Live view vs design view

there is one item on my index.html (home) page that floats off to the right when in live view, but when in design view and when viewing live online through IE7 and firefox its fine. the url is www.lowcostloanmodification.com. if anyone can look at it and help me figure it out. my  fear is it is showing up live on some other browser that way. When i did a compatability check it seems fine in all browsers.

My apologies, I thought I was moving too fast. The item that is moving off to the right is the opt in box reprsented by this code. My friend helped me put this together and he created a shadow box using this code which even me as an amaetuer can tell is not correct. i asssume that is why its moving off to the right outside of the div id = wrap

  • Dreamweaver CC crashes when switching from code view to design view

    I am experiencing a recent problem with a file I am currently working. When I switch from code view to design view Dreamweaver crashes and requests a shut down. Other files seem to work without a problem. This particular files has 3 cascading EdgeAnimation CC files that are selected by media queries. I can test the page online without a problem but not in design or live view.

    Since your new page didn't crash, this leads me to believe that you have some critical errors and/or conflicts in your other page(s).

  • Access 2010 on 64 Bit Windows 7 Access "Not Responding" when changing from forms view to design view and back

    I am running
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Access 2010 32 bit
    Developing an application with a split FE BE with both files local but continue to have the message "Not Responding" when switching from forms view to design view and back as well as if I try to connect to a subform or object on the sub form.

    I have seen this behavior when the form's RecordSource is a complex query such as a crosstab or a query with several nested queries. To test if this is your case, remove the RecordSource and see if the form starts acting normal again.
    Then again, if the form has several subforms they might be slowing up the loading time.

  • Inserting DIVs in HTML view screws Design view but preview is fine

    RH8 HTML
    Hi all,
    Ive been working on a fix for a client, forcing a footer banner to the bottom of the screen, regardless of content in the page. Its nearly working fine, just a bit more tweaking, but one problem I am having.
    I am editing and adding <div> in HTML view, so that the positioning works.
    However, when I view the page in Design view, its all messed up, the content is really narrow and stretches down the page for a long time. However, when I preview, and generate the page it looks fine.
    Its an issue, because the client will be given the RH source files at the end of the project, and with the front end editor looking like this its not going to be weasy for the to edit it, let alone me finish with all the content.
    Has anyone come across this before? Is the Design viewer not the best at displaying div content ?
    The HTML where the <div> is set off before content is entered:
    <body>
    <div id="wrap">
        <div id="main">
            <div id="spacing">
    ***********all content in here************
              </div>
        </div>
    </div>
    </body>
    The CSS that the <div> is calling
    #wrap {

        border-left: 1px solid #9ea6ad;
    #main {

    Hi Nick
    What you are doing is working outside the boundaries of what RoboHelp natively does. If working with DIVs was part of that you wouldn't be forced to create them in the HTML view. As a result, I'm not surprised that the Design view isn't totally understanding how to deal with it.
    No workaround I can think of here. Sorry about that. Maybe someone else has something to offer. What I'm posting to ask is that you please report this to Adobe as a bug. Who knows, maybe they have some magickal scripting or something they can do to accommodate it. At minimum, they need to be aware of the issue so they can factor it into a future release. Use the Feature Request link in my sig.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Rearanging of my codes when moving from code view to design view

    I was wondering if there is a setting in Dreamweaver CC that can maintain the way I wrote my codes?
    This is what happening:
    I work in code view and write my codes. then I go check it out in design view, then I come back to my codes and Dreamweaver justify my codes... it's really annoying.  is there a way to preserve the design (the way I wrote my codes and it will stay as is no matter what)
    Side note: I am not talking about split view where it is expected that the code would move around with fluidity.  I am talking about full code view.  thanks

    No I don't mean that... but I think I figured it out.
    Here is what I think:  Working in design fluid grid layout causes additional codes to be added to my existing codes.  I have learned to start keeping a close eye on this because the names of my classes are starting to grow like crazy. I had tried to design something in fluid grid when I first got Dreamweaver (well because, that was one of a major selling point for me)  I soon realized that having little exprience in css to start with tripled how complicated it became to apply proper styling throughout a webpage so I went back to the basics and learned how to work with css first.  I am getting pretty good at it now and felt it was time to give Fuid grid another shot.  I had forgotten about how tricky it is to keep things tight in that environment.  So all it was; I am almost 99.9% sure of it was because when I went and changed some setting in the gui I didn't noticed that it tagged another name to my already name class.  So in a sense I am getting multiple classes tags for one item.  After a while the extra code inserted by Dreamweaver messes up all the code layout (that I have beed trying to keep tidy as much as I can)  lol.  Gosh! I am really starting to like Dreamweaver, but man O' man... I think I am really starting to hate using the graphical environment and starting to really understand what the old boys keeps on saying that it is best to hard code than trying to adjust things with the graphical environment.

  • Design view problem, live view fine

    I'm having a design view issue in Dreamweaver CS4. If you look at the images here:
    http://www.honestcontractors.net/temp/index.html
    You can see that design view (top image) cuts off the bottom CSS and the right area. But everything looks just fine in live view (lower image). Anyone have any ideas why this is going on?
    Thanks!

    Me too!  I also have upgraded from DW8 to CS5 and have this problem and it is driving me crazy.  I have run my pages through the W3C validator and they passed, so I know there is nothing wrong with my code.  But the XHTML pages are all displaying flush left in Design View, and intermittently so are some of the HTML pages.  They display fine in Live View, but of course, you can't do any editing in Live View.  This to me disables one of the key features of Dreamweaver since it was launched by Macromedia years ago -- the ability to switch seamlessly back and forth between Code View and Design View!  I've been working with it like this for several years and this has thrown a monkey wrench into my workflow and I'm really depressed.  The Adobe phone tech in India was trying to tell me it was my fault!  I showed him that the pages passed the W3C validator test and displays just fine in Firefox and Safari when uploaded to the server.
    Meanwhile, there are other bugs the Adobe phone tech basically threw up his hands about: browser preview works with Safari but not Firefox (it just doesn't open at all, nothing happens).  Also, sometimes after interacting with the server, the dialog box doesn't close on its own, so you go to open a file a minute or two later, and you are told that "Dreamweaver is currently interacting with a server."  Since the dialog box is hidden, this has also been driving me nuts for the past week until I realized what the cause was.
    I am SO frustrated right now.  This is a very, very expensive program, and it should be working better than DW8 not lacking key features.  Any other suggestions?  And what's with Adobe's current phone techs?  I've talked with 3 of them about this issue.  The first one spoke fractured English, the second one seemed competent to a point, the third one had decent language skills but I felt as if I had better reasoning skills and knew more than he did -- and he was the one who punted and said "Must be the fault of your design," even though he could see my screens and I showed him that the design passed validation.
    By the way Tech # 2 had me delete the configuration files and preferences and uninstall and reinstall DW CS5 to no avail.  And I'm running the latest update of Snow Leopard on a Mac Mini purchased in November 2009.

  • Live View worse than Design view, both bad, CSS & layout not applying

    Howdy,
    So I'm trying to do some work on the the page seen here:
    http://www.juniper.net/us/en/products-services/network-management/
    (I've attached a screenshot of it.)
    I  view the source for that page and copy it into a new blank page in code view using DW CS4.
    I copy all the relevant related files, as far as I know, including at least all the CSS and image files.
    I view the page in Design View, and some of the styles, primarily on the text are clearly being applied. The layout, though, is all wrong, with the navigation spread out over the top without any text styling or background images, tho a few other images do show up (one in the header area and some in the body, ones that should all be about in the same directory), and the content area pushed waay out the right.
    Live View is even worse, no styling at all on any of the text, and it doesn't seem to be able to locate any of the images, so it's all plain default HTML-styled text.
    This is a fresh installation of CS4.
    DW 8 seemed to have a similar problem rendering this layout in design view, but appplying a few design-time stylesheets, ones that should have been applying, but somehow weren't, seemed to do it, or at least pretty close. That same strategem did not seem to work here. Plus, doesn't the fact that the correct stylesheets show up as "related files" in the related files bar mean that DW knows about them and are/should be doing its level best to be applying them already?
    I'm not sure how much more I can share, but does anyone have any thoughts about how to make DW render correctly?

    So here's a little more info for a more complete picture of the problem...
    I do have access to the original CSS, JS, and image files...When I said that I copied all the files that I believe to be relevant, I mean that I downloaded all the files from the \assets and \shared directories from the content management system, which should contain all the CSS, JS, and image files that the page uses.
    When I view the file into which I saved the page's View Source on my testing server via an actual browser window, the page looks as expected.
    So, to sum up:
    All the support files and "related files" seem to be in place.
    When viewed through a browser fed by a web server, the file/page looks as expected. Checked in Firefox v3.5.3, IE 8, and Chrome v3.0.195.24.
    When viewed in Design View, the layout looks wonky, some of the styles seem not to be applied to the navigation/header area (notably, I guess, the positioning of the navigation and content area relative to the navigation, as well as some of the text styling on the navigation), and most if not all the styling (text formatting, layout) seems to be applying in the content area. The Related Files bar seems to list all the expected related files.
    When viewed in Live View, no styling is being applied anywhere. Live View is based on an integrated WebKIT browser, so it should render most closely to Chrome, right?
    I know little to nothing about relevant web server configuration. Could it be possible there's some web server configuration that's set up on Juniper's web server that Dreamweaver doesn't mimic, at least by default? Are there web server configuration settings for the integrated Live View "server" that I could check?

  • Can't see design view after changing connections file from localhost to a remote host & back again

    I was using localhost to test files before changing the connections document over to a remote host, since I couldn't get dreamweaver to connect to the remote host, I changed back to localhot. My files are all .php files. This is a dynamic site. After I changed my connection back to my local host my design view no longer works. It's competly grey with 3 small icons at the top on the left. I can view in live view and I can view in the browser. But no longer in design view after being able to for 6 months. The 3 icons are a hard drive case, a document, and a link symbol . When I click in code view the design view turns grey when I click in design view it turns white. I am using wamp for the localhost, Windows XP home, Dreamweaver CS5. Can someone please tell me how to go back to design view. This happens with any & all files including non dynamic .html files. Also having a problem connecting to my remote host. using godaddy, and they have tried with me for 2 hours to connect, I just keep getting password is incorrect. Thank you for any help, Stacey

    I would also recommend clearing the Site cache, which may help with the connection failure. To do so, choose Site > Advanced > Recreate Site Cache.
    After doing so, be sure to go back into your Site Setup, and make sure the FTP address, user name, and password are all correct. (Click the Test button in there to verify.)
    If that doesn't help with getting connected to your server, you might try an alternate FTP client (e.g. FileZilla) to just make sure you are entering the right connection information. It could be that GoDaddy is having some issue, or maybe you just mistyped something (I know I do this often when I type too fast).
    As for the issue with Design View, try clearing the Dreamweaver cache. Instructions are here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811
    You might also try toggling the location of Design View. That is, when in Split View, choose View > Design View On Left. Then, choose that menu option again to reset the location back to the right.
    Resetting the workspace might also be recommended. Window > Worksapce Layout > Reset 'name of current workspace'

  • Spry UI 1.7 slideshow images cascade down page in design view

    When I put in the Spry slideshow all the images go down the page in bullets.  It works fine in the browsers, so it is no problem.  But... it is SO annoying because I am trying to finish off the page and do some stuff under this slideshow but i can see there.  So it has messed me all up because I am not good at just hand coding the website... I have to do a little of both...  Others have kind of suggested to just live with it... but I just cant

    The only reliable view in DW is the Live View. Design view is OK for very simple layouts and documents. As soon as it becomes more complicated, then you cannot rely on design view.
    And even though Live View can give a better picture of what you are doing, you must always check your design in all of the target browsers.

  • Why can't I use design view?

    I recently loaded CS5 to manage a site developed witha previous version. The site includes php pages with a "require" function for a Fireworks-developed navigation bar. While I can do anything I want in code view, the design view will show only the navigation bar and no other design. All of the material is in the code and puts properly. How can I make the design view functional again?

    I don't think I have it set up at all. When I go to Live View and try to connect, I get a message saying:
    Not Found
    The requested URL /about-us.php was not found on this server.
    I have the remote server set up fine - I can put and get files with no problem. However, I'm not sure how to set up the testing server.
    Thank you for your help.

  • External/Remote Images no longer appear in Design View!

    Hi,
    First post here.
    Suddenly external/remote images in Dreamweaver CS3 no longer appear when viewed in Design View.
    All I get now is grey boxes!
    I have tried toggling 'Display External Files' on and off, made sure Cache is off (tried it with on too) and nothing seems to make a difference.
    If anyone could help please, it's so annoying
    Thanks,

    It just shows the grey boxes in place of where the images should be.

  • Design view goes blank [CS3]

    I usually work with split code + design view
    When working with certain files and make a change in code
    view(or in a linked .css), and then click in Design view, the
    Design view goes totally or partially blank. Either nothing appears
    at all, or the content appears up to some point, and the rest up to
    the end is blank.
    Once this happens, there is absolutely no way to make the
    'hidden' content visible. Tried to switch to another file, to
    select code in code view, to edit in code view or even in design
    view - no go. I have to close / open the file, and then it appears
    normally. But indeed I can't do this every minite, is there some
    solution known?
    There is no stuff with visibility set to hidden or alike, if
    the content is displayed - it's displayed correctly. Also looks OK
    in all major browsers.
    Thanks

    This often happens when you have added such garbage code that
    DW cannot
    figure out what to do with it. For example, adding a
    <body> or </body> tag
    in the middle of a page can do such things. Might that be
    what's happening
    for you?

  • Design view inop DW CS3

    Design view grayed out, inaccessable. The file has an HTML
    extenstion. Files I had previously been able to use Design View on,
    Design View no longer works. I suspect I inadvertantly turned it
    off, but how?

    Problem resolved by renaming file extention from HTML to HTM
    - Why in Wilbur's name this fixed the problem, I haven't a clue.
    Time to go put paint on my face and start dancing with
    twigs.

  • Flash Builder 4 - Beta / Design view sporadic at best

    Okay, so I have installed the beta, and running through the Catalyst / Flash BUilder 4 tutorial, all is well, unitl i try to get the imprted fxp file to consistently display in the design mode. Not only that, but switching from code view to design view will break it just about 95% of the time, and then it will not display the created items that the tutorial has you put on them (i.e. the databinds to the names, etc etc).
    Has anyone else experienced this? Other than a few little things like this, so far so good guys(ADOBE).
    Thanks,

    Please be aware that using a newer SDK with Flash Builder Beta's Design View may have unpredictable results. I can't say specifically since I don't know what version you tried and what your document contained, but... let's pretend for a second that the SDK changed something in a component - its name, its package, or any method or properties in it.  Design View was compiled with a specific version of the SDK, and would not know about that change, and so might not react very well to the document. Yes this is not ideal, but it's hard to avoid when the SDK is changing rapidly (at some point it will settle down, and this won't be an issue). We can look at ways to mitigate this.
    I have had less unpredicatable results with recent builds of the SDK the latest being build 7988- I basically update from the svn trunk every 2-3 days look through the changes run the checkintests just to make sure all is ok then see what happens to be small testbed apps, I have been doing this for several months. I don't mind the IDE not dealing with the changes as long as it tells me why it can't. But the code should not break the IDE. Also i'm getting a little confused as some of the responses to some issues (not the design mode one) in this forum have suggested seeing what happens with updated SDK's.
    Anyway I have reverted everything back to a standard FB4 install and the first thing that happened yet another new flaw in design mode rears its head, no errors but this time a visually definable issue. The component appears as a 1 dimension line in the top left hand corner of the design editor window, not even on the design view working canvas. Attached is a screen shot and the associated code that caused it. Please note the IDE didn't draw the big red ring around the visual glitch so thats one less bug to worry about.
