Linking to specific cells in an Excel spreadsheet no longer working

I use RoboHelp HTML version 7 and just upgraded to MS Office 2007. I have project that contains hyperlinks to specific cells in an Excel spreadsheet using the following syntax: <a HREF="../file_name.xls#cell_name"> (a tip I found on Peter Grainge's website). This worked fine with Office 2003.
With Office 2007, however, the hyperlink opens the Excel spreadsheet to the first cell on the first tab regardless of the the #cell_name suffix. I've tried the following with no success:
delete the .xls baggage file, convert the .xls to the newer .xlsx format, add the .xlsx as a baggage file, rename the hyperlinks to .xlsx (in HTML view), generate new output
same as above but re-creating the hyperlinks (rather than just renaming)
When I preview the topic, the hyperlink is active but does not open the spreadsheet (topic cannot be found). In the generated output, the hyperlink is not even a hyperlink (just plain old text).
Another unusual behavior (I have no idea if this is related) -- before I tried to fix this, when the original spreadsheet (.xls) opened in "compatibility mode," it was not maximized in Excel's window. When I used to open this in Office 2003, it was always maximized.
Does anyone know if the #cell_name suffix works in Office 2007? Is there another way to link to a specific cell?

Hi all
As I understand it, the "X" on the 2007 stuff signifies a format similar to a zipped format. If what I understand is true, it would seem to make sense that this would also somewhat preclude linking in the manner you are speaking of. It would be akin to opening a specific document after first opening the zip archive.

Writing to specific cells of existing Excel file and saving as a new file using LV 8.6

Hi all,
I am new to LV and am currently tasked to create a program that can open an existing excel file, input data in the program that will be written to a specific cell in the excel file and then saving the current edited file as a new file.
I have browsed through all the forums but I am unable to view the examples sent in them as I am using LV 8.6 which is why I am still having trouble visualizing how to create a program like this. Can anyone help me and mentor me how to write this program in this version of LV? I do not have a microsoft office toolkit hence another approach could be preferred. Thank you.

Thank you for helping me on this. However I do not really understand how does ActiveEx work. I have created a Vi according to the picture that you provided but there was some error in running the file.
Below is my own VI that I am trying to create. It consists of multiple string inputs which I am trying to input each into an existing file. I have created a separate txt file which has the cell numbers. I am trying to allocate each string into each respective cell in an existing file. I am currently having the problem of doing this "allocation" of each string as I do not have the microsoft office tool kit. Is there any other way for me to do so?
Also, I would like to save the newly created file as a new file with the name as seen in my VI. How would I be able to do it?
Please help me as I am stuck here but do not know how to continue

I need to move the data from several cells in an excel spreadsheet to another computer's excel spreadsheet.

I have a data aquisition program on computer #1(not labview) that writes to an excel spread sheet and I would like to have a row of data transfered to another excel spreadsheet running labview(computer #2)on the same network. I would like to make this transfer of data either over the network or some other method to link these two computers (they are two feet apart). I'm not sure that datasocket would help , as it seems that the data to be moved must be written for datasocket in labview. My other alternative is to write drivers for the device that provides the data for computer #1. This is a new one for me as the user doesn't want to give up the non-labview program on #1.

How to create Links in a cell to other Excel docs Cell in Planning layout

Hi All,
I have a requirement to replace an existing forecasting process using normal Excel with BPS with Excel in place. One difficulty I came across is that the existing Excel input template has cells with links to many other excel files so users does not to open all other Excel documents and copy and paste the figures in.
I am stuck on replicate this function in BPS as I cannot create links to to other Excel directly in a cell in BPS Excel layout. My initial idea is to create a Macro to copy the data across but in deeper thought this might not be the best solution as the number of excel link can be a lot and the name and location of these files might change quite frequently and I cannot hard code it in the macro..
Any ideas?

Hi Marc,
The reason to use BPS is once the data is in the layout, we need to run the data in a true forecast / simulation model (i.e. compare actuals, copy data between differnt planning versions, Foreign Exchange rate planning , allocation, revaluation, etc...) on a different hierarchy level.
The problem is the starting point data is scattered in lots of other Excel file from local drives from different users. I guess this is the same reason why the csv file upload technique exist, (i.e. to load data to the layout )but in my case the data location needed to be very dynamic and comes from large / different source of data.
I have now developed a solution to reference data from cells in different Excel sheet to the layout. Once set up, it should be able to save users significant amount of time to bring the base data into the layout, especially if their data is source from many ither Excel files.

Links in some of the websites I use no longer work now that I downloaded the update

Some of the links in a site I use are no longer working now that I have done the software update.
Ie.. I use an online canteen programme to order lunch for my kids but now I can no longer use some of the websites links. I've contacted the company and they think its an iOS update issue and have stated its out of their control- how can I rectify this?

I know it must be frustrating when a website that you normally use is no longer working the way you would expect. The first thing I would suggest looking at your cookies in Settings > Safari. Please reference the attached article for further information. The article goes up to iOS 7 but the settings are in the same place in iOS 8.

How do I unmerge multiple cells in an excel spreadsheet?

This is driving me nuts! I have no problem using excel on a PC but I can't for the life of me figure out how to unmerge cells on a mac. I've tried opening the formatting toolbox and going to alignment/spacing and then clicking in the "merge cells" box. The merge check box does not have a checkmark but rather a dash. When I click on it I get the following error message: "merging into one cell will keep the upper-left most data only". I am working on a large spreadsheet and normally on a pc I would click on the little triangle on upper left corner of the spreadsheet to select the entire spreadsheet and unmerge. It's usually not a big problem on a PC so I'm hoping there's a simple way to do this on a mac and I just haven't found it yet. HELP!!

How to change the font of a cell in an Excel spreadsheet from within LabVIEW?

The Font property appears to be a Read-Only property and I can not find another ActiveX Property or Method that seems to do the job.

You will need to go down to the Range object and get a reference to a cell or group of cells. From there you can get font object for that range and change properties there. (This is of course dependent upon your version of Excel that you have.)

DDE link between MT4 & Excel 2010 no longer works on Windows 8.1 64bit

I have a DDE link between EXCEL 2010 & Metatrader (MT4) that has worked flawlessly up until yesterday. Now the spreadsheet just hangs when
i attempt to update.
I had not changed anything on my machine prior to the problem, but have since repaired then reinstalled Office and reinstalled MT4 but the problem persists.
The link still works fine on my Windows 7 64bit PC with the same version of Excel and MT4, so the problem is not at the server end. I have even taken the EXCEL file from the WIN8 machine and it works fine on the Win7 machine
MT4 is installed in C:/ as the link did not work previously when installed in program files
Help!

P.S. If Excel file was created on an older version of Excel, it should be converted to 2010 format, and the inputs are a little different.
Example:
Instead of =MT4|ASK!EURUSD
it's now ='MT4'|ASK!EURUSD

Linked cells in same workbook are no longer working

I created a workbook with multiple worksheets, with some cells containing data linked from one sheet to the next - there is no linking to external data.
The linking was done by the copy and paste link option and locking the cells in the destination cell.
Various versions have been created of this workbook all containing data relevant to the user.
The workbooks are all located on a large corporate shared network across many locations state-wide. These workbooks have not been saved as macro enabled, nor are the workbooks shared.
All workbooks have been used extensively for some time with success, until very recently.
Recently the linked cells have ceased to work, and in some the data validation lists have failed to be available.
There are hundreds of these copies now in use; and I have begun the laborious task of again data linking in each individually saved workbook, only to find the link does still not work.
I have tried unlocking the destination cell, linking the source and destination cells again and then re-locking the destination cell, but to no success. Even the master template saved in the corporate shared network location is affected.
Interestingly I found a copy located on our own campus shared network, and this one has all the linked cells still working fine. This leads me to think the problem is somehow associated network or server?
Is someone able to enlighten me? I need to take this issue to our IT if it is. or is there something very simple I am overlooking?

THE LINKS AT THE TOP OF ANY WEB PAGE NO LONGER WORK. wHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS

Want to open an Excel Spreadsheet from a link.

I am working with financial website and it has a link to a Excel Spreadsheet already design to performa complex calculation. Spreadsheet is in Excel. Clicking on the link does not open it and I cannot figure how to get it to open in Numbers - any ideas.

This note, from a cell in the Excel spreadsheet, likely explains the difficulty:
If you are using on older version of Excel, you may need to install an “Add-In.” On the Tools menu at the top of your screen, click Add-Ins. Select the Analysis ToolPak box, and then click OK. If necessary, follow the instructions in the setup program.
The add-ons in Excel's Analysis Toolpak are, to the best of my knowledge, not supported in Numbers.

Read all cells from an Excel file?

I'm trying to read every cell from an Excel spreadsheet file, e.g.
test.xls. The example in the NI Dev Zone (ActiveX Read Cells from
Excel2000 VI) works if you know in advance what the first and last cell
are, e.g. A1 and E453.
The trouble is that the number of rows & columns in the file will vary;
the last cell of 1 file might be E453, another might end at F29.
How can I programmatically read every cell in the file? I thought of 2
approaches:
1: Find an ActiveX property that returns the last cell (or last row and
last column).
2: Use some other way to read an .xls file, maybe not by launching Excel
but by using another program ...
The NI applications engineer couldn't find a reasonably easy solution,
so I'd w
elcome any input.

I haven't been able to find out if there is an ActiveX property or method the excel exposes to be able to do this ... searching on http://msdn.microsoft.com didn't return anything particularly useful.
I've tried this sort of thing a couple of different ways. The simplest is if I have control over the file generation code, in that case I've just used the first row A1 and B1 to contain the number or rows and columns respectively and moved on from there.
If that isn't a possibility then you could enter nonsense data around the acutal data and then look for that and then resize the array. This could get pretty slow if you read row by row, I've somtimes read chuncks of rows and then adjusted the next read and and combined arrays. With a large data set the memory and s
peed implications do need to be looked at.
The last thing is what you are referring to in 2. You should be able to save the .xls file as a comma delimited file. In this case the "Read for Spreadsheet File" vi should be able to just read all the data in. I'm not sure how easy it is to export an .xls file to a comma delimited format programatically.
I think this should work all though I haven't tried it. If it doesn't then you could just read one row and then count the number of commas to determine the number of columns. You can then read the entire file and convert the data into an array, as every comma would separate each column and a carriage return would seperate each row.
Haven't got LabVIEW on this machine so if I find anything new tomorrow I'll post again.

How do I show/refresh data from an Access Web App in an Excel spreadsheet saved in a Document Library on Sharepoint 2013 online

I have an Access 2013 Web App in my Sharepoint 2013 online website. It contains a query to report on its data (several, actually, but let's keep it simple). I want to connect an Excel spreadsheet to the query, visualise the data in pivot tables/graphs/whatever,
save the spreadsheet in a Document Library, and let other team site Sharepoint users open the spreadsheet (preferably in Excel online, but with Excel client if it has to be) and see/copy the data, refreshed with the latest information from the Access Web App.

The way I'm doing it at the moment is to create an ODC file to connect to the cloud-based Access 2013 database, save that ODC in a Data Connection Library in the SP site, and use the saved ODC file as data source in the Excel spreadsheet. This works and
successfully keeps everything 'in the cloud' but I can't get it to refresh in Excel Online, and if I open the spreadsheet in Excel Client I have to enter the database password every time to refresh it. I don't really want to issue this password to everyone
who might want to view the data. There must be a better way than this ODC method, I suspect.
Googlings on this have led down various blind alleys - Excel Services, PowerPivots, Web Parts - but I'm stuck on which to follow through. Please, someone, point me to an article/book/website that explains how to do this step-by-step in simple language..

I don't see any quick way of achieving it - at least there's no such functionality exists in SharePoint. All you can do, develop an event receiver that will update the fields in the list item once the excel file is added/updated. You can use OpenXml API
to manipulate the excel file.
