Live discussion on "EJB Performance Verification"

Empirix, the maker of the Bean-test EJB testing tool, is offering a
free one hour web event presentation called "Enterprise JavaBeans
Performance Verification". This event will be held this Friday
November 16th at 2pm EST.
To register for this web event or learn about about web events being

Enterprise JavaBeans Performance Verification
Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs) are the central components in a
Java-based enterprise architecture solution. They contain the business
logic for an enterprise system and implement the communication between
the Web-tier and database tiers. EJBs typically are architected and
implemented for months before integrating with the Web-tier hardware
and software. Waiting to verify the scalability of the overall EJB
design and the efficient implementation until late in the software
project with a Web test tool is risky and may cause the entire
software project to fail.
Due to the important role EJBs play, performance testing of the EJB
architecture and implementation is critical during the entire design
cycle, the test cycle, application server tuning, and with any
hardware and software environment changes. Manual vs. automated EJB
component verification strategies will be discussed. During the
presentation, we will show how an example EJB will be scalability
tested using Bean-test, Empirix's automated EJB component test tool.
We will show how Bean-test automatically creates a test harness,
exercises an EJB under load, isolates a scalability problem, and
confirms an implemented correction to the scalability problem is
successful.

Note, there is a replay of this free web event on Monday, December
10th at 2pm EST for those who could not make it the first time.

    Hi Ged
    • Upgrade your computer to ‘N’ standard wireless hardware. If needed, buy a suitable N wireless adaptor from BT atwww.bt.com/nwireless
    • Keep your computer streamlined eg. by running our ‘PC Healthcheck’ app (part of BT’s Desktop Help software atwww.bt.com/desktophelp)
    • Reserve wireless for mobile devices, use Ethernet for main computer
    • Consider powerline adaptors for longer ranges

How soon after an exchange goes live with Infinity will BT allow other providers to sell Fibre To The Cabinet services from that exchange? My existing ISP is waiting to announce pricing details to me so I can make an informed choice. Thanks

Are we able to get fastpath on BT infinity,or will this ever be available ?
    7:12
    Martin S.:
i Neil. When Openreach enables an exchange for fibre, all internet service providers are able to use that service equally - so other ISPs should be able to offer their fibre products at the same time as BT Retail's Infinity product
    7:12
    KerryG:
Thanks for all the great questions coming through guys... answers being typed as we speak!
    7:13
    Charles:
Hi Paul, We don't support Fastpath on BT infinity at the moment, I'm afraid.
    7:13
    Comment From Helen
I've recently upgraded to Infinity 2. The ethernet connection is fine, but the wifi is constantly dropping. I have an old Homehub 2 , which we had for total broadband, will it work, so I can test the wifi.

    Hi all
    7:15
    Martin S.:
Neil - also its worth remembering that when an exchange is enabled for fibre, this does not automatically mean that all cabinets and lines connected to that exchange are also enabled, which might explain if your exchange has been enabled but your line is not appearing as eligible yet
    7:16
    Comment From Kevin
Whats the upgrade path from fttc to fttp does it mean a new contract or can we just expect it to migrate?
    7:17
    KerryG
Out of interest...are those on the chat existing Infinity customers or people thinking about it?
    7:18
    Charles
Hi Helen, your wireless should work ok on your Hub 2, though our more recent Hub 3 is better. If you're expereincing drop outs, it's usually a sign of radio interference. Have you any powerline adaptors you could use instead?
    7:18
    Comment From Neil Potter
Thanks Martin - Workmen recently dug up the path outside my driveway to install FTTC so I know it's there  My exchange goes live on 30th June - I can't wait!I have another question: I'm in the process of consolidating my TV, Telephone and Broadband into one bundle. The "BT Vision Unlimited" looks ideal.
    7:19
    Comment From Paul
Is there a estimated date that fast path will be available ?
    7:19
    Martin S.
Hi Kevin - Due to the structure of how fibre has been deployed, your line will either be FTTC or FTTP; there is no way to change your technology type. If you mean 'how do you move to the faster 80mb product (on FTTC)?', this can be done using the links on BT.com

Why are you fitting 2 separate items a modem and a wireless router? cant we have a combined unit, without the need for 2 adaptors and sockets its not the tidiest install
    7:21
    Comment From Chris
Regarding the Infinity installation, is it mandatory for the BT O/R Engineerer to have access to your PC?
    7:22
    Martin S.
Hi Chris - It is not mandatory, but we recommend allowing the engineer to show you on your own equipment your fantastic new speeds!
    7:22
    Comment From Simon
hi, im trying to setup port forwarding to my old draytek, as it has more powerful wirelelss capabaility then the bt homehub, is it possible
    7:23
    KerryG
Hi Simon - that sounds like a great question for the forum boards, the Draytek is not a BT product so we can go into detail here in this chat, but there will be lots of people who i'm sure can help in the forum.
    7:24
    Charles
Evening Kevin, for BT Infinity is based on thecurrent FTTC product offered by BT Openreach, which comprises the VDSL modem provided by Openreach and the Home Hub 3 provided by Retail. If/when Openreach move to supporting a single box solution, then we would look to moving to that. Openreach will shortly be trialling this.
    7:24
    Comment From Helen
I've already checked there's nothing interfering with the Hub.
    7:24
    Comment From Helen
I don't have a Hub3, both the one that is currently connected, and the old one I have in the box are Hub 2.
    7:25
    Comment From Chris
Yes, going from 3mb to an estimated 50mb+ is quite the upgrade, I would even be happy if it was merely a 10MB upgrade. - If I remember correctly FTTC is around(if not the same) price as standard broadband these days.
    7:26
    Charles
Helen - could you post your issue in the Bt Infinity forum and one of our mods will look into this for you.
    7:26
    Comment From Kevin
My install is planned for the 28th May my question is i have my master socket downstairs directly below the room i want my fttc modem installed is it possible to have the modem upstairs with the extension cable ?
    7:27
    Comment From Mike B
I have an istalation question. I understand that the modem for Infinity needs to be sited close to the BT phone socket. Am I right in thinking that the modem is then connected via a Cat 5/6 cable to the wireless router situated elsewhere in the house? Does this impact on the speed?
    7:27
    Comment From Helen
    Ok charles, I will do..
    7:28
    Comment From Neil Potter
On the subject of Powerline Adaptors (PA's) - I have a unique setup here at home whereby I would need to utilise 4 x PA's. Are there any known performance issues sharing data, experiencing latency or dropped packets from Desktop PC's all connected via PA's at the same time?
    7:28
    Martin S.
Kevin / Mike B: The engineer can use an extension cable up to 30m long to help position your equipment where you want it - this should not affect your speed.
    7:29
    Comment From Eric Simpson
I have bt broadband .. I am currently getting 3M download. I have two "estimates" from the BT site. One says I should get between 10-17 ... the other which does some sort of check/diagnostic (and appears to be the real thing) says I should get between 1-4. We are meant to get Infinity next month. How would that impact me?
    7:31
    Charles
Hi neil - good question. I've found from experience that powerline performance is very much dependent on the adaptor manufacturer and your home environment, specifically how 'clean' your electrical spectrun is. All I can say is give it a try. That said, i would always recommend an Ethernet connection for the fastest and most stable speeds.
    7:31
    Martin S.
Hi Eric. You can find your predicted BT Infinity speed (if it is available on your line) at bt.com/infinity and entering your number into the availability checker
    7:31
    Comment From Simon
hi, really I'm just asking a tech question - can the bt home hub port forward?
    7:32
    Comment From Eric Simpson
Does my question pop up only when it comes up the queue?
    7:33
    KerryG
Hi Eric - Yes, they will flow in as they get answered - it helps to make the chat easier to read as the Q & As flow in a reasonable order.
Great questions coming through... lots more to get through...been a quick 33 mins!
    7:33
    Charles
Hi simon - I'm assuming you're talking about the Hub 3 (our latest Hub). Yes, it does support port forwarding. You can set this up via the configuration menu in your Hub. See instructions in your Hub user guide for how to do this.

    7:35
    Comment From guilbo
Hello folks. I have a question. We often see on the Vision forum that users start having problems with their service on Infinity that they weren't having with ADSL. Do you know of anything that would cause this?
    7:35
    Martin S.
Hi Glynn, we are currently reviewing Fibre on Demand and have not yet announced any pricing or availability details.
    7:36

Nice one Paul  You'll be enjoying super fast speeds then too
    7:38
    Charles
HI guilbo - I'm not aware of any technical issues for Vision customer regrading to Infinity. We have hundreds of orders go through each week. If the problem persists, I would suggest customers contact the Infinity helpdesk.
    7:38
    Comment From Neil Potter
Thanks for your reply Charles - If I could ask, the PA's you supply with the current BT Vision boxes are manufactured by Simpler Networks - would I need to purchase identical PA's from the same manufacturer for extending my network? Will BT Retail sell me these as an additional extra? This will be my last question - I feel I have been fortunate to have two answered already
    7:39
    Martin S.
Hi Chris - The speeds estimated in the checker are a very good indication of actual speeds, but we can only know the exact speed once installed.
    7:39
    Comment From Eric Simpson
it says not available yet. I am just frustrated because I get faster speed from my little Android phone using it as a hotspot. If there is a bottleneck somewhere in the system, would fibre really make a difference
    7:41
    Comment From Kevin
I have been given the estimate of 59.4Mb download 20.0Mb upload will this be accurate?
    7:42
    Charles
Hi neil - yes you should always stick to the same model for all your PA's. I am pretty sure that additional Vision PA's can be bought from the BT Shop, and these should be fine. I have had 70mbps out of mine! seewww.bt.com/shop
    7:43
    Martin S.
Eric - Generally fibre can make a very significant difference to overall speeds, though individual increases can't be guaranteed. If / when it becomes available on your line, the checker will tell you how much of a difference it could make to you.
    7:43
    Comment From Chris
I'm assuming it's based on the length of copper from my house to the Green Cab. - The exchange is 2miles~ away from me and the said Cab. Will this also effect my speed?
    7:45
    Charles
Hi Kevin - our estinmates are as accurate as we can make them, but your actual speed will depend on your underlying phone line speed. We will only know your true speed once Infinity is live - it will then train to your optimal line speed, which should be approx as shown by your prediction.
    7:45
    KerryG
Glad to see you all keeping Charles and Martin busy here... keep the questions coming in, we're in the last 15 mins now...
    7:45
    Martin S.
Chris - Yes, your speed is primarily affected by the total amount of copper between you and the exchange. With FTTC fibre products, the old copper between the exchange and the cabinet is replaced by fibre, meaning less copper overall and faster speeds.

    Comment From Chris
The Cab is 500-600 metres away from me, and according this graph the the BT estimated speed is just right on that.
    7:47
    Charles
Hi Lewis - DLM will apply interleaving only if it detects an ustable line. It will not apply interleaving unless it is warranted.
    7:47
    Comment From Kevin
I guess when i get my infinity installed a lot of sites and links will still be on dsl or adsl+ or even slower and the speed my end wont improve the speed there end ie my speed will depend on the site i visit and there upload speed for my download speed?
    7:48
    Comment From Dom
I am moving to BT infinity, but I had to order my line and then wait for it to be activated before ordering infinity. Is this a technical issue or a process at BT issue?
    7:49
    Charles
Evening Dom. It's a process issue - we can only provide Infinity once a Retail line is up and running.
    7:49
    Comment From William Sinclair
Hi guys. I've upgraded to Infinity 2 with an estimated max download of 49.5 Mbps however my IP profile hasn't budged from the Infinity 1 value of ~30. Any thoughts?
    7:50

Thanks - this is a great service BT, keep it up!
    7:51
    Martin S.
Hi Kevin - yes, some websites that you visit may not be able to keep up with your superfast speeds! We aim to give you the best speeds at your end, but sadly there may sometimes be bottlenecks in the wider internet.
    7:51
    Charles
HI William - sorry for the delay in responding. Best thing to do is to reboot your Hub, then it should pick up the new speed. If not, contact the Infinity forum.

What would cause an unstable line?
    7:53
    KerryG
@wiesiek @ Martin (not S) thanks for your questions, but as they're individual issues we can't pick them up as part of this chat. Please post in the forum and we can help.
    7:53
    Comment From guilbo
Apologies in advance for my ignorance. If Infinity is installed does the 'phone continue to use copper all the way to the exchange or does this also go over fibre?
    7:54
    Charles
Hi lewis - the most common cause is interference on your phone line, in which case DLM will moderate your BB speed until the line stablises. There'smore lot of info on this at the Infinity FAQs on BT.com
    7:54
    Martin S.
Hi Guilbo - good question - yes, the phone still uses the copper.
    7:54

Will downloading from such as Xbox market place or apple store as examples max out the connection?

    7:21
    Sam:
Hi Dee, Yes, with a BT Vision subscription, all your on-demand viewing (including all Vision on-demand, all catch-up as well as players such as NowTV) is exempt from any broadband usage allowance. So you don't need to worry how much you watch.
    7:22
    Francesca Mahoney:
Hi Dee, thanks for your question. If you have had your BT Vision+ box for more than 12 months then you can get YouView for £49.
    7:24
    Comment From b-1
Any word on when manual padding will become available on YouView?
    7:25
    Francesca Mahoney:
Hi Dee again - just to add - when you take YouView for £49 you will recontract your TV and broadband subscriptions. Thanks!

    Comment From Guilbo
Some people have been experimenting with running a Vision and a YouView box simultaneously. Can they coexist? Also are their any plans for multiroom with YouView.
    7:28
    Nigel Elliott:
Thanks for the questions b-1 and Guilbo, your replies are on their way shortly.
    7:30
    Sam:
Hi Guilbo The use of two or more YouView/ Vision boxes on the same broadband line is not supported. If you plug in a YouView box from BT, your old BT Vision+ box may stop working and so you should watch the recordings on your old box before plugging in your new one. We hope to introduce a multiroom offering in 2013
    7:31
    Nigel Elliott:
Out of interest, do the people watching this chat already have YouView or are you thinking about signing up?

Hi me again OK so, if I sign up to YouView with BT, what happens when my contract with BT ends? Will the box still work?
    7:35
    Rob:
Hi b-1, Are you having problems with clipped recordings? YouView are looking at why this is sometimes happens and are working with broadcasters to improve the accuracy of their recording signals but they are not planning to add padding at the moment.
    7:37
    Comment From Guilbo
Thanks, Sam, that's interesting stuff. I don't have YouView (yet) but it is something that I will most likely move on to at some point. To follow on from a previous question, if I am in contract for Broadband, but out of contract for Vision, can I still get YouView for 49 squids by taking out a contract to Vision Player?
    7:38
    Nigel Elliott:
Just typing up your replies now guys
    7:39
    Sam:
Hi Guilbo, yes you can get the Box for £49 if you are in contract on your BB but out of contract on your Vision, taking the Youview box for £49 will recontract your Vision for another 12 months.
    7:39
    Francesca Mahoney:
    Hi Dee again
At the end of your contract the YouView box will still function but we hope you'll want to stay with your BT Vision subscription so you'll have access to all of our On Demand content and none of your YouView usage will count towards your broadband allowance.

Thanks folks. This is really helping to firm up on some things which up to now have been sketchy.

No problem Guilbo, if you have any other questions keep them coming!

Hi All, Did you hear that YouView have just launched a free iPhone app to let you set a recording on your box while you're on the move? It's not yet available for Android phones. If you have an iPhone 3GS or later, an iPod touch or iPad, it's well worth downloading.

    7:53
    Rob:
Hi Steph & Guilbo, The YouView app is just for setting recordings at the moment. It will get better over time I'm sure, but streaming to mobile devices won't be possible for a while I expect.

  • Servlets/JDBC vs. servlets/EJB performance comparison/benchmark

I have a PHB who believes that EJB has no ___performance___ benefit
against straightforward servlets/JSP/JDBC. Personally, I believe that
using EJB is more scalable instead of using servlets/JDBC with
    connection pooling.
However, I am at a lost on how to prove it. There is all the theory, but
I would appreciate it if anyone has benchmarks or comparison of
servlets/JSP/JDBC and servlets/JSP/EJB performance, assuming that they
were tasked to do the same thing ( e.g. performance the same SQL
statement, on the same set of tables, etc. ).
Or some guide on how to setup such a benchmark and prove it internally.
In other words, the PHB needs numbers, showing performance and
scalability. In particular, I would like this to be in WLS 6.0.
    Any help appreciated.

First off, whether you use servlets + JDBC or servlets + EJB, you'll
most likely spend much of your time in the database.
I would strongly suggest that you avoid the servlets + JDBC
architecture. If you want to do straight JDBC code, then it's
preferable to use a stateless session EJB between the presentation layer
    and the persistence layer.
So, you should definitely consider an architecture where you have:
servlets/jsp --> stateless session ejb --> JDBC code
Your servlet / jsp layer handles presentation.
The stateless session EJB layer abstracts the persistence layer and
    handles transaction demarcation.
Modularity is important here. There's no reason that your presentation
layer should be concerned with your persistence logic. Your application
might be re-used or later enhanced with an Entity EJB, or JCA Connector,
or a JMS queue providing the persistence layer.
Also, you will usually have web or graphic designers who are modifying
the web pages. Generally, they should not be exposed to transactions
    and jdbc code.
We optimize the RMI calls so they are just local method calls. The
stateless session ejb instances are pooled. You won't see much if any
    performance overhead.

  • Performance verification PXI 6608

    Hi,
I have a question about the performance verification of the PXI 6608.
This is what I was able to perceive from the manual.
    We have two modules:
CTR0: referenced to an external clock that has a minimum uncertainty of 0.75 ppb and generates a 400 s pulse to CRT1.
CTR1: is referenced to the internal 10 MHz OCXO and counts the number of cycles in that 400 s window: 400 * 10 MHz=4*10^9 . Any result different from this means an error.
Now to my understanding the performance verification is comparing the 10 MHz OCXO with the external clock. So by looking at the manual we have a uncertainty of 75ppb when the 10 MHz OCXO is on the slot 2: 0.75ppb * 10 MHz = +/- 0.75 Hz. BUT the performance verification assumes a tolerance of 0.1 Hz (10,000,000.1 < Hz < 9,999,999.9 Hz)
The calibration execute has the same approach as the performance verification,
Why does the PXI 6608 have a tolerance different from the manual?
Are we not testing the 10 MHz OCXO?

    Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion but my Qauestion is lillte bit different.
    1)  We have Equipment master in PM module.
    2) Calibration scenario already mapped in PM with maintainance oreder with "14" inpsection type.
    3) This is related to performance verification which is different from Calibration scenario.
    4) i dont understand that what we have to do in QA05?
    5) I want another inspection lot for "Performance verification" except "14".
    6) We have defined frequency with test paramater. e.g. HPLC have PV frequency 3 month, 6 month & 12 month with different test parameter.
    7) now i want that at each time point, i required auto generation of inpsetcion lot with defiened inspection plan in QA32. After testing will be completed, we will give UD and declare as this Equipment is Qaulified.
It is different from Calibration scenario.
Calibration actvity done by PM member but perfomance activity monitor by QA (QM) person.
Pls help me to design this scenario.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ms. Kruti Shah

  • Simple performance verification

I wish to do a simple performance verification on 6035E and 6034E cards as follows: Input a 2Vpp 1kHz square wave into each analog input on the BNC-2110. Can anyone tell me what tolerances I might allow when viewing the results on the monitor using the scope function?
    Thank you,
    Jim

Hello Jared, and thank you for replying.
The VIs that we use in the scope program to make measurements are:
    AI Acquire Waveform.vi
    Amplitude and Levels.vi
    Extract Single Tone.vi
We have also selected a +5 to -5 Volt range.
I must admit to being confused by NI's published specs on these boards, that is why I am hoping to have a more familiar spec like 2Vpp +/- xx and 1 kHz +/- xx.
    Thank you again,
    Jim
    Hello,
I am unfamiliar with Scope function that you mentioned. Maybe if you could shine a little more light on this I might be able to better help.
When you say tolerance of a measurement, I'm going to think you are looking to find some specifications for your device. You can find some of the published accuracy numbers accuracy for your devices in the E Series User Help file.
If I'm totally missing on what you really want to know, post back and I'll have a look.

  • EJB Performance Test

How do i test MY EJB performance from a Desktop client or JSP or Servlet, I don't have any testing tools

    Hi ,
If u don't have any tool as such , then you can try testing your EJBs from more than one macines at least.
I think, the real performance of any distributed components won't be really tested unless and until they are tested for many requests. This is specificaly true with the EJB transactions for dead-locks.
If u don't have any tool , then u can write a program that sends many requests in a loop , for JNDI look-ups .
    Hope this helps .

To earn the OCE credentials, I know that we need to take training from Oracle University. I am not an OCP currently.
Can I write the exam now and later take the course to meet the certification requirements? I know it is not the right way, but I can not pay $3000 for the course as of now. I can write the exam through self study. I want to check if I can take the exam now and later take the course.
Is it mandatory to take the course before taking the exam?
    Thanks,
naveen.Indeed you can take the exam now, and subsequently earn the 11g PERFTUNE OCE credential when you either:
    1) complete, submit and get verified the OU authorised 11g perftune course (possible but seems a little cart before horse).
    or
    2) Become 11g DBA OCP.

  • EJB to EJB Performance in same container

I'm very new to this technology so please excuse me if my question is naive.
Is RMI used between two EJB's that are located within the same container? If so, how significant is the performance overhead to do this?

WebLogic by default only uses RMI (and thus serialization) when calling from
one machine to another. You can force RMI to be used on one machine, but
performance degrades significantly per method invocation (going from direct
    invocation to RMI invocation).
Most web containers have to use RMI to talk to EJB containers. What I have
described is a WebLogic-specific optimization that is a big selling point
for them. Of course it is also the cause of the 5.1 classloader headaches,
but they have repeatedly said that those will be fixed for the next release.

  • Ejb performance issue

    Hi
As ejb1.1 makes call on network and not on local , it takes more time and hence less performance.
In the whole application which we developed , everything is on single box .
I am using jboss2.1 , is there any setting which could be done in ejb server with which it should start making calls in local and not on network
    regards
    prateek

JBoss is pretty smart and works out whether to make inter-bean calls via RMI or by reference for you. JBoss is a fast container so if you are finding your code too slow have a look at your design - that's where most of performance improvements can be made.
    Ian.

  • Local EJBs performance

    Hello!
We have an application that has numerous EJBs - all of them use remote interfaces,
even though the EJB clients reside within the same JVM. That prompts me to think
about using local interfaces for these EJBs if that comes with any performance
improvements. My question is, does Weblogic server (8.1) do any optimization to
recognize an EJB as located locally, even though it may be a remote call, and
not serialize and deserialize the objects involved?
    Thanks,
    Krish

If you want automatic handling of remote ejb calls as local calls without any change
to the code, then as far as I know you will need to deploy as an ear.
Deploying as an ear is quite simple given a set of ejbs - just put them all together
along with an application.xml file by using jar to create [app].ear and you'll
    be all set.

  • Discussing LiveCycle Designer performances

    Hi!
I tried Adobe LiveCycle Designer to build a 10 pages or so interactive dynamic form and I noticed some problems regarding performances when dynamically adding or removing subforms. My document is made so that on page 1 you have a question like "Do the client has this thing?", if you answer yes, then a subform appears (presence = "visible" instead of presence = "hidden" on the next page (because the subform does not allow page breaks) and then I change the current page to go to the next page. The effect of this is that I want the person to check YES, and then the form goes to the details subform. It works, but the form actually goes to the next page before the subform is shown, so I see question 2 for 1 or 2 seconds and then I see the details subform for question 1. Is there anything that can be done about this lag?
Thank you for any comments / solutions etc.
    Alexandre Soares

Yeah it is a good way to go around the problem, but still, designer is slow. I wanted to make sure nobody had a similar case where it was lightning fast. I'm not sure if it's a good tool for really "dynamic" forms. I tried it with a two pages sample form, hiding and showing a subform on the second page, and still it is not so fast... :(

    -Djbo.maxpoolsize=2000000
    -Djbo.initpoolsize= 1000
hoping this would reduce time...but it didnt.... please help

Is there something I did incorrectly? I even tried to set
    -Djbo.maxpoolsize=2000000
    -Djbo.initpoolsize= 1000
hoping this would reduce time...but it didnt.... please help

  • EJB Performance Concern

    Hi ALL
I am designing an application following EJB Command Pattern.
The Client (Swing Client) gets reference to the command server and passes the command object.
When execute method is called on this CommandObject, this will in turn call other session beans and gets it work done fills up the CommandObject (which in this case is also a data transfer object) returns to the client.
Since every time I need to lookup the session beans in commandobject execute method, will it slow down my system. or since the commandobject and other session beans are on the same machine is it ok.
Do i have to specify something to say that these session beans that my commandobject is accessing is local.
    Please let me know.
    Thanks
    Modha/-

    Hi modha,
your beans should have both local and remore interfaces and in the source of your command you should lookup the local home interface you need. Where must you specify the JNDI name of local/remote interface? This is a typical doployment time problem and each AS has its vendor specific tool to di it. For instance, weblogic has its builder by which you specify such information and it generates all the ejb-jar.xml, ... files. Why this is a typical doployment time (and not development time) problem? Because a developer could not know that he/she is binding one of his/her beans to a JNDI name already used by onother developer ... here the deployer comes ... In particular, is case of name collision the deployer can use ejb references with JNDI symbolic name.
    bye
