Link 2 lists to filter data

Hi,
I am trying to develop a holiday request and approval system using SharePoint 2013. At the moment it comprises 2 lists: Employees consisting of Employee (Person or Group to Active Directory), Entitlement and Remaining Leave fields; and Requests consisting
of Employee (Person or Group to Active Directory), Manager(Person or Group to Active Directory), Start Date, End Date and No. Days fields. I have added the Employee List to the Requests page as a Web Part (see screenshot) and want to filter just the logged
on employee in the Employees list (bottom of screenshot).
I have seen something like this before, but don't know how it was done. Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tony

You can try by setting up a filter on the employee list view within the webpart as UserColumn as Me.
But remember that it has to be Person/Group column type for it to work.
Let me know if it helps.

    You could scrap this implementation and use a Collection class, then use Collections.sort. Or you could have your implementation implement the List interface and use Collections.sort. But more than likely you are supposed to do this for homework, so in that case I would try to implement the bubble sort and fix it until you don't get any errors. There are other sort routines you could use, but they are all more complicated than the bubble sort, so you will likely get many errors doing that too.
    Good luck

  • Changing data in a linked list object.

    hi,
    i'm still pretty new to java, so bear with me if i am making stupid mistakes, heh.
    i'm having trouble with changing data in an object stored in a singly-linked list. i've created a class that will store polynomials in sorted order (descending) in a singly-linked list. each linked list is one polynomial, and each node references to a polynomial object that stores two ints: the coefficient and the exponent of that term.
    i'm having trouble when it comes to 'collecting like terms,' though. here's a rough skeleton of my code:
    public class Polynomial
    private LinkedList polynoList;
    private LinkedListItr Itr;
    private int coeff;
    private int exponent;
    public Polynomial()
    zeroPolynomial();
    } // this constructor sets up an empty linked list
    public Polynomial( int c, int e )
    coeff = c;
    exponent = e;
    } // this creates a Polynomial object storing the two ints
    public void zeroPolynomial()
    polynoList = new LinkedList();
    theItr = polynoList.zeroth();
    } // this method creates the empty linked list and sets the
    //iterator on the zeroth node.
    //various other methods are here, not relevant to my post
    //this next method is the one i am having trouble with.
    //it takes two ints as parameters, the coefficient
    //and the exponent.
    public void insertTerm( int c, int e )
    //...i have a few if/then statements here
    //so that the terms can be inserted in descending order.
    LinkedListItr tester = polynoList.first();
    //the 'tester' iterator is set on the first node
    //this following if statement retrieves the exponent
    //in the current node by casting the information
    //retrieved from the LinkedList retrieve() method
    //into Polynomial, then compares it to the current
    //exponent. if they are equal, i want to add the
    //coefficients.
    if( e == ((Polynomial)tester.retrieve()).getExp() )
    this.coeff = ((Polynomial)tester.retrieve()).getCoeff() + c;
    //a main method goes here wherein the user can insert
    //terms, print the polynomial, etc.
    }//end Polynomial class
    can anyone help me out? the code i'm using compiles correctly, but it does not change the value of the current coeff variable as i'd like to think it should. any input would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks!

    hey,
    thanks for the reply...
    i am sure that ((Polynomial)tester.retrieve()).getExp() will return an int equal to 'e.' i tried this:
    System.out.println("e="+e);
    System.out.println((Polynomial)tester.retrieve()).getExp());
    if( e == ((Polynomial)tester.retrieve()).getExp() ){
    this.coeff = ((Polynomial)tester.retrieve()).getCoeff() + c;
    System.out.println( "this.coeff = " + this.coeff );
    with that, the output showed that e and the getExp() output were the same. it also showed (as output) that this.coeff did change in value, but when i tried this:
    System.out.println( ((Polynomial)tester.retrieve()).getCoeff() )
    to check if the value changed within the object, it didn't. this.coeff changed, but the actual coeff variable in the object didn't.
    any ideas?

  • How to add different data types in Linked list?

    The basic idea is that I want to implement a linked list like the one which we generally implement in C. I need to store different data types in a single node. Is it possible to implement like this or I have to implement a linked list for each different data type?

    I have an application program in which there is a form. In this form there are different text fields in which data is to be inserted by the user. These data's will be inserted into the database. I want to hit the database only once. So I need to store these data in a data structure before I insert into the database. I think it will be easy for me to handle the data in a linked list if I can have different data types in a single node.
    Moreover, I think u're not getting my question. This pic will help u.
    http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/4500/sampler.jpg
    I'm not sure about that the code which u have written will have different data types in single node. I have to try that.
    And of course if anyone has any better idea than me, it will be very helpful.

  • Linked List, Stacks and Other Data Structures in Objective-C 2.0

    I've checked a little throughout documentation that Apple provides for the different frameworks in order to determine if there were ready-made classes for data structures such as linked lists, stacks and so forth but there don't appear to be any available? Is this correct?

    NSArray and NSDictionary are the multi-purpose built-in aggregate types. If you need something else then you can use STL or roll your own.

  • Values of data  in a linked-list

    hello.
    i declare a small linked list of elemets (about 10), everything is fine and dandy but i need to assign an int value to every one of those elements as a counter whenever a certain action is performed on the element in the list.
    LinkedList mylist = new Linkedlist();
    int value=0;
    //i need to assign a unique int value to every element in the list as a counter to keep track of how many times [whatever element] is accessed, moved around, ect.
    is this possible?

    If your linked list contains a specific type of object, add a counter to it. This may mean extending whatever the class the element is.
    If you want to do theis generically, you are probably going to have to extend LinkedList and inside that class encapsulate another collection (maybe a linked list). The encapsulated collection will contain the set of counters. You will have to override all of LinkedLists methods so that you can maintain the counters.

  • How create animated power view reports using sharepoint list as a data source in sharepoint 2010?

    Hi All,
    I got a client requirement to create reports using SharePoint List as data source. The report should show reflection depends on values changed (I mean animation).
    I have heard about the power view/power pivot which does this kind of animations in reports.
    Can someone please guide me on creating reports which shows animations
    In power view/power pivot using SharePoint List as data source in SharePoint 2010.
    Thanks in advance.
    MercuryMan

    Hi MercuryMan,
    Yes, Power View, a feature of SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 or SharePoint 2013 Enterprise Edition, is an interactive data exploration, visualization, and presentation experience.
    It provides multiple views featuring tiles, slicers, a chart filter, and a number of visualizations, including cards, small multiples, and a bubble chart. So, we can use Power View to do intuitive ad-hoc reporting for business users such as data analysts, business
    decision makers, and information workers.
    Currently, Power View report only supports two types of data models: PowerPivot Worksheet, and data models based on Analysis Services Tabular Model or Multidimensional Cube.
    In your scenario, you can create PowerPivot worksheets using SharePoint List as data source, deploy the PowerPivot worksheet to a SharePoint Library or PowerPivot Gallery, and then generate Power View reports based on the PowerPivot worksheets on the SharePoint
    site.
    To use SharePoint List as data source in Excel PowerPivot, you can refer to the following resource:

  • Sharepoint list dataheet view error "Cannot connect to the server at this time. You can continue working with this list, but some data may not be available"

    I have a List which is having around 14000 items in it.while opening that list in datasheet view it is giving error .
    Below is a summary of the issue:
    After selecting datasheet view beow error occurs:
        "Cannot connect to the server at this time.  You can continue working with this list, but some data may not be available."
        "Unable to retrieve all data."
        The item counts displays say 100 out of 14000 items.
    Exporting List to excel is giving only 2000 records out of 14000 records.
    Other Observations   -
    This is happening to only one list on the site .There are other lists in the site whose no. of records is equal to 8000 to 9000.They are working absolutely fine without any error.
    Also, If I am saving this list as a template and creating another list with it ,then it is working absolutely fine with 14000 records,so the issue does not seem to be related with no. of records as the template list is working fine.
    I have checked the Alternate access mapping setting ,its fine.
    It should not be related to lookup,datefield or any other column as the list created from it template is working fine with all these columns.
    I checked below links also ,but doesn't seem to work in my case.

    I am sharing my finding.
    1. First install the
    KB2552989 (Hopefully you might have already installed it. The KB detetcts it and informs the user.)
    2. Then update registry by adding new key for data fetch timeout as mentioned inKB2553007
    These two steps resolved the issue in our environment. Hope it might help others as well.

  • How to print the contents of doubly-Linked List

    Hi
    I have a DLList consists of header , trailer and 10 linked nodes in between
    Is there a simple way to print the contents ie "the elements"
    of the list
    thanks

    In general you should write an iterator for every linked data structure for fast traversal. I'm guessing you're writing your own DLL for an assignment because one normally uses the LinkedList structure that is included in the api. Anyway, here is an example of how the iterator is implemented for a double linked list:

  • List view - filter with parameters

    Hi,
    I need to define a list view to filter data with parameters.
    I saw how to do it with the SPD in another post
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/92271aa4-6582-4ea5-a10f-deaf02d2b62c/filtering-the-list-view-by-passing-date-parameters-using-sharepoint-desginer-2010?forum=sharepointcustomizationprevious
    But  need to do it in visual Studio (via definitins or Object Model).
    How can I do that in Visual Studio?
    Help is really appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    DD

    Hi,
    According to your description, you might want to create a list definition with the filter value from query string from URL. Then when you create a list instance with this list
    definition, you will be able to filter the list view page by appending parameters to the URL in the address bar.
    You can achieve this through modifying the Schema.xml file in the list definition project in Visual Studio like this:
    How to create custom list definition
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/gg276355(v=office.14).aspx
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/412429/SharePoint-Create-List-Definition-and-Instanc
    CAML Query Schema
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ms467521(v=office.15).aspx
    Then we can filter the list with such an URL:
    http://sp/Lists/List1/AllItems.aspx?Param1=2014-08-24&Param2=2014-08-28

    1) When you post code, please use[code] and [/code] tags as described in Formatting tips on the message entry page. It makes it much easier to read.
    2) Don't just post a huge pile of code and ask, "How do I make this work?" Ask a specific question, and post just enough code to demonstrate the problem you're having.
    3) Don't just write a huge pile of code and then test it. Write a tiny piece, test it. Then write the piece that will work with or use the first piece. Test that by itself--without the first piece. Then put the two together and test that. Only move on to the next step after the current step produces the correct results. Continue this process until you have a complete, working program.
