TNS Listener stopping frequently.
Hi Team,
From few days i m facing below issue. As i m not aware of Database stuffs finding difficult to trace the error and the root cause for this issue.
Problem: TNS Listener stops even though the service seems to be running. Due to this my application stops and we are not able to access the application.
When i tried connecting to oracle Enterprise management console i get TNS Listener error, so i restarted the TNS listener service and my application services . Then everything worked fine.
I could see few errors in event viewer:
error: Faulting application TNSLSNR.EXE, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.
Please let me for further details. Immediate response will be appreciated.

Hi All,
Thanks for the reply,
Actually i m usinf export command to take backup. But even my system admin is using Symantec backup procedure to take backup of server.ie all folders prepsent in that server.
Please let me know which is the best solution to take backup.
Regards,
SalmaExport is not a backup of the physical database. It's output cannot be used to recover lost or corrupted database files. It knows nothing about checkpoints, control files, redo sequences etc. It's use is one part of a backup plan, but it is not sufficient on its own.
As a DBA it is your job to be able to recover the db, not your SA's. His backup plan is obviously no good for Oracle databases. -
RMI listener stops whenever the user logs off Windows
Hi guys...
I have a problem whereby the RMI listener stops whenever the user logs off Windows.
I've gone through the net and the only solution was to add "-Xrs" to the end of the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IBM Tivoli Identity Manager Adapter" service for the ImagePath statement.
Unfortunately for me, that did not work.
Anybody knows how I can go around fixing this.
Much appreciated.What's the RMI listener?
Do you mean the RMI Registry?
In which case the solution is to add that same flag when you run the registry. -
Listener stop automatically when my application installation is done....
Hi All,
I come across one incidence in my environment that when my application installation is finished , listener at oracle database goes down.
I am using Oracle Enterprise Linxu 5.3 and database is 10.2.0.4.
when looking to listener.log file for more details

I particulary know that there isnot any script calling or linked between my application installation and Database or listener part. then what are the possible cause to put stop the listener automatically? Is there any connection limit reach by listener or something?
please sugget me...OS has limitations on the processes per user. DB has limitations on resources. You can find a guide in Metalink: 550859.1
According to the error message, it appears to be related to network TCP/IP shortage. At least, that is a place to start. Maybe look at network log or OS system log for possible cause. -

8i on NT Listener stops working after Designer install
We installed Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.5.0.0 on NT. Database worked fine. After installing Designer 6.0, the Listener will not start.
FYI, for the Designer installation, we used the same ORACLE_HOME name as the database, but a different directory location. Any suggestions?
Please redirect us to another forum if appropriate.
Thanks,

nullRavi,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
1. Your answer would suggest that we have not installed the products in the proper order. Would you suggest that we de-install and re-install in the order you listed?
2. Could the installation order have caused the Listener to stop working?
3. Can you suggest another approach to resolving the Listener issue other than re-installing Designer and Oracle 8i in the order you suggested?
Thanks again,

This error points to either a connection issue or a code performance issue.

Listener Suddenly Stops (Oracle DB 10g R2 RAC on VMWare)
Hello,
I am quite new to Oracle, we have a 2-node RAC 10.2.0.4 configured on RHEL 4.5 on a virtual environment using VMWare
When the system starts up, all services are running fine as seen in crs_stat -t :
[oracle@bsspbbi2 ~]$ crs_stat -t
Name Type Target State Host
ora....I1.inst application ONLINE ONLINE bsspbbi1
ora....I2.inst application ONLINE ONLINE bsspbbi2

ora....bi2.gsd application ONLINE ONLINE bsspbbi2
ora....bi2.ons application ONLINE ONLINE bsspbbi2
ora....bi2.vip application ONLINE ONLINE bsspbbi2
But suddenly, after some time, the listener stops (sometime it is the listener of the node1, sometimes node2):
[oracle@bsspbbi1 admin]$ crs_stat -t
Name Type Target State Host
ora....I1.inst application ONLINE ONLINE bsspbbi1

I have to manually start the listener again by issuing the ff commands, depending on which node has the listener stopped:
lsnrctl start
srvctl start nodeapps -n bsspbbi1
After which, the status is back to online and we can again succesfully connect to the RAC, to node1 and/or node 2.
Is it related to network? Because the 2 VMs shares one physical LAN, meaning the public, private, and virtual IPs of the 2 nodes shares on 1 physical LAN.
They run on the same VMWare host.
I hope to receive feedbacks from you.
Thanks.

Communication between TNS_Listener and Apex Listener
Dear all,
I how does the communication between TNS Listener, Apex Listener, and Apex? For some reason I got the following error from Apex listener:
Caused by: oracle.dbtools.rt.web.WebException: Unable to start the Universal Connection Pool: oracle.ucp.UniversalConnectionPoolException: Cannot get Connection from Datasource
Caused by: oracle.net.ns.NetException: Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptorI truncated some of the Java object messages.
This occurred when I tried to connect to Apex. Then I can fix this by going to:
http://localhost:8080/apex/listenerConfigurethen, everything worked fine.
My listener.ora file:
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = firefly.snowdrop.com)(PORT = 1521))
ADR_BASE_LISTENER = /usr/local/oracle
ADR_BASE_ORACLE_LISTENER = /usr/local/oraclemy tnsnames.ora file
INARA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = firefly.snowdrop.com)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = inara.snowdrop.com)
)where inara is the instance name and firefly is the hostname.
Does the order of whether starting TNS Listener first or starting Apex Listener first matter?
Best regards,
Val
Edited by: Valerie Debonair on Aug 1, 2011 5:47 AMHm, I'm not able to reproduce the error. There was one time when I started APEX Listener got:
java.net.BindException: Address already in use: 8080=com.sun.grizzly.http.SelectorThreadHandler@46d999aand when I did the netstat -a got:
root@firefly:~# netstat -apnl |grep 8080
tcp6 0 0 :::8080 :::* LISTEN 4530/tnslsnr I had no idea what made 8080 tagged by the TNS listener, as I started it out before APEX Listener. Very curious how did this happen.
There was one time netstat -a showed me this (this happened after I stopped Apex Listener, stopped TNS Listener, shutdown the database, started database, started TNS Listener, and started Apex Listener):
root@firefly:~# netstat -a |grep 8080
tcp 0 0 firefly.snowdrop.:22110 firefly.snowdrop.c:8080 ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 0 firefly.snowdrop.:22111 firefly.snowdrop.c:8080 ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 0 firefly.snowdrop.:22107 firefly.snowdrop.c:8080 ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 0 firefly.snowdrop.:22109 firefly.snowdrop.c:8080 ESTABLISHED
tcp 0 0 firefly.snowdrop.:22112 firefly.snowdrop.c:8080 ESTABLISHED

tcp6 0 0 [::]:8080 [::]:* LISTEN
tcp6 0 0 firefly.snowdrop.c:8080 firefly.snowdrop.:22108 ESTABLISHED
tcp6 0 0 firefly.snowdrop.c:8080 firefly.snowdrop.:22107 ESTABLISHED
tcp6 0 0 firefly.snowdrop.c:8080 firefly.snowdrop.:22112 ESTABLISHED
tcp6 0 0 firefly.snowdrop.c:8080 firefly.snowdrop.:22109 ESTABLISHED
tcp6 0 0 firefly.snowdrop.c:8080 firefly.snowdrop.:22110 ESTABLISHED
tcp6 0 0 firefly.snowdrop.c:8080 firefly.snowdrop.:22111 ESTABLISHEDWhat are 22108, 22107, etc? I cannot reproduce this either.
Now I only got
root@firefly:~# netstat -a |grep 8080
tcp6 0 0 [::]:8080 [::]:* LISTEN
root@firefly:~# netstat -pnl |grep 8080
tcp6 0 0 :::8080 :::* LISTEN 5035/java which is normal, right?

2. loopback does not defined in the " etc " host file
According to trace file says , loop back adaptor is not defined in your system. otherwise please check it oracle listener in the services list.

=========
$ ps -ef | grep tnslsnr
$ lsnrctl stop
% ps -aef | grep tnslsnr
oracle 9798 1 80 11:08:18 ?
0:03 /solar/7016/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER
oracle 9823 8531 5 11:11:37 pts/24
0:00 grep tnslsnr
% kill -9 9798
3. Listener.ora
USE_CKPFILE_LISTENER = TRUE
USE_CKPFILE_LISTENER = FALSE
$ cd $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
$ mv listener.ckp
========================
* USE_CKPFILE_LISTENER *
========================
SQL*NET 2.3.X
Listener 기동시 listener.ckp 파일과 listener.ora 파일을 비교하여
4. Listener
$ lsnrctl start
# TNS- 12542 에러의 메시지만을 보면 TNS:address already in use 로
Jasbir wrote:

JasbirNot necessarily Jasbir.
Errors posted by Salai Jayavelu can be caused by many different factors, and oversized listener.log is just one of them.
Among the others are inadequate jdbc connection pool configuration(if applicable),listener configuration,init.ora parameters-mainly memory related ones,
shared server configuration(if applicable), and so on...
In fact , TNS - 12518 is so generic message that if he had only those TNS messages in the log, i would be temptated to tell him to contact support.
But as we can see, Salai recevied multiple different TNS messages that could make his troubleshooting of the 'Listener Hang Issue' interesting enough to
share his findings with us when he finally find the root cause.
Good luck Salai and goodspeed. -
Listening (or not) to music samples
When I try to listen to a short sample of a song in the Music Store, I get no more than 3 or 4 seconds of music, song stops for buffering and I get another 4 second bit. And so on...never get the full sample.
I use a dial-up connection and have had no trouble listening to samples on Amazon with Windows Media, for example. And have had no trouble downloading from iTunes.
Any help would be appreciated,
BobI had the same problem. Pre-listening stops after 7 sec. A have a broadband connection. After select "load full preivew before playing" it work perfect.
MANY THANKS.
