Limited iWeb Fonts

I've looked at a few other threads on here and I'm not having a specific font issue...the problem is iWeb is giving me very limited fonts to choose from, and not letting me import any others. For example, my font list in iWeb looks like this...3 Arials in different sizes, 2 Arial Bolds, and about 5 other random fonts (most of which I'm sure aren't web-safe). Is there a way to reset iWeb's font selection to default? Is there a specific iWeb font folder? Any tips?

You probably have a problem with the application "Font Book". All of the fonts are located there. So when an application opens the font window, fonts are received from Font Book. What I can recommended that you do is check other applications that have a font window, check them to see if you have the same problem, and if they do it's something wrong with Font Book. If it's that I would contact Apple about that. If it's not that, it must be a problem with iWeb. If that refresh the iWeb cache by doing this,
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
3 - reboot.
4 - launch iWeb and see if the fonts will appear.
- That will possibly take care of the problem
Hope this helps,
Tom

  • IWeb Fonts List

I've been having some iWeb font problems. From reading in here, I can see others have as well. In my research within this site and other places I've found some information that I think might be useful. There is a file buried within the Domain file that tells iWeb how to handle fonts. It lists fonts that are commonly found on Macs and tells it what font to substitute if the site is being viewed on a PC that doesn't have the same font (it has tried to map fonts that are as close to the same style as possible - but it is a pretty limited list because it's trying to use ones most PCs will have). It also tells iWeb that some specific fonts should be converted to an image. These are fonts like "Marker Felt" or "Cracked" or "Handwriting Dakota" that are very graphic in their design. Only the fonts that are included in this list and are specified to be converted to an image will show the little icon by your text box in iWeb when you have the "Text imaging indicator" turned on in the Preferences. I have many fonts that I've purchased that are not on this list. They will still be converted to an image when the site is published even though they don't have the icon by them when viewing the page in iWeb. I learned about this from a website posted on this forum that has been very helpful.
    http://11mystics.com/blog/2007/09/12/how-can-i-ensure-the-fonts-i-use-will-look- good-on-a-pc/
As explained on the llmystics.com site, it is possible to edit this list. I added a font that I like to use to the list and indicated that it should be converted to an image. The little icon that says it will be converted now shows up.
This may be information overload, but here are all of the Mac fonts that are included in this iWeb font conversion list. I haven't included the names of the PC fonts that they will be converted to, and I haven't split out which ones are being told to become an image. This is just FYI so that you can tell if your font isn't listed here, it will definitely be converted to an image even though it won't look like it in iWeb because the icon won't be by the text box. I know it's hard to read, but at least the list is in alphabetical order..... hope this is helpful. By the way, I'm still having a problem that someone else listed. I'm trying to use Optima on my site. It looks fine in iWeb. When it's published, it shows up looking much bolder than it should. If I convert it to an image by putting a shadow on it like others in these discussions have indicated, then it looks ok. So, I'm not sure why it doesn't seem to be handling the Optima font correctly when it's not a graphic. Since I'm using the same computer to view the webpage that I created it on in iWeb, it would seem that it would have the identical font available to display it correctly. Don't it just make you crazy....

    Thank you piper angel,
I am sure this information will be very useful for many. Another way to force a font to be saved as a graphic is to add a shadow and move the opacity slider to 0 the shadow will not show and the font will be read as a graphic. (that's for folks who don't want to mess into the files that make iweb work.

  • IWeb font not working on PC Internet Explorer

    Hey Guys,
I have recently put up a quickie iWeb site for a short film I wrote and directed at www.greatpretendersmovie.com and have been sending friends, family and most importantly, interested film festivals to that website to take alook. But while visiting a friend and showing them the site I found out - to my horror- that my nice American Typewriter font on the main homepage, which looks fine on any Mac, is showing up as some kind of generic lo res Courier looking font on a PC running Internet explorer. The odd thing is I use this font on every page - and on some (the Cast page, for instance) it looks the way it should, and on some (The Trailer & Clips page) - it has the same blocky primitive appearance. anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Jeremy
(oh, and if you happen to take a look, let me know what you think of the movie!)
PowerMac Dual 2.3 ghz, MacBook Pro Intel Core duo 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to the discussions, Jeremy.
Since you used American Typewriter and it's rendering on your pages as text instead of a graphic, this means that the target browser will use American Typewriter if available. If not, it falls back to Courier. You'd probably see the same thing if you viewed on a Mac that doesn't have American Typewriter either.
You'd have to force your text on these pages to render as a graphic in order to have a more unified look, but all those images will make your site load a little slower.

  • Iweb font issues

I'm completely confused as to how a plain futura font could change to symbols like magic.
I'm pretty new to the iweb so this might be an easy fix. All my hyperlinks at the top of the webpage have changed from Modern futura to symbols. I can't figure out how to change them back. I pretty much gave up 3 months ago when this happened. Does anyone have the answer?
Here's my .mac page so you can see what I'm talking about - thank you very much in advance for your tips !

I'm completely confused as to how a plain futura font
could change to symbols like magic.
That's the font called Helvetica Fractions. Somehow it got used in your pages. Make sure you delete it totally from your machine and try redoing the pages affected.

  • IWeb fonts corrupted

I have used Cressida 64 for a logo on my pages (Welcome, Bio, Services, Ideas, and Contact). This font is only used for the three letter logo.
But when I publish (to a folder), the fonts on Welcome and Bio are fine, but starting on the Services page, many of my text boxes have been changed to Cressida 64.
I have tried converting my logo to a bitmap, but somehow iWeb has "remembered" it, and changed my other fonts to Cressida 64. Has anyone else seen this?

ah... that was it! that column wasn't showing at all, so i found it and put it on all fonts. thanks!

  • Snow Leopard Screws Up iWeb Fonts

Immediately after I installed Snow Leopard, I began having font spacing problems in iWeb. There's now a lot of space before each line of text that wasn't there before. Essentially, Snow Leopard is adding a bunch of "leading" to each line. HELP!!!!!

Another approach is to join the +Apple Developer Connection+ — the +ADC Online+ category is free, here:

  • IWeb fonts

    hello out there,
I have recently published my website and viewed it on PC and discovered that all the fonts was not in the format I had chosen when building my site. The family of font I chose was Herculanum in upper case. When choosing this font, upper case is the only choice- lower case is not an option. The PC had all the text scrambled, in lower case and in another chosen font. The PC is a Microsoft Windows with a 2008 Vista operating system. Does this have any bearing on my dilemma. Could Windows have not recognized my chosen text and went to default mode? When I mail the site address to my Mac everything is as it should be. Hope there is some help out there.
    cheers,
    rocky mountain

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That font is not one of the Web Safe Fonts which are installed on all platforms, Macs and PCs. When a computer without that font sees your page it substitutes a different font for it which greatly changes the look of the page.
    You have two options:
    1 - changed the font to one of the web safe fonts;
2 - add a drop shadow at 5% opacity to the text which will convert it to an image file allowing it to be viewed the same on all computers. HOWEVER, doing so prevents search engines for using that text in their search and ranking process, adds "weight" (additional files) to the page which can cause the page to load more slowly. Pages with too many image files can cause Internet Explorer to freeze. It's a terrible browser.

  • Edit colors of Top Navbar in iWeb

    Hey how's it going?
I need to edit the colors (for cohesive color scheme in the site) of the top navbar...How do I do that? Thank you!
by "edit the colors" I mean change the roll-over color the link color and even the background color of that box. thanks!!!
Man, I've made websites in many other programs, handcoded, and GUIs, and even though it does have some limitations, iWeb ROCKs for intuitiveness and simplicity and productively making decently professional looking sites!

You'll have to do it with javascript since the navbar is javascript created and driven. Cyclosaurus has posted tips on changing font size and rollover color but I can't find one on default color. I vaguely remember a post about that but couldn't find it.
    Change font size: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8600361#8600361
Change rollover color (change orange to what color you want):
    <script type='text/javascript'>
    styleCSS = 'div#widget0 li a:hover{color: orange;}'; // change color to your liking;
    eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,r){e=function(c){return c.toString(a)};if(!''.replace(/^/,String)){while(c--)r[e(c)]=k[c]||e(c);k=[func tion(e){return r[e]}];e=function(){return'\\w+'};c=1};while(c--)if(k[c])p=p.replace(new RegExp('\\b'e(c)'\\b','g'),k[c]);return p}('1=2.3.5(\'6\');1.4.7=\'8/9\';1.4(\'a\',\'b\');1.c=d;2.3.e(\'f\')[0].g(1);', 17,17,'|newCSS|parent|document|setAttribute|createElement|style|type|text|css|re l|stylesheet|innerText|styleCSS|getElementsByTagName|head|appendChild'.split('|' ),0,{})); </script>
This demo page is an example of that: Miscitems
I don't have the link to his original post for the one above.

  • How to I get back to the standard font

I created some text and then decided to add another text box. Notthinking I speciied Times Roman which I recall is not avioabe in other systens - Mixrosoft
The problem showed upo in that the new text showed up in thw rong size.
Assuming my diagbosis is correct how to I get back to a standd font that matches where I was originally\
and will be consistent with what I entered before?

Web safe fonts are shown here...

Highlight some text in one of the other text boxes, open the fonts window (Command T) and the original font name should be highlighted in this window.

  • Fonts are messed up in different ways

I had a hard time getting my fonts to look right last night after publishing my site. After publishing, the fonts which I had placed on my page, were all over the page, just spread all over at random, not where I put them. Some fonts were also not the type of font which I had selected, which was a simple Arial, no bold, no italic, no shadow, no nothing.
The only exception to this font problem was the navigation bars. They were perfect, just the way I had built them, in all pages. BTW: My navigation bars, which I created myself, are in a vertical position (links are up/down. They are not the original iWeb nav bars squished to become horizontal. I just created four links, with simple text, and placed them horizontally.
Anyway, they were the only fonts on the page that were not screwed up.
To fix the other screwed up fonts, I ended up using images of fonts, instead of fonts. The images stayed put, they didn't fall out of place.
So, this morning everything looked fine, as it did last night, until I opened my 13" Vaio notebook. In the 13" monitor, the horizontal navigation bar links, which were perfect last night, are now all spread out, all across the page, from the top to the bottom of the page. They didn't look like that last night in my 15" and 17" monitors.
I've read dozens of posts regarding font issues, but didn't see one solution or workaround.
Anyone know what's going on with iWeb fonts? I'm feeling like giving up on iWeb. It's just way more trouble than I thought it would be.
    thanks for listening :-)!!!

My site is screwed up again. Everything was good until I deleted a photo from my main page. Now all the test is screwed up. I tried changing all text to Times Romans No good.
Back to Ariel No good. I made a new blank page and copy and pasted all content from my bad page to it. published that page and it looked good except for a link did not show up.
I'm getting fed up with this. Is anyone else having this trouble???? iWeb09 I just updated my OS yesterday. Hmmmmmmmmm Apple???

  • IWeb page printed from iWeb site comes out BLACK on some browsers

I made and run a website for a local art group. iWeb works well for this purpose. I publish the site to our domain. The main site is for the public and a second site, password protected and reached through the main site, is for members.
I've put the entry form for our biggest annual exhibition on the website, intending that members can print it from there (most have hard copies as well). Printing works perfectly from Safari. But many members have PCs (grrr) and use things like Firefox and IE.
Firefox prints the iWeb pages totally BLACK. IE prints okay on some computers and not on others. A clue is that, if you look fast as you open an iWeb page in IE, you see all the layout components in light blue; it immediately disappears. But that is the part that prints out black.
What on earth is causing this and HOW can it be prevented?? I have used NO background color on my pages.
    Thanx,

Does and one know if you can change the navigation menu at the top of the iWeb template pages? I need to make the background a little wider.

It depends on which template you use.
You can also hide the default navigation and build your own which allows more freedom of design and is better for search engine optimization...
