Linking Multiple Tracks

Hello, I am trying to link multiple tracks so that when I move the alignment of one, the rest will follow. For example, I currently have my vocal and guitar lined up, how do I select and adjust the position of them similtaneously (for example). I want to add in sound effects in places, but I must make space at the start of my song,=.

To select all the tracks, you just need to press ⌘A. From there, you are able to move all your tracks simultaneously.

• How can I re-link multiple "missing" files from my iTunes without doing each one manually?

All of a sudden, hundreds of my songs can't be played because iTunes can't find the files. They are all still on my computer and I can link each of them manually, but that would take days! Is there a way to re-link multiple files at once?

Something must have been done to break the link. Did you manually move files or folders, rename files or folders, or otherwise change where iTunes thinks the files are located? Did iTunes crash at some point?
I haven't seen any truly successful tools to re-link tracks. You can check on Dougscripts website where there's one that uses Spotlight. There's also one that tries to re-link based upon your file being in a logical folder structure.
You could re-link by adding the files again. Of course they will be added as brand new files and not in playlists, and won't have ratings, etc. You can then use one of Dougscripts to automatically remove dead links.

• Trying to record multiple tracks (24) in Garageband with 3 presonus firestudio devices daisy-chained together.

Please help !! I can record multiple tracks (8) on a single presonus firestudio, but now I'm trying to expand the number of tracks to 24 by daisy-chaining three firestudio devices.
The three units will sync up properly, and Garageband detects all of the input channels, but the recording doesn't pick up the input signals for the 2nd or 3rd device. It only picks up the signals from the first device. I read the manual and daisy-chained the devices by serial number (lowest to highest).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

you'll need to create an aggregate device:

• Best way to use/link multiple motion trackers?

Hey all, am using CS3 still and working on a moving shot that will require multiple tracking info to keep it consistent, I plan to put details in sky/background etc. I was just wondering how to go about consistently linking together different track points, as a lot of online tutorials only deal with one track point usually and don't seem to show a moving shot. Have been using null objects and parenting but it goes all over the place whenever it changes to the next layer.
Hope that all made sense, I'm new to After Effects, any help is much appreciated, thanks guys.

I'm not sure what you are looking for beyond that. The script can offset, average and merge tracking keyframes which should cover all your needs. TrackerViz is yet another script that does this. If neither of the two do what you want, then probably the shot is unsuitable to begin with.

• Multiple Thumb Slider with Multiple Track Colors

Hi All,
Does any one implemented a Multiple Thumb Slider component with Multiple Track Colors. Please find the screen shot of the component below which I am talking about.
Any ideas or any link or sample source of code given would be highly appreciated.
If I drag any thumb the colored section between any two thumbs should increase or decrease.
Thanks,
Bhasker

Hi,
There is a sort of workaround I made myself. Basically you set up your slider into a canvas container and add new boxes exactly at the position between your thumb buttons, in order to imitate your 'tracks'. Look the image below and notice that the black tracks are in fact VBoxes. For different colors, make each VBox different backgroundColor style.
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.containers.VBox;
var tracks : Array = [];
public function changeSliderHandler(event : Event) : void {
for (var i : int = 0,j : int = 0; i < tracks.length; i++) {
var track : VBox = tracks[i] as VBox;
track.setStyle('left', slider.getThumbAt(j++).xPosition + 3);
track.setStyle('right', slider.width - slider.getThumbAt(j++).xPosition + 3);
public function addTrackHandler(event : Event) : void {
var track : VBox = new VBox();
track.setStyle('backgroundColor', '#000000');
track.width = 0;
track.height = 2;
track.setStyle('bottom', '7');
tracks.push(track);
canvas.addChild(track);
slider.values = slider.values.concat(0, 0);
slider.thumbCount += 2;
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:Panel title="My Slider" height="95%" width="95%"
paddingTop="5" paddingLeft="5" paddingRight="5" paddingBottom="5">
<mx:Canvas id="canvas" borderStyle="solid" height="40" width="100%">

• Moving multiple tracks with volume changes

I'm sure this has been addressed but I can't find it here - I have multiple tracks in Garageband 9. I can move multiple tracks but any volume adjustments do not move with them. Is it possible to move tracks and volume adjustments together? For instance if I shorten the first track how can I move all the other tracks and volume adjustments related to those tracks at once without having to reset every volume curve point?

• I am trying to upload a project with multiple tracks to iTunes. only the first track seems to be uploading. what do I do?

I am trying to upload a project from garageband with multiple tracks to itunes but only the first track is uploading. what do i do to make them all upload together?

Couple of questions:
What type of Tracks are they (MIDI, AUdio, Drummer)?
WHen you play your Project, do You hear all Tracks playing?
What happens when you change the Track order, i.e. A-B-C to B-C-A? WHen you export, do you still get only one Track and if so, is it talways the first Track in the list or a specific Track regardless if it is the first, second, or third?
Are you sure you don't have any Tracks Muted or Soloed (which auto-mutes the other Tracks)?
Hope that helps

• Trying to create DVD with multiple tracks that automatically goes to a slug

I'm doing a DVD for a live show where video and live performance are going back and forth. I want to make a DVD with multiple tracks that plays a movie and returns to a looping black slug (while the live act is happening). Then when the tech person presses next chapter it goes to the next movie (or chapter). That chapter/movie then returns to a looping black slug at the end of the movie (while the next live act plays) and so on and so on. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

I would think one of the easiest ways to do this is make each clip end jump to a black menu with a hidden button on it that links to the next clip. The menu can stay there as long as you like. Instead of pressing the next chapter button, get your tech to press the 'enter' or 'play' button... if there is only one button on each black menu, then this is what will activate. Have each button point to the next clip that you want. Use the title button to get back to a main menu, if you ahve created one for the disc.

• Linking Multiple Video Items?

"Up to 24 audio items can be linked to a single video item in the Timeline. [...]
When you create a merged clip, or link multiple items together in the Timeline, the video item is considered the anchor item to which the sync of all other linked audio items is compared."
--(FCP User Manual, Vol. II, Chapter 14, Linking and Editing Video and Audio in Sync)
So here's my question: How can I (at least in effect) make an audio item the "anchor", and have several video items linked to it?
Specifics:
I have audio-only clips captured from our master DAT tapes. Typically, each DAT clip represents one slate #, for which there might be 3-5 takes. I want to be able to put that DAT audio onto a temporary timeline, then sync up the video from the various individual takes (which were each captured separately) on the Video1 track immediately above it. Then -- and this is the part where I'm having trouble -- I want to link them all and drag everything back to the Browser to create a single, merged clip.
This single, merged clip would consist of the continuous DAT audio for that slate #, plus the corresponding chunks of video for each of the 3-5 (or however-many) takes we did of that particular shot. But right now I can only create a merged clip from timeline items which are officially Cmd-L Linked, and of course that Link command doesn't work if I have more than one video item selected -- even though all the video items are on the same V1 track.
So, is there some sneaky way to make FCP treat multiple video items selected on a particular track as if they were a single video item? That would solve my problem, allowing me to create the merged clip described above. (As opposed to having to Blade cut the start and end of each take on the Timeline, then separately select and Link each take, then individually drag each newly-linked take over to the Browser, thereby creating way more separate merged clips than I'd like to have to deal with right now.)
Would love to hear any suggestions or alternate strategies.

An editor friend I just spoke with suggested much the same thing, after first confirming that as far as he knows there's no way to fool FCP into treating a bunch of video items on a timeline as if they were one.
On further reflection (and after some testing) I seem to have 3 ways to proceed, each with pros and cons. Did a test using a 4.5 minute captured-from-DAT audio clip, to which I first synched the 5 separately-captured video takes for that particular shot in a new timeline.
Option 1:
As suggested, export this "sequence" as a QuickTime file, either a reference one or self-contained, then re-import back into the Browser as a new clip.
Pros:
- fairly straightforward operation;
- creates a new, stand-alone media file (when using the "make self-contained" selection) with video and the good, direct-from-DAT audio locked together for all eternity.
Cons:
- slight wait time for that file to be created;
- that same new media file takes up more of my unfortunately-not-unlimited disk space, which will then require more general housekeeping and "management" to keep organized. (At just under 1GB, the self-contained version of the test file takes up 50% more space than the DAT file and the related original video captures combined -- presumably because this new file has to fill in a bunch of extra blank video between the actual picture takes. The reference file version is about a third that size, around 350MB.);
- when looking at the new clip in the Browser, all my logging info is lost: Description, Scene, Shot/Take, Reel #, and Log Notes, as well as the "poster frame" for the thumbnail;
- and you're right, the timecode is also lost (in both versions), which is a worry should I ever need to recapture from the DV tapes.
Option 2:
Simply close the sequence and store it in the Browser in a new Bin called "DAT-synched clips". Open the sequence when I need to chose a moment, the best take, or whatever, from that particular shot -- and only then create the new merged clip which in turn can be used in the actual sequence to which that sync shot belongs.
Pros:
- saves some work in the short term;
- doesn't take up any extra disk space
Cons:
- feels like it might slow me down during the actual "creative" phase of the editing;
- requires another organizational layer within my Browser window;
- just feels clunky and inelegant somehow.
Option 3:
Bite the bullet, and razor blade the individual takes on the timeline, allowing each one to be properly Linked to the DAT audio, then drag all the takes to the Browser (in one multiple selection) to create new merged clips to work from and compare.
Pros/Cons:
- although requiring a lot of extra clicks, this process didn't feel quite as onerous as I'd thought it might (though ask me again in a couple of days);
- it creates new clips with all the Browser info (even the poster frame thumbs) of the originals;
- timecode is obviously unaffacted as well;
- no new demands on drive space;
- will just have to stash the original clips in new sub-Bins labelled something like "Clips w Original Audio".
Anyway, that's how I'm thinking of going for now -- but would still appreciate any insights, warnings, or alternate suggestions -- especially time-saving ones!
(Of course the obvious time-saving suggestion would be: next time you go to the trouble of sending a line out feed from the DAT machine to the camera's line in, make sure the camera isn't clipping the hottest audio from each take -- all of which sounds fine on the DAT cassettes, even though the audio captured from both appears to be peaking at the exact same level. Go figure.)

• Mistake in linking multiple items,

Hi I made a mistake in linking multiple items and now have entire library under one album name and one artist
Is there anyway I can undo this?

OP does not mean tracks but items (clips, titles etc).
OK. Fair enough. I wrote it wrong. Sorry about that. And I have no idea why I wrote "three" instead of multiple.
Select just the multiple clips, then right click and select "Nest". Then you can apply the opacity keyframes or transitions to the nest.

• I record multiple tracks (3-5) from real instruments and vocals. I want to send these files to a collaborator to add more tracks to, but Garageband wants to mix these down (which I don't want). How can I send the multiple tracks files to my friend?

I record multiple tracks of real instruments and vocals wth Garage Band. I want to share the file with a collaborator so he can add another instrument or two. I have not found a way to do this without the process mixing down the tracks. I don't want them mixed down like when I send them to Itunes. Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes. I thought I saw a method to do this with software instruments, but how do you do it with real instruments? I've tried every process on the "export" list to try to accomplish this, without success. Thanks for any breakthrough advice on this!

As isteveus said - for large projects uploading to a server would be best.
Also I can't seem to just attach a file directly to an email for sending purposes.
But for completeness's sake , you cou can mail a project, if you ctrl-click the project and use "Compress xxx.band". This will compress the project and create a zip file, that you can mail (if it is not too large). But ask your friend for the maximal file size allowed as a mail attachment.
But whichever method you use to share your project, be sure you include all loops and instruments, if your friend does not have the same JamPacks installed. You can bundle the loops into the project by saving it as an archive. "File > Save as" and check the "Archive Project" option.
If this option should be disabled, you can force it to become active by editing your project slightly. It is only available, if the project needs saving.

• Linking multiple accounts of the same resource with single identity of SIM

Hi,
Iam trying to link multiple resource accounts of the user with a single identity manager account. I'm able to achieve this using the 'resource type' also by doing a reconcile based on e-mail(which is same for resource account and IDM account), but i'm unable to link them using 'load from file' or 'Bulk upload'
I have tried in the following way
command,user,accountsLDAP.identity,accountsLDAP.identity
Update,134088230,"cn=134080,OU=people,dc=xxxx,dc=com","cn=134081,OU=people,dc=xxxx,dc=com"
Can any one help me in this regard

This is probably a bug or for some crazy reason intended to work this way. I have a similar issue, only difference being my resource is Sun Access Manager instead of LDAP. When I ran my code through Netbeans Debugger I saw that the resource account Fields that holds the value for resource account attributes, simply vanishes during a particular step of form processing. The only workaround I have at this point is to make those attributes as global.<attributeName> instead of accounts[<ResourceName>|<accountType>].<attributeName>
If anyone can get to bottom of this please post here. I'm going to raise a Support Ticket with Sun.

• Multiple tracks on a single processor

Hi,
Whenever I create an audio processor, the number of tracks is always one, that figures that I can only transmit a single codec, like gsm or ulaw. Say, i need a processor with multiple tracks in order to switch codecs dynamically during session. How can it be done? i've tried using ProcessorModel and feed it with multiple audio formats, but it would throw a CannotRealizeProcessor exception all the time. Any ideas?

I was waiting for someone to give you an answer on this because I'm curious if anyone has been able to do what you described...
Alas, from the extreme silence I assume nobody has been able to do what you describe. Personally, I think I would create a custom Codec that would incorporate the codecs I wanted to switch between and do it that way. You would have only one track but the codec would have to somehow know when to switch decoding/encoding methods. Presumably a payload change event or other programming event could trigger this. This is somewhat similar to how I've handled DTMF events with Ulaw data in the past.

• Advice Needed: Filtering/Adding effects to multiple tracks

I'm writing a dance song, and at one point would like to apply a few filtering sweeps on selected drum tracks.
Which is the best way to do it? Is it to bounce down the tracks into an audio file, then apply the effects onto that file by itself, or is it better to route the multiple tracks to an effects bus?
I have been trying using a bus, but have found that as soon as I route the tracks to the bus, the is a change in the sound quality of the track (louder and sometimes slightly distorted), even without any plugins on the bus. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks.

How are you routing to a bus? If you are just using sends, then what's happeing is that the individual channels are going to the master output, and also being sent to a bus that is also going to the master output - this everything sent to that bus will get louder.
If you want to send a bunch of channels directly to a bus for insert processing, then change each channel's output to the bus, rather than the main output, so the individual channels only go to the mix via the bus, and not directly.
Or are you doing something different to that?
