Linking two queries in Data Template

All,
Hoping to get a little help here. I have a basic data template and inside of it there are 2 queries. I would like to use a field from Query 1 and use it in Query 2. I have used the Bind Variable and Data Links (both work but I am getting what looks like a cartizian product). Query 1 is not a Parent-child relationship to Query 2, I simply just want to use the value of the field from Query 1 in Query 2.
Example:
Query 1 returns:
5 rows of 'A'
10 rows of 'B'
Query 2:
Using 'A' it returns 2 values
Using 'B' it returns 5 values
I want to use the value 'A' and 'B' from Query 1 in Query 2.
Everytime I use a data link or bind variable it would return 10 rows for 'A' and 50 rows for 'B' in Query 2.
I am not sure if there is a way to fix the queries themselves or if it would be something in the grouping logic that would handle this. When using the Bind Variables I noticed the second query(Q2) has to be inside 'G_SEQ' in order to return any data. I would prefer not to post the
queries due to sensitive data restrictions.
Here is the data structure I am currently using.
<dataStructure>
<group name="G_SEQ" source="Q1">

<element name="GROUP_TYPE" value="GROUP_TYPE"/>

Thanks,

Steven thanks again for your response.
You are correct that it will give me the correct data, though, the issue still lies in connecting the data. For example in my original question:
Example:
Query 1 returns:
5 rows of 'A'
10 rows of 'B'
Query 2:
Using 'A' it returns 2 values
Using 'B' it returns 5 values
I want to be able to display the results like this:
Results for Query 1(A)
Results from Query 2(A)
Results from Query 1(B)
Results from Query 2(B)
or in terms of the data above
5 rows of 'A'
Using 'A' return the 2 values(or rows)
10 rows of 'B'
Using 'B' return the 5 values(or rows)
I believe in the case you pointed out it would do the following because the first query returned 'A' and 'B':
Results for Query 1(A)
Results from Query 2(A)
Results from Query 2(B)
Results from Query 1(B)
Results from Query 2(A)
Results from Query 2(B)
or in terms of the data above
5 rows of 'A'
Using 'A' return the 2 values(or rows)
Using 'B' return the 5 values(or rows)
10 rows of 'B'
Using 'A' return the 2 values(or rows)
Using 'B' return the 5 values(or rows)
Thanks again for your help, it is much appreciated!

  • Linking two queries

    I am having trouble linking two queries in my data table. The first query finds the maximum of a certain set of information, has the breakorder set at asending and orders them by a set of numbers in that query. A coordinate (ie. x and y) field is based off this maximum. In the other query, another maximum and coordinate are found and should be ordered by the same thing as in the first query (set of number in asending order). Instead of this happening, it prints all the numbers (not just the max) and the cooresponding coordinates for that number. I think that it has something to do with the queries not being linked properly. I would like to figure out what and where to link these queries (the whole report is based off a common id number).
    Thanks!

    If you're getting everything (as opposed to just the maximum) then I would suspect that it's your where clauses, or groupings, that are at fault (select max(x), y from <table> group by y should only return one row per y).
    However, it's pretty hard to determine what's going on with your descriptions - could you provide a couple of simplified queries and describe how they're linked, and it might be easier for everyone to figure out what's going on.
    Thanks,
    Danny

  • Linking two Queries but the values are corrupted

    I have started linking two queries from the same Cube.  The invoiced value from the pre-query shows the correct value from SAP.  When I use this prequery into another query and look at the same invoiced value key figure, the result has changed and is not correct anymore.  Please advise what I am doing wrong.
    Any help would be most appreciated.
    Ray

    Hi Bhanu, the replacement path is on the Dimension Sales Document.  I have tried to use the same variable on the Key Figure Net Value (Invoice).  I also tried for a later attempt to use a different Key Figure in the prequery as net weight, just in case they added together.
    Am I right that I should be using the same key figure Net Value (Invoice) in both queries?
    Thanks

  • How to implement sub-queries in data template.

    Hi All,
    I am new to Bi Publisher.
    Requirement is to pass resultset of first query to second query to get correct measure value.
    Query1: (c1,c2)
    Query2: (c3,c4,c5,c6)
    I have to pass c1, c2 to query2 to get correct measures values (c5,c6).
    Condition to be used c3 IN c1 and C4 IN C2.
    Here multiple values of C1 and C2 needs to be passed to Query2.
    Please help me Masters.
    Thanks,
    Ammu

    Only way i see this working is if you find a way to join the result set of each of them (commom column in each query).
    If you manage this step then at this point you have two options:
    a) explicitly join the queries in the data template
    Example: http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/entry/multiple_datasources_i and http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/entry/multiple_datasources_ii
    b) Or else use XPATH in your RTF to join them
    First approach is easier, second approach is a bit more complicated but possible.
    Sorry we cannot help more as this is particular to your case.
    regards
    Jorge

  • Group xml data from different sql queries in data template

    Hello,
    I need to do a mailing program with bursting that sends differents alerts in one mail.
    For example i can have alerts for late orders, alerts for shipping not confirmed, so really different address (I dont want to use union). I have done three sql statement in data template , it gives the following ouput.
    <GA_EMAIL>[email protected]</GA_EMAIL>
    <G_ALERTS_1>
    <ALERT>
    </ALERT>
    <ALERT>
    </ALERT>
    </G_ALERTS_1>
    </GA_EMAIL>
    <GA_EMAIL>[email protected]</GA_EMAIL>
    <G_ALERTS_1>
    <ALERT>
    </ALERT>
    </G_ALERTS_1>
    </GA_EMAIL>
    <GA_EMAIL>[email protected]</GA_EMAIL>
    <G_ALERTS_2>
    </G_ALERTS_2>
    </GA_EMAIL>
    I woud like the bursting or data template to group alerts when email is the same, because here it sends an email for each different alert.
    Ideal output would be:
    <GA_EMAIL>[email protected]</GA_EMAIL>
    <G_ALERTS_1>
    <ALERT>
    </ALERT>
    <ALERT>
    </ALERT>
    </G_ALERTS_1>
    <G_ALERTS_2>
    </G_ALERTS_2>
    </GA_EMAIL>
    But I don't know how to group different sql statements on a common field (email)
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks

    the for-each group works well in a rtf template, but the rtf template is only applied after the bursting (in order I get first data template (instead of a report) -> bursting -> rtf template)
    I want to be able to group xml data from the data template, so I can do bursting (by email ) but only once per mail.

  • How to link two modules of data when querying the data ?

    Hi ,
    I am using Designer editor to create a form .
    I am having two modules with the tables EMPLOYEE and department .
    In my form ,I want to display the data of each employee with the department data .
    How to link the two tables data in the designer ?
    How to View the generated triggers in the designer ?
    Thanks
    Sai

    Two modules means two forms. These are unrelated.
    Or do you mean that you have one form with two blocks (master-detail)?
    How to link the two tables data in the designer ?You have to define the foreign key on the tables. Based on this FK Forms Generator will generate the code if you create two Module Components (master-detail) in the module. Don't forget to define the Key Based Link on the master block.
    How to View the generated triggers in the designer ?You can't. You have tom open the generated FMB file in Forms Builder to see what code is generated.

  • Need to generate XML based on Data template

    Hi,
    I'm unable to submit (the second submit) my request using the demo links (XDO 5.6.3 or XDO 5.7) provided in http://bipublisher.us.oracle.com/?tab=samples&header=dataTemplate to generate the XML based on the data template.
    Heard that these links are available for Oracle EBS internal use. I work with EBS-CRM. I need to generate XML based on a data template and use the XML in the template. Data template has two queries for a template.
    Pls help.

    I am trying to establish all my linking in this data template. However I noticed a discrepancy between the expected output and what I received. For some reason at the 3rd level of the dataStructure (the answer level), it restarts at Q_ID = 1 instead of whatever the Q_Number is from the level above. In my case all of the answers are in the same table regardless of category. Can someone offer up any help with fixing my template?
    I did notice something odd, for G_DEPARTMENT_ANSWERS it is working correct but does not work for G_GENERAL_ANSWERS.

    Warren,
    You need to select data source type as DataTemplate and then cut and paste your DataTemplate in the text editor window.
    Make sure you define the dataSourceRef in dataTemplate Header. The dataSourceRef is the DataSource (JDBC Connection) you define through Administartion.

  • How to Dene a Data Link Between Queries: Bind Variables

    This is an interesting topic and I cannot get it to work using Bind Variables.

  • OBIEE: Link Two Separate Queries Together

    Hi,
    I am trying to link two separate queries together in BIEE.
    I have a query that will give me the sales value in January 2012 (monthly query)
    But I would need to use the sales value of January 2012 to help derive the weekly sales value in another query (weekly query).
    How would you link up two queries together?
    I tried using union but it doesnt seem to be working.
    Thanks.
    Bill

    Hi Billy,
    Sure, My pleasure. Here are the basic steps what you could go through.
    1. Create an analysis with your Month (January) and Sales.
    2. Save this analysis as Report1.
    3. Create another analysis with Week and Sales.
    4. Create a filter on column:Sales using the option 'Based on Another Analysis'. The analysis editor will provide you an option to browse your other analysis which you want this analysis to be based on and just click on this browse button, and navigate to and select Report1.
    5. Once you have selected Report 1 through browse option, you get down in the same pop-up the relationship and use values in column.
    So sample entries in this pop-up might look like
    Column : Sales
    Operator : is based on results of another analysis
    Saved Analysis : /My Folder/Report1
    Relationship : is equal than
    Use values in Column : Sales
    6. If you run this analysis, you could get all weekly sales figures which are equal to the january sales figures.
    Hope this helps.
    Thank you,
    Dhar

  • Linking two lists to create a Data Source but cannot add web part to page in SharePoint designer

    All;
    I created a new data source by linking two lists which created a linked Data Source. I now want to access that linked data source via insertion of a Data Source control on a web part page.
    What I find is, both DATA SOURCE and DATA VIEW are inactive and unselectable.
    Is there any way to get this functionality going?
    Thx
    Larry Pexter

    Hi Larry,
    Since it is a coding UI, we need to put cursor into appropriate place so we can insert data view web part, i.e. the coding which represents the web part in to the whole coding part.
    As I tested in my envrionment, if you put cursor between <ZoneTemplate> and </ZoneTemplate>, I cannot get the DATA view, even before </ZoneTemplate>. Please put it exactly before <ZoneTemplate>.
    If you have modify the coding, please click save and test the issue again.

  • Two Queries in one XSQL-Template

    Hi there,
    is it possibile to use two queries in one xsql-template, which are generated two seperated trees of XML?
    I think about something like that
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <xsql:query connection="bynet"
    null-attribute-indicator="true"
    xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql"
    rowset-element = "COLLECTION"
    tag-case="upper"
    row-element = "FIELD"
    id-attribute = "">
    select c_formtype from offer_collection
    </xsql:query>
    <xsql:query connection="bynet"
    null-attribute-indicator="true"
    xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql"
    rowset-element = "COLLECTION2"
    tag-case="upper"
    row-element = "FIELD"
    id-attribute = "">
    select c_formtype from offer_collection2
    </xsql:query>
    which should give me
    <COLLECTION>
    <FIELD>
    <C_FORMTYPE>lala</C_FORMTYPE>
    </FIELD>
    </COLLECTION>
    <COLLECTION2>
    <FIELD>
    <C_FORMTYPE>lala</C_FORMTYPE>
    </FIELD>
    </COLLECTION2>
    Any way to do this?
    Thanx for help,
    Christian Hartmann

    Sure, just enclose two <xsql:query> tags by any other outer tag:
    <something xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql" connection="demo">
    <xsql:query> select * from emp </xsql:query>
    <xsql:query> select * from dept</xsql:query>
    </something>

  • These two queries return same data?

    select * from voucher where (unit = 'TIA4M' or unit = 'TIAFM' or unit = 'TIAWM' or unit = 'TIATW' or unit = 'TIAPA' )
    and invoice_dt >= TO_DATE('01/01/2006', 'MM/DD/YYYY')
    select * from voucher where unit in ('TIA4M', 'TIAFM', 'TIAWM', 'TIATW', 'TIAPA')
    and invoice_dt >= TO_DATE('01/01/2007', 'MM/DD/YYYY')
    Also the first is much faster right?

    The first query is using a date of Jan 1, 2006. The second query is using a date of Jan 1, 2007.
    Assuming that is a typo, the two queries are semantically identical. Since Oracle can easily transform an IN-list to a series of OR's, though, I would doubt that there would be any performance difference between them absent the 2006/2007 change.

  • Any examples of a data template using multiple data sources?

    I'm looking for an example report using multiple data sources. I've seen one where they do a master/detail but I'm just looking to combine results in sorted order (sorted across all data sources). The master/detail used a bind variable to link the two defined queries, I'm thinking what I want won't have that, so I'm lost on how to make that happen. I have reports using multiple sql queries and there is a way in the data source pulldown to tell it to combine the data sources. It appears to be a more manual process with data templates, if it's even possible.
    Any pointers/links would be appreciated.
    Gaff

    Hi Vetsrini :
    That's just it. Mine is simpler than that. There is no master/detail relationship between the two queries. I have the same exact query that I run in two databases and I want to merge the results (ordered, by, say eventTime) in one report. So I think my results are going to be two separate groups (one for each data source) which I'll have to let BI merge vis XSLT or whatever it uses. That's fine for small result sets but for larger ones, it would be nice if the database did the sorting/merging.

  • Different LOV behavior between SQL query data model and data template

    I have noticed different behavior when using parameters linked to list of values (LOV) of type menu with the multiple selection option enabled and a SQL query data model vs a data template. Here's the example because that first sentence was probably really confusing.
    SQL Query:
    select
    plmc.MonthCode, plmc.ModalityDim, plmc.ModalityName,plmc.RegionDim
    from
    DataOut.dbo.PatientLabMonthlyCross plmc
    where
    plmc.MonthCode = 200202
    and plmc.RegionDim = 1209
    and 1 =
    case
    when coalesce(:modalityDim,null) is null
    then 1
    else
    case
    when plmc.ModalityDim in (:modalityDim)
    then 1
    else 0
    end
    end
    Putting BI Publisher into debug mode, defining a data model of type SQL Query, defining a parameter called :modalityDim linked to a LOV that allows multiple selections, and selecting a couple of values from the LOV the output of the prepared statement is:
    [081607_122647956][][STATEMENT] Sql Query : select
    plmc.MonthCode,
    plmc.ModalityDim,
    plmc.ModalityName,
    plmc.RegionDim
    from
    DataOut.dbo.PatientLabMonthlyCross plmc
    where
    plmc.MonthCode = 200202
    and plmc.RegionDim = 1209
    and 1 =
    case
    when coalesce(?,?,null) is null
    then 1
    else
    case
    when plmc.ModalityDim in (?,?)
    then 1
    else 0
    end
    end
    [081607_122647956][][STATEMENT] 1:6
    [081607_122647956][][STATEMENT] 2:7
    [081607_122647956][][STATEMENT] 3:6
    [081607_122647956][][STATEMENT] 4:7
    [081607_122654713][][EVENT] Data Generation Completed...
    [081607_122654713][][EVENT] Total Data Generation Time 7.0 seconds
    Note how the bind variable :modalityDim was changed into two parameters in the prepared statement.
    When I use this same SQL Query in a data template the output is:
    [081607_012113018][][STATEMENT] Sql Query : select
    plmc.MonthCode,
    plmc.ModalityDim,
    plmc.ModalityName,
    plmc.RegionDim
    from
    DataOut.dbo.PatientLabMonthlyCross plmc
    where
    plmc.MonthCode = 200202
    and plmc.RegionDim = 1209
    and 1 =
    case
    when coalesce(?,null) is null
    then 1
    else
    case
    when plmc.ModalityDim in (?)
    then 1
    else 0
    end
    end
    [081607_012113018][][STATEMENT] 1:'6','7'
    [081607_012113018][][STATEMENT] 2:'6','7'
    [081607_012113574][][EXCEPTION] java.sql.SQLException: Syntax error converting the nvarchar value ''6','7'' to a column of data type int.
    Note the exception because it is trying to convert the multiple parameter values.
    Am I doing something completely wrong here? I really need to use a data template because I will need to link a couple of queries together from different database vendors.
    -mark

    This is for 10.1.3.4 - because in 11g every SQL query is automatially part of a data model.
    In 10g SQL query is for simple unrelated SQL queries.
    If you need to use advance features such as:
    a) multiple SQL queries that are joined in master-detail relation ships
    b) before/after report triggers
    Then you will need to use the data template, which is an XML description
    of the queries, links, and PL/SQL calls.
    hope that helps,
    Klaus
