List installed apps

I've searched for what I'm after many times with no luck. Simply put, I would like a list of the apps in my iTunes library and alongside each app, I'd like to see whether or not it is installed on my iPhone or iPad. I can get all of the information separately, but not together. Why you ask? Because I'd like to clean up my iTunes library as I've got lots of apps that I've tried but will never use again.
I can see a list of all the apps in my iTunes library in iTunes of course and I can output that list as a pdf so the data resides somewhere but I don't know where. I can see the list of installed apps in iTunes of course, but it's not a list where I can easily capture or list all the names. I can look at the contents of manifest.plist in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/<some code>/manifest.plist. It's in a form of XML but I don't have the technical knowledge to extract the app names.
I'm a business application developer but never learned low level languages (started with COBOL and went into 4th generation languages). From a business appliccation perspective, if I could get the iTunes data in a one row per app structure and the installed app data in a one row per app structure, I could load both lists into database tables and product whatever reports I need.
Any suggestions? Have I missed something obvious (wouldn't be the first time).
Thanks in advance
Bob

Thanks cheonweb. I never thought of this. In taking a look at what I have in my iTunes app library, I have 1326 apps listed. However I have 1347 .ipa files in Mobile Applications. I then tried to look inside a .ipa file and it turns out it's a form of zip file. I then searched to find how to extract information from the file, specifically I wanted the app name, as opposed to the file name. I found a technique here:
http://www.earthinfo.org/extract-metadata-from-apple-ipa-files/
I tested it on a single file and it works. So now I can get the app name correclated to the .ipa file name. Then, having cheonweb's idea, I also found an expansion of that idea here
http://blog.macsales.com/17825-an-easy-way-to-clear-out-unused-ios-apps-from-itu nes-11
My plan is something like this:
Extract the app name from each .ipa file and record the app name and the file name. I'll also record the app names that iTunes has listed.
Next I'll make a copy of everything in Mobile Applications. I can always download again, but you never know.
Then, making sure that all my devices are detached and not syncing via anything like WiFi, I'll delete all the apps using iTunes. I'll then be able to see what's left over, apps that I probably deleted but didn't say move the file to the trash. I'll extract the app name and the filename and save that for later cross referencing. I'll move these files someplace even though I've already got a backup. Often it's easier to clean things up at the file level.
Next, with an empty Mobile Applications folder and iTunes app list, I'll attach one of my devices and Transfer Purchases. This will give me a list of all the Apps on that device. I'll run the extract again so I've got an app name and file name reference. Then I detach that device. I'll use a file compare utility to ensure that all of the apps on that device were actually in Mobile Applications. I could copy these files to a temp holding area as well.
I'll then delete the apps from iTunes and repeat for each other device I have. I should then have a series of folders with the files originally in iTunes as well as those on each device. I'll also have a file with the app name and file name. I could run a number of text comparisons or load all the data into a database or spread sheet to cross compare.
Looking over this, it may just be easier to do a file to file comparison and use the original extract of app and file name.
This looks like quite a bit of work considering I have 4 devices and in some cases I have to ensure that older versions don't get deleted. I'll have to think about that one.
There may be an easier way, but at least now there's a way. I'll let you know what I end up doing.

  • A1 - Lenovo App Store doesn't list installed apps or possible updates

This may be because of my inexperience with the Lenovo App Store, but whenever I start the Store app, I get an empty list of current and available apps. I did download and install Firefox cleanly, but no other installed apps are shown by the Lenovo Store app. I expected to find a list of pre-installed apps with potential updates to many of them. Am I missing something?
    Solved!

Thanks to both of you. I have used the Android Market with my Samsung tablet, and it is very easy to work with. I was just afraid that Lenovo had some exclusive apps in their Store that might need to be updated. Do you think it is worth the effort to uninstall the pre-installed apps and reinstall them from the Android Market to get automatic updates?
Yes, but you can't uninstall the pre-loaded apps unless you root the tablet. You can uninstall updates, but not the base app. I have not rooted my A1 and have no plans to do so. I am content with it the way it is. BTW I have a total of 166 aps with no problems. I would suggest you install anti-virus software (any of the free ones are OK), and look into a replacement launcher (I use GO). I suggest that if it sounds interesting, install it. You can always uninstall with no problem. I have moved any apps possible to the internal SD card. Can't install on the external card without rooting. I think that the A1 is the best sub $200 tablet out there.

  • AAM lists installed apps as "Install" still

I've used AAM to install all the applications on my Win 7 machine, but everytime I reboot everything bar a few apps (photoshop, acrobat & fireworks) seems to relist in AAM as "Install" rather than "up to date".
I can see the apps are there in the file system but their icons arent displaying in the windows start menu and in AAM they simply say install again as if I need to install them.
I've done this 3 times now and only Photoshop and Fireworks seem to stay listed as up to date.
Considering how long it takes to download all the apps this has taken nearly 2 days now just to get up and running let alone use the apps!
Also Why aren't the touch apps for android included in creative cloud price and available for download!?!

This doesnt resolve the issue. I'm still getting the apps listed as "install" - I'm trying an install again of those apps with the new patched version to see if this resolves the issue after this...
    UPDATE: Following Day...
So I had to reinstall the apps again with the new patched version - did this (to be on the safe side) one by one, then restarting machine after each and checking and applying any updates and restarting again until I had finally installed all apps.
They seem to be sticking now and visible in AAM correctly - so seems to work - taken 3 days to do this though!
Why oh Why cant adobe put this patch in as standard - not to mention service packs for flash etc being part of the app we all download instead of an endless day of downloading!! Come on adobe - you can do better than this!

  • Cmd Line: How to list installed App Version?

    Hi,
How do I list all installed applications, version, etc using a command line?
(some thing similar to the GUI-About This Mac, more info, Software, Applications). I also know ls -la /Applications.
I like to get a complete inventory of installed software using a command line.
    Thanks,
    Uday.

    Hi
I think this command should give you what you want?
    system_profiler SPApplicationsDataType
You could also use any one of these three:
    system_profiler -detaiLevel level
Where 'level' would be mini, basic or full. The manual pages will have more information; man system_profiler.
To see what other options (data types) system_profiler has available issue:
    system_profiler -listdatatypes

  • How can I see a list of apps and the devices they are installed on?

I have iTunes 11, and have downloaded numerous apps.
I have 2 iPads and 2 iPhones.  I know I can select each mobile device in turn and see whether an app is installed on it or not.  But, to see if a particular app is installed on each device, I have to click on each device and then look at the app list.
I would rather be able to see a list of apps, and along side them, a column for each device with an indicator of whether or not the app is installed, and a button, such as is used in the app list today, which would allow me to Remove, Install, Update, etc.
In this way, I would easily be able to see everywhere an app was installed, and in one place be able to, for example, indicate I wanted it removed from all devices, and potentially deleted from iTunes when that is done.
Is there a facility built in to iTunes already that will allow me to do this?  If not, is there a Plug-In I could use?

That sucks!  Thanks for the quick response.
Do you know if there is another Adobe app (free or paid) that will let me markup a large document and list my edits?

  • List of apps that install into C:\?

What are The list of apps that install wholly or partially into C:\?
I noticed that PhotTool by default will install its cache files into C:\. Handy Backup installs its data there. It may be a concern if the phone keeps crashing without anybody knowing why. The disk may become full silently.
Which other apps installed into C:\.

That is highly dependent on how the app is designed or developed. There is no way to know that unless you ask each developer.

  • How can I delete entries in the list of currently not installed apps

    Hi everybody
I use an iPhone 4 on fw 4.3.5 w/ german localisation. When I start the app store on the phone at the top of the update section is an entry purchased apps (or the like, don't know whether the translation is totally correct, but I guess you know what I mean).
Typing on it delivers a list of apps with the choice to display the ones "not on this iphone". This list contains really ALL of what I ever had installed on my mobile.
I would like to remove some entries or rebuild the list with only that apps currently being installed. Does anybody know how to do that? May that be related to the upcoming icloud service? I already did some research but did not find any hints.
Thanks in advance for any ideas

    HI,
If you're talking about making changes to your Purchase History... You can't...
If you mean Deleting Apps... See here:

Select your device on the left side of the iTunes window.
    Click the Applications tab.
    Select Sync applications.
    Click the Selected applications button.
Deselect the applications you wish to remove.
    Click Apply.

  • Installed Apps not showing in list - Windows 8, No...

I have a new Nokia 620 running Windows 8. I have installed a number of apps and only around half of them show in the app list. I know that they have properly installed because the show up in the memory as installed apps and when I have tried to reinstall them through WIndows Store, I am unable because only the 'Share' button is available.
Most of the apps which are not showing are childrens games/learning apps.
There is no 'preferances' option in settings - store. This is the only solution I have been able to find but it is not available on my phone.
How do I make these apps visible - and if this is not possible then how do I uninstall them given that they are not visible but taking up space?!
    Thanks in advance.

I've had the same issue, on and off, since Adobe CC launched.
Sometimes the apps are installed, sometimes the CC launcher suggests I install things that are already installed.
Today it signed me out for no apparent reason and now offers me a Photoshop CC update but suggests I install the Lightroom that has been there all along.
It just seems like bug-ridden software to me.
This is not for the enterprise version but I imagine these forums are filled with the same broad issue over and over and over again.
You might get updates, you might not, this is a feature.

  • What is the meaning, or significance, of the greyed out word "installed" next to the iBooks app icon in the iTunes list of apps on my new iPhone6, or slightly older iPad mini, retina display?

What is the meaning, or significance, of the greyed out word “installed” next to the iBooks app icon in the iTunes lists of apps on my new iPhone6, or slightly older iPad mini, retina display?  Both devices have iOS8.0.2 installed.  Both are having problems downloading some books that had been purchased previously for other devices.  And, before installing iOS8, the full list of had been downloaded to the iPad mini with iOS7.
Finding out what the greyed outness means may help me figure out how to get all my books loaded on both devices.  Any suggestions how to do that also would be appreciated.

Thank you.  Your explanation of why the word "installed" is greyed out makes sense.  But that raises the further question of why then is it shown at all.  There are other apps on both devices that can not be removed, and they are just not shown.  This is the only app that has the greyed out "install" notation.  All of the other apps shown are either identified by "remove" meaning it is installed and can be removed; "install" meaning it is not installed but can be; or "update" meaning it has been replaced by a more current version which can be installed.
All of the books that I want to install have been on an iPhone4 that was replaced by the iPhone6, and were on the iPad Mini with iOS7 before iOS8 was installed.  Installation of iOS8 on the iPad removed all of the books and only a few of them were later added by syncing with iTunes.  Since most of the books I am interested in are free or of small cost, I would be happy to delete all of them from iTunes and then reinstall the ones I want directly on the devices.  But I have not been able to delete them and when I try to install them on a device I am told that they already have been downloaded.  Very frustrating.

  • List of apps installed on a device

Can anyone tell me the relevant section of cocoa that would allow me to retrieve a list of Apps installed on a device? I am looking for a app I am writing to include a list of Apps installed on the host device.

No way, other than asking the user for an inventory.

  • Why doesn't Lightroom appear in my list of installed apps, with the option to update it.

All the other apps appear available to update, but with Lightroom I have to download it and do a fresh install each time.

Sorry, re-reading the info, the path is correct - but it isn't perhaps as clear as it should be; might I suggest changing the wording to something like 'look for the opm.db file located at
    /AppData/Local/Adobe/OOBE/opm.db
however - that doesn't solve the issue of Lightroom 5 not being listed in my installed apps!
    Cheers

As the title says. It keeps disappearing. Its driving me nuts. Because it isn't listed in the app list, it doesn't update. It's happened numerous times now. Only downloading and reinstalling it makes it reappear...for a little while. Then its gone the next time I check
