Lines damaged by tractor trailer ... New modem unlikely to help

I saw a tractor trailer hook and nearly rip from the poles the power and AT&T lines down about noon Monday 7/20.
I called customer service, which offered to send me a new modem by mail in a few days. This is unacceptable because I work from home and cannot miss this entire week from work. I asked for a repair tech to be dispatched to my home; I was told it would be more than 24 hours before that could occur, between 4 and 8 pm on 7/21, which are times I'm not available. Every minute I'm without service is costing me money. Please get a tech out here to check the line. [edited for privacy-please do not post personal or unique information such as but not limited to full names, employee ID numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, etc.].

The saga continues ...
I got home this afternoon to find the concrete and brick edging along the walk to my front porch and along my driveway ripped out with my supposed-to-be-buried new AT&T line laid on the dirt below and the bricks and concrete blocks randomly replaced (in the wrong locations) so poorly that a slight touch made them roll away. The new line was not hooked up to the AT&T box, but a coil of line was left at the bottom of my back stairs as a perfect tripping hazard. And the gate to my fenced back yard wasn't closed.
I called to complain and have been referred to AT&T's insurer, Sedgwick Inc.
(Sarcastically) Thanks, AT&T! Wonderful job!

  • I got a new modem and imac says connected with the airport, but cant get a web page to come up on either safari or firefox

I started having internet problems with all my devices in the house, ipod, imac, pc laptop, tablets, etc... found out after being on the phone with comcast for hours, they determined my modem that they supply was bad. So I have the new modem now and very simple to install it and get everything working. However, I cannot get online with a web browser of any sort on my imac. which had no issues before.
All my devices in the house work perfectly now with the new modem and my speeds are great, and even the imac (with the airporter) states it is connected. but I cant do anything pertaining to the internet. I have spent hours on the tech line with comcast and they cant seem to find the issue and said it is with my Imac, even though it was working fine before.
Does anyone have any ideas, is there simply something I'm missing, please help. As I stated before, everything else that we own works great and has great connection. and the Imac states it is connected, but mail, internet, non of that works...??????

  • Airport extreme blinking amber light error when connecting to new modem

I have just bought and installed a new modem gateway.  It is an Arris TG852G DOC 3.0 model with a built in WiFi router.
After connecting it and activating it through Comcast, I reset, then reconnected my airport extreme MD0331LL/A Model No. A1408 to the new Arris
modem, I am getting blinking amber lights on the base station.  I have internet connectivity, but I am still getting an amber light.  My wireless devices (ipad and iphones) all see the old network name and id and seem to work just fine.
When I scanned for my airport base station in my airport utility (version 5.6.1)  to try to resolve the error message I get
a message stating that the Airport Utility is not detecting any airport devices.
I cannot reset the default settings as these buttons do not work within the Airport Utility.
I suspect interference between the built in router in the Arris and I understand I need to operate it in bridge mode.  Can you please help me fix this.
The COMCAST people are extremely unhelpful, and stated that this is not their problem but a problem with my router
as they have provifded me  internet connectivity through the modem and the issue is my problem.

Try connecting an Ethernet cable from your computer directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to see if AirPort Utility can detect the AirPort Extreme that way.
If yes, click on the AirPort Extreme and then click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page)
A window will open to explain why the amber light is blinking
If the message indicates that you need to configure the AirPort in Bridge Mode......
Click the Internet icon at the top of the window
Click the Internet Connection tab just below
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update at the lower right of the window to save the new setting and restart the AirPort Extreme
You can disconnect the Ethernet cable that you were using to configure the AirPort Extreme now
It would be a good idea to power off both the Arris gateway and the AirPort Extreme now
    Wait a minute
Start the Arris first, and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
    You should be all set

  • New modem affecting iChat?

    Hi,
I've recently installed a new modem (Thomson ST780WL) - it's one of them VOIP ones. I'm in The Netherlands and I used to be able to iChat to a friend in the UK who has an Orange Livebox, but since I've had the new modem I get the "insufficient bandwidth" error when trying to start an audio chat with him. I'm guessing the two are related. It doesn't work regardless of who initiates the call. The firewall is on at my modem. We've both checked our Quicktime settings. He's running 10.3.9 on an iBook G4. I have plenty of bandwidth and so does he.
I haven't resorted to any port forwarding in my modem yet, because -
    1. I didn't fiddle with my previous modem (Speedtouch) and that worked OK with the firewall on.
    2. I can audio chat with the apple test sites (or at least I hear some audio).
    3. My friend says he can start an audio chat with the apple test sites (although I haven't watched him doing it so he may just mean that he can see the green light).
The only significant thing I've done to my new modem is unbind SIP from port 5060
    connection unbind application=SIP port=5060
    or something like that.
I did this because Gizmo, which is my fallback option when iChat doesn't work, wouldn't work with the new modem. It did after that. BTW, in my experience, iChat never works with student halls in the UK, whereas Gizmo does.
So I guess my questions are :-
    1. If I can audio chat with an apple test site, and so can he, wouldn't that mean we should be able to talk to each other? I realise that there's a difference here - when we're testing with apple, in both cases we are the ones initiating the call, whereas when we talk to each other, one of us is accepting the call.
    2. Is port forwarding the solution?
I can post my error log if you like.
    Thanks.

I am not sure I can split the info down to any smaller chunks than it is already in the link I supplied in my first post.
    I will try.
Certain manufacturers force their modems to make sure SIP is always on port 5060.
The International standard for SIP did say that SIP should have the option of one of 4 ports (5060-5063)
The forcing (Binding) of SIP to port 5060 limits it to this one port.
At this point two things are somewhat of concern.
    1) Because this is forced/bound by a NAT action it adds data to the NAT info that is being sent out in the packets from your end so that return info knows where to send it once it arrives back at you modem (or router). The way this is done and the NAT Data at the head of the packets seems to be the problem.
    2) If you have a VoIP phone or device (which uses SIP as part of the VoIP protocol) then you have a problem as all SIP data is using one port and in this situation it should use two (one for Each device or application).
    I had a Thomson-Alcatel Speedtouch as I said.
It certainly had the SIP binding in version 3 firmware.
It could be unbound by the telnet command using Terminal on a Mac or the Command Line Interface on a PC.
The Version 4 firmware (up to 4.2.9) could also be unbound fully.
    Side bar.
Version 4.3 firmware is an attempt to create version 5 firmware for version 4 and earlier devices that can not run Version 5 itself and has the same issues.
    At version 5 things changed.
You performed the Unbinding and got a message that it was done. The success rate of Video and Audio chats went up but the errors that did come up still had the same Symptoms and error logs.
Some testing by a Poster who posts here as ibosie with Thomson-Alcatel came to the knowledge that the unbinding is not fully implemented in version 5 firmware onwards.
I hope this is clearer for you.

  • Cannot connect to broadband with new modem

    Hello
Had to upgrade my setup with a new router and a new modem.
The modem is a TP-link 8817 and I have followed the instructions to set it up.
All went through fine and I can see the ADSL status as 'showtime' and can see the sync rate fine too.
What I cannot see is the ip address, dns and gateway field populated. The status of the line is "Down"
I am connecting using PPoA VC MUX using a MTU of 1400 with VPI 0 and VCI 38. Frankly I cannot see what I am doing wrong.
I have got FON on the line which is not disconnected yet, would that be an issue?
    THanks

Yes, you normally need a password, otherwise many routers simply do not authenticate.

  • New Modem will not connect

I received a new modem from Verizon today, and I can't get it to connect to the internet.  They said that my old modem (which I'm working with right now) was too old.
I've hooked up everything right, but I must be missing a few steps or something.
It's a D-link modem (wireless or wired).  I can get all the lights to come on (green) but I can't get my computer on the internet with it.  Here's the steps I've already taken:
    1. Disconnected the old modem, including all cords and cables
    2. connected the phone line to the modem
    3. Plugged in the router
    4. turned the router/modem on.
    5. Connected the Ethernet port to my computer
Do I need to call Verizon?

set the extreme to connect to the cable modem
as use the extreme to get on the internet
another option could be to update the firmware of the cable modem

  • New modem, now my iPhone 4 can't join wifi network

Can anyone help? My Verizon modem died, and I received the new modem today from Verizon. I plugged it in, and was able to get my laptop to connect to wifi with no problem, but my iPhone 4 will not connect. I select the network, enter the password, and it says "Unable to join the network." I've tried turning the phone off and back on, and turned off the modem, unplugged it (power cord and phone line), plugged it back in and turned it back on, and still no luck. Any ideas?

        Hello emilyah9!
Let's get that device connected to your Wifi signal! You have already done what I would have suggested first, which is reset the router. You've also already powered the device off and on. Please reset the network settings on your device to see if that gets this resolved. Here is the link: http://vz.to/100ziru
Lastly, please try turning off the Wifi on your iPhone 4, then turn it back on and try to connect.
    Keep me posted, thanks!

  • F4580 and can't connect to new modem/router

This printer was working ok with the old router but won't connect with new modem/router.

Yup, this is expected.  You will have to re-install the printer.  Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page, run the installation and choose "Wireless" or "Network" when it asks.  You will have to temporarily use a USB cable to communicate with the printer.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • AX loses connection after being plugged into new modem

Our Internet connection had become real slow. (HN9000 Modem through HUGHES net satellite service).  Our provider did some diagnostics and determined we needed a new modem and our satelitte was out of alignment.  Hooked up the new modem. All was fine for about 2 days. Internet connection lost and yellow light appeared on the AX.  I have to unplug the modem and or the AX and then re establish the network connection and the AX connection. This has now been going on for about 3 weeks. I have made numerous calls to my provider and they claim it's the AX.  (version 802.11N).   The AX is only about 2 feet from my MAC.  I have a brand new ethernet cord. ALL connections are tight!   HELP??  (If I connect the modem directly to the MAC, No issues) Thank you

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

I am trying to add a wireless printer to my MacBook Pro.  It was working properly until we had to get a new modem.  I have gone through the steps with the printer customer service rep, and it was working properly for one day.  When I booted up the next morning, the printer was no longer "connected".  It will work if I have the printer and computer connected, but I much prefer the wireless capability.  Suggestions? The printer is a Brother MFC7860DW.  The other laptop in the house (Dell) can print wirelessly so I don't think it's an issue with the modem or the printer.

  • How do I get my router to work with my new modem?

Since the mods deleted my other post, so no one could see it and think anything bad about linksys's customer service, I will just have to ask a dumb noob question. I am not an IT professional, I am just a regular, non-technical kind of guy. I tried to follow the little guides that they have here, but they leave out too many steps for someone like me, who never does this kind of thing. Or at least, I have to assume that it does, cause it still does not work after I have tried the guide to my router, several times. I have to say that I am at my wits end with this stuff, since my whole home network is down. My router is a WRT54GS V7. But in an attempt to solve my problem, I updated to the latest firmware. My modem is a Motorola 2210-02. My ISP is AT&T. I have tried to get help from them, they do not care. I had to buy a new modem cause their other siemens speedstream 4100B died. So can anyone tell me, step by step, what to do to make my home network up and running again? Sorry about the rant, and the clear frustration, but I can not get any help from anywhere. So this is my last resort.

As your ISP is an DSL Provider, to configure your Router with the DSL Provider there are certain rules which you need to follow to configure your router to work with the DSL Provider..
Connect the Modem to the Linksys router on the Internet Port and then connect your computer to the Router on the LAN Port 1. Login to the Router setup and below you need to change the "Local IP address", By default its 192.168.1.1 so you need to change it to 192.168.5.1 and click on Save Settings....
Once you are done with the settings, you need to power cycle your network. Unplug the power from the Router and Modem, wait for 30 sec and then plug the power to the Modem first and when all the lights are solid on your modem then plug the power to the Linksys router..
Now check if you are Online from your Wired Computer.

  • Do I need to reconfigure airport extreme with a new modem?

I looking into buying a new modem (Motorola SB6120) to take advantage of Comcast's DOCSIS 3.0 speeds.  Just wondering if I will have to reconfigure my airport extreme?

You shouldn't have to reconfigure the AirPort Extreme, but it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking equipment when replacing any one of them.
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
(OPTIONAL) While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.

  • Do I need a new modem or a router or neither?

I realise this may dovetail with other posts but I need one or two things to be clarified... Just got airport express which I haven't used before. My modem is ADSL with a USB connection so it's no good for connecting to the airport; I presume I need a new modem with ethernet connection (yes? no?) or, as PC users keep telling me (wary of taking any advice from them) I need a modem router. Can anyone help to shed light on this as I don't know enough yet about wireless connection. Thanks

Just to add a bit to Franks post as to why you would choose a modem or router.
The advantage of an Ethernet modem being that no additional configuration is necessary on the Airport Express and all the features such as iChat AV will work without complicated port forwarding etc. But steer Clear of the D-Link DSL-300T as it is currently incompatible with the latest Airport Firmware.
The Advantage of a router is that they typically have multiple Ethernet ports so as well as wireless computers you can connect Ethernet equipped devices at the same time such as computers, networked printers and game consoles. The problem is that you then need to configure the Airport with "Distribute IP Addresses" switched off and you will then typically need to fiddle about with port forwarding in the router to get things like iChat AV to work properly. Also setting up WDS to use a second Airport to repeat the wireless signal becomes more difficult with this configuration as the Apple WDS system expects "Distribute IP addresses" to be switched on.

  • We got a new modem and i keep getting disconnected!

We moved to a new house and we still have the same ISP but we upgraded our internet to a faster connection. So the cable guy came, installed our cable and internet and we got a new modem. He connected our WRT54G Ver. 6 router to the new modem.
Our new internet connection is fast, at 10mbps, but the problem is it keeps disconnecting us. I don't know if the problem is the modem or the linksys router.
I don't know much about networking so please help =(

You can connect the computer only to the modem and check the connection is steady or not. If it is steady then try to upgrade the fimrware of the router .
Before doing the following steps, you have to connect the modem to the
router's Internet Port and the computer to the Ethernet Port Number 1.
Please access the setup page of the router by launching an Internet
Explorer and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter.
    When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as “admin "" all in lower cases and then
click on ok. Now click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on
the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' to select the
extracted/uncompressed .img or .bin file and click on "Upgrade"
After doing the firmware upgrade you have to reset this router again
    for 30 seconds.
    Reset the router
    1. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
    2. Then, unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for
    another 30 Seconds.
    3. Plug back the power back in, and keep holding down the reset button
    for 30 Seconds.
    4. Release the reset button.
Please access the setup page of the router by launching an Internet
Explorer and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter.
    When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as “admin "" all in lower cases and then
    click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “.
Click on the Save Settings button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
    - Click on clone your PC's MAC button and then click on the Save
