Listener.ora syntax error in NV string

Hi. I'm attempting to establish a connection with an Access db using ODBC. I've edited my listener.ora file to read the following:
# listener.ora Network Configuration File: C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Db_1\network\admin\listener.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =

(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC))
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = hostname.domain)(PORT = 1521))
When I restart the listener, I get the following error:

I'm guessing that my listener.ora file has a ")" in the wrong place or something to that effect. Would anyone mind pointing this out for me?

• TNS Listener -ORA-12514 error following database shutdown - Oracle 11g

Hi
I have hit a problem with my oracle development database.
When in sqlplus I executed the shutdown command, but nothing happened for several minutes and it was just hanging. No messages were displayed to the screen. The only thing was to close the command window. When I open sqlplus again and enter in the user name password as sysdba I am getting ORA 12514 TNS Listener could not resolve service in descriptor. This is odd as I could log on before and use the database. So I thought that the services were still shutting down I waited, and using the Windows snap on tool for Oracle 11g, I restarted the services on the database, but this has had no effect.
Even using EM made no difference because I couldn't log on to perform a startup or recovery.
So, please does anyone know how I can fix this?
Thanks

open Command Window & do EXACTLY as below; line for line
sqlplus
/ as sysdba
shutdown abort
startup
exit
COPY command & results from above then PASTE all back here

• UTL.MAIL error ORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 501 Address Syntax Error in

Hi,
I am new to the forum so please excuse if I post incorrectly without conforming to the standards.
We need to send mails using the UTL.MAIL package and have installed them on the database.
Whenever I am trying to send an email I am getting the following error:
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 501 Address Syntax Error in
[email protected]
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_MAIL", line 654
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_MAIL", line 671
ORA-06512: at line 2
The test code which I am running is as follows:
BEGIN
UTL_MAIL.send(sender => 'test <[email protected]>',
recipients => '[email protected]',
subject => 'UTL_MAIL test subject',
message => 'UTL_MAIL test body');
END;
I have tried different combinations:
BEGIN
UTL_MAIL.send(sender => 'test "<[email protected]>"',
recipients => '[email protected]',
subject => 'UTL_MAIL test subject',
message => 'UTL_MAIL test body');
END;
even tried
BEGIN
UTL_MAIL.send(sender => '[email protected]',
recipients => '[email protected]',
subject => 'UTL_MAIL test subject',
message => 'UTL_MAIL test body');
END;
Everytime I am getting the same error.
This seems to be working with an exchange mail server but never on the SMTP server.
In the SMTP server logs the sender address is not having the angular brackets <> unlike the other mails which are being sent over.
It seems that the SMTP server is pretty strict and the SMTP admin will not change any settings on the server.
The oracle version is as follows
Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
Could you please help me out with a solution.
Some how the angular brackets are geting stripped off (which UTL MAIL package generally does), Is there any way in which I can include the angular brackets.

I dislike UTL_MAIL - clunky and poor abstraction interface, and not well written.
Had a look at the code. It does this:
WHILE (ALL_RCPTS IS NOT NULL) LOOP
UTL_SMTP.RCPT(MAIL_CONN,'<' || GET_ADDRESS(ALL_RCPTS) || '>');
END LOOP;The GET_ADDRESS() function process the ALL_RCPTS parameter, returns the 1st address from it, and updates the (in/out) parameter with the remaining string.
SQL> var address varchar2(200);
SQL> exec :address := '<[email protected]>,[email protected]';
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> exec dbms_output.put_line( 'get_address='||UTL_MAIL.GET_ADDRESS(:address)||' address='||:address );
get_address=[email protected] address=[email protected]
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> exec dbms_output.put_line( 'get_address='||UTL_MAIL.GET_ADDRESS(:address)||' address='||:address );
get_address=[email protected] address=
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> The address is explicitly surrounded by brackets as per the RFC. So that is what your SMTP server should see.
If not - perhaps then our UTL_MAIL versions do not match. Cannot recall from what version I pulled and unwrapped the UTL_MAIL package code I have.
Personally though, I've ceased using UTL_MAIL a while back. It lacks in may respects. I have written my own mail package that supports multiple attachment, complex Mime formatting, attachments of 20+ MB in size, and so on - running on the UTL_SMTP interface (that provides the transport layer for sending mail). And for issues like you are facing, I suggest considering using UTL_SMTP directly.

You need to configure your config directory before you deploy. If you never configured v2 listener before then create a new folder like "c:\apex\config". Then use
java -jar apex.war configdir c:\apex\config
Then do your configuration as required and then deploy again.

• ORA-00604:error occurred at recursive SQL level string

Hi all,
Oracle Version :- 11.2.0.2
I found a error in a trigger(Statement Level)
ORA-00604:error occurred at recursive SQL level string.
Before Finding this issue,Once the DB Response was slow . Will this be the issue Of DB Slow response. The Above trigger fires for each entry in an transaction table.
The code is Patched and was executed . The above issue was found during another issue and not the DB Slow response.
My Doubt is Whether DB response slow issuewould be because of this. Now after fixing this Slow response was not reported.
Your inputs are highly appreciated.

it helps if you can post the complete stack of error messages (I'm suspecting you have several more messages than just ORA-00604).
A cut-n-paste of the SQL*Plus session with the SQL statement and the error message(s) below would give the info as to what the actual problem is.
Do you have INSERT priv. on that table? Are you doing this from within a stored procedure or at SQL prompt?

• While using the Old syntax of outer join i encountered Ora-01719 error .

This is quite strange when i used the Old way of using Outer Joins(+), i encountered the Ora-01719 error saying Outer Joins not allowed in Or and IN operator.Whereas when i use the ANSI sql i query gets executed without any error.Any idea what might be the reason..is it that i myself is making mistake.

Some things are simply not allowed with the "+" outer-join syntax.
There are work-arounds, but they are harder to code and slower to run than simply using ANSI syntax.
I recommend always using ANSI syntax, especially for outer joins.

This makes no sense. You don't configure a listener nor a tnsnames.ora "in a database". I hope this is just a language issue and not reflective of a fundamental misunderstanding of how tns works.

but when i am cross check sqlplus system/manager@ to_lsn
it is giving the following error
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect

• ORA-12535 error but TNSPing Works and listener logs connection

We recently migrated our firewall and then started seeing this problem for users outside of our own subnet. However, although the user gets this error when launching the application, the workstation is able to TNSPing the server successfully and listener.log does log the connection.
I was hoping someone might have some ideas or suggestions as to what might be causing the error despite the apparent connectivity to the database.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks so much for the suggestions.
1. telnet <host> 1521 connects
2. sqlplus <username>/<pwd>@<instance> returns the ORA-12535 error
Finally, the sqlnet.log on the client side doesn't log anything when launching the application so I have no information as to what exactly is occurring at that point. However, the sqlplus command above logged the following:
VERSION INFORMATION:
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 9.2.0.1.0 - Production
Windows NT TCP/IP NT Protocol Adapter for 32-bit Windows: Version 9.2.0.1.0 - Production
Time: 26-JAN-2007 08:43:41
Tracing not turned on.
Tns error struct:
nr err code: 0
ns main err code: 12535
TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out
ns secondary err code: 12560
nt main err code: 505
TNS-00505: Operation timed out
nt secondary err code: 60
nt OS err code: 0
I've been doing more research on this -- please note that I'm not an Oracle dba so I am just getting familiar with lots of things -- and have learned that user connect requests come in through 1521 but are then randomly redirected to other ports. Given the new firewall, I'm wondering if it's an issue that the random ports being selected aren't open for the users outside of our subnet. Does this sound like a plausible explanation? If so, how do administrators generally handle this -- by opening the necessary ports on the firewall? Is there some other standard approach?
Again, thanks so much for any assistance you can provide.

I am not seeing where there would be any syntax problems at line 37. The other odd thing is that this profile is the same as my ROOT and <SID>ADM user, so I do not understand why I am getting this error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I would say that one of the sourced profile contains the error, not .profile itself.
