Line spacing issues

I am typing a document and using single spacing...computer line spacing shows as 1 as does inspector text, yet as I get to the lower portion of my document it suddenly changes to double spacing and I cannot get it to change back to single

When I ran into a similar problem I copied the text into a
blank Word document, fixed the spacing there, then copied and
pasted the text back into the Captivate text box. Good luck...

  • Dynamic Text line spacing issue

    Hi, in my Flash movie (CS3) I want all text to be selectable.
    When I select 'static' and 'selectable', I have the following issues:
    - Some of the text does not fit into the available (scrolling required to see the end of text)
    - This is larger than when in Flash.
    When I use 'dynamic' text, I have the following issues:
    - The line spacing displays different in the exported swf than it does in Flash (line spacing is much greater in the swf)
    - I am a designer so the appearance / positioning of the text is crucial
    Is this common?
    Is there any way to make the text in Flash and swf appear consistent?
    Many thanks

    First of all, maybe you don't know it, but static text can't be made selectable even in theory. Therefore what you're seeing when you click "Selectable" option, is a dynamic text. As for line spacing, I don't see any difference between Flash CS4 and resulting SWF. The only strange thing I've found is the necessarity to enlarge the bounding rectangle when I change the text type from static to dynamic. Otherwise bottom line of text just disappears. It looks like a bug. Also I don't see "Autosize" option being working here in CS4. I doubleclick on bottom right corner of the text block, small square is transformed into a diamond, and bounding rect is "autosized" around the text block. But the bottom text line disappears just as I deselect the text object. All it looks some stange...

  • Weird Line Spacing Issue in Mail App and iChat

    All of the sudden, all of the lines of text in my mail app and ichat are all bunched up. It's impossible to read the content. Maybe my baby son pressed something but the font is tiny and illegible. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
    Thanks

    Hello Darryn,
    I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue with your Mac. If you are seeing an unusual bunching or overlapping of text in multiple applications, it can often be due to a font issue. You may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following articles helpful, including one possible specific instance which may result in similar issues:

  • No line spacing, so why...

    Hi,
    There is no line spacing applied. However, the first line is
    in brown and the second line is in gold. There is a massive line
    space between the two lines, whereas I'd like them to be the
    equivalent of a soft return.
    "welcometo" is brown text, and h1 is defined as gold text.
    The p tag is defined in brown also. I've got a huge gap between
    each line.
    <td width="546" height="261" valign="top"><h1
    class="welcometo">Welcome to</h1>
    <h1>OUR COMPANY</h1><br>
    <p>My main text paragraphs here.</p>
    </td>

    You are seeing the margins between the <h1> and the
    <p>, and it's made worse
    by the unnecessary <br>. Use CSS to control these
    margins. It's not a line
    spacing issue at all.

  • AutoSize not working properly in TextField when using non-zero line spacing

    When using non-zero line spacing, the autoSize property is not functioning as expected, causing text fields to scroll that shouldn't.  Also, when using device fonts, the sizes of the TextFields are wrong in the Flash IDE.
    I have a TextField whose height is supposed to be dynamic, depending the width of the TextField.  wordWrap is true, the text is left aligned, and the autoSize value is flash.text.TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT.
    When the TextField's width is adjusted, the height increases or decreases as expected, but when I scroll the mouse wheel over the TextField, it allows a single line to scroll out of view.  This should not be happening.  The autoSize property should ensure the TextField is large enough to neither require nor allow scrolling.
    Has anyone else encountered this issue or know how to fix it?
    Update: Been a problem since at least 2006! > http://blog.nthsense.net/?p=46
    http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?288955-Disabling-textfield-scrolling   Bug is caused by using a line height ("line spacing" in Flash) larger than zero, for example 1.0pt.  It looks like when I reduce the line spacing of the text field to zero, the issue goes away.  There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with how autoSize is calculating the required height of the text (i.e. it is exactly textHeight + 4 pixel gutter, and drawing the rectangle (2,2,textWidth,textHeight) aligns visually with the text), so it must have to do with how the TextField is deciding whether it needs to scroll or not, and that separate calculation is being thrown off by the non-zero line spacing.  The additional non-zero spacing at the end of the last line could be making the TextField think it needs to scroll, even though it's hight is sufficient at "textHeight + 4".  Apparently the problem manifests when using a non-zero leading value as well.
    In fact, it has to be related to the leading value exactly, since the following code stops the textfield from scrolling.
    //body is TextField
    var tlm:TextLineMetrics = body.getLineMetrics(body.numLines - 1);
    trace(tlm.leading); //traces "1" here.  traces zero when line spacing is zero, and traces larger values with larger line spacing values
    body.autoSize = flash.text.TextFieldAutoSize.NONE; //turn off autosize so the height can be set manually
    body.height += tlm.leading; //increase height of textfield by leading value of last line to cause scrolling to be turned off.
    Honestly, this is pretty unacceptable bug.  First of all, scrolling should not be sensitive to trailing line spacing, because autoSize and textHeight do not include it. It need to be consistent, and I think textHeight and autoSize setting height = textHeight + 4 is correct.  Vertical scrolling should use textHeight as it's guage for whether scrolling is necessary, but instead, it's obviously involving the leading values of the last line.  At the very least, vertical scrolling should simply be disabled when autoSize is turned on and wordWrap is true, because the TextField should be big enough to fit all the text.  The workaround of manually adjusting the height is also no good, since turning autoSize back on will immediately change the size back and trigger scrolling again.  I also shouldn't have to set line spacing to zero just to use the autoSize feature, since the scrolling calculations are wrong in this way.

    No, lol.  Luckly, I replace most of my TextFields on the display list with my subclass TextFieldEx.  I just call a clone method that accepts a TextField and returns a TextFieldEx with identical properties.
    I corrected the problem via modifying the subclass to behave differently when autoSize is not NONE and wordWrap is true.  Under those conditions, the maxScrollV and scrollV property values are fixed at 1, and the class listens for its own SCROLL event and sets scrollV to 1 when it occurs.  That allows me to leave everything else alone, including text selection, and use whatever line spacing I want.
    The modification seems to work fine so far.
    For anyone interested in doing something similar, here is a clone method that will copy a TextField.
    public static function clone( t:TextField ):TextFieldEx
                                  var te:TextFieldEx = create( "", t.width, t.type, t.multiline, t.wordWrap, t.selectable, t.embedFonts, t.defaultTextFormat );

  • Text Line Spacing Question

    Hi, I am creating a book in aperture 2.0 and am having some trouble adjusting the line spacing in a newly created text box. The default text book in the template has a line space of +5. I have created my own text box for another page and the line spacing is +1.
    How do i change this to +5 to match the default. I cant find the option anywhere.
    Thanks in advance.
    PS. I find version 2 much nippier than 1.5.6.

    Bruce:
    Thank you for your reply. I generally set all the default margins to "0". I'll adjust the margins for paragraph indentations.
    I'm not sure how to describe the problem better than in my original posting, but I'll try.
    Suppose a form which looks like a contract with headings, single unchanging sentences and dynamic paragraphs.
    Suppose you create a Text Field object, and you use the Concat function. Suppose that you created multiple very long sentences using Concat in that same Text Field. You could use the paragraph window to set the line spacing at 1, 1.5 or 2.
    Set the line spacing at 2.
    Suppose you create a Text object that was either a heading or a sentence or two in length.
    Suppose there are both multiple Text Field and Text objects throughout the document.
    My is issue is lining up the line spacing so it is consistent double spaced throughout the document where there are multiple Text and Text Field objects. If I just look at it, my line spacing is close but far from consistent.
    I set my Text Objects and Text Fields at .25in throughout the whole document and that gets me an approximation of 1.5 line spacing, but that is still only close.
    Thanks for any additional thoughts.

    Folks:
    When I copy and paste single-spaced text from MS Word into the body of an email message in Apple Mail, it pastes in as double spaced text. Does anyone know of a fix for this? I can't seem to find how to change line spacing in Apple Mail. Thanks.

    went into the word doc, removed all tabs (even if not using tabs there were some hidden) and paragraph formatting and it pasted in fine... my doc was a single paragraph...
    BUT having fixed that I found another doc which underlines the text when pasting it into mail!!!! havn;t solved that!

  • Flash CS4 line spacing in Snow Leopard

    I've just switched over to Mac OS 10.6 and found that the line spacing has changed in my files. Basically it seems to have increased the line spacing so the static text fields take up more space. I've updated Flash and I'm now on 10.6.1 but the problem remains. It doesn't do this on 10.5.8 or in InDesign and SL (but it does do a similar thing in Quark 7.5). It doesn't seem to matter what font it is either. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hey FlipMacoy,
    Don't do that, save your time!
    There was a problem with Postscript 1 typefaces and Snow Leopard (not confined to Flash, but also affected other apps including Quark 7), but the new SL update (think it came out last week) has fixed those issues.
    You just need to run Software Update and get the latest version of SL, and then everything should go back to normal.
    I've only tried two files, but they appear as I would expect them to.
    Good luck.

  • Robohelp 10 output line spacing for numbered lists is off

    I wondered if you have had this situation occur with your output from Robohelp 10.
    I created my help system and CSS using Robohelp 10. My CSS contains a numbered list style and an alpha list style, both having line spacing of 3pt before and 3pt after. Looks great in Robohelp WYSIWYG, but the generated output (in IE and Chrome) looks bad. The numbered list line has way too much line spacing after (the next style is a non-numbered list style) and the alpha list has way too little line spacing.
    I tried playing around with changing the line spacing but it does not change the output!
    Thought I'd reach out to see if you have experienced this issue and the most expedient way to resolve.
    Here is an example of HTML tags in Robohelp:
    numbered list
    <?rh-list_start level="1" an="1" class="rl-p-1ListNumber" start="1" style="list-style: rh-list;
      list-style: rh-list;" ?><p class="1ListNumber">instruction text.</p><?rh-list_end ?>
    alpha list
    <?rh-list_start level="1" an="1" class="rl-p-Alpha" style="list-style: rh-list;
      list-style: rh-list;" ?><p class="Alpha">Instruction text.</p><?rh-list_end ?>

  • SAPSCRIPT to Web(pdf) has different line spacing than in SAP?

    When we issue to output the order in SAP it looks fine. When we open it in the web, using PDF, the lines are spaced differently.
    We have never had an issue before, but now we added a lot of text to a final page of the sapscript.
    Any suggestion how to adjust the PDF line spacing for output via our SAP Function Modules that create OTF to PDF?
      Thanks,

    Hi,
    The SAPscript must generate an OTF output and then you convert the OTF into PDF format.
    There are 2 possibilities :
    1.Without generating any spool :
    2.When calling OPEN_FORM function module, export parameter OPTIONS-TDGETOTF = 'X', and when calling CLOSE_FORM function module, use returned parameter OTFDATA
    call CONVERT_OTF function module to convert the OTF to PDF. Returned parameters are BIN_FILE (the PDF binary) and BIN_FILESIZE (the length of the PDF binary). See below how to save a PDF binary to a file.
    If an OTF spool has been generated, you may convert it using CONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF function module. Returned parameters are PDF table (the PDF binary) and PDF_BYTECOUNT (the length of the PDF binary).
    Thanks

  • Fix for extra line spacing in code on publish

    Hi Everyone
    Here is a fix for the issue where on publishing using Contribute (CS3 / CS4) extra line spacing is added into the HTML code on publish.  Everytime you publish using Contribute extra line spacing is added between the lines of coding destroying the formatting over time.
    (See attached PDF document for the complete how to step-by-step fix.)
    The issue lies in the line break type defined in Adobe Contribute settings.  Where the web server type, the website is hosted on Unix / Windows, is different from the line break type defined in Contribute's settings under...
    Users & Roles > Editing > Line break Type
    For example:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    <title>Website Tile</title>
    <meta name="keywords" content="Keywords here" />
    <meta name="description" content="Description here" />
    On publish becomes:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    <title>Website Tile</title>
    <meta name="keywords" content="Keywords here" />
    <meta name="description" content="Description here" />
    (dots are used just to space the text in the forum thread post, they represent blank lines between the lines of code)

    It sounds like you are carrying over a desktop setting that I dont think is editable in iPad pages. It is the before and after spacing around paragraphs. I have been using iPad versions for months now and cant think of the desktop wording in the inspector.
    Open back up in Dekstop pages and see if you can find that setting and reset it to a lower value, or delete the value and resend to iPad.

  • Word doc import/export and line spacing differences with Pages '09

    When I save or open a Word .doc, the default line spacing differences messes up the document formatting, the document ends up being more pages in Pages than when I open in Word:Mac.
    One work around I learned about on this forum is to set the line spacing to "exact" in Pages. This is okay, except many Word documents have subtle line spacing before or after paragraphs and/or different size fonts in the document that affects line spacing. Setting Pages line spacing to exact makes a mess of these documents.
    Why can't Apple build a proper line spacing function into Pages so it is more compatible with Word? If they are touting compatibility, they need to make a disclaimer in their advertising as only simple documents seem to work without issues.
    Is there a better work around available?
    Thanks.
    Bud

    Bud,
    It seems that there is incompatibility in the before and after spacing (Ctrl + 0 in Word for Windows adds 12 points, if I remember correctly).
    Since you mention a .doc file, it makes me think you have a Word 2003 or earlier format. I have a couple of suggestions:
    1. If you have access to Word 2007 or Word 2008 for Mac, try saving in .docx. Basically, a .docx is compliant with Office Open XML, the ECMA standard that is the basis for the document formats in Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac.
    [Note: The Office Open XML ECMA standard, or OOXML is a source of polemic since it was donated by Microsoft and competes with Open Document Format, or ODF. You can find more here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OfficeOpen_XML#Implementations_of_new_2008version
    and Microsoft has stated they'll support the newer standard and retrofit Office 2007. Let's hope they do the same for Office 2008 for Mac and that Apple picks up as well with an upgrade for Pages '09 or in Pages '10]
    2. If the above does not work, I would suggest reporting this to Apple. This would indicate a compatibility problem in Office Open XML compliance, which should be independent of Word itself. A way to support this claim would be to test it in another word processor that adds space before and after a paragraph and that supports OOXML, which I think would be too much I would not bother reporting it for a Word 2003 format because it is proprietary.
    Hope it helps.

  • How do you set the line spacing when using the Append Text Table to Report VI?

    I have a table of numbers which I wish to print using the report generation VI's. Since each column has a different numerical format, I first convert the number for each cell to a string with the appropriate format and then build a string array to pass to the Append Text Table to Report VI. The table is printed with double line spacing. How do I reset this for single spacing?
    Attachments:
    print_array.vi ‏112 KB

    Dave,
    The issue is not with the NI-Reports functionality, but the Array to Spreadsheet String funvtion in the for loop. Here is the context help for this function:
    "Converts an array of any dimension to a table in string form, containing tabs separating column elements, a platform-dependent EOL character separating rows, and, for arrays of three or more dimensions, headers separating pages."
    The thing to note here is that it says it adds an EOL (end of line) character at the end of every row. This is what is happening. Your first column of data has a \r\n in it and adds the second row to each data item. This in turn makes the rest of the columns have a larege blank space at the bottom so that all of the cell heights are equal. I w
    ould re-write that little bit of code so that you just do one large string concatenation of number, spaces, number, spaces, number and this should solve your issue.

  • After crossing over from Office to Pages I have a continuing problem with spacing with line spacing. Hopefully you can assist me in sorting this out.

    If I am working on a document and happen to run a heading and body copy as follows
    Australian maritime history. The story of Australia etc
    or if I type as following:
    Australian maritime history.
    The story of Australia etc
    THEN if I go back to the document and I want to move the 'The story of' section to the next line... and hit 'return' it leaves a line space under that headline.
    Ditto... if I go back to the second example and make the headiline 'bold' it once again leaves a line space.
    Office was easy to correct as you simply highlighted the space and deleted.
    not so in Pages..... the line spacing % bar (under inspector) does not allow for such correction... instead it crunches up the body copy of the paragraph.
    I assume it is some default setting - but where and how?
    Thanks
    Warren

    Hard to follow what you are saying, but if you are using styles they all have their own formats.
    Can you point us to the specfic template you are using? Or show us a screen snap (command shift 4) of the issue.
    It does sound like one of the styles either has a space before or after the paragraph or a combination of the two:
    Inspector > Text > Text > Before/After Paragraph
    This exists in Ms Word as well.
