"line-wrapping" text, how to do?

Well, the subject isn't probably the best one, but hope that it doesn't matter too much... So, I have a text whose length is x (well, it isn't very long) and I have to break it to 6 lines to show it to user. I'm going to use 6 labels, because using TextArea is not an option. It doesn't look very good (it looks textarea), that's why.
Any ideas? And if you have better suggestions, I'd like to hear them.
Ps. Must work on Jdk 1.1.8, because the program is for Nokia 9210 (OS Symbian Crystal) and that uses it. sigh

Well, I might sound stupid, but could you be a bit more specific? Link(s) for tutorial(s) is/are enough. Thanks!

  • Multiple StringItems and line wrapping

    Hello!
    Why is it, that StringItems, that have to be line wrapped because of their length, cause the following StringItems to start at a new line after the preceding one, even if there is still enough room?
    Tested with WTK 2.5.1 (Qwerty Device)
    Here's an example:
    * ExampleMidlet.java
    * Created on 1. November 2007, 18:30
    package hello;
    import javax.microedition.midlet.*;
    import javax.microedition.lcdui.*;
    * @author rp
    * @version
    public class ExampleMidlet extends MIDlet {
    public void startApp() {
    StringItem s1,s2,s3;
    Form form = new Form("Example");
    s1 = new StringItem(null,"That's just an example for a very long line, which has probably to be wrapped and a ");
    s1.setLayout(Item.LAYOUT_2);
    form.append(s1);
    s2 = new StringItem(null,"hyperlink");
    s2.setLayout(Item.LAYOUT_2);
    form.append(s2);
    s3 = new StringItem(null,", which is followed by even more Text");
    s3.setLayout(Item.LAYOUT_2);
    form.append(s3);
    Display.getDisplay(this).setCurrent(form);
    public void pauseApp() {
    public void destroyApp(boolean unconditional) {
    Some real devices do this right, starting an item where the
    preceding one stops. Unfortunately lot's of others don't (following
    the WTK)
    Please!
    Do I really have to generate zillions of One-Word-StringItems in order to avoid ugly line wrapping ?
    cheers, Roland

    Please!
    Do I really have to generate zillions of One-Word-StringItems in order to avoid ugly line wrapping ?How about just one StringItem containing the entire text? Or would that create other problems?I have text with hyperlinks in between. That's why I cannot put it in one single StringItem.
    Device fragmentation. Nothing anyone can do about it.I don't think, device fragmentation is an argument here:
    Why should there be a layout directive like Item.LAYOUT_NEWLINE_BEFORE/AFTER
    if you shouldn't also have the possibility to have no line wrap at all?
    Here's what the API says:
    A row break occurs before an item if any of the following conditions occurs:
    the previous item has a row break after it;
    it has the LAYOUT_NEWLINE_BEFORE directive; or
    it is a StringItem whose contents starts with "\n";
    it is a ChoiceGroup, DateField, Gauge, or a TextField, and the LAYOUT_2 directive is not set; or
    this Item has a LAYOUT_LEFT, LAYOUT_CENTER, or LAYOUT_RIGHT directive that differs from the Form's current alignment.
    A row break occurs after an item if any of the following conditions occurs:
    it is a StringItem whose contents ends with "\n"; or
    it has the LAYOUT_NEWLINE_AFTER directive; or
    it is a ChoiceGroup, DateField, Gauge, or a TextField, and the LAYOUT_2 directive is not set.
    Neither there's a directive, that differs from the Form's current alignment, nor there's a newline in
    the StringItem, etc.
    So I guess,there shouldn't be a row break here.
    Thanks, Roland

  • How to wrap text around a table

    I'm new to Pages. The first thing I tried to do was play with tables, because they are the biggest headache in Microsoft Word. However, I ran into a problem right away--I cannot figure out how to wrap text tightly around a table so that the table is surrounded by text on all four sides.
    Does anyone know how to do this? Seems very basic. There is even a button that shows what I want (Text Wrap drop-down --> Around), but when I click on it, nothing happens.

    Peter,
    I can recreate the appearance with five hard returns after the first paragraph, or instead, changing the After Paragraph spacing to 116 pt. Did this with Baskerville Regular 12 pt with line spacing set at 1. Same Arrange settings as shown by OP.

  • How can I make iCal wrap text in month view?

    Lion iCal only dispays one line of text for each entry in month view.  How do I set it to display two lines, or to wrap the text so the full entry can be viewed? On Snow Lepoard it displayed two lines of the same calendar.

    This is also an issue for me.  The way my entries are put into the calendar put the variable information about the event at the end, which means in order to see what the event is, I have to click each event. Very annoying. I'd love to see a fix for this.

  • Center text in a text component with line wrapping

    I need to display dynamic text in a text component. I need line wrapping (on work boundaries) and also need horizontal and vertical center alignment.
    How do I do this? I saw a previous post on aligning text in a JTextArea that said to use a JTextPane but I don't see in JTextPane how to do word wrapping.
    Thanks,

  • How can i wrap text in Pages?

    Hello,
    I am having a hard time finding out exactly how I can "wrap" my text using Pages. I have the most recent version (updated 10/18). This is NOT an issue wrapping text around an object, just a matter of getting the text to wrap instead of hyphenating words from one line to another.
    Thank you!

    Nevermind!
    I figured out that by going to "more" on the formatting tab, you can check "remove paragraph hyphenation" and this will wrap the text.

  • How can I set line wrap on a JButton??

    Hi...
    I am working on an application that required to have a long label on a button and I was wondering if anyone know how to set line wrap on a JButton. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciate.

    If it is not inconvenient for you to use mouse events instead of action events this procedure may be adequate.
    Invoke "createImage" on the JButton to obtain an "Image" object then use "getGraphics" on the image object to get "Graphics" object. Next call "getFontMetrics" on the "Graphics" object to obtain "FontMetrics". Now you can get the size of a String drawn from the "drawString" method of the "Graphics" object. This can be obtained in an int returned from "getHeight" method in "FontMetrics".
    You can obtain the center of the "Image" by using "getSize" method from JButton and dividing it by 2.
    You can get the width of characters by using "FontMetrics" "charsWidth" method. Now you can use the int returned from charsWidth and getHeight to align text in the JButton "Image" by using the "Dimension"
    object returned by the "getSize" method. Now invoke
    the "drawString" method for as many lines of text as you would like to display. After finished drawing strings you
    construct an ImageIcon with its one parameter being the "Image" object you have created and drawn on.
    Now you invoke the "setIcon" method of JButton to insert the ImageIcon as the image displayed on the JButton.
    At this point you have a JButton with all the text you want displayed on it, but with no event handling. So
    you are going to add a MouseListener to the JButton.
    In the MouseListener override the "mouseClicked" method
    inside the method obtain the MouseEvent's location through "getX" and "getY". Next invoke the JButton's
    "getLocation" method to obtain a "Point" object. Now invoke the "Point" objects "getX" and "getY" methods to return the int locations of the origin of the JButton.
    Now invoke the "getSize" method of the JButton to get
    a "Dimension" object containing the size of the JButton.
    Now you can use boolean operations to determine if the
    x, y coordinate that was obtained by the MouseEvent falls within the boundries of the JButton component.
    Something like this:
    public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent mouseEvent) {
    Point point=jbutton.getLocation();
    Dimension dimension=jbutton.getSize();
    int pX=point.getX();
    int pY=point.getY();
    int dW=dimension.width;
    int dH=dimension.height;
    int mX=mouseEvent.getX();
    int mY=mouseEvent.getY();
    if(mX>pX & mX<(pX+dW)) {
    if(mY>pY & mY<(pY+dH)) {
    //This means that the point does indeed fall within
    //the boundries of the JButton, so place the code
    //that would normally appear in actionPerformed
    //within this code block
    Good Luck.

    In the new keynote, the help section refers to the Wrap Inspector.  How does one find that or how does one wrap text around a photo??   Thanks

    You can also use the shape tool to draw a shape roughly following the outline of the graphic you want to wrap text around, change the fill and stroke to "none", then paste your text within the shape. It's a few more steps, but it opens you up to many creative alternative layouts.

  • How Do I Wrap Text Like the iOS Camera App?

    Hello. I am in yearbook, and I have been challenged with designing the cover of the yearbook, and I have been having a few problems along the way. One of these problems is to wrap text. Specifically, I'm stuck on how I would wrap text like the iOS camera app on the bottom of the screen. The words seem like they are wrap around a 3D object to give it that effect, but I can't really tell. If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

No iOS apps are use to work on images  they have no value when you have Photoshop. The iPod is better for displaying image then the iPad mini it has a 3:2 aspect ratio display and travels better the the mini iPad which has a 4:3 aspect ratio display.  I also crop image for display on wall mounted HDTV. The iPad is better for casual internet access then the iPod. All our kids have iPhones and they all use computers either Mac or PC for work and internet access.  When you have a Unix or Windows why would you want to touch an iOS device for work or serious internet access.  Apple mobile devices are convenient for casual use and grand kids don't get that dirty finger painting on them as they do using real paint. Nothing of real value is maintained on an iOS device.
    Well...there's Photoshop Touch and Photoshop Mix as well as Lightroom Mobile. It could be argued that they're don't exactly mirror their desktop cousins, yes, but they weren't meant to be. They were meant as extensions to the desktop experience.  (e.g., Lightroom Mobile lets one work with the RAW images they have in their Lightroom desktop collections.)
    The more powerful Windows tablets can run Photoshop desktop (like Photoshop CC) too.
    @bluebocat: Are you looking for text with a perspective? Like it has a vanishing point? As if it was turned in a certain direction in 3D space?

    Yes. In theme directory i put background.png shortcut for my wallpaper. So, when a change wallpaper, slim background change too.
    Example:
    ln -s mywallpaper.png /usr/share/slim/themes/default/background.png
    So, Slim background always is my wallpaper.
    So the wallpaper has to be a *.png ?
    No, jpg is possible. But when you create a symbolic link, remember put the extension too. If change png to jpg, change a symbolic link extension.
    But, remember if slim theme directory have background.png and background.jpg, Slim always choice .png. So, put only one this.

  • How can I wrap text in a pie in pages?

    How can I wrap text in a pie in pages?

    If you need to insert text into a shape like a pie wedge, the easiest way might be to simply use the shape - freeform tool (at the bottom of the shape menu) and create a shape and type your text in it then place the shape over your pie wedge. The text within the shape should wrap - additional controls for text can be used with the Text Inspector.
    You can edit the actual shape with Format Object > Make Shape Editable option but unfortunately, you have an option to make straight or smooth curves, but not both, so you'll need to shape the object using smooth curves and use the the bezier controls that appear as you select a control point.

  • How do I add space between lines of text in the same cell on Numbers 3.0.1

    I just updated to Mavericks 10.9. In numbers, I used to be able to uncheck a box in the inspector that would make it so the Return key did not move to the next cell, but instead allowed me to add more space between lines of text in the same cell.
    How can I do this in the new version of numbers?

    HI ilb,
    Numbers 3 is a complete rewrite of the application. This preference option hasn't (yet) been included, but N3 is very much a 'work in progress. A word to Apple via Provide Numbers Feedback asking to have this option included in Numbers 3 might be a useful step. You'll find Provide Numbers Feedback in the Numbers menu in Numbers.

    P_ID has a value when the process executes. You can do it this way:
    i. Make this process as a on-load After/Before header process
    ii. Make sure that P_ID page item has value when the process executes (set it from another page or before the pl/sql process executes)
