• Help Scripting for PDF Form List Box

I am attempting to write JavaScript for an Adobe Acrobat X Pro form. I would like to set an action script for a List Box titled "customer_name" so that when a specific customer name is selected, a corresponding text box titled "cutomer_number" will automatically fill with the correct number. I am not very familiar with JavaScript so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The easiest way to do this is to set the export value of each list box item to the corresponding customer number. The script for the custom number field could then simply be:
// Set this field's value to the export value of the selected item in the list box
event.value = getField("customer_name").valueAsString;
Post again if you don't want to set up the list box that way for some reason since there are other ways to deal with this.

• How to set multi select by script to a list box.

Hi All,
I have a list box with multiple select on the form with list (Say A,B,C,D,E,F,G ..)
When I select A,C,E ans say this.RawValue I get A,C,E separated by carrage returns.
When i submit the form in my Fm I get A#C#E its all fine.
Now when the form is openend for the 2nd time to update values I get the value as A,C,E separated by carrage return thats fine too.
Now i need to set these 3 values as selected by default so i had some java script in form ready.
Where i iterate tru these list match the entries in the dropdown its fine untill here.
this.setItemState(index,true)
is the code to set them as selected but when i do only the 1st found is set to selected not the remaining ones.
Am i doing something wrong here, please let me know with your suggestions.
below is my script.
var ddValue =  this.rawValue;
ddValue = ddValue.replace("#","\n");
var ddArray = ddValue.split("\n");
var ddLen = ddArray.length;
var textValue = "";
GM_INTAKE_STRUCTURE.sf80.sfItemBuilder.sfHeaderConditions.dlExpenseType.clearItems;
GM_INTAKE_STRUCTURE.sf80.sfRequestSummary.dlItem.clearItems;
for(var i = 0;i<ddLen;i++){
for(var j = 0;j<this.length;j++){
if(this.getSaveItem(j) == ddArray){
this.setItemState(j,true);
GM_INTAKE_STRUCTURE.sf80.sfItemBuilder.sfHeaderConditions.dlExpenseType.addItem(this.items.nodes.item(j).value,this.getSaveItem(j));
Thanks & Regards,
Sai

Hi Sai,
The replace function is only replacing the first occur of #, not all of them. But you don't even need to replace the # before you do the split, just change your first lines to split directly with the # character. Your code should look as follow:
var ddValue =  this.rawValue;
var ddArray = ddValue.split("#");
var ddLen = ddArray.length;
var textValue = "";
GM_INTAKE_STRUCTURE.sf80.sfItemBuilder.sfHeaderConditions.dlExpenseType.clearItems;
GM_INTAKE_STRUCTURE.sf80.sfRequestSummary.dlItem.clearItems;
for(var i = 0;i<ddLen;i++){
for(var j = 0;j<this.length;j++){
if(this.getSaveItem(j) == ddArray){
this.setItemState(j,true);
GM_INTAKE_STRUCTURE.sf80.sfItemBuilder.sfHeaderConditions.dlExpenseType.addItem(this.items.nodes.item(j).value,this.getSaveItem(j));
Best regards, Aldo.
Any comments and feedback are welcome.

• How do you add a multiple entries at once to a drop-down list box?

I'm making a form for students to fill out and I want them to be able to pick from about 200 different courses. In the Field/List Items place, it would appear that you can only enter one item one at a time. I did this for 56 faculty,which took too much time, but for over 200 course titles, it would be much more convenient just to copy/paste them from an Excel spreadsheet, which is what I've tried doing. Any help or tips would be appreciated. I've attached a PDF of what I'm working on. The drop-down box is the one next to "Course." Thanks.

Hi,
The next version of LiveCycle Designer ES2 will allow user to copy and paste a long list of items into a dropdown or list box at design time. But until then your choices are limited.
Paste them one at a time;
You could set up a global variable in the (File/Form Properties) with the 200 items in the one variable. Then it would depend if your users have Acrobat/Reader v9 or earlier versions of Acrobat/Reader. John Brinkman has (several) blogs on this topic: http://blogs.adobe.com/formfeed/2009/01/populating_list_boxes.html
If you are going with v9 then you can use the setItem script. However if you want your form to be compatible with earlier versions then you will need the addItem script.
Also check out a sample by Steve Walker. http://forums.adobe.com/message/1939873#1939873 and http://forums.adobe.com/message/2038932#2038932 The first one dealt with adding user entered data onto a dropdown, which is not exactly what you are after, but it will give you direction in populating a dropdown from an array.
You would place the script in the docReady event of the dropdown, which would populate the dropdown every time the form is opened.
Good luck,
Niall

• Multi Selection from a List Box to a Text Box

So I want to be able to make Multi Selections within List box and export it to the Text box. Right now I have a Script running on the cal of the Text Box
event.value = getField("LISTBOX").valueAsString;
Which is able to do one selection but I cant find anybody that can grab two selecitons and put into a text box with commas for something. Is there a way to do this?
-Zach

Wow over my head a little. I understand what an array is with script but not how to write the script to handle it. I made this:
event.value = getField("LISTBOX").value;
But still no change in the behavior with multi selections. Example below if you want to check it out.

• Is this a Bug? List Box do not scrollbar: Magic number 2461

In my case I am populating list box from database using script. I noticed strange behavior with List Box being populated more than 2461 list items. At run time List box do not display scrollbar if the list items are more than 2461. Looks like 2461 is the Magic number. I wonder if some one already noticed this behavior. I want to see the scrollbar irrespective of number of list items. In my case I need to load approximately 5000 list items. Any one has suggestions? Is it designed to behave like this or is this a Bug?
Thanks in Advance.
SekharN.

Hi,
I noticed it too !
I have several lists, some oh theme have more than 2460 items and don't have the scroll bar.
An other problem relative to scrollBar in listBox appeared : with Reader 8, i can't use the scroll bar (even if i have less than 2460 items); it appears but i can't scroll.
I see tthe french adobe team about these 2 problems next week. If we find something new, i'll tell you.

I'm not sure if the code you display is 'Exactly' how it is written.
If it is:
1) The class needs to be public (i.e. public class ArrayL {.....})
2) In the code below, the value of searchexp is a string
var searchexp = $("continent").value;
ArrayL.getNumbers(searchexp, displayItems); but the function
public int[] getNumbers(boolean big) takes a boolean.
3) In the call DWRUtil.addOptions("country", data); 'data' isn't defined did you mean 'items'?
Finally in the statement that you have if (items.length == 0) I have found that does not work with Collections (at least Maps) returned from a method to DWR (as of 1.1.3).
Good luck

• Drawing a box in smartforms

Hi,
Is it possible to draw a box in smartforms in a non specific place on the page?
Thanks
Lindy

Hi Andreas,
The form I am trying to design is an instruction form for a driver.
Basically it lists the drivers instructions for the day, then has boxes where the driver can fill in vehicle registration, start kilometers and end kilometers.
There is also then a place where the customer can tick a box if he was happy with the service, or enter comments into a box if he was not happy with the service.
The problem is that the driver instructions can be any length, so I cannot place these boxes at a specific place on the page. This is what I originally did, but the client does not want to see a big empty space if the instructions are really short.
Thanks for your help. I would be interested to here of a solutions, but if it is quite complicated, don't worry about it as I am sure it can be done with a sapcript instead.

• Need help to change format of list box

I am very new to LIve Cycle Designer and I am trying to create a list box where users can select multiple items and their selections will show up not in a horizontal list form, but as a vertical running list like a sentence with commas separating the list of items selected. Anyone know how to do this?

As best I can tell there is no option to have a list/dropdown accept multiple selections by default.
One way to accomplish your goal would be to capture each selection using a validate or exit event script, then populating another text field or multiple text fields with the list of selections delimited by commas.

• Spawning pages from entries in a list box with entry text as title

The background: I have a form with a list box which a user can populate with their own text via a text box and an 'add' button. This works fine.
I've just added a template page with different content and 'spawn' button. This also works fine.
The task: What I want to be able to do is use the entries in the list box from page 1 to spawn the same number of pages as entries and also populate a field in each newly spawned page with the name of the corresponding entry (to act as a title).
How do I go about coding this?
Current spawn code:
var t = this.templates;
var T = t[0];
var XO = T.spawn(this.numPages, false, false);
for (var i=0; i<m; i++) T.spawn(this.numPages, false, false, XO);

This script will spawn pages depending on the number of items in myComboBox:
var f = this.getField("myComboBox");
var expTplt = getTemplate("tpltExpenses");
for (var i=0; i<f.numItems; i++){
expTplt.spawn(this.numPages,true,false);
I'm not sure how to auto fill the text fields on the spawned pages though.

Either store it in the session scope, or pass it as a (hidden?) parameter along the request.

I'm creating a form where I'm needing to populate a number of fields (first name & last name) based on the value of a list box (values are 1,2,3,4,5,6) ie: if 3 is selected 3 sets of the first name and last name fields populate on the page for the user to fill out.
At this stage it is just a prototype site and there is no database running behind it.
Thanks
Hayden

This can only be solved if you have javascript coding skills. Without knowing more about what you want to do and why, I can only show you a skeleton of how your code should look, but consider this form select field -

When a value is selected from that list, the "onchange" event will fire, and will call the javascript function called populateForm(). You need to define a function by that name somewhere on the page -

The page itself would need to have ALL the fields already in the form, but with those that are to be revealed set to a style of display:none.
Obviously, this is a skinny skeleton. Each test in the function would reveal a new field on the page by changing its display style from "none" (which is how they should be set in the code) to "block". You would need a separate function for each type of field that might need to be chosen.
If this is well over your head, then I'm afraid you will be out of luck for this particular approach....

• Filtering values in a dropdown list box

Hello Team
In the BSP application CRM_IC, we want a drop down list box to be filled based on the entry selected from another dropdown list box. We have all the entries for the second drop down box in ABAP internal table .However, we do not want a server round trip to happend in doing so. Thus we have used the attribute 'Onclientselect' and we are trying to call a java script function call on this event to filter this ABAP internal table . In this function, we would like to fill the contents of the second dropdown list box after reading the contents of the first dropdown list box. Please advice us as to how this can be achieved. Basically, we observed that ABAP server side script is not executed in the java function.
Thanks
Rony

Rony,
I have used the following technique to synchronize the
contents of two drop down list boxes.
Scenario:
The selection in listbox ddlbxSystemEquipNum, which I
will call "A", determines the contents of listbox
ddlbxModuleEquipNum, which I will call "B".
I use a JavaScript array to shadow the ABAP internal
table containing the possible values for listbox B.
When the page is initially displayed, listbox B is
populated from the ABAP internal table.
When a new selection is made in listbox A, I use the
onClientSelect event to call a JavaScript function,
updateModuleList(), to update the contents of listbox B
from the JavaScript shadow array based on the selected
value in listbox A.
Code Excerpts:
Declare the JavaScript shadow array and listbox B update function

Specify the onClientSelect event handler on list box A
<htmlb:dropdownListBox
id = "ddlbxSystemEquipNum"
width      = "400"
onClientSelect = "updateModuleList()"
ABAP and JavaScript to populate internal table and shadow array of possible values for listbox B
<%
loop...
wa_module_options-system   = wa_customer_tool-equipment_num_t.
wa_module_options-text     = tool_list_text.
wa_module_options-value    = wa_customer_tool-equipment_num_m.
wa_module_options-selected = selected.
append wa_module_options to module_options.
%>

<%
endloop.
%>
Hope this helps.

Shawn
