Listing folder from a main board connected by serial port

I have a main board, I connected it serially and accessed it by VISA application and I have managed to write to and read from it.
My problem is how to list the folder from the board. There are many files in every folder with different file format.
Any help will be appreciated

It is advanced embedded board, it can be counted as a storage device. We are aiming for friendly LV user interface for the customer to view the file stored on it.
And farther we want to list the files, and might add:
loadapp                       (load application loader file)
loadmax2                    (load and program the Max2 using jam stapl)
reboot                         (reboot the blackfin)
boot <filename>        (boot an application)
flashapp                     (program the loaded application loader file to flash)
setboot <filename> (tell bootmanager which application to boot on startup).
unsetboot                  (reset the application to boot).
setmac <address> (ex. setmac 01:f0:cd:45:1f:2a).
setip <address>        (ex. setip 192.168.0.150).
dir                             (list all files).
settime                      (ex. settime 12:04:01).
gettime                      (print out time).

If the folder is outside the Muse page, you will have to insert manual HTML to define a more complex URL like e.g. ../_stuff for going one level up and then into a folder called "_stuff" The deeper you are in the hierarchy, the more ../ you will have to add to climb up.

Connection to serial port via USB adapter- error -2147221503

I am trying to drive a stepper motor provided with possible Labview or VB programs. This motor is supposed to be connected via serial port, but the computer has not some, so I bought an USB adpater to connect my motor via USB. I am using the labview programs provided (Labview 8.0). The program cannot connect to the port and returns error -2147221503. Where may I find some help with that ?

I see references to 'Luminos'. Is this the provider of the stepper motor and LabVIEW code? If so, your first step should be to contact them. The whole VI is nothing but ActiveX properties and methods and the vendor would be the only one who knows what is going on.

Process Name when we connect via Serial Port ,Its URGENT !!!

For every connection we made, in Solaris it creates a process.So Can anyone tell me the name of the process when we connect serial cable??
like USB connection /dev/usb0 or /dev/hiddev0 process is created..

You need to provide more details about how you intend to use the serial cable. I can't tell from your post.

Connection to serial port for communication RFID

I have occurred problem in communication to serial port for accessing the RFID
through Serial Port COM1 or COM2 . I got garbage values of Card .
Please give me the code for accessing serial port and indicter the cadr is detected by RFID and read the data on card.

I've succeed to retrieve the data from the transponder (card) but it just only once when i click the button from my application. My question is how do i retrieve the data continuously from the card for every few milliseconds?

Unwanted data strings in settings, for connectivity to serial port.

When my program connects to the unit, threw the serial port its recording an unwanted string value in my setting files. Causing "19,Read Key (Boolean).vie" Error to be recorded. Unable to locate where and why this is happening in my VI. Im very new to labview and still learning the basic. I have came up with the conclusion that this error started to happen ever since the last LABVIEW update. (Version 13.0f2).

This is my original copy of my labview code, i thought maybe updating it was causing the error 19.
The first Settings.ini is before my code is ran, second is the error after the code is ran.
I inherited a program and im trying to follow all the code to key in where the code is causing the error. Im not sure what exactly code I should post.

Can i power my iphone from the mains and connect to my mac at the same time

HI
Here is my dilemma, my daughter dropped my wifes iphone in the bath and it will now only power up when plugged into the mains. When plugged in it cannott find the sim and according to the local apple store the wifi antenna is also broken.
We are not bothered about the phone it is the 1500 photos and videos of our girls which we dont want to lose. The phone hasnt been backed up recently and she is not registered with icloud so that is out the window.
So, i thought that if the phone could be powered by the mains and somehow connected to my pac at the same time i could perhaps get the photos synced and then the phone can be traded in at the store for a £119 replacement, thank you by the way Apple!!! you pay full retail for a product (£419) and all you get told is "your phones knackered, that will be £119 please"
It worht pointing out that the USB doesnt turn the phone on when connected to the mac.
Is there such a cable in existence which has two usb leads from the iphone dock connector??
I just cant beleive that the photos and videos cannot be accessed and saved by a company that always tells us they are cutting edge and ahead of the rest of the market, especially as the phone traded in will get, repaired, wiped and sold on as a refubed phone, if they can do that they can get us our files off.
Anyway, any advice, assitance, product reccommendations would be very very welcome.

How, exactly, would you propose connecting it to both an AC power adapter and your computer when it has only one dock connector? If you don't want to set it on fire, I wouldn't try.
If it can power on when on AC power AND it can connect to either the cellular network or WiFi, plug it in and power it on and e-mail the photos to yourself. Not the most elegant solution, but it beats losing all of them. I assume you were not in the habit of backing up very often.

Power Cycling Thinkvision LCD Monitors from the Mains Board each night

Can anyone confirm whether IBM / Lenovo have said its ok to power cycle monitors at the wall socket each night, rather than relying on power saving modes?
I have about 50 Thinkvision monitors - L151, L170p, L171p, L192p, L193p, L200p, L201 - all hung off the same circuit and I want to flick the circuit breaker each night, regardless of whether the monitors are on or off.
I can't see any issues with this - but would like IBM / Lenovo to confirm as well.
Any ideas?

Issues connecting to serial port A from Linux to Sun Ultra 2 workstation

I've been working on this for a couple weeks now. I started off with a couple of modular connectors and tried making my own adapters. I followed the wiring diagrams, and even tried numerous ALTERNATE wiring diagrams for a null modem cable. The most i could get was to be able to watch the Ultra 2 boot from Minicom in linux. I can't send anything, not even break. Finally, frustrated, i ordered a real null modem cable - DB25M to DB9F. I made sure the jumpers were set on the mainboard for RS232. You can imagine my frustration, then, when i discovered this morning that i STILL could not send keystrokes over the serial cable.
I am at the end of my rope. I cannot imagine what else i need to do. Minicom is set to use ttyS0 @ 96008N1.
Any tips, guys? I'm ready to give this machine away to someone with an Annex or or wyse terminal since i'm failling so hard.

I have a solution - in the CMC, set the repo to use DNS. You need to first create an appropriate entry in the <install dir>/sap_bobj/enterprise_xi40/odbc.ini and then create an equivalent entry on your client ODBC settings.

Eurotherm 2704 connection via serial port with ModBus

first some words about my problem:
I have to develop a software which allows reading and writing the
temperature (we have 3 Eurotherm 2704) (I think some of you know this problem yet ).
I wrote already the program and it works, but I used "iTools OPC
Server" for my program and it was the demo version (works only 30 minutes).
The group doesn't want to pay for the iTools, I should solve this problem without
iTools .
In this forum I found out, that I can use the ModBus for it:

No idea.

Which one do I need ?!
I think if I get the signal from one temperature controller, I can do it for
other, but my problem is now THIS one.
Can you help me whit it ?
Should I use a other example ?! Maybe do you know better one?

You understood my problem correctly.
We have 3 temperature controllers and I have to develop a LabView program, which allows reading the temperature from the controllers. It should be possible to write the set temperature from LabView to temperature controller as well.
The controllers are connected already (I think with RS485) and I can read/set the data from/to controllers (with “iTools OPC Server”), but I have to change my program so, that it works without “OPC Server”

In the meantime I found out, why I got an error with “my modbus serial query.vi” (the solution was very simple, I had to close the OPC-Server ).
It runs now and I try to understand now how the VI exactly works.
Maybe you can help me with it?
I try to explain what I understood, if something is wrong, tell my please:
The “my modbus serial query.vi” allows to read the multiple values (maximum 125 register) (default block read size is 125) from controller (I can see the data in the register array). In each register I have values for different variables. The Modbus address of Loop1 PV (I need this value) is known ( 00001, Eurotherm manual).
Does it mean that the first element in the register-array is the value for the temperature from Loop 1 ?! (multiplicated by a factor, if it is correct, how can I find out this factor? It is linear?)
And if I need the value of Loop2 (the address is 01025), I have to set the start address for example to 1000 and in this case the 25-th element in register-array is the value for PV Loop 2 ?!
I got this idea, after I left the laboratory and could not try it out. I can do it first at Monday, but I would know if it is correct what I think.
If it is correct, I think I will able to change “my modbus serial query.vi” on my own, that it works in my program.
Or there is a better example/solution than “my modbus serial query.vi” ?!
The other problem would be writing of temperature, but I will ask about it later . First temperature READING problem!!

ConnectionNotFoundException when connecting via serial port

thanks for the response.
no, I can't login to the switch(es) at all. There seems to be no response from hyperterminal at all. (Then I noticed that the LEDs had gone "solid" and that everyone started to complain they had lost network connection!)
Even when I powered off and powered on the switch with the console port still connected, nothing appeared on the hyperterminal screen.
However, as mentioned, I'm able to connect to one of our spare switches using the same settings, same laptop, and same console cable - so I guess that would rule these things out as being the cause?
Its definitely a strange one, especially as it seems to be affecting all 3 of the live switches!

Can no longer connect via serial port

Hi all,
I am an administrator for forty-eight Solaris servers scattered around the world, I have remote console connectivty via Cisco 2821 terminal servers. Recently all the devices were moved to new terminal servers but I can no longer get remote console connectivity to fourteen of them. Most of the servers just give a blank line. I have had the port and cable changed on two of them with no joy. One of the servers was local so I risked a reboot (didn't fancy rebooting one of the distant ones as hands-and-eyes support staff are difficult to get hold of and these are production boxes.). While connected via IP I attempted a reboot, after 20minutes of waiting I decided I'd have to connect directly with my laptop, when I connected the machine was waiting for an ilom login. After logging in and completing the boot the server was working fine and I could connect via the terminal server.
The boxes are Sun 5220's and I am running Solaris 10.
Any help would be greatfully received as I really don't fancy trying to reboot the other thirteen boxes with nobody onsite...

Answered my own question:
opened another terminal window and used the command killall ssh to abort the previous session.
Still don't know why it won't login to my server.

Help with reading information coming from a software into LabVIEW through Serial port

I am new to LabVIEW and also an amateur in using RS232 for communication. I have this software that has these icons like speed increase/decrease, elevation up/down, start/stop. Now, when I click these buttons on the software, they perform the appropriate functions. For example, if I press start button, the signal must go through a serial COM port into LabVIEW to start the machine. How do I do that? How do I find what format the code word is when I press a button on the software? And how to decode the information to read whether the button pushed is start etc...? Any help would be appreciated.

I may not be perfect, but I'm all I got!

That information would be in the programming manual for the device you're controlling. Unless you have a device that has no documentation or you cannot get the documentation that's the first place you should look. If you cannot get the documentation at all then you've got some reverse-engineering to do. To do this you will either need a serial port sniffer (a hardware device), or you can try to use a software-based port capturing program. On Windows PortMon is the most prevalent. This will show you how the port was configured (baud rate, stop bits, etc). Warning: the information is technical.
As far as how to get it running in LabVIEW, you should take a look at the serial port communication examples that ship with LabVIEW. The most problems occur in figuring out how to (a) terminate a write command, and (b) determining when to stop reading. For (a) this is typically done by appending a carriage return or linefeed to the command. This is device dependent. For (b) this is usually done by the byte stream ending with a character like a linefeed. Again, this is device-dependent.
You may also want to peruse this KB article: Serial Instrument Control Tutorial. There are also lots of tutorial on the internet for basic tutorials on serial port communication.

Simultaneous execution of time critical parts(one is the drive connected to serial port and the other is the DAQ) in a vi

We are developing a software for a cyclic spin test using Drive.
The drive software consists of a profiler part which should be running in a 50ms
interval.(every 50msec th operation should happen).
This Part uses a DAQ card.
To get some digital status we use serial link .
The status update can be every 250msec.
The problem is that the status read takes a minimum of 70msec to complete
(The serial protocol for the drive specifies some delay b/w operation).
We would like to have the status without affecting the 50msec operation.
How can we do this?
We run Labview 6.0 on Windows2000.

I`m not sure how the serial VIs affect the mutithreading of the LabVIEW environment, but setting LabVIEW to run multithreaded and running the two operations independent of each other (in two while loops without data-dependency between them) might do it. You will find the option for multithreading under "options". Bear in mind that a re-start of LabVIEW is necessary before the changes come into effect.
I would time-stamp the reply of the drive with the time of the request, not after receiving the data.

Using LV 6.1 and 8.2.1 on W2k (SP4) and WXP (SP2)

DV4t-5200 Main Board bad?

Hi all, i have a Envy DV4t-5200 laptop that recently stopped working (out of warranty), it wont power up at all, no beeps, very little lights, no HDD activity......
I did some extensive trouble shooting, diconnecting various items from the main board- dvd drive, speakers, fan, keyboard, touchpad, etc... and did manage to get it working agian, the computer seemed to be cycling trying trying to get started, fan would start up, then stop almost immediately, then do it all over again, eventually i got lucky and it started. I put everything back together started it up again and all was good. Came back the next day and it was back to doing nothing again. So.... back to the drawing board; started pulling things apart again, this time while trying to get it goign with virtually everything disconnected again, the fan barely budges at all when i hit the power button. So ive narrowed it to two possible problems, please keep in mind, I've tested the power supply, its reading 20 volts as it should, I also have been doing my testing with the battery pulled out, so its not that either:
1. Bad power jack (plug in wire harness type) - Ive tested the voltage on this with the compuer plugged in, i seem to be getting 20 volts on all of the red leads, which seems normal with my limited knowledge of wiring. Anything else i should be testing on this to rule it out? Obviously cant test to see if the voltage does anything weird when it starts, because it doesnt start.
2. Bad main board - Everything looks fine on it, but who knows. The product number on it is 717188-501, i cant seem to find this part anywhere online, anybody have any advice on how to replace this? I bought the computer about 18 months ago, its kind of frustrating that i cant find a part for a computer this new.... Are there any relatively straightforward ways to test the main board? Obviously im not opposed to getting my hands dirty so to speak...
I will also mention that i suspected the problem could be in the "switch" that puts the computer into hibernate when closing the lid, when getting it working initially i noticed that it seemed to start depending on how the lid was poistioned. So when i did have it momentarily working i set it up to do nothing when the lid closes, this seems to not be the problem since its not working again but who knows.

Sorry, one more thing i should mention; when i had it working, i reconnected things one at a time to try and isolate the problem, but none of the various components caused the problem again.
