain + number of
parallel SubChains at the widest part + 1.
The optimal settings just avoids a delay if several SubChains are
started in parallel at the same time. In case of such a Process Chain
implementation and using the recommended number of background processes
there can be a short delay at the start of each SubChain (depends on the
frequency of the background scheduler, in general ~1 minute only).
Attention: Note that a higher degree of parallel processing and
therefore more batch processes only make sense if the system has
    sufficient hardware capacity.
I hope this helps or it may lead you to further checks to make .
    Cheers,
    Karen
