Limit output max and min highlights and shadows via curves or levels or?

Would like to be able to set a max and min output, say 252 RGB / 2 RGB so
that no value outputs outside that range no matter what. Can do this in ACR
with adjusting the endpoints of the curves, but this isn't available in LR.
Using recovery to really pull down the highlights helps, but doesn't
guarantee no clipping and affects a wider range of tones than just the
endpoints.

That sounds like the cpu overheat alarm. Your cpu may be overheating. Clean all dirt/dust from the cpu heatsinf using canned air. Also clean out the power supply with the canned air. Reseat the hsf after cleaning all of the old thermal grease off it and the cpu. Reapply a thin coating of new grease on the die of the cpu and then reseat the has, making certain to put it back on the correct way.

Just bought a new iPad, and my highlights and bookmarks will not sync to it through iBooks.

Hey, I just bought the third-generation iPad. I have been reading on the iPad 2 for a year now, and have hundreds of books in my library. Because I'm such an intense reader, and value my highlights, it upset me when I bought the new iPad, synced it to iTunes, and then highlights and bookmarks were not transferred to the new iPad. The books were all out of order when they synced, and I had to rearrange them, but they were in the correct collections. This was my first hint that something was wrong. Next, when I opened my books, I could not find a single highlight in any of them. I checked all the books on my iPad 2 and they're fine as usual, everything is how I left it, including my bookmarks and highlights, and I even went into settings and made sure sync bookmarks was on on both iPads. I am completely confused and frustrated. I even put my new iPad into DFU mode and tried to re-sync everything, nothing is working. They just won't sync. Could someone please help me out, this means a lot to me. Also: is anyone noticing that the multitouch is slightly off with the new iPad? I'll go to tap dictation or drag an icon to another page, and it's just not that responsive. a few times I have clicked the dictation button but I gotten a space in instead. It seems you just have to press harder almost. Lastly, my 30 pin seems to be a little tight. I put a standard 30 pin sync cord that came with my original iPad 2 and iPhone 4 into the 30 pin and I almost had to jam it into the 30 pin slot. I work with iDevices all day long and have never had one that needed to be jammed in before. It doesn't seem good for the iPad. Yes, I am borderline about to return it, but the screen just looks so much clearer, I can't go back to my iPad 2. Wow, again I pressed the dictation button and the spacebar activated instead. If anyone can figure out this whole iBook situation so I can get my bookmarks and my highlights back, I would really appreciate it!

I also tried manually underlining a few things on the new iPad and when highlighting a paragraph, it would skip a few lines and the line would go through a few as well. Looks like a major iBooks glitch needs to be addressed here.

1.) The Bridge application is included in the Photoshop installer, as well as some other Adobe products.(more info: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/bridge/?promoid=GWELP). The Mini Bridge extension is only included in Photoshop CS5, and InDesign CS5. The Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in is shared by Photoshop, and Bridge (and is also found in Photoshop Elements).
2.) Bridge is a separate application, whereas Mini Bridge is a panel that's hosted by the Photoshop or InDesign application. Bridge has a fuller feature set than Mini Bridge and can be used by itself. Mini Bridge needs Bridge to create thumbnails, keep files synchronized, and perform other tasks, but operates in the context of the Ps or ID host application (ie. drag/drop multiple assets into working document w/o losing document view).

Simultanious audio output from both mini Displayport and Audio Output port?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if someone who already has audio+video output through the mini displayport set up can be so kind and answer the following questions for me:
Can audio be output simultaniously from 3.5mm audio port as well as the mini displayport? That is, if I output both video and audio to my reciever through the 2010 iMac's mini Diplayport, can i use the standard audio output port to provide line input for a further set of (active) speakers (analog would be fine)?
In the case both outputs CANNOT work simultaniously, which one will work if i have both plugged in? If the mini displayport has higher rank (or priority or what whatever i should call the one that works when both outputs are plugged in), and the reciever it is plugged into is switched off, will audio automatically switch to the standard audio port? Same question goes if the standard audio output port has higher rank/priority?

Just in case you are wondering why the heck i would wanna do that, here's some background:
I am planning on setting up my new 27' iMac on a 'work' desk in my bedroom, where i can comfortably sit and work on the computer as well as use the beautiful screen as my bedroom TV. Since i also wanna use my mac for all my living room multimedia needs (movies, tv shows, music, etc), i plan on running a long (15m) audio+video HDMI cable all the way up to my reciever in my living room. Furthermore, i am also planning on running a USB cable to the living room (through something of this sort: http://www.coolgear.com/images/171632pro.jpg) plugged in to a usb hub mainly for mouse/keyboard availability in the living room, but also for other things such as external hard drives and so on. The problem is that, apart from having my audio play in the living room, i also want to provide line input to my reference monitors that will be located at the iMac desk and i obviously much prefer i get the line input directly from the mac rather than running a third cable from reciever back to the speakers.

Thread use to find max and min in an array of objects??

I need to find the min and max int value in a array of Objects.
This has to be done using threads--like divide the entire array into 10 or so blocks and find the local min and max in each block., Each block is run on a thread and finally comparing them to find the global max and min.How should I do this? I am new to Java programming and in particular to threads.

if i understand your problem, you have a big array with a lot of int values and you need to create a few arrays with a part of the big one in each, next each in a thread find the max and the min, next return the max and the min of each thread and compare these max and min to obtain the globals max and min?
In that case you can create a class in which is your big array. you create a second class implementing Runnable, in its creator you put the instance of the
first class and 2 int which are the beginning and the ending index. in this class add a method run in this method you create a loop to compare the current value to the max and min values, and you replace if you need to do. In the first class you put the main where you create a few instance of the second class in a thread :
private Thread threadName = new Thread(new SecondClass(this, start, end));
Next you start all these thread:
threadName.start();
At the end of the run method of the second class you have to write your result in the max and min fields of the first class(int type, you have to create it)
Write it only if it's necessary (if the current max is > than the already existing max).
I think it's complete!

LR 4.1 where did highlight and shadow recovery go?

I just upgraded to lightroom 4.1 and the highlight and shadow recovery sliders have disappeared. It now looks like me old version 2. What happened to the new sliders?

You may be seeing Lr3 settings i.e. Process Version 2010 rather than Process Version 2012, or vice versa. Anything imported into Lighytroom 4 that wasn't edited in an earlier version will be Proces Version 2012, which uses a completely new set of adjustments. Anything edited in an earlier version of Lr will be PV2010 or earlier.
In PV2010 we had Highlight Recovery and Fill Light, both only operated in positive direction, which was/is usually thought of as recovery. The terms hightlight and Shadow recovery don't apply in PV2012 because the new sliders operate in both positive and neagtive directions. You can switch between the two process version by first selecting the image then choosing the appropriate option form the Process drop down menu in Camera Calibration panel (DEvelop module)

Why both MiniDisplayPort and Mini-DVI?

I'm potentially in the market for a mac mini, and am trying to understand the display options this would give me in the future.
Can someone help me understand why the MacMini has been given 2 display output ports? (Mini-DVI and MiniDisplay Port)
What would/could I use each one for? What can I use one for but not the other (ie why there is both and not just one of them?)

For my specific setup, I'm going to need either
1)Component (YPbPr) OR
2)Composite (Yellow phono jack) OR
3)S-Video
If I can't get any of them, then I will need to run the MacMini with no screen. In principle that's fine, but it would re-open the debate about whether I should be going the AppleTV route instead of the Mac Mini route.
I'd rather go Mac Mini as I could then make use of:
1) CD/DVD playback for my wife (ie not having to import and burn them first)
2) Import of memory sticks from camera and camcorder
3) 'occasional' internet use when I can't leave the living room, and don't mind a low quality screen-res.
Following on from your helpful answers, I guess my next question is:
1) If I go March09 Mac Mini - Can I get an adapter to do either of my video requirements above?
2) If I go Late07 Mac Mini - Sounds like I can get the video adapter. So should work fine? Unless I'm missing some other functional requirement?

How to retrieve Min(startDate) and Max(endDate) for different groups of data? (sql server 2000)

My sample dataset (below) contains 3 groups -- 'a', 'b', 'c'. I need to retrieve the Min(startDate) and Max(EndDate) for each group so that the output looks something like this (date format not an issue):

What is the Tsql to perform this type of operation? Note: the actual data resides in a sql server 2000 DB. If the Tsql is different between version 2000 and the later versions -- I would be grateful for both versions of the Tsql

Highlights and Shadows develop settings are not functions

While implementing an image-processing plugin, I learned something very interesting (to me) about the Shadows and Highlights develop settings. The other basic tone settings (exposure, contrast, saturation, etc.) always map any one color to another single color uniformly throughout the image. But the Shadows and Highlights may map a given color to multiple colors in a single image, depending on the location of the pixels.
For example, in a test image I made with Shadows = +100, pixel (824,286) had its original 16-bit color value (0, 0, 0) transformed to (1724,1387,852). Pixel (861,287) also had original color (0,0,0), but it was transformed to a much different color (3093,2688,1316).
Abstractly, the other basic tone settings are functions (any input color always has the same output color), while Shadows and Highlights are many-to-many mappings (any input color may have multiple output colors). I knew that Clarity was not a function -- the transformed value of a pixel would depend on neighboring pixels. But it never occurred to me that Shadows and Highlights weren't functions either.
Is this property of Shadows and Highlights well-known by expert users of LR? (I.e. Rob, I assume you knew of this?)

Yup - @Lr4 (PV2012) there are 3 adjustments using Adobe's new "magic" algorithm:
* Clarity
* Highlights
* Shadows
I really don't know enough to fill in much in the way of details, except to say that when you use -highlights or +shadows, it "clarifies" the highlights and/or shadows a little bit, by way of the laplace-transform based algorithm Adobe developed. Jeff Schewe has pointed us to a white-paper about it in the past, but I dunno the link.. To me, it's akin to Topaz Detail and/or Topaz Adjust's "adaptive" enhancements - two Photoshop plugins I used regularly until Lr4 came out (Adobe's algorithm is very well done - in my opinion, better than Topaz labs, or any of the others doing similar things, e.g. PhaseOne, DxO, Nikon, ..).
FWIW - this is one of the reasons some people were raising heck when Lr4 first came out - no way to brighten shadows using the basic sliders without getting the clarification effect.. That said, Eric Chan also has informed us that Lr3's fill light had a similar mathematical algorithm backing it, and so Lr4 was not new in that regard, just improved..

I am still pretty new at using Aperture 3, but I was very curious to know if it has a similar feature as Lightroom 4 does with its highlight and shadow recovery feature. I am really impressed with how this works in Lightroom 4 and would be curious to see if this would work in Aperture. Thanks!

The first version is going to be a little rough as it's essentially just a recompile of the old beta, with a couple of inelegant work arounds for the issues encountered. If there's any interest in it, I'll start finessing it a little.
If you're unfamiliar with Enfuse, it's a command line program that takes multiple images with different exposures a blends them together using the best exposure from each (base on some settings).
enfuseEdit is an Edit plug-in for Aperture where you can select the images to be blended and have the result returned directly to Aperture.

I have 1 KF which is a date field. With reference to Serial no, I want to find out the Max and Min date from the same KF. I created 2 CKF where the same KF is used in both CKF to find the Min and Max dates,

You have FM --DAYS_BETWEEN_TWO_DATES you can use this while Customer Exit.
Try to Have 2 RKF for Min Data and Max Date and create a formula/CKF on the same ..

I am trying to store the max and mins from a line profile that I generated from a picture into a spread sheet and also calculate the average max and min. It seems like it should be a simple thing to do, but I can't seem to find an easy way to do it.

What version of LabVIEW are you trying to do this in?
In most versions of LabVIEW, if you go to Help->Find Examples and search "spreadsheet" you will see a number of VIs that read/write data from spreadsheet files. Of particular interest may be the "Using Spreadsheet Format.vi".
As for calculating max and min, there is a VI "Array Max and Min" in the Programming->Arrays function palette that will allow you to input an array of numbers and output the max and min.

I have upgraded Apple Aperture from version 2 to version 3 and I'm having a problem with the "Highlights and Shadows" adjustment. The advanced adjustments in the Highlights & Shadows tool were combined into the "Mid Contrast" slider in Aperture 3.3 and later. If you have any images in your library that were processed in a version of Aperture before 3.3, there will be an Upgrade button in the Highlights & Shadows tool in the upper right, and the controls you asked about under the Advanced section. Clicking the Upgrade button will re-render the photo using the new version of Highlights & Shadows, and the Advanced section will be replaced with the new Mid Contrast slider. With the new version from 3.3 you probably don't need the Advanced slider, but if you want to use the older version you can download it from this page:

How can I split the max and min value with if condition for KM L AND H as below
I am getting the km value correctly but rest fields for L and H (lit and hours) it is not ?
Please comment.

Query Designer in BI - How to cumulate value and get the Max and Min value.

I want to create a report with query designe of BI 7r. is it possible. the data from the cube will be
Year ,           Exposed Quantity
1999 ,             200
2000 ,            100
2001 ,            -100
2002 ,             300
2003 ,           - 200
2004 ,             100
2005 ,            -200
Calculation should be - Refer the cumulative value field
Year ,          Exposure Quantity ,   Cumulative value
1999 ,            200   ,                             200
2000 ,            100 ,                              300
2001 ,           -100 ,                               200
2002 ,            300 ,                              500
2003 ,          - 200 ,                              300
2004 ,            100 ,                              400
2005 ,           -200 ,                              -200
An the out put of the report should be Max value ie 500 and Min Value -200.
My question is that is it possible to do in the front end ie in the Query Designer (BI 7) If so how.

Hi there,
Create 4 column,
1st will show regular values for the key figure,
2nd will show Cumulative value, in Query Designer, Just right click on the this 2nd key figure properties, calculation tab there you can check on Cumulated option, and define the calculation direction as Calculate along the Column.
3rd will show Minimum value , Just right click on the this 2nd key figure properties, calculation tab calculate single valuea as minimum.
4th will show Minimum value , Just right click on the this 2nd key figure properties, calculation tab calculate single valuea as Maximum.
