Lining up text in linking text frames

I've inherited a document design from an agency that my client sometimes uses - the client can't get their hands on the original files so I've recreated from a PDF. I can't replicate how they make text line up across a page through linking text frames.
The majority of their text frames have VertJustification set to Bottom, so I'm setting that as Default for my text frames. But when I put dummy text in to my frames, I get very bad alignment of lines - especially at the top - when there is a different number of paras in each frame.

Given their text set up - especially the 2mm space after each para - they must be doing some adjustment and balancing after the text is added. I'm just not sure how.
Any clues??

Assumption simply based on the fact that they seem to line up more often at the bottom through 80 pages of this stuff rather than at the top.
But I think you've hit the nail on the head for me. Setting my frames VertJust to 'Justify' helps me do replicate their style quite easily.
And agreed, I also think the visual distraction of lines not lining up across columns is worse than having columns line up at the bottom.

The correct term in Pages is Text Boxes, and true linking is not implemented in v5.2. You can Unite, Intersect, Subtract, and Exclude multiple Text Boxes via the Arrange panel. These attributes only appear when two or more Text Boxes are selected. Also, on the Arrange menu, you will need Object Placement set to Move with Text, and the Text Wrap set to None for more accurate positioning.
In the following example, there was initially a Text Box with overflowing text that was duplicated. With both Text Boxes selected and aligned, I could then use the Unite feature from the Arrange panel. This allowed the text to flow into the second box. Selecting text in one box and dragging upwards continues the text selection between both boxes. Hoefler italic applied in one box is applied to both. Appropriately placed, another trip to the Arrange panel to enable Text Wrap around and text fit adjustments.

Dynamic Text box with linking to frames

I have a problem. I've tried everything I can think of and what I have Googled, but nothing has helped. I have a scrolling dynamic text box and I need some words in that text box to link to frames, like buttons (Not a URL). Selection tool won't select swatches or link text frames?

My selection tool won't select swatch colours and most of the time it is very difficult to link text boxes.
Am I doing something wrong?

CS4 Linking Text Boxes Together in Anchored Objects?

Hi. Using InDesign CS4 I have a Anchored Object that I would like to link part of it to the next one in the text frame. Example: I have grouped together a text box, a box with a placed UPC from Illustrator and another text box stacked on top of each other, all lined up. I group this and place it in a text box so I can set these at different places along a 29" document. When I have overset text, in the top box for example, I see the + sign but can't grab it to try to link the text to the next text box in the Anchored or grouped object. All I can do it change the size of the box - even when holding down the command key on the Mac with the text too enabled. I am setting it up this way so all three boxes stay together when positioning on pages. I have multiple rows of these so it makes it easier to modify. If I take the grouped set out of the text box so it's by itself I can grab the overset text. I am trying to link text boxes so it's easier and faster to flow in text from another program. Thanks.

OK, I will try to get the whole page later. I want to keep what you see in the screen shot - one of the grouped objects - together as it goes across the page. So the 9232554 text and all bellow that would stay grouped together when I tab it over to line up to a certain spot on the page. This is placed in a text box that runs horizonal on the page, about 28" across. I also wanted to link the 9232554 box to the 9232729 box which is just a duplicate of the group of text and UPC code before it. But from what you say, and what I tried to do, I can't. Even when all the anchored object groups are in the same long text thread. I tried not grouping each section - the UPC code sandwiched by the text boxes, but could not place them in the long text box when not grouped togther.
I wanted to flow in the text to all 14 of these grouped or anchored objects, say all top boxes, in one 'paste' instead of doing each one at a time but keeping the 3 elements you see togther at all times.

Hi,
you have to get the TextModel associated with the textframe. Once you got that, ITextModel has an Insert()-method. You could also process kInsertTextCmdBoss - there are quite a few examples around. I believe WriteFishPrice also inserts text into a frame, just as an example. Good luck ...

well In Quark Express as as wrote earlier, that you can see other text frames highlighted immediately, after you select any of the text frame among the threaded text frames, say there are 5 text frames which are threaded together, even if I click on 2 nd or say 4th text frame, it shows me all the text frames highlighted which are threaded together, so If I am working in a catalog which has multiple pages, it's easy for me to see which text frames are threaded together, as if you make any text changes, say add or delete text in a text frame, the other text frames get affected by that. I mean text shifts accordingly, it's easy to track in Quark which text frames will get affected if I change something in a threaded frame.
Anyways, it seems this option is not available in In Design. That's fine. I am not in preview or Overprint previed mode.

CS4 Breaking linked text links

Hi,
In CS3 and before, simply double clicking on an out port of a text frame would break a link and remove the text from the downstream text frame. Same with the in port of the second text frame.
But in CS4 doing this does remove the text, for a moment, and then it suddenly reappears.
I have used all the usual modifier keys to no avail. Bug? Or is this a new feature designed to totally frustrate me?

Must be something in my configuration, but no idea what.
Just in case these are the steps I used:
1 On master pages create 2 frames and establish a thread by clicking on out port and then on frame.
2 On regular pages flow in text.
3 Double click on first frames out port.
This gives me a loaded cursor (unexpected) and the text disappears from frame two (expected)
4 within a second the text reappears and the cursor stays loaded.
5 The text in the second frame works as threaded text should flowing correctly when frame sizes are adjusted in the first frame.
6 When Show Text Threads is selected the thread image is no longer there after the double click.

CS6/Mac - Linked Text Boxes Spinning Beachball Issue

Issue:
When I have two Text Boxes Linked together and Im typing on the second box my curser flashes/ blinks from curser to the spinning beachball of death back and forth as im typing..
Anyone know how to stop this from happening.. Its very annoying and distracting while Im trying to type.
Steps to Recreate:
1. Create a new document in InDesign
2. Create two text boxes/ frames of any size, smaller (2" x 2") is better so you dont have to type a lot of text
3. Link the two text boxes/ frames
4. Start typing random filler text in the first text box until it starts overflowing into the second one..
5. Note that the curser does or doesnt start to flash/ blink from curser to beachball over and over as you type.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. Thank you for your help; it is appreciated. I suspected that, but am still disappointed. I am finding myself getting more and more disenchanted with Apple products in the past few years. I've been a faithful fan, user and promoter since the 1980s, but I am starting to seriously doubt their competency in the past few years with the Pages 5 version as well as what iOS7 continues to do to my iPhone (as my prime examples). Instead of enhancing my life and work, Apple is beginning to waste my time -- a lot of it! Perhaps it is time for a change.... I don't want to, but I am starting to look for other alternatives.

Is there a way to link text fields, so when you reach the end of one line it moves to the next?

I often use Acrobat Pro to create forms, whether it be from an existing document or from scratch, and this has always irritated me. I know you can create a text field and select the Multi-line option; however, this is not what I am looking to do. I have a form that has a Yes or No Radio Button, then below it says "If yes, please explain:" followed by 3 lines to respond. When I run it through the Form Creator, it places three text fields on the response lines - as it should. The first line is shorter because of the text, which is why I cannot use the Multi-line option. So is there a way to link these three text fields, so that when I reach the end of the first line it stops and automatically moves to the next?

These types of lines are a left-over from printed forms. There's no reason
to keep using them if your form is digital.
The best approach is to combine the fields to a single multiline field, and
get rid of the first line. Trying to link text fields together is very
tricky. I haven't yet to see it done properly.

According to the Adobe page above, I can add this code to the “head’ area of my html page and then all my links will not have visible lines, but I did that and the lines are still there. Any ideas why?
