Linking from outside of Captivate

The User Education team at our office uses Captivate for its training videos, and the question has come up about using absolute links from an HTML page to target and play a specific slide or frame of a Captivate movie. I realize this may be a simple question that's already been answered by the community, but I didn't have any luck searching for the topic within the forums.

If you are using Captivate 4 it can be done through JavaScript and an advanced action. Not sure if this approach works in Captivate 5 but here it can be done by using a custom built widget and passing the slide number to the Captivate project / Widget using either Flash Vars or URL vars.
It's not fail proof though since you can run into problems with actually accessing a slide that is not loaded yet.

Links from outside apps like Mail will not trigger FireFox... but work in Safari

When I click a link in another program, like Apple Mail, it opens (or activates) Firefox.... but it does not "trigger" the link. If I copy the link, and past it into the Firefox URL bar, of course, it will work....
If I switch the preferred browser to Safari.... the same links works fine.
I've never seen this behavior before with a browser....

ITunes U links from inside Blackboard

We are interested in adding links to ITunes U from individual courses in Blackboard. My main concern is that I haven't figured out how to prevent users from accessing the link from outside BB by simply cutting and pasting the link.
Does anyone know how to add some level of security such that the link can only be accessed if they are clicking on it in BB?

Our solution was to create a Building Block for Blackboard that does all the authentication and authorization for our iTunes U site.
Basically the module just logs the user into BB (if they aren't already), creates a set of iTU credentials based on the courses the user is enrolled in, and sends the browser a redirect to the requested iTU page. On the iTU side, we match up the identifiers of the iTU courses with the course id's in BB and set up credentials that correspond to the various role's in Blackboard. At that point, everything falls into place. You'll have student access to an iTU course if and only if you are a student in the corresponding BB course (likewise for instructors).

Firefox 6.0.2 is no longer opening links from other programs even with all extensions disabled

Firefox updated to 6.0.2 last night and now it will not open any links from outside programs. When you click the hyperlink, the window flashes but Firefox does not respond. I have disabled all extensions, it did not affect the issues.
Also with this update, I am unable to use Synergy, Firefox locks the cursor to one computer and will not let it move to another.

I am having the same problem with Firefox version 8.0.1. I checked addons and they are up to date. When I make Chrome my default browser hyperlinks work fine to Chrome.

I've just gotten a chance to check out these responses. About
the Flash - no can do. Don't have it. And about breaking the file
apart, that would get messy because I have several files already.
OK. At least I know my options are limited to linking to page 1
from outside, so I'll have to be creative.

Any way to link to a specific message from outside Mail?

I am putting together a fairly basic customer enquiry database using Mac OS X Mail and an external database. The system will keep in the database a list of specific email messages associated with a particular customer, and should allow these messages to be brought up within Mail by clicking on a link in the database client.
However, Mail doesn't seem to offer any way of linking to a specific message within its database from outside Mail.
I imagined I would be able to do this instead by using the Message-Id: headers from incoming emails, and then getting Mail to do a search on these headers. However, putting a Message-Id into Mail's search field also fails.. it appears Mail doesn't index this header.
Can anyone help or offer a different solution to linking to a message inside Mail from an external app?

I'm not entirely sure I understand what you want to do, but if you are trying to link received emails to an external database, you can do so with Applescript, assuming your database app supports it.
AppleScript support in Mail offers the following message properties (copied from the "Message" suite in Mail's Applescript dictionary):
id (integer, r/o) : The unique identifier of the message.
all headers (string, r/o) : All the headers of the message
background color (blue/gray/green/none/orange/other/purple/red/yellow) : The background color of the message
mailbox (mailbox) : The mailbox in which this message is filed
content (string) : Contents of an email message
date received (date, r/o) : The date a message was received
date sent (date, r/o) : The date a message was sent
deleted status (boolean) : Indicates whether the message is deleted or not
flagged status (boolean) : Indicates whether the message is flagged or not
junk mail status (boolean) : Indicates whether the message has been marked junk or evaluated to be junk by the junk mail filter.
read status (boolean) : Indicates whether the message is read or not
message id (string, r/o) : The unique message ID string
source (string, r/o) : Raw source of the message
reply to (string) : The address that replies should be sent to
message size (integer) : The size (in bytes) of a message
sender (string) : The sender of the message
subject (string) : The subject of the message
was forwarded (boolean) : Indicates whether the message was forwarded or not
was redirected (boolean) : Indicates whether the message was redirected or not
was replied to (boolean) : Indicates whether the message was replied to or not
As you can see, this gives you access to just about any message property you could need for the database. You wouldn't need to tell Mail to search for the message; you could refer to it directly by its ID (or message id string) in its mailbox.
I have done something similar using an older version of Filemaker Pro (v6). I store 'calculated' scripts in the database along the lines of this pseudo-code:
Tell app "Mail" to open message {ID field} of mailbox {mailbox field} of account {related:account field}
... and have Filemaker execute them via a button when I need to open the record's message in Mail. This works very well for my purposes, which may be different from yours. (Note that the pseudo-code won't work as written; it is meant only to convey the idea involved.)

ZBf is the feature on Cisco routers and ASA though concepts are little same but works differently. However it is important that you can be more granular with the protocol (layer 7) inspection only. Like on ASA if you will try to restrict .exe file from a p2p application that won't be possible, But on router you have some application for p2p in NBAR and you can use it file filtering. Please check configuartion example for both devices.

"Create links from URLs" preference no longer working in sticky notes

I work with reading other people's sticky notes in Adobe Acrobat X Pro (now version 10.1.1). When they wrote URLs in the sticky notes it used to recognize them as links; now they're just plain text. My Preferences > General > "Create links from URLs" option is checked ON. I aso tried View > Tools > Document Processing > "create Links from URLs" and it added two links but only outside of the sticky notes. I am on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Thanks.

AFAIK, URLs inside annotations were never converted into actual links. I'm not even sure it's technically possible to do so.
It might have happened if the annotations were flattened and the text in them became a part of the static text of the PDF. Then the URLs in it could have been converted into "live" links, but not before.

If you can migrate your forms server into Forms Listener Servlet.This will allow you to use forms outside firewall provided atleast one port(assuming yours 80) is open.

How do I launch a software demo from within a Captivate 6 presentation?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to weave together a presentation which leads into a full screen software demo - back to the presentation and into a full screen training session. I have all of the separate peices completed but I can't see a simple way to do it.
I'm imagining there must be a way to insert a button which launches the (SWF, html, exe file) sofware demo and another button I can insert into the demo which will take me back to the correct page in the presentation. I just can't see how to apply that as a command.
Any help would be gratefully received.

A couple of suggestions from a fellow Rod:
Don't set your publish folder to be the same location as your project CPTX files. Your folder will get very messy and make it much harder to find what you want. Keep your project source files in one folder and point your published files at another folder reserved for that purpose.
Make sure your publish folder location has been set up as a trusted location in your Flash Global Security settings. Google for info about it if you are a newbie. Lots of info on the web. Bottom line is that without Flash Security set up properly, lots of stuff (especially links) won't work.
Never have spaces in your publish file names. You can set the output filename in the publish dialog. You need to remember that your content is quite likely to end up on a web server, and web filenames should never have spaces because it can break links.
Always use all lowercase for all filenames. Windows servers won't mind mixed case filenames, but if your content happens to land on a different type of web server one day, then the mixed case can cause broken links.
Publish your project (without the spaces and with lowercase name) at least once to the output folder if you are creating a new folder there. And then copy any video files, SWFs, PDFs or other stuff that will need to be called by your published content into the publish folder location so that it will be available for linking.
I know Adobe says you can point the links at the CPTX file and Captivate is supposed to work out that you are actually wanting to link to the output file it will publish, but quite frankly I find it more reliable to just link to the HTM file. If that HTM file and the SWF/JS etc that it needs to call are in a different folder from the file you are linking from, then you need to set up a RELATIVE LINK, not an ABSOLUTE LINK. If you don't know what these are and how to create them properly, Google for info again. The web is full of good tutorials about linking.

Link from another server on welcome screen of EBP , open in new window?

I have added a link that is from outside the SRM server to role in pfcg and have done corresponding changes in ITS template to show the link on SRM portal main screen.
When the link in left hand side pannel is clicked , it opens in a new window but when I click the same link on main screen it opens in same window as integrated call structure.
The requirement is to open this outside link in a new window when the link is clicked on SRM main screen.

HTML link from external html page to link to a frame in swf

I am trying to set up something to should be fairly basic to
do .. but I cannot get it to work.
Need a link from another website to link to a frame label or
number in my flash movie.
Something like this ..

My guess it will not work because I have several stop
functions and a preloader in the 1st frame not allowing the href

I've got a JEditorPane (not editable) inside a JFrame. The JEditorPane is loaded with the HTML text and all the links to anchors are working properly when I click on them.
BUT
If I try to go to an anchor from outside this JFrame I can see how the JEditorPane scrolls to the right anchor and suddenly it scrolls back to the place where the caret was located!!!
The "funny thing" is that my code is working in jdk1.3.1 but this is happening in jdk1.4.2. Is it a bug?!?!?!
How could I figure out what position I have to set the caret to for every anchor in order to get the scroll working correctly???

This code loads the new html file ok, but it does not scroll to the anchor. The MyDialog.this.getBaseURL() just returns something like com.name.package, I construct the URL by using this base url and the name of the html file to open.

Call ABAP Program from outside SAP

How can I call an ABAP program from outside SAP, for example from a C++ executable, a .NET assembly or a JAVA package ? Are their "adapters" provided by SAP for this ?

For external connections to ABAP, the sap-proprietary "remote function call (RFC)" is a common way.
SAP delivers an RFC-library for this, and for some development environments SAP even offers a connector on top of this library to make connectivity more easy (SAP Java Connector, SAP Business Connector, SAP Connector for Microsoft .Net). An RFC is always starting function modules in ABAP, not ABAP programs, and these function modules need the attribute "remote-enabled".
(Remark: in the context of SAP NetWeaver Process Integration, SAP offers adapters for connectivity, also for ABAP systems.)
For ABAP systems on basis code line 6.20 and above, the remote-enabled function modules can externally be used as web services.
Information on RFC can be found in the SAP Help Portal http://www.help.sap.com, e.g. [RFC Call - Example Program|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/3d/733760ccb411d2b4550060941936e3/frameset.htm]. A search in SDN provides links to the Help Portal as well.

Graphics linked from FM reference pages don't display

Before I tell my department that they must edit each of the
hundreds of caution and warning notes in thousands of pages:
Is it true to say that graphics linked from reference page in
FM do not appear in help files?

Here is the only way I could get the reference page graphic
to display in a .chm help project.
And note, this method does not use FrameMaker's graphic, this
method re-introduces the same graphic into RoboHelp by including it
in as a background image in a css file.
- In Robohelp Project Manager, I must link to the graphic as
baggage item
- The FrameMaker para tag must be mapped in RoboHelp
(Properties, Style Mappings) to a special css style that includes
the graphic as a background image (see example below).
- The graphic must appear in Project Manager list of images
for the project file for the framemaker chapter.
- And here's the deal killer, in order for the graphic to
appear in the project file for the FM chapter,
I must use the graphic somewhere in the FrameMaker as a
discrete graphic. (It's not enough to just include the graphic in
the folder using windows explorer.)
So each chapter of FrameMaker must include a page displaying
any icons being used in that chapter (can't refer to the reference
page, must be linked to outside file)

- Remember to save the css file before I run RoboHelp.

A FrameMaker paragraph tag that consists only of autonumber
text will not be picked up for mapping.
You can force RoboHelp to notice the FrameMaker paragraph tag
by typing in a few letters where the tag appears on your FrameMaker
page (which you can later remove, and the style will remain).
For example, if you have a paragraph tag with Autonumber text
that places the word Thanks!, RoboHelp ignores it unless you add
some content to the the paragraph tag on the page, like Thanks!
...for all the fish...
Later, you can remove ...all the fish...
