Linear Encoder and Configure Logging

Hi All,
I am currently using a PCI-6280 M-series board with LV2010.
I have a Linear Encoder in X4 mode connected to Counter 0 and I was wondering if it is possible to stream the values on the counter as it keeps track of the distance into a TDMS file using "DAQmx Configure Logging" . I tried this using MAX to configure this, but it does not seem to work, so I'm just wondering if this is even possible as I couldn't seem to find anything online about doing this.

Hi Lester,
My apologies, I tried it out on a different board. It can work with yours, too, though. There is an example of a buffered counter task that should allow you to log the data by adding in the Configure Logging VI like we did before.
Open LabVIEW and go to Help >> Find Examples... it will open the Example Finder. In the Example Finder, expand the folders to get to Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx >> Counter Measurements >> Count Digital Events >> Count Digital Events-Buffered-Countinuous-Ext Clk.vi
Put the correct counter channel and PFI channel in the controls, and run the VI to see what it does. Then you can modify the block diagram to add the Configure Logging VI (the same way as before) and run the VI again. You will end up with a TDMS log saved at the path you wire into the Configure Logging VI.

Does anyone know how or if it is possible to send the stdout and/or stderr to the log4j type of logging? I already capture the stdout and stderr to the flat file. But I would like to timestamp every line to compare and diagnose problems with each application that encounters problems. Each web app is using log4j to their own application log4j log file. When they encounter errors or resource draining problems, I would like to see the container logs and see what was occuring inside the container at around that same time.
Any ideas?

Linear Encoder, Counting Ticks

To all,
I have the VI created for the linear encoder and everything works fine, except when it comes to counting ticks. When the encoder moves in the positive direction from initial position, the ticks are counted correctly, but when I move the encoder in the negative direction from the initial position, the encoder immediately reads "4.29E+9". It continually reads this value moving backwards, and will not accurately measure position until the encoder has been moved an equal distance forward, back to its initial position, then it counts forward correctly. Any speculation as to why it reads this number? Any suggestions for fixing?

You can easily adapt it for a linear encoder but even the original version will allow you to check your setup. Please read the NI-DAQmx help for the default terminals for your DAQ card.

Configure Logging VI start and stop without losing or dropping data

Hi there,
I am currently using a M-series PCI-6280 and a counter card PCI-6601 to do measurements on Labview 2010.
I have 3 tasks set up, 2 linear encoder counter tasks on the 6601 and 1 analog input task with 4 x inputs on my 6280. These are all timed with a counter on the 6601 through an RTSI line.
On all of these tasks, I have a similar set-up as the picture in http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/9574 except they are all set up as "Log" only and "create/replace" file for the configure logging.vi.
Since I want to have the encoders continuously locate my position, I never "stop" the counter tasks. However, I need to use the data acquired after every move along the path to obtain and process the location and the subsequent analog input data points I have. What I have done, is I would "stop.vi" my sample clock on the counter, then open the tdms file, read the tdms file, get the array from there, close the tdms file, then "run.vi" the sample clock on the counter. However, I found when I stop the sample clock, not ALL the data points have been streamed into the file.
For example, say I move my carriage to 100mm to the right while logging, then stop the sample clock, obtain the array from the tdms file, find the size of this array called "X" for future use. Then, I move the carraige back to the origin WITHOUT starting the clock again. THEN I start the sample clock again and move 100mm towards the left. After this is done, I again, stop the sample clock and obtain the data from my tdms file starting the offset of read at "X+1". I EXPECT that this array SHOULD start at 0 then move on to 100mm to the left. However, what it does, is I see the data start at 100mm from the right for a few data points, then JUMPS to 0, then moves to the left as expected.
I propose that this means that when I stop the sample clock, the data from the counters (buffer?) have not all been streamed to the tdms file yet, and when I start the clock again, the remaining gets dumped it. Here, I am confused since I thought that "configure logging.vi" streams directly into the file without a buffer.
I was wondering if I am doing anything wrong, expecting the wrong things, and if there is a way to implement what I want. As in, is there a way to flush the remaning data in the "buffer" (i tried the flush tdms vi, but that didn't work and I didn't think it was relevant) after I stop the clock or something like that, or is my implementation competely off.

PS. Having a way to read the most recent point from the counters would be awesome too. However, everytime I set the offset/relative to most current, it says that I cant do that while logging, even though I saw a community post saying that it works with analog inputs. Maybe this is off topic, but yeah, currently I'm just trying to get the arrays from tdms working, THANKS!

Hello, Lester!
There are a few solutions for you here.
First, since you don't need the excess data points, you can set the "DAQmx Read" Property Node to "Overwrite" any data from previous acquisitions.
To do this, first select a "DAQmx Read Property Node" from the functions palette. The first property should default to "RelativeTo." Click on this, and instead select "OverWrite Mode" (see attached). Next, right-click on the input, create constant, and select "Overwrite Unread Samples" from the drop-down enum. After wiring the other inputs and outputs on the node, This should accomplish what you're looking for. If for some reason it doesn't, consider the following options.
Your second option is to limit the buffer size. If you know how long you want to acquire data for, you can use the sampling rate (it looks like 5000Hz, in your case) to determine the number of samples to acquire. Simply use the "DAQmx Buffer Property Node" and input the number of samples desired. When the required number of samples is acquired, the buffer will begin to overwrite the old samples. This, of course, is not a very flexible method, and obviously requires a pre-set number of data points.
Your final option is to do a brute-force open and close of your task with each acquisition. Simply use the "Clear Task" and "Create Task" functions with every new set of data desire. This should clear the buffer, but will be fairly slow (especially if you eventually change your program to take many sets of data very quickly).
As mentioned, the "OverWrite" property in the "DAQmx Read" node should take care of this for you, but feel free to try the other options if they better suit your needs.

DAQmx configure logging (TDMS) and counter

Hi,
I'm trying to stream analog data jointly with counter data to one TDMS file with use of DAQmx configure logging vi. This is quite new but powerful function but I can't manage with it successfully. I'm able to acquire analog data only and display no. of counts simultaneously (attached diagram). I have no idea how attach counter data to TDMS stream as separate channel group.
It is important for me to stream data with this VI bacause I'm sampling analog data with 95kHz per channel (PCI-6143 board).
Could you post any ideas how to resolve this problem?

Yes I thought about producer/consumer structure, It is first alternative way.
There is also another very simple way - connecting encoder to analog input and acquire together with analog signals. Of course It will be neccasary to process sigal from encoder after recording. I'm also concerning such solution

Do I have to use an external clock with a cDAQ-9188 and NI 9401 to read a linear encoder? I'm seeing error message that implies that but the example code doesn't show it.

We can set up a task that works on demand but when we go to continuous sampleing we see Error -200303, which claims an external sample clock source must be specified for this application. However, some of the NI linear encoder example code doesn't show that (uses the cDAQ 80 Mhz clock) and the documentation didn't mention that.

It's mentioned in the 918x user manual:
Unlike analog input, analog output, digital input, and digital output, the cDAQ chassis counters do not have the ability to divide down a timebase to produce an internal counter sample clock. For sample clocked operations, an external signal must be provided to supply a clock source. The source can be any of the following signals:
AI Sample Clock
AI Start Trigger
AI Reference Trigger
AO Sample Clock
DI Sample Clock
DI Start Trigger
DO Sample Clock
CTR n Internal Output
Freq Out
PFI
Change Detection Event
Analog Comparison Event
Assuming you have at least one available counter (there are 4 on the backplane), I would suggest to configure a continuous counter output task and use its internal output as the sample clock. Specify the internal counter using an "_" for example "cDAQ1/_ctr0". The terminal to use for the sample clock source would be for example "/cDAQ1/Ctr0InternalOutput".
Which example uses the 80 MHz timebase as a sample clock? It is far too fast for a sample clock on the 9188 according to the throughput benchmarks (80 MHz * 4 byte samples = 320 MB/s). There is also no direct route between the 80 MHz timebase and the sample clock terminal for the counters--making this route would use a second counter anyway.

Hey Atrina,
The actual data stored on disk is just the raw data (that is, a byte per sample in your case). It's really just a matter of how that data is being represented in LabVIEW whenever you read back the TDMS file.
I'm not sure if there is a better way to do this, but here is a way to accomplish what you're wanting:
Read back the TDMS file as a digital waveform. Then there's a conversion function in LabVIEW called DWDT Digital to Binary. This function will convert that set of digital channels into the "port format" that you're wanting. I've attached an example of what I mean.
Note: When looking at this VI, there are a few things that the downgrade process did to the VI that I would not recommend for these TDMS files. It added a 1.0 constant on the TDMS Open function, and it set "disable buffering" on the TDMS Open function to false; you can get rid of both of those constants.

Linear encoder (newall SGH) controlled with motion cotnroll UMI7764 and LabView

Hi,
I would like to intsall my linear encoder (SGH PC) onto the motion controll box (UMI7764). After that I have to use LabView to controll the encoder. It should give me the position of a piston and also the limits for this piston. So at first I just want to controll the position of the piston and then give the limits or controll the piston with it.
My problem is I have no idea how? How can I get my signals out of the encoder into my LabView programm? I got the key for the pins but still unclear how to get my signals and what to do with them.

Dann formuliere ich meine Aufgabe einfach noch mal auf Deutsch um Missverstaendnisse auszuloeschen.
Meine Aufgabe ist es einen Linear Encoder (SGH PC) an einen Piston (wie heisst das auf Deustch?) anzubringen und anzusteuern. Zunaechst soll nur die Position des Piston damit bestimmt werden, danach aber auch Vorgaben gesetzt werden. Heisst, ich gebe eine Routine vor und der Piston macht das dann hoffentlich auch.
Um den Encoder ansteuern und auslesen zu koennen stehen mir eine Motion Controll Card (UMI 7764) und eine PCI 7324, sowie LabView 8.6.
Zur Zeit sind wir noch mit der Installation des Encoders beschaeftigt, doch bald werd ich auch programmtechnisch handlegen muessen. Leider hab ich noch nie mit einer PCI oder all dem Anderem gearbeitet und kenne mich daher nicht damit aus.
Fang ich also mit einer Grundlegenden Frage an: Hat LabView ein VI was es mir ermoeglicht die benoetigten Kanaele aus dem PCI auslesen zu lassen und wieder zu schliessen? Dann waere die Positionsbestimmung ja hoffentlich nciht so kompliziert.

Oracle recommends SAME - Stripe And Mirror Everything.
In the RAC Starter Kit documentation, they specifically recommend not using RAID5 for things like voting disk and so on.
SAN vendors otoh claims that their RAID5 implementations are as fast as RAID10. They do have these massive memory caches...
But I would rather err on the safer side. I usually insist on RAID10 - and for those databases that I do not have a vested interest in (other than as a DBA), and owners, developers and management accept RAID5, I put the lead pipe away and do not insist on having it my way. :-)

Configure Log File for each web application deployed in weblogic server usi

How do I configure Log4J to log separately for each web application? i.e. Assuming, I have a web application "AWeb" and a web application "BWeb". I need a log file to be created for AWeb Separately and BWeb Separately. i.e. All the log information for "AWeb" web application will be stored in AWeb.log and all the "BWeb" web application will be stored in BWeb.log
Do you have any sample code and configuration details for the above-mentioned requirement?

You do not need to do anything strange, just use log4j the usual way with the exception that you do not need to init log4j (this is not necesary when using a log4j.xml.)
A minimal sample of a log4j.xml is

Linear encoder

Hi All
I want to record the position(rotation) signal. If there are 1024 pulse per revolution, I want the position signal to increase linearly(1023,1024,1025......). Shall I use Linear encoder or Angular encoder (From DAQmx creat virtual channel).

Hi lvymerciqq,
For Devices without Counters:
Your module, the NI-9411 doesn't have any on board counters, so unfortunately you cannot use counter functions such as the Linear/Angular encoder DAQmx channel VIs. If you're using a Compact RIO, you can make use of Counters for the device via the use of Scan Mode (You can see this in the NI Example Finder). However, if you're using a Compact DAQ then there are no Counters to make use of so we'd have to implement our own methods in order to clock the signals. For now, I'd think that this application would be limited by being software driven (i.e. making the OS check that a rising edge has occured) however I'm going to do some research and see whether or not there are other possibilities that can be explored; however it won't consist of such a simple solution as just dropping down a single polymorphic VI.
For Devices with Counters:
You can configure a Counter task to count the number of rising edges recieved from the encoder; therefore this number will increment on every increased rotation of the encoder. You'll have to be careful with respect to this number rolling over, however. This is when you reach the maximum count of your counter task and then it resets back to 0; this changes from device to device as different counters have different resolutions.

This might be an issue with the gacutil that you are using. I have used the gacutil that comes with Microsoft SDK.
You can install Microsoft SDK from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3138

How to find out logs related to which server, If i have 2 WFE's in the farm. How to configure logs path?

I got this doubt, when searching logs on the servers. I have 2 WFE's in my farm, I got an error from enduser. So in which WFE server i need to check the logs.
How to configure logs path. Is it is possible to specify logs path on our own instead of 14 hive folder.

That is a really bad idea, especially with idle disconnects and other unreliability of CIFS.
You should instead check out the command
Merge-SPLogFiles which will allow you to combine ULS logs from multiple servers into a single file.
You can certainly specify your own path, but the path must be available on all servers. For example, if you specified D:\Logs, D:\Logs must exist on all SharePoint servers within the farm.

Oracle Enterprise Manager Agent deployment (Installation and Configuration) Error

Hello,
I am trying to create an agent on a linux server using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.3. The user is created with root privilege on the server, by change /etc/sudoers entry username the same as the root entry. After that I tried to add host target by clicking Setup->Add Target->Add target Manually->Add Host Targets in the Oracle Enterprise Manager.
In the Add Target view: I clicked on add, then I entry host and platform information. After that I click next. Then I provided the Linux x86-64 : Installation Details for
Installation Base Directory, Instance Directory, Name Credential ... then click next. then click Deploy Agent.
In the Add Host Status view: stages Initialization and Remote Prerequisite Check successfully passed, but in the stage Agent Deployment, it failed in the Installation and Configuration phrase of the Agent Deployment stage.
The log content is shown below. There are numerous SEVERE Errors. But I don't have much experience in dealing with these type of problems. I thank you in advance for all the helps.

On Enterprise Manager server [nsn175-105], we did the following:
1. we modified /etc/exports to include this line: /export *(rw,no_root_squash,sync)
we start nfs service by executing command “service nfs start”.
On Management Agent server (nsn175-89), we verified that we are able to mount /export directory of EM server.
On Management Agent server, we started firefox browser and were able to run successfully https://nsn175-105.us.oracle.com:4904/empbs/genwallet
After making this change, we ran agent deployment again. We encountered the same error as shown above.

For fixing the software library, select Setup->Provision and Patching->Offline Patching, then select Offline Patching radio button, download: https://updates.oracle.com/download/em_catalog.zip. Next upload this zip file.

We are not sure what agent bits are. Would you please explain this and provide procedure how we can download this?
(Here I have attempted to fix the software library, but I am new to Enterprise Manager and not sure how to interpret this).

How to install and configure Oracle 10g Express Edition on Fedora 11?

Hi everyone!
I have recently installed Oracle 10g XE on my Laptop Gateway T-1625, which has Fedora 11.
I followed the install instructions on [http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/tutorial/DBXETutorial/index.htm] , and configured the server as explained, but something is wrong... When I try to go to the database home page http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex, I get "Failed to Connect" on Firefox 3.5b4... I don't think it's because of the Firefox version because it's proved to be very stable (for a beta).
I've search for similar issues on GNU/Linux and I found this thread in these forums: [ http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=915218&tstart=0] , but the solution is for Ubuntu 9.04, and if it's possible I would like to know a specific solution for Fedora 11.
I also tried to see the oracle server status with:

After your last post I realized that the dba group and the oracle user already existed.
#groupadd dba
groupadd: group dba exists
#useradd oracle -d /home/oracle -s /bin/bash -g dba
useradd: user oracle existsHowever, I finally assigned a password for that account and changed the ownership of the /usr/lib/oracle/xe
with the commands you suggested:
passwd oracle
chown -R oracle:dba /usr/lib/oracle/xeAfter this, I can log in as the oracle user but the SELinux showed a warning and the /usr/lib/oracle/xe
is treated as the oracle home, and no .bashrc file is located on this home. This is the SELinux warning:
SELinux is preventing gdm-session-wor (xdm_t) "write" to /usr/lib/oracle/xe (lib_t).
Details:
SELinux denied access requested by gdm-session-wor. /usr/lib/oracle/xe may
be a mislabeled. /usr/lib/oracle/xe default SELinux type is user_home_dir_t, but its
current type is lib_t. Changing this file back to the default type, may fix your problem.
File contexts can be assigned to a file in the following ways.
* Files created in a directory receive the file context of the parent
directory by default.
* The SELinux policy might override the default label inherited from the parent directory
by specifying a process running in context A which creates a file in a directory
labeled B will instead create the file with label C.
An example of this would be the dhcp client running with the dhclient_t type and
creates a file in the directory /etc. This file would normally receive the etc_t type due
to parental inheritance but instead the file is labeled with the net_conf_t type
because the SELinux policy specifies this.
* Users can change the file context on a file using tools such as chcon, or restorecon.
This file could have been mislabeled either by user error, or if an normally confined
application was run under the wrong domain.
However, this might also indicate a bug in SELinux because the file should not have
been labeled with this type.
If you believe this is a bug, please file a bug report (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/enter_bug.cgi)
against this package.
Allowing Acces:
You can restore the default system context to this file by executing the restorecon command.
restorecon '/usr/lib/oracle/xe', if this file is a directory, you can recursively restore using
restorecon -R '/usr/lib/oracle/xe'.
Fix command:
restorecon '/usr/lib/oracle/xe'I suppose the command #useradd oracle -d /home/oracle -s /bin/bash -g dba is where I can define the user's home, but if this user already exists how can I modify its settings?
is SELinux preventing the .bashrc file to be created? or what could be causing this?.
