Link error in Workshop 6u2 with lib built by Studio 9

I have a shared library built with Sun Studio 9.
I'm trying to use it in an application that I build using Sun
Workshop 6 update 2.
This gives me a link error:
Undefined symbol first referenced in file
__rwstd::__null_string_ref_rep<char,std::char_traits<char>,
std::allocator<char>,__rwstd::__string_ref_rep<std::allocator<char>
>>::__null_string_ref_rep()
/home/me/lib/libFoo.so
std::basic_string<char,std::char_traits<char>,std::allocator<char>>::~basic_string()
/home/me/lib/libFoo.so
The lib is built using:
JAVA_INCLUDE = -I${JAVA_HOME}/include -I${JAVA_HOME}/include/solaris
JAVA_LIBS = -L${JAVA_HOME}/jre/lib/sparc -L${JAVA_HOME}/jre/lib/sparc/client
CXX = g++
CXXFLAGS = -g -w -fPIC -I./include ${JAVA_INCLUDE}
LDFLAGS = -shared ${JAVA_LIBS} -ljava -ljvm
$(CXX) ${LDFLAGS} ${LIBS} -o ../$@ ${OBJS}
Any ideas what could be wrong?
Thanks in advance,
/Mikael

You can use a binary created by an older compiler in a program built with a newer compiler. We take care not to invalidiate old binary interfaces in new compilers.
You cannot use a binary created by a newer compiler in a program built with an older compiler. The newer compiler will in general use features from headers or system libraries that are unknown to the older compiler.
If you have a set of binaries created by different compiler versions, you must build the final program using a compiler at least as new as the newest compiler that was used.
Similar rules apply to verions of Solaris where the binaries are built. If you build a binary on an older Solaris version, you can use it on a newer Solaris version -- but not the reverse.

  • Linker error: can't open "ini.lib"

    Hi,
    I've just installed the Evaluation copy of the Measurement Studio Tools for Visual C++ and whenever I try to run an example or a program that I create I get a linker error referencing ini.lib? I can find ini.lib in 2 folders both descending from VXIpnp, but I've also called the hotline and I was told I need the INI driver. Doesn't that come with the evaluation CD or do I need to manually download it from your website and then install it myself?
    Alex

    You need to add the path of the ini.lib to the VC++ environment. The installer should have done this for you, but it must not have. Go to Tools->Options and under the directories tab, add a Library files entry that points to the ini.lib directory.

  • Linking Error Compiling OCI Demos with Visual C++

    First let me say that I am new to using Visual C++. But my problem is that I am getting a Linking Error when compiling cdemo81.c. The error I get is as follows:
    Linking ...
    cdemo81.obj: error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _OCITransCommit
    cdemo81.obj: error LNK2001: ...
    Debug/cdemo81.exe: fatal error LNK 1120: 14 unresolved externals
    Error executing link.exe
    I think that the problem is that I am not linking in the OCI executable files correctly. So if someone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Do you link oci.lib? Thats the only lib file you need actially.
    If you are using MS VC++, you can add lib path from Tools>Options>Directories.Choose "Library files" from "Show directories for" dropdown list, adn then add you ora.lib path (usually $ORAHOME\oci\lib\).
    You also need to add oci.lib in the project settings in the Object/library modules filed of Link tab. Do not forget to add oci.lib for both Debug end Release settings.
    Cheers,
    Tolkun.

  • Linker error using extern with 2 libs

    Hi,
      I have written two libraries, both libraries need to share access to a variable, GblVal. So in one lib, when GblVal is changed, the other lib should also see this change.
    I have tried to achieve this through extern in the following setup:
    lib1:
    lib1.c:
    int GblSum;
    void Do(){
    GblSum=1;
    lib1.h:
    extern int GblSum;
    lib2.c:
    #include "lib1.h"
    void check(){
    printf("%d",GblSum);
    finally I have a main process that has both compiled libs
    main.c:
    Do();
    check();
    obviously my code doesn't actually do the above, but this is just the gist of what I'm trying to do. I'm fairly certain that I am setting my extern variable up right, however I can't compile lib2 due to:
    Undefined symbol "_GblNum" referenced in lib2.c
     what am I doing wrong? I have suspicions that this is a linker error but I'm not really sure how to fix it.
    thanks

    Static libraries (usual file extension .lib) are simply collections of compiled object files. To use functions and data contained in a static library in an application, the library must be specified as one of the input files to the application. At link time, the linker searches the library to resolve unsatisfied function and data references and extracts the object modules required to satisfy them.
    Dynamic Link Libraries (usual file extension .dll) are compiled and linked code modules (that is, they contain their own run-time support) that expose the addresses of particular functions (and, less often, data items) contained within the module. If an application uses functions from a dynamic link library, the DLL is also loaded when the application is run and the function/data addresses made known to the application. DLLs are most often used to share common code between applications, but because they are self-contained they are also a common way of building applications using different technologies (e.g. a CVI application can use a DLL built using Delphi or VC++).
    Normally, a DLL is associated with an import library which is linked in with the calling application. This import library resolves references to functions and data in the DLL used by the calling application by 'telling' the application which DLL the functions are in and how to find them in that DLL. Applications can also explicitly load DLLs at run-time if required.

    -features=rtti,namespace,bool,localfor,mutable -zmuldefs
    I use -features as I also link with some libraries that use features
    of C++ not available in the 4.2 compiler. However the link
    errors are from the library that is built with the 4.2 compiler.
    Everything compiled and linked fine with Forte 6.0 Update 1.
    This is something new with the update 2 compiler.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi There,
    I see that youare using the compiler flag -compat
    with no value assigned.
    This means it defaults 5.0C++ compiler comatibilty mode.
    Since you mentioned in your email that you get the error message from the library built with 4.2 C++
    compiler, try -compat=4 flag.

  • Linker error with WS6U2 in compat=4 mode

    We have just upgraded from WS6U1 to WS6U2 on
    Solaris 2.8. I am getting a linker error when
    linking against libraries built with the 4.2 C++
    compiler. Everything works fine with WS6U1 compiler.
    The linker error is related to __rtaccess.
    Here is the test case:
    // t.h
    class class42 {
    public:
    virtual int getId();
    // t42.cc
    #include "t.h"
    int
    class42::getId()
    return 33;
    Build the library for t42.cc using 4.2 version of C++
    compiler as follows:
    /opt/SUNWspro/bin/CC -c -I. t42.cc
    /opt/SUNWspro/bin/CC -xar -o libt42.a t42.o
    // t62.cc
    #include "t.h"
    class class6u2 : public class42
    main()
    class42 *nt1 = new class6u2;
    class6u2 d1 = (class6u2 )(nt1);
    Build the above with WS6U2 compiler as follows:
    /opt/SUNWspro/bin/CC -compat=4 -features=rtti -c -I.
    t62.cc
    /opt/SUNWspro/bin/CC -compat=4 -features=rtti -o t62
    -I. t62.o -L. -lt42
    In my real case, I have a library built with 4.2 C++
    compiler. I do not have the souce code for it and
    cannot compile it with rtti. Also, I cannot avoid
    using rtti when compiling my code with WS6U2.
    I am not sure why the WS6U2 tools are looking for
    dynamic cast information in my test case when I am
    not using dynamic_cast or typeid. As I said above,
    the test case works fine with the WS6U1 version of
    compiler.
    Comparision of symbol table information for t62.o
    generated with WS6U1 and WS6U2 shows the following
    difference:
    ts62.o compiled with WS6U1:
    ... NOTY |WEAK |0 |UNDEF |__0FK__rtaccessR6Hclass42
    ts62.o compiled with WS6U2:
    ... NOTY |GLOB |0 |UNDEF |__0FK__rtaccessR6Hclass42
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank You.

    When you compile with -instances=explicit, no template instances will be generated other than the ones you explicitly ask for.
    This code requires instantiation of some rw_slist members that are not in the librwtools library, and the -instances=explicit option prevents them from being created implicitly.
    First, you need to add an explicit instantiation directive for the missing rw_slist destructor. When you do that, you will find other functions, some from the C++ standard library, that need explicit instantiation.
    Using any of the non-default template compilation models usually requires considerable trial and error to generate all of the needed instances without duplicating any of them.
    For more discussion of the -instances=xxx options and their tradeoffs, please see the C++ User's Guide chapters on using templates.

  • Link errors when building with librfc.a from RFCSDK 7.00 for z/OS 32 bit

    There is a disparity between the documentation and the contents of the RFCSDK for z/OS 32 bit.
    The documentation included with the SDK is for older versions of the RFCSDK and discusses the librfc dll and librfc.x sidedeck file. However, the new SDK no longer includes the rfclib dll and rfclib.x sidedeck file. Instead, it includes the librfc.a library file.
    Simply compiling and linking with librfc.a is not enough. Numerous link errors occur. It appears that an SAP specific define must be required in order to properly decorate rfc functions. Below is an excerpt of the link errors I am receiving.
    Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    This is not an iChat port and it messes up where iChat then says to send the Video and Audio data.
    The log from the other end implies the ports are not even open.

    Turn off Private Browsing.
    Tap "Private" on Safari Screen to disable Private Browsing. When top of screen is white, Private Browsing is off.

    No I didn't even read through your post, to long.
    You said that "No matter what program I try to install, as soon as the installer opens it crashes". Were you talking about the install for this/these 3D programs or ANY program? As it is worded it sounded like ANY program. That tells me there is a problem with your Mac, software or hardware.
    Now you say others install programs, which is it. Programs other then the 3D ones install or no programs install?
    Could simply be your Mac is to old to run these programs and the installer knows that. You never said what model or year Mac it is.

    Hello, I am using tesseract api in my app, which run perfectly on simulator but on test devise (real devise) it is showing an error i.e "apple mach -o linker error linker command failed with exit code 1", please any body help me to solve the problem

    if you can't compile the webutil.pll in your forms developer you need to set the forms_builder_classpath in you windows registry. You have to add the frmwebutil.jar,jacob.jar to the registry key. The configuration files you mention are for running the forms.

  • Normally if anyone buys an apple product (mac) , it comes with a built-in-apps that should be considered ( built in ) , Then why when the mac faces a mistake or an error that forces it to format , these apps don't show up ? etc : iMovie , garageband

    normally if anyone buys an apple product with a specific model (mac) , it comes with a built-in-apps that should be considered ( built in ) , Then why when the mac faces a mistake or an error that forces it to format , these apps don't show up ? etc : iMovie , garageband ...
    considered it should be '' BUILT IN APPS '' ??
    So does it really make sense that i should buy these apps again after i already payed an extra amount of money in the first place to get a model that includes them ??
    after formatting my mac these apps should be there like its a whole new device that i opened !!!
    I hope anyone with any useful information can share his thoughts or help with further steps .

  • Is it possible to statically link the MFC lib with a Measurement Studio App?

    I get the following link warnings, and the app jumps off to code-never-never-land (0xFFFE...)when it exits.
    Linking...
    LINK : warning LNK4098: defaultlib "nafxcwd.lib" conflicts with use of other libs; use /NODEFAULTLIB:library
    LINK : warning LNK4049: locally defined symbol "__setmbcp" imported

    Good question. No, the current version only supports dynamic linking to MFC.
