Linking a button in flash to a dreamweaver site

I am having some trouble linking a button in my flash movie to a separate dreamweaver site. The flash movie will be placed in
the homepage of a website and i want to be able to click a button in it to go to a separate page. the code i am trying is :
RF1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,clickHandler);
function clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void{
navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://Bleachers_Top.html"));
where RF1 is my button and my target page is"Bleachers_Top.html"
I am pretty sure the last part is wrong but I cant seem to find any help on how to do it.
I get this error when i try it, does this mean it is a flash player setup error in that case does anyone know another way to do this because I don't want people to have to alter their Flash security options when they view it.
Thanks in advance
Andrew Whited

The url you show is not a valid address as far as I can tell.  If you are going to use the http://, then you also need to specify the domain... http://www.somesite.com/Bleachers_Top.html
If that web page is in the same folder as the page your Flash file will be in then you can just use the web page name without the http:// portion.

  • Need help: enter flash file in Dreamweaver site with dark background

    Hi,
    I've entered a SWF in a dreamweaver site with a dark blue
    background. When you view the site in a browser there is a white
    square (the size of the flash file) that flashes up for a second
    before the file starts loading. This is rather ugly and I was
    wondering if anyone knew how to avoid this white square from
    flashing up.
    I already tried making the table background dark blue and
    adding a dark blue square as a background image, but that has not
    made any difference.
    If you'd like to see what it does, this is a link to one of

    Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give me!

    Hi Horus,
    Thank you for getting back to me. I found it, and tried it.
    But still does not seem to make a difference. This is what the code
    in dreamweaver now looks like:

    Did I enter it correctly? (I also tried it as <param

  • Attaching links to buttons exported into dreamweaver CS3 ?

    Hi everyone,
    I want to create five seperate buttons in Fireworks CS3 and then export them over to Dreamweaver CS3.
    Does the links for the buttons have to be attached in Fireworks first, or can I create the buttons export them into my Dreamweaver site and then attach the links?
    The reason I'm asking is because the links in question are external links for five other sites and social network sites, and I do not have the URL's yet. However I would like to get started.
    Thanks in advance.

    You are best to create the buttons in Fireworks, export them to an images folder in Dreamweaver, then attach the links that way.
    Before you begin work, ensure that you define a site and have all your working files inside of one folder to which the site definition points to,
    (Just mentioning this very important step in case you are new to using Dreamweaver  :-)
    Define a site:

    Do not ever export any html written by a graphics program  :-)

  • Flash menu in DW, how do I link the buttons?

    Hi there!
    I have a problem, i'm creating a site in dreamweaver with a
    lot of flash objects. For examlpe I'm making a flash menu, wich is
    the hole problem! I'm importing the flash file to the left frame in
    dreamweaver and i'm trying to link the buttons (on the menu) to ex.
    "home" or "about me", though it doesn't work! I can't link the
    buttons because they're in this flash object. I know i'm doing it
    wrong with trying to link the buttons on the flash object but I
    don't know what else to do. And the thing is that i don't wanna use
    the buttons already existing in DW, i've made my own ones. The
    buttons are moving so there is one more problem, they're coming in
    from the right side (in the left frame) and bounces once, and then
    they stop. And that's when I wan't them clickable. So how do I make
    the buttons linking to the pages??
    Would really appreciate an awnser!
    Thanks !

    Flash links are made in Flash, not DW.
    I trust these links are not important, as search engines
    can't see them

    For example, I want an image of a round green button to replace the default retangle button in Flash Builder 4.

    You could also use the mx:Image control and just add a click event handler:
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"

    you probably have to install the Dreamweaver update so that
    you're on
    version 8.0.2. just search Adobe.com for Dreamweaver update
    and you
    should be able to find it pretty quickly.

  • Bringing Flash functionality into Dreamweaver

    I created a navigation bar in Flash CS3 that expands to the
    stage width, but when I import the swf int Dreamweaver CS3 the bar
    displays at its fixed size and does not expand to fit the stage
    width for large screens,
    This is the Actionscript Flash code for the nav bar.
    Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
    Stage.align = "TL";
    bar._width = Stage.width;
    dots2._x = Stage.width-200;
    menu_bar._x = (Stage.width/2);
    symmlog._x = (Stage.width/2);
    basebar._x = (Stage.width/2);
    stageListener = new Object ();
    stageListener.onResize = function(){
    Stage.align = "TL";
    bar._width = Stage.width;
    dots2._x = Stage.width-200;
    menu_bar._x = (Stage.width/2);
    symmlog._x = (Stage.width/2);
    basebar._x = (Stage.width/2);
    Stage.addListener( stageListener );
    When testing movie or playing it in Flash Player the bar
    itself stretches to fill stage width at any screen size, the
    buttons and logo center in the middle of the bar at any size. When
    I add the swf file to Dreamweaver, the size of the nav bar does not
    stretch to fill the stage width. Any suggestions

    Just to make sure -
    If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    Especially
    consider those people who are browsing from a corporate
    internet where Flash
    is not allowed by the IT staff.
    2. Search engines may not parse Flash links - your site will
    not be
    spidered unless you have redundant HTML links
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
    a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
    You will have
    to remake those buttons.
    It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons - and for
    these reasons,
    Adobe has removed Flash buttons and Flash text from CS4.
    Sorry - I can't otherwise help you.

  • Help with Re-Linking Navigation Buttons

    I have Adobe Flash CS3 Pro.
    I have a navigation header flash file that came with my website template and I am having difficulty making sense of the actionscript. It has a logo section with effects, 5 main nav buttons that move, and two extra link buttons above the navigation bar. Let’s focus on just the Navigation buttons for now. Here is what I have gathered. I have multiple text buttons on one movieclip, and I have successfully edited the text for each button. If I look at the actionscript in the top layer of this movieclip I see:
    “gotoAndStop(parent._parent.num);”
    I also have a separate movieclip symbol (with effects) with 5 buttons layers listed in the actionscript with the following actionscript tied to each button from numbers 1 through 5:
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=1;
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=2;
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=3;
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=4;
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=5;
    On the top layer of these 5 buttons I have the following actionscript:
    stop();
    this["item"+_root.button].gotoAndPlay("s1");
    _root.link = _root.button;
    I also have a separate button symbol with the following actionscript:
    on (rollOver) {
                if (_root.link<>1) {
                            menu.item1.gotoAndPlay("s1");
    on (releaseOutside, rollOut) {
                if (_root.link<>1) {
                            menu.item1.gotoAndPlay("s2");
    on (release) {
                if (_root.link<>1) {
                            _root.menu["item"+_root.link].gotoAndPlay("s2");
                            _root.link = 1;
                            getURL("index.html");
    Now my website template came with 5 html pages that my flash navigation buttons correspond to: (index.html, index-1.html, index-2.html, index-3.html, index-4.html, index-5.html). My problem is that I have created new pages (index.html, about.html, featured.html, projects.html, contact.html). I would like each of the 5 buttons to correspond to these pages, not the existing standard “index-n.html” pages.
    Also, this is probably not relevant, but each html page has something to this affect so I can see how they correspond to each button.
    <script type="text/javascript">
              var fo = new FlashObject("flash/menu_vf8.swf?button=2", "head", "100%", "144", "7", "");
              fo.addParam("quality", "high");
                        fo.addParam("wmode", "transparent");
                            fo.addParam("scale", "noscale");
              fo.write("head");
            </script>
    I guess my real question is: What actionscript do I need to update or remove for the nav button LINKS to work with my new html pages rather than the standard 5 index-n.html pages that it automatically wants to link to?
    When I try and add a “getURL” command to each of the 5 buttons and test preview the movie, the links work, but it messes up the effects of the movieclip. In other words, the buttons don’t move, they are motionless, however the links work. If I added this command to each button in some way, what actionscript would I need to remove so there weren’t any complications? I need some expert help here for it would be much appreciated. I am a novice with Flash script and its killing me that I can’t figure it out. I asked for help from the template support and all they came back with was the following message and it wasn’t helpful:
    You need to duplicate each button you are editing - it is very important.
    2) Update the scripting to look similar way:
    on (release) {
    if (_root.link<>num) {
    _parent["item"+_root.link].gotoAndPlay("s2");
    _root.link = num;
    if (num == 1) {
    getURL("index.html");
    } else {
    getURL("index-"+Number(num-1)+".html");
    Update it to:
    on (release) {
    getURL("http://www.google.com");
    Also, I read through the following discussion, which was helpful to a degree, but it still didn’t answer my questions about getting the links to work.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3614092#3614092

    First of all, thank you for showing interest and helping out in my dilemma here. I wish I understood your meaning behind “on” because with my luck there is probably some hidden way of placing script on an object that I don’t understand or haven’t discovered yet.
    This is what I know:
    I have multiple text buttons on one movieclip entitled “textbutton1” (see previous picture), and I have successfully edited the text for each button and created two extra frames/buttons to make 7 total. If I look at the actionscript in the top layer of this movieclip I see:
    “gotoAndStop(parent._parent.num);”
    But there is no action on each individual frame (all 7 of them) on that layer.
    Like I mentioned before I have a separate movieclip symbol (entitled “menu effect”) with 7 button movieclip layers listed in the actionscript with the following actionscript on each layer.
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=1;
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=2;
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=3;
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=4;
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=5;
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=6;
    onClipEvent (load) {
                num=7;
    On the top layer (layer 4 frame 25) of these 5 buttons I have the following actionscript:
    stop();
    this["item"+_root.button].gotoAndPlay("s1");
    _root.link = _root.button;
    I can upload another particular image of the movieclip/actionscript if it would be helpful. Let me know.

  • Linking menu buttons to pages for an Android app

    Hi all. Ok im a bit of a rookie when it comes to flash but here is my dilema. I want to link a button on my main page, to another page with info on it.
    For example: my main page has the buttons" PS3"... "Xbox 360"...."P.C" I want each of these buttons to link to an alphabetical list, ie: A-Z. And id like to be able to do this without the need for an internet connection. I have tried googling it but i could not find an answer to this. If anyone has any suggestions it would be great.

    You'll need to be sure to include stop() commands in each scene.  I recommend you just get away from using scenes at all... they are problematic when you try to mox them with navigation.  Just place your pages in different frames of the same timelines or just have them as movieclips that you control them being shown (or a little of both).
    AS far as the flickering from scene to scene goes, that's most often an indication that you have coding errors.  Do you get any kind of coding error messages?
    This is a weak spot for me because I have not developed apps for mobile devices.  Because support for developing apps is a recent feature of Flash, I think that you can't use AS2 to do that.  The on(release) code you say you are using is AS2.  I have to believe that you need to use AS3 to be programming for an app, though I might be entirely wrong in thinking that.

  • Flash animation into dreamweaver

    hey everyone, i'm new at both flash and dreamweaver and currently have a project combining the two together and i really cant work it out (i'm even using html instead of css haha) :/
    Anyway, what i want to do is have a zipper (as in a zipper on ones clothes) on my main page and when someone puts their mouse over the zip, it zips down and reveals the text for that page.
    I have gone into photoshop and started editing a zipper at different stages of being pulled down, but am stuck as to how i'd
    a) link it together on flash/what type of file to save it as?
    b) put the actual code into dreamweaver
    c) have it actually working functionally to reveal my text underneath.
    thanks in advance for any help, i'd be very appreciative of anyone who could give me some advice

    You'll probably need to spend time learning how to create things in Flash--maybe try lynda.com.  Flash can be used for the animation and mouse interaction revealing text.  Once you are able to create the animation in Flash, you can have Flash publish both the swf file, which is what goes into the web page, and an html file.  You can copy the code from the Flash html file into the Dreamweaver file wherever you intend the Flash file to be inserted.
