Little help with imovie hd and canon camcorder..

im trying to get videos from canon legria hf m406 to imovie hd, using macbook air. it doesnt seem to recognize the camera even though canon hdd icon appears on desktop and i get access to jpegs. it says no camera connected or whatnot. i got it working on my other mac with star iconed imovie..not sure which version this is.
any help would be appreciated!

A little help with installing Windows and configuring GRUB

I want to install Windows XP on my machine for various reasons. As I am writing this I am using an existing Archlinux. Now I wonder what I should take care of considering GRUB when installing Windows.
I know that Windows likes to mess with the MBR and as I am not too proficient with such things I want to be careful.
Alright, now I put in the Windows installation CD, choose a fitting partition and let it install. I assume that afterwards my GRUB will be gone... How do I take care of this?

After windows has finished installing, re-insert you arch install cd and boot from it.
Mount your arch Installation as below
mount /dev/sdXY /mnt
- change sdX for your arch / partition, also mount /boot if you have a seperate /boot partition.
start the installer, and then just do the grub stage of the install again
or issue the command
grub-install /dev/sdX --root-directory=/mnt

A little help with some code and theory

Hey guys, I'm kinda new to this whole programming thing so
bare with me please. I have a little problem that I just can't seem
to get my hear around. I have a working on an inventory management
page. It keeps track of what software is installed where and how
many copies we have, and serials and such. Well, this page was set
up long before I started here and it wasn't too friendly. So I'm
editing it and adding some new features. Well one of them is
displaying the “available installs count” with the
search results.
Here is my problem. The way the system keeps track of what
software is installed where is by adding taking the appId from the
table it with all the app's information on it (the sn, name, max
installs, etc) and creating a new entry in another table that
indexs that appId and the workstation it is installed on. (along
with an Install id) well the only way to check to see how many
copies is installed is to get the record count for a particular
appId.
This is where I run into trouble. When a user searches for
apps the results page displays the apps that still have installs
available. So where the record count of getInstallCount for
whatever appId is less than the max installs. Well what is the best
way to do this since to get the record count of getInstallCount I
need an appID and the appID isn't found until I do the search
query. What I'm using now is this but it always returns 0 for
current Install Count. See the attached Snippet of code:
I see what it is doing. It is getting the isntallCount for
all appIds, but I dont' know how to narrow it down without doing
the search first, and I don't know how to do the search with out
getting the install count first. Any ideas or advice would rock
guys. Like I said I'm kinda new to this programming stuff but it is

(avoids having to prefix column names with the entire table name,
etc.) When doing a self-join (joining a table to itself), the use
of table aliases is

Need little help with JPA code and displaying database data into tables

I am using java6 and Netbeans 6.1 on Windows XP platform.
This is probably very simple but have'nt been able to figure it out yet. I am using the Travel Java Databse included in NB6 as a learning tool.
I have a JComboBox connected to Person Table and want to display a Trip table from using the selected item from theJcombobox. In other words, Trip table shows only the Person selected from the Jcombobox.
If someone could point me on the right direction how to code JPA code or how to use NB6 GUI to accomplish this.

Little help with a NameChangeListener and Event

Hi,
This is very simple but having some trouble. Ive written my NameChangeEvent class and NameChangeListener. I also have a 'MainWindow' class which is a frame and on that frame I have a text field and a button. The button is called 'change name' and when I press this a JOptionPane comes up saying 'Please enter new name'. Now this is where i'm stuck....I want the new name to appear in the text field in the MainWindow but can't remember how to do this??

st question? Im using opt out port on the xfi ti. card and using digital li've on a windows 7 64 bit system,? I would like to know why when i use 5. or 7. and i check to make sure each speakear is working the rear speakers wont sound off but the sr and sl will in replace of the rear speakers. I did a test tone on my sony amp and the speaker are wired correctly becasue the rear speakers and the surrond? left and right sound off when they suppose too. Also when i try to click on? the sl and sr in the sound blaster control panel they dont work but if i click on the rear speakers in the control panel the sl and sr sound off. Do anyone know how i can fix this? So i would like to know why my sl and sr act like rears when they are not?
2nd question? How do i control the volume from my keyboard or from windows period when using opt out i was able to do so with my on board? sound max audio using spidf? Now i can only control the audio using the sony receiver.

I got a new macbook pro for cristmas and a few cds. After i tried to sync my ipod to itunes i put a symbol next to each song that i got from other cds saying that they were downloading but they werent. Also the cds i downloaded to my ipod for the first time didnt appear at all. Need help.

Help with RMI tutorial (and Eclipse)

I need a little help with RMI tutorial. I have all source files from tutorial downloaded, but I never did anything like this and don't know, how to run it. I somehow did Building a JAR File of Interface Classes from [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17409_01/javase/tutorial/rmi/compiling.html], but got stuck on simple HTTP server, I didn't understand, what to do.
Bonus question: is it possible to do those commands from Eclipse? How?

It seems that the example provided (in the link) requires a web serverNo it doesn't. It requires an HTTP server.
tomcat will be a better option which you can useThe Apache HTTP server might be more to the point.
But If you are new to RMI and need to understand the exact flow of RMI I think this will not be a better exercise to start withI agree. I would get it running without the codebase feature. This isn't as widely used as you might think, and anyway it is a deployment option not something you need to engage with much when developing.
@OP: ignore the HTTP stuff and the codebase feature and build 3 JAR files:
(a) the common stuff (remote interface, stubs if any, and any classes referecned by the remote interface)
(b) the server (the remote object itself and anything server-side it uses)
(c) the client.
The common JAR file should be deployed to both the server and the client, and both the other JARs should name it in their Class-Path entry in the manifest.

Time Machine can do that, if your Time Capsule is large enough (see #1 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions).
For backing-up multple HDs on a single Mac, see #32 in that same link.
If by "2 desktops" you mean 2 separate user accounts on the same Mac, see #26 there. If you mean 2 Macs, see #33.

Hello, everyone!
I hope that some kind soul here is able to help me. My sister-in-law asked me if I could help her re-edit a video that they made of a conference she gave because she didn't like the way some parts were edited. I oh-so-kindly (and perhaps stupidly) offered to help her out!
A little background: even though I studied audiovisual communications in college, I leaned (a LOT) towards the audio production part of it and, lately, photography, too. That means that I'm not very good at the whole creating-a-movie-in-iMovie thing, even though I know it's supposed to be easy.
So, here goes: I have a DVD from her which has the typical TS files for audio and video. I downloaded a program called MPEG Streamclip and then it said I needed to buy the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component so that I could rip the DVD my sister-in-law gave me. I bought the component.
I've converted, done small, 1-minute tests, of the DVD with MPEG Streamclip to DV and also to MP4 (just in case). I do it, then import them to iMovie 11. I don't edit anything at all, just a test to see how it looks, so I immediately send the project to iDVD to see how it looks. It DOES NOT look good.
Compared to the DVD she gave me, which looks all smooth (picture-wise), mine has a certain amount (NOT HUGE) of pixelation. I can tell especially because there are some slides that were added to her project, so I can see the pixelated parts around the edges of the letters.
The DVD she gave me does NOT look HD. In fact, it looks SD (4:3), so I don't believe it's that.
If anybody here knows about this, what am I doing wrong? Am I not ripping it correctly using MPEG Streamclip? Am I not making the iMovie 11 project right? Am I burning in the "wrong way"?
If it's the MPEG Streamclip ripping that I'm doing wrong, what are the settings I should be using? What format should I be using so that it is VERY iMovie-friendly?
I want the final video that I would edit to look exactly as the one she gave me. That IS possible, right?
For extra information, if needed, I am running a MacBook Pro, 13", i7 with 4 GB of RAM and am running OS 10.6.6. I've been a Mac user since the OS 9 days.

Z, thanks a lot!! Now things don't look pixelated and my test burn looks exactly like the dvd my sister-in-law gave me... except for ONE THING:
There are these graphics done in I-don't-know-what program with a cube transition. They look like when you do 3D cube transitions in virtual desktop, you know?
Anyway, HER dvd looks completely smooth when you see these transitions but MY dvd looks... well, not right. It looks a bit like the screen or the letters "tremble" or shake a bit. I hope you can understand what I'm saying.
I followed your advice to the letter and everything is perfect with the exception of those transitions (because after the transition passes and you see the slide with the writing, it looks completely smooth).
Do you know of something that I can do to help with this problem?

Little help with complex XML data as data provider for chart and adg

I've been trying to think through a problem and Im hoping for
a little help. Here's the scenario:
I have complex nested XML data that is wrapped by subsequent
groupings for efficiency, but I need to determine if each inner
item belongs in the data collection for view in a data grid and
charts.
I've posted an example at the bottom.
So the goal here is to first be able to select a single
inspector and then chart out their reports. I can get the data to
filter from the XMLListCollection using a filter on the first layer
(ie the name of the inspector) but then can't get a filter to go
deeper into the structure in order to determine if the individual
item should be contained inside the collection. In other words, I
want to filter by inspector, then time and then tag name in order
to be able to use this data as the basis for individual series
inside my advanced data grid and column chart.
I've made it work with creating a new collection and then
looping through each time there is a change to the original
collection and updating the new collection, but that just feels so
bloated and inefficient. The user is going to have some buttons to
allow them to change their view. I'm wondering if there is a
cleaner way to approach this? I even tried chaining filter
functions together, but that didn't work cause the collection is
reset whenever the .refresh() is called.
If anyone has experience in efficiently dealing with complex
XML for charting purposes and tabular display purposes, I would
greatly appreciate your assistance. I know I can get this to work
with a bunch of overhead, but I'm seeking something elegant.

Help with iMovie and importing HD camera

I have a Canon HD camera and can import it fine into iMovie. The problem is, I need the footage to be viewable and editable on a PC laptop and the .mov file only allows audio and not visual. Does anyone know if during import or after import if I can convert the file into something other than .mov?

The mytv.pvr uses MPEG-2 files which are not compatible with iMovie. They need to be converted to DV (didn't tell you that-did they..)
