LineChart: reading xml in as3
I'm trying to populate a lineChart with data in xml format. I
don't know how to load the xml into the LineChart and LineSeries
objects. I know that lineChart.series expects data in the form of
an array, but do not know how to work around this.
How can I get my xml to work?
if you want to use the legacy(AS2) XML class for interpreting
your XML, it has been renamed XMLDocument in AS3. so you could use:
var myXML:XMLDocument=XMLDocument(myLoader.data);
and continue to use your firstChild, childNodes etc.
But if you want to try the AS3 methods for interpreting XML,
called E4X, use the XML class. You'll find E4X much more intuitive
and easier to use.
The structure of XML hasn't changed at all, just the way
Flash deals with it, so to answer your question, you do not need to
rewrite your xml code to a different format.
That said, however, you do need to look at your specific xml
code as it isn't well formed. the last two tags are outside of the
root tag. i've added indentation below to make this clear.
The help is quite thorough on the new xml classes - read the
section under Programming ActionScript 3.0, Working with XML, and
if you've still got issues, feel free to post specific
questions.

Creating metadata in Flash CS3 and reading it in AS3
Is there a way to store metadata in a library symbol in Flash
CS3, and then read it in AS3? For example, I want to have the
following code run:
m_Metadata = 'You're cool!'
I need this data before I can play the movie clip. Is there a
way to store this? I've been trying to find a solution, but it
looks like I'm just going to have to load in a separate XML file
with the data.
Thanks!Unfortunately there's no simple way to add instance level
code in Flash CS3 or CS4 with AS3. This is a significant authoring
tool deficiency in my opinion.
Making a component... depending on what you want to do, there
can be a lot of overhead. There may also be some very flaky/buggy
behavior in Flash CS3 with custom components if your experience is
anything like mine. However, for basic metadata, try this:
1. Select the Symbol in the Library
2. Right click, choose Component Definition...
3. In the Parameters data grid you can add
parameters/properties. Make sure you set the "Variable" field as a
unique identifier for each parameter. These are the properties
you'll use in AS at runtime to retrieve the values.
4. Now on each instance on the canvas you can go to the
Parameters tab and enter custom values for each parameter.
5. At runtime, you should be able to access the values via
instance_name.variable_name
I believe that will work without actually creating a
component class and making it functional. -
OK, so I think I have the basics of loading XML in AS3. But I
can't seem to access the info once it is loaded. I'm using the to
load the .xml file:
var myXML:XML = new XML();
var XML_URL:String = "music.xml";
var myXMLURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest(XML_URL);
var myLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(myXMLURL);
myLoader.addEventListener("complete", xmlLoaded);
function xmlLoaded(event:Event):void
myXML = XML(myLoader.data);
trace("Data loaded.");
But when I go to trace the .xml file with this:
trace(myXML.toXMLString());
I get nothing. However, if I place this trace inside the
xmlLoaded function it traces it out. My problem is I want access to
the info outside of that function. What am I doing wrong? Any
advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.backpages,
> But when I go to trace the .xml file with this:

This looks like a matter of timing. Your first five lines
are
encountered one after the other, starting with var myXML
through
myLoader.addEventListener(), which calls a function defined
immediately
below that. The function is called when the "complete" event
is dispatched,
which may take longer or shorter depending on the size of the
XML document
and network traffic. If you put a trace() statement
immediately below that,
Flash will execute that too -- and at the moment it does,
your XML document
hasn't loaded yet.
> However, if I place this trace inside the xmlLoaded
function it
> traces it out. My problem is I want access to the info
outside
> of that function. What am I doing wrong?
I copy/pasted your code exactly, then followed it with this:
var t:Timer = new Timer(5000);
t.addEventListener(
TimerEvent.TIMER,
function():void {
trace(myXML);
t.start();
... which waits five seconds, then runs that trace(). Sure
enough, it
outputs the XML contents.
If you want to use the myXML variable elsewhere in your
movie, you just
have to make sure those other locations don't reference the
variable until
it has a value (or account for a lack of value in the logic
they use). You
might, for example, put a stop() action in frame one, along
with the
existing code (and instead of my timer), then have the
"complete" event
handler issue a play() action. In later frames, the myXML
variable would
have the data you need, because the playhead won't advance
until the data
have been loaded.

Hello, i have some trouble finding information in the
'migration section' about the replacement command's
for reading XML in actionscript 3.0.
For example, the firstChild, childNodes commands don't work
anymore.
I find it hard to understand the help files about xml and
don't know how to do it the proper way.
If i would read this xml (for building a drop down menu)
example from kirupa.com
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<menu name="links">
<menu name="macromedia">
<item name="flash" action="gotoURL" variables="
http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash"/>
<item name="dreamweaver" action="gotoURL" variables="
http://www.macromedia.com/software/dreamweaver"/>
<item name="fireworks" action="gotoURL" variables="

</menu>

<item name="home" action="gotoURL" variables="
http://www.kirupa.com"/>
<item name="forums" action="gotoURL" variables="
http://www.kirupaforum.com/forums/index.php"/>

<item name="web" action="gotoURL" variables="
http://www.kirupa.com/web/index.htm"/>
</menu>
</menu>
<item name="google" action="gotoURL" variables="
http://www.google.com"/>
</menu>
I have this so far..:
var myXML:XML = new XML();
var XML_URL:String = "menu1.xml";
var myXMLURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest(XML_URL);
var myLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(myXMLURL);
myLoader.addEventListener("complete", xmlLoaded);
function xmlLoaded(event:Event):void
myXML = XML(myLoader.data);
trace(myXML.children());
trace("Data loaded.");
Is there some more clear information about the new way of
reading XML ?
Or do i also need to

FM to read XML files from Application server in ECC5.0
Hi All,
We need to pick up an XML file from Application server/FTP server. The requirement is to parse the XML file and process it to create material master. SAP provides standard function modules to read XML files.
Now we need to read the XML file contents of MM01 and upload into SAP Data Base through BAPI
I need to know about the Function modules to read XML files from Application Server and also about the FM's that will update the Date base tables with the data obtained form XML files.

Is there any way to read XML directly from a Web Page ??
i have a url, which on sending request, shows XML in browser.
Now i need to read this XML in browser and then manipulate it according to my need and display it on another page.
actually the process is. :
1) i have to first retrieve an xml from other site. (XML will only be shown in browser)
2.)then i have to read the Xml and show it in according to my requirements.
Is there any way to read XML directly from a Web Page ??
is their logic to accomplish this.
e.g in Servlet i can do somewhat like this :
String wholeXml=Somemethod(url);
Please Advicethe average Java XML parser will accept an InputStream, so just open an URLConnection to the webpage, get the inputstream from it and feed that inputstream to the XML parser. If the URL has valid XML data, it will get parsed without problems.

Reading XML file from application server and put into internal table-4.6C
Dear All,
Is there any way of reading XML file from application server to SAP? I am using 4.6C. Function module SCMS_STRING_TO_XSTRING function module is not available. Please suggest.
Thanks and regards,
AtanuHi Atanu!
Simply use the XSLT transformation 'ID'.
FIELD-SYMBOLS <ls_result> TYPE ANY.
CREATE DATA lref_data TYPE (your_structure).
ASSIGN lref_data->* TO <ls_result>.
CALL TRANSFORMATION id
SOURCE XML xmlstr
RESULT result = <ls_result>.
"xmlstr" contains your XML file. Just read it into it via standard I/O operations. "<ls_result>" will contain your DDIC formatted content.

Reading XML file using BAPI I must use adapters .
Reading XML file using BAPI and then uploading that xml file data into SAP using BDC.
I cant take file on to my Application server I am getting the file dynamically from other file server and I need to use BAPis to read data from XML file.please tell me what should be my Import,Export and Tables parameterrs should be.
ThanksHi,
Import, export and table parameters for BAPI is required, without that BAPI will not able to collect the data from XML. What you need to do is write a Zprogram and collect the data, store that data in internal table and call the BAPI by passing required parameters.
Different Scanarios:
1) Before calling a BAPI write some other program which collects the data from XML and create a UNIX file. Try to get the data from UNIX FILE
2) If you see the XML tags, data will be in side that tags, try to get the data from XML tags and store that data in one SAP table. You can use the BAPI by fetching the data from table
3)Create a table and store the data in the table. Use the table in SAP to extract the data.
BAPI won't work without any parameters, you have to pass some parameters then the BAPI will return some values.
Hope i am clear.
