Links screwing up in CS3

i'm using an xml based program to create catalogs in indesign. when i then split the whole document into individual pages using a script, i get in my links pallet a list of invisible links.
i say invisible links because they don't show up in the document but they do show up in the links pallet. my question is, is there any way to remove these links and or fix it to where they don't get pulled into my links pallet in the first place?

It works fine for me. I think you're seeing the active/focus
link color
(yellow). Click link, go back. Click somewhere else on page
and it turns to
visited link (green).

Unable to open linked files in new CS3 install

One of my clients just purchased a new PC (Dell Inspiron 537S) with Windows Vista Home Premium to replace his old Inspiron 530 (also running Vista HP). After installing CS3 Design Studio and attaching an external drive loaded with his file archive, all of his Illustrator files which include links load with the following error:
"An error occurred trying to read the linked file "file.xxx". Choose Repair to locate the missing file, Replace to select another file or Ignore to leave the link unchanged."
This shouldn't be unusual, if the path to a linked file has changed, you'd need to point the link to the new path, but clicking Repair or Replace and browsing to the linked file (which invarably is in the same directory as the .ai file, and is usually a .psd which opens just fine in Photoshop) just cycles back to the same error message, ad infinitum. After about 30 tries, I got one of the links to load correctly, resaved the document, thinking that would repair it, but when I opened it again, got the error.
These files were created on multiple computers, and none of the other computers (all with CS3) have ever had any trouble opening them. This despite the drive letter on the external drive being unstable on the old system (would often be J:, K: or L:, and images always worked).
Any new .ai files we create on this file which have links all work fine.
Manually replacing the links in a file is not an option for two reasons:
1. There are thousands of .ai files in this archive, and re-linking images in them will take weeks.
2. It simply doesn't work. I tried ignoring the error on one file to load it, and re-linking the .psd backgrounds to re-save it, and the images still didn't load after re-linking them.
I have already tried doing a factory-restore of the system and reinstalling CS3, making sure that there were no errors in the install. What else might cause this behavior, and how can I resolve it?

Outdated permissions on the files from your old computer. Right-click, Properties --> Security --> Advanced, disable Inherit settings from parent folders, chose to copy. After that, delete outdated security keys and assign current ones. You may even need to go so fart as to Take Ownership of some files to correctly restore the new system's default security settings.

Image Link Problems in Illustrator CS3

Am running on Mac OS 10.4.11. Mac is a Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5. File server is an IBM x3650, running FullPress Software and Xinet and Flashnet.
When saving files in Illustrator CS3 with preserved image links to hi-res images on the server, other users who later open that ai file, have to manually relink to images on the server. If the file is opened on the Mac that created it, images link automatically when opened again. The problem is that other Macs do not see the links/paths to the images.
It is frustrating and time-consuming. The problem seems to be isolated to just 2 specific Macs. One with the spec as above, and the other is a 2x2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, running on the same Mac OS.
All software installs are same on all macs in my studio.
The overall problem is : 17 Macs. 15 of these can open files created on each others Macs without issue. However, if files were created on the 2 "problem Macs", link issues arise. The 2 problem Macs have link issues with ANY other mac when opening files saved on any other Mac.
Sorry for long winded nature of this, but can anyone help? Have tried all sorts and have run out of ideas on this. URGENT help needed! Thanks.

Have solved the mystery.
Opened files in Text edit, and the links defined section, did show ghosted volumes on problem macs.
So, went to desktop > From the Go menu, select Go to Folder >then entered "/volumes"
This brought up the volumes and highlighted some anomalies. Folders appearing with same name as my server, meaning when the server mounted it added a suffix of -1, -2 etc.

Links Problem in Dreamweaver CS3 !

I recently reinstalled my Dreamweaver CS3. Now everytime i save a file, it saves the whole directory path with the file name. So when i opened my index page and saved it with some changes, all my css tables have been lost. and all the links in the file are relative to my system directory.
BEFORE, it was index.html
AFTER SAVE, it is "C:\Documents and Settings\Idiot User\index.html"
this has happened to EACH link that i used in my page, so even the css stylesheet is not working.
the entire website appears perfectly in Dreamweaver, but when i upload the files to my webspace, the links link to "file:///C|/Documents%20and%20Settings/Delvin/My%20Documents/CBPC%20Website/sermons.html" , for example.
also when i change the links, image locations to the File-only, and remove the directory bit, the images disappear in dreamweaver.
Everything was working perfectly, until i re-installed the program. Can anyone suggest a way in which every file and every link is synced; so it is what it says it is WYSIWYG !

You may not think so, but it sounds like a very plausible explanation and a mighty good place to start looking.
In your site definition settings, are your links relative to Document or Site Root?
Which operating system are you using?
Did you get all the latest updates for CS3 since re-installing?

Linked Images in ID CS3

Just upgraded to CS3, working on a past document, with linked graphics. The .ai files seem to break their links every time I go off focus of ID. The .jpg and .bmp are holding their links fine, but wondered if there was something different to do in CS3? Specific icon being shown each time is the missing-link question mark. No images have been moved/changed. If I switch to read an email and go back, it breaks.

YES! Any ideas? It's very, very weird. Each time I switch to another window then go back, the .ai links "break" again. It's maddening. Hope all is well.

Broken link to download Indesign CS3 - can anyone help me download it?

I had my Mac reset, but it won't accept the backup file I made of Indesign CS3. I looked online and tried to download Indesign CS3 from these two links, but keep getting this error message:

Image size is not showing correct in Link Information in Illustrator CS3

I am using Mac OS 10.4.11 and Adobe CS3. I have a problem in Illustrator CS3. Let me explain what is that....
If I place a link in illustrator which is having PMS colors then some times illustrator is showing wrong image size in Link information panle. Please see the link. That link was already placed 100%. But sill it is showing 24%. Do some one have solution for this. If you have pleas let me know...

If I remove clipping path then it is showing 100%. But I did not get one thing, I have another image which is having clipping path and spot colors. If I place that image in Illustrator, Image size is showing 100%. There is no error in that file. So I think, this is not about clipping path, some other reason could be there.... If you want I'll give that image which is having clipping path and spot channels.

Site root links problem in Dreamweaver CS3

I am having trouble with links relative to site root when I
work on my localhost with Dreamweaver CS3.
I am building a site with PHP, MySQL using the WAMP server. I
have a page ( www.site.com/index.php ) that I want to copy to
sub-directories (e.g. www.site.com/about/index.php ) so I want to
make the copying as painless as possible by using site root
relative links (e.g. /about/index.php ). It works on the internet
but NOT on localhost.
Why is this? What can be done? Is there a fix if this is a
bug? This seems like such a simple thing but it is such a
problem.

Because when your (local) webserver see's that you are
directing it to the
ROOT, it goes to ITS root, not the website's root (e.g.,
htdocs or Inetpub).
You can get around this by using virtual hosts (google it).

Updating multiple links at once in CS3

Is there a way to add an extension or a script - so that I can update multiple image links at once.
Theses images are in a catalogue and all the images are in the same folder, I am having to update one at at time.
I know this is in CS5 but I am stuck here in CS3.

Moving the InDesign file wouldn't cause the links to go missing. Theyre just pointers to a file location, so evidently the folders containing the links have also been moved. Was there a server update that renamed a server? That's a very common scenario for this problem.
There might be a script floating around that will deal with this. As I recall, exporting to .inx and editing the .inx in a text editor to change the path (if all the changes are the same, i.e. you need to change from Q:\ProjectFolder1\<filename> to X:\ProjectFolder1\<filename>) is a fast way to fix lots of links that were broken by renaming a server, but if the links are scattered, probably the best bet is close and reopen the file and let ID fiind as many links as possible in each folder you direct it to, as mentioned above.

Ann has given you the specific answer to your situation. Another trick to tuck away, for when Panels, etc. do not behave, or display, as before, is to go to Window>Workspace>Reset Workspace. That can get a lot of GUI issues sorted out too.

Hi pros and newbies ,
I have a question regarding linking flash symbols /
buttons.What I mean is : after creating dynamic / interactive
symbol in Flash I want to add link to it so any help will be

So you have a button in Flash and you want it to take you to
a url when clicking on it?
