Listing global variables

Is there a way to list all global variables in a multi-form app without actually knowing the names of the variables? We have some FMX files without source code, and I would like to create a form that would just list these globals. Possible or not? Or put another way, is there a way to grab these globals from the memory area?

The only idea that comes to my mind : start the debugger from Forms Builder with your starting module, and when reaching a breakpoint (which has to be set before) you can see in the middle of the debugger a window (the navigator pane) a navigator tree. Click on Global Variables and you can see all Globals and their values which do exist the time your program reaches the breakpoint.

1> Putting the value in sesssion
2> passing the value as page request parameter
3> Using the View Object attribute -- I recommend the VO as I think same AM is used for the compelte flow i.e. from checkout to review approver list

Use of global variables like g_cnt_transactions_transferred in the LSMW

when i had a look at the some of the LSMW's whic use IDOC as the object of uploading data into SAP from external Files i have found in the coding under the step "Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules" that they use some of the global variables like below

my doubt is where i can find these variables 'g_cnt_transactions_transferred ','g_cimtyp','g_mescod','g_fileport','g_trfcport' in the LSMW and what is the use of the variable 'g_cnt_transactions_transferred ' in the LSMW.
I have treid to find out the above listed variables looking in step 'Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules' under global variabels list and the other lists also but i couldnt found.

Hi Seetha,
In the LSMW Workbench go to the option user menu. And check the option display conversion program.
Now when you execute with the radio button on dislplay conversion program, you ll see the code that got generated in the background while you built your LSMW.
The global variables that you have mentioned are bound to be there in this program generated in the background..
You can put a break point here and see for yourself what the value of these global variables are at runtime.
File port, TRFC port , no. of transactions executed by one run of the LMSW Idoc program , message type are some of the fields that you have asked for .

How do you override global variable values when calling oraxsl or xsl.exe?

I am a newbie to oracle xslt.
I have down loaded the latest version of xdk (10.1.0.2...). (Jan 2, 2009).
In the past I haveI used micorsoft's "msxsl.exe" to perform my transformations.
I am looking for a more up-to-date transformation tool.
I found Oracle's version, and thought I would try it out.
I have run the "bin/xsl.exe -hh" command.
I read its help data. It states that variables are
passed by coding a pramater "-V <var> <value>".
I have also examined the oraxls.bat file.
I found the documentation on "oracle.xml.parser.v2.oraxsl" class.
It states that parameters are passed after the "-p" switch.
It says the value of the -p parameter is "a list of paramemters".
I don't find this sufficient information to be useful.
I can spend days guessing, and I might get lucky.
I thought it my be better to ask for help.
I need to pass in (override) values for 3 global variables.

How do you format the options string to communicate more than one param statement?

Now as part of the calling of the XSL processor I want to change the value of these

The syntax for specifying this information is not very clear in either situation.
Of course I am making the "assumption" that by "param" they are
refering to "global parameters" (as in my stylesheet), rather than some other global parameters of XLST.
As an aside inquiry:
I had hopped that the Oracle's xsl Verion 2 routine could handle xslt 2.0 commands
such as "xsl:for-each-group", since it handled multiple xsl:outputs.
From reading some of the documentation it seems it only handles xslt 1.0 syntax/commands.
Is this true? (or is the documentation not up-to-date?).
Any help on passing param values to xsl.exe and/or "oraxsl" class is appreciated.

Here is the line from one of my testing .bat files that passed in one parameter. I can't recall if I've passed in two, but this will give you a starting point for passing in multiple

Setting the value of an Application Item (setting a global variable);

In APEX 3.2.0.00.27, I need to initialize a global variable to 0 to implement a variable for testing to see if anything on the page has changed. Will update to 1 when certain select lists on the page are changed. Have read through some similar questions and replies within the forum as well as other blogs and sites. So, I believe what I am doing is the way to go about this. Unfortunately, my initialization of an application item/global isn't happening yet. here's a rundown of what has been implemented:
1) created an application item, G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW in the shared components;
2) created Javascript (JS) function called by addLoadEvent in the page html header region so when the page loads, the G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW global/application item should get set to 0 with the following JS and using AJAX and htmldb_GET:

I've used the htmldb_Get with success for populating other global variables and running On Demand Processes with onchange JS calls in the html form element attributes within select lists on the page. Afterwards, I can check the globals via the Session window and searching on Application Items. Unfortunately, I'm missing something because my G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW never gets populated when I load the page. The alerts all popup when the page is loaded, so I know the script is being executed when the page loads. the alert(gReturn.value) comes back undefined. And, needless to say, the G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW to 0 is not occurring.
I've tried the htmldb_Get with it calling an application process and without (set to null). From what I've read, you shouldn't need to call an on demand process to have the get.add set the global variable. Then again, this could be where I'm going wrong. however, as I've mentioned, this works for other functions called from an onchange to populate an application item, but the page has already loaded when the onchange(s) get executed. They may work because the page is already loaded when the onchange is called. My point here is that my other On demand processes are NOT setting or changing the global variables at all. The globals are getting set with the get.add(<app item>, <value>) portion of my other JS functions within the HTML Header region. So, I'm inclined to believe that I don't need the 'application_process=<some_odp>' parameter set, but if that's not true, please let me know. if so, what would need to be in the on demand process--ie, what would be the purpose of the get.add(<application item>, <value>) if I set the global variable in the on demand process because that's the only thing I could think of doing within an on demand process for this?
If somebody can point out what I'm not understanding or failing to do here, that would be great. I'm doing fine with APEX, but wouldn't consider myself a guru with it just yet. I'm definitely not a JS/AJAX guru, and when things like this go astray, I get bogged down because I'm not sure of the problem. So, I'm hoping you gurus who monitor this forum can get me going in the right direction.

Does that javascript work if you place it some of region footer on page 22 ?Yes. I cut it out of the html header of the page, and put it in the footer of the first region on the page. It initializes the variable. Putting it into the footer of the first region on the page should work for me instead of having an extra region on the page that's being picked up from page 0.
Is your page 22 authentication public ?No. This particular page is set for an ADMINISTRATOR only. That said, I am logged in as an administrator. So, I cannot see why setting authentication should make a difference as long as I have that authentication/authorization. Also, there will be other pages where I want to use this script or a similar script, but again, those pages will not be open to the public. the authentication will be "role" based where a user will not necessarily have to be an administrator, but they will have to have a certain role to access the page. Is there a known problem or something that precludes a html header JS script from doing an addloadevent when authentication is NOT public?

Sorry, did not read the imports. Yes, you are. However, I am confused about what you are trying to implement. You have a static method getDataSource(). You also have a static variable 'ds'. Use one or the other. I would be that there are seemingly random errors cropping up based on whether you remember to call getDataSource() or not.
You do not, generally, want the data source to be static. Multiple threads might use the class. And if there is only a static data source, you will either need to synchronize the methods that use the data source (resulting in a scaling bottleneck) or not synchronize them (which will totally destroy any concept of a logical unit of work or database transaction).

So, you mean there is no need for the DataSource to

No, in fact, IMO, it should not be. That is why you are pooling. Use instances. The pool will manage the connections and their availabilty for you.

Unchecked exceptions do not need to be declared in a method signature or caught within the method body. Checked exceptions do. As such, an added benefit is that unchecked exceptions de-clutter your code.

See above. Simply log the exception (there is usually nothing meaningful you can do if a close() fails, and it is up to you as a developer if this is an error or just a warning). Another option is to 'chain' exceptions. In your own exception, add a method 'addException(Throwable)'. This would add another exception to a List of exceptions. When you print the stack trace, iterate through the chained exceptions to print them all out. One place where I find this useful is rollback() code. If the original SQL statement fails AND the rollback fails, I definitely want to see that rollback() exception as well in my logs.
The DB thing makes me headache. What I actually
wanted is a solution for:

Is there a way to check which VI and it's subVI are using which item in a global variable.vi

While i writing the program, the program is growing and i also use global variable for it, but sometime some variables is delete from the VI (due to modify of the VI)
But usually I don't update the Global Variable.vi, there are is some indicator or control in the Global Variable.vi is not being select as a item in main VI.
So how can i differentiate between the still using control/indicator(selected item in main VI) and extra control/indicator(not selected item in main VI)

From your global definitions .vi, select one of the global variables, then right click. Select 'Find Global References'. This will give you a list of .vis using that global variable. You can also get the same info by right clicking a global variable reference on one of your .vis and selecting 'Find', then 'Global References'.

Replacing 20 fixstatements by Global Variable - Problem 255 bytes length

Hello,
we have an issue in businessrules with setting the fix statement on 1 dimension:
we currently use Fix (@RELATIVE("CBU_ALL",0) ) - on level 0 are approx. 3000 members - on medium level are 20 CBUs Seat and 20 CBUs Door
we have approx. 20-30 similar businessrules - which either calculate on seat or door CBUs
the requirement is to either calculate with a rule the 20 CBUs for Seats or the 20 CBUs for Doors
as we currently do not fix properly on either Seat or Door CBUs, we calculate approx. 1500 empty members (empty, if fix in another dimension done correctly) - tests showed, that this doubles the time which would be needed.
I know we could easily set 20 fixes in each business rule:

@RELATIVE("CBU_Ford_Seat",0)
(the fix above would then exclude the 1500 members, which are below:

unfortunately, the number of CBUs/Customers is frequently renamed or some are added, so I can not afford to built these 20 fixstatements into 20 different businessrules and maintain them all the time.
I thought of using UDAs or Attribute Values -
but it seems not to be possible in a fixstatment to combine a relative or Children fixstatement with UDAs, which are set on the upper member ?
I assume it works, if I classify all 3000 level 0 members with UDA or attribute SEATS or DOORS - but that's inefficient

having 8 global variables instead of 40 CBUs referenced in Fixstatements is not really an advantage
even if I would rename the CBUs to just S1,S2,S3,S4 D1,D2,D3 (S for Seat, D for Door) (and use aliases in Planning and Reporting with full name to have the right meaning for the users), it does not fit into 1 variable: @children("S1"), @Children("S2"), ..... is simply too long (still 400 digits)
also other attempts to make the statement shorter, failed:
@children(@list("CBU_BMW_Seat","CBU_Ford_Seat",.....)) is not allowed
is there any other idea of using global variables, makros, sequences ?
is there a workaround to extend global variable limit ? we have release 9.3.1 - is this solved in future releases ?

please understand, that as we use this application for 5 years with a lot of historic data and it's a planning application with a lot of webforms and financial reports, and all the CBU members are stored members with calculated totals and access rights and setup data on upper members,
I can not simply re-group the whole cbu structure and separate Seats and Doors just for calculation performance

How hard would it be to insert 2 children under CBU_All? Name them CBU_Seats and CBU_Doors, then group all the Seats and Doors under them.

I know it's not always easy or feasible to effect change to a hierarchy, but I just had the thought.

GLOBAL VARIABLES FOR NON-ORACLE DATABASE

What is the alternative of global variables in Form 5.0 when using non-oracle databases. I know one way is passing parameters, is there any other way? I have few variables which need to be global in my application.

There is no other way.. you have to use either Global variables or parameter lists to pass values from one form to another form.. With in the form you can always use null canvas item to store and pass values in different program units or triggers..

Using Global Variables in Data Quality Address Cleanse Transforms

I am currently developing in Data Services 12.2.
I am trying to dynamically populate the List Owner information in the option tabs of the USA Regulatory Address Cleanse by using global variables. It populates the 3553 with the variable name instead of the value assigned.
According to the Technical Manual, it is possible to use global variables in Data Quality Address Cleanse transforms:
However, you can use substitution parameters in all places where global variables are supported, for example:
Query transform WHERE clauses
Mappings
SQL transform SQL statement identifiers
Flat-file options
User-defined transforms
Address cleanse transform options
Matching thresholds
Does anyone know if it is possible to use global variables in the option tab of the Address Cleanse; if so, can you describe how it is done?

@@SPID global variable

I want to simulate the functionality of some MSS global variable in PL/SQL.
I know that @@SPID may based on the v$session. I can just list all current users id and don't know how to get the id of my current user.
How can @@SPID, @@SERVERNAME and @@IDLE be simulated in PL/SQL?

1. The session id of the current user can be discovered by doing the following query:
SELECT SYS_CONTEXT ('USERENV', 'SESSIONID') FROM DUAL;
2. @@servername can be retrieved by doing the following:
select instance_name from v$instance;
select instance_name from v$instance;
3. @@IDLE
select database_status from v$instance

calling that variable in a required pages, our questions is that where to declare global variable and how to declare in which page we have to declare? pls guide us its very urgent and send the code.

I would suggest using a comma delimied list or putting it in the database.
ArrayList myList = new ArrayList();
myList.Add("one");
myList.Add("two");
myList.Add("three");
string comma = "";
// store the array in the session state
foreach (string s in myList){
Session["persistedArray"] += comma + s;
comma = ",";
To get the array back
if (Session["persistedArray"] != null){
ArrayList myList = Session["persistedArray"].ToString().Split(new char[1] {','});
If your array is storing objects, you should use the database.

Local and global variables in ABAP Debugger

hi guys.
we have the following support package:
SAP_BASIS 640 0025 SAPKB64025 SAP Basiskomponente
I would like to use in the debugger the local and global variables tab strip, but I can not find it. Is it possible. that our support package is too low for this functionality?

Starting with SAP NetWeaver 6.40, SAP released a new version of the Debugger.
The Debugger available in Release 6.40 was not considered complete (and was
not the default debugger as a result)
The Variable Fast Display tool currently has four tabs . The first
two are provided empty, and you can either type or double click a name in the
source code to add it to the list. The third tab (Locals) shows all local variables
for the current program modularization unit, and the fourth (Globals) shows all
global variables in the current program.
