Livecache 7.7 patch - backups needed

Hello community,
we are planning a Livecache 7.7 patching from version 7.7.04.25 to version 7.7.04.32 on Unix as described in SAP note 998966
I want to be able to roll back the activity to the actual kernel version as I usually do in SAP R/3 environment.
In the case of SAP kernel I make a simple backup of directory /sapmnt/<SID>/exe
What do I need to backup in Livecache? Is it correct and enough to backup the following directories?
/sapdb/<SID>/db
/sapdb/programs
Regards,
Valerio

No it isn't.
You have to have the old installation set to be able to resinstall the older version.
In case you need to "rollback" this upgrade, you will need to uninstall the newer version via SDBUNINST/SDBSETUP and reinstall the older version via SDBINST/SDBSETUP again.
Copying the binaries back and forth will only lead to registration inconsistencies - don't go down that road.

    Hi,
    as for all liveCache issues, I'd have to ask you too to open an OSS message on queue BC-DB-LVC.
    A thing you could try:
    try to read using 'dd' from your devices. If 'dd' can't read from the devspaces, then you've got a misconfiguration somewhere, i.e. an operating system issue and not a liveCache issue. In that case, we (BC-DB-LVC) wouldn't be responsible for the error.
    The 'dd' command could look like:
    dd if=/dev/vx/rdsk/azdevdg/lvlzddisk1 of=<filename> <blocksize>

  • Newbie: how to find wich patches are needed?

    I have a number or Oracle DB's (previously installed by someone) from 10.1 to 11.1.
    I would like to patch some of them if needed, but I don't know how to find patches are needed?
    tnx

    Hi,
    The following methods will help to know what are the patches installed at your ORACLE HOME
    1) opatch lsinv -bugs_fixed
    This option will give description of installed patches as below, but the opatch version should be higher than
    10.2.0.4.5 for version 10.2 ORACLE_HOMEs
    $ opatch lsinv -bugs_fixed
    8576156 8833280 Tue Feb 09 16:54:18 MST 2010 DATABASE PSU 10.2.0.4.3 (INCLUDES CPUJUL2009)
    8833280 8833280 Tue Feb 09 16:54:18 MST 2010 DATABASE PSU 10.2.0.4.4 (INCLUDES CPUOCT2009)
    2) select substr(action_time,1,30) action_time,
    substr(id,1,10) id,
    substr(action,1,10) action,
    substr(version,1,8) version,
    substr(BUNDLE_SERIES,1,6) bundle,
    substr(comments,1,20) comments
    from registry$history;
    This option will work when post installation has been performed for that patch

  • Which patch i need to install

    Hi all,
    I have installed form 6i on my machine
    I want to know which patch i need to install..... where can i find that patch???
    Thanks

    Are you posting this question for one of your coworkers? What do you mean, "... +which patch i *need* to install+ ..."? Only you can determine if there is a need for a patchset.
    If you are not experiencing any problems with this very obsolete version then you don't need to install any patches. If however, you are experiencing problems then your only option would be to install one of the last patches which was Patch 17 or Patch 18 (which was intended for EBiz). These patches are only available for customers possessing current accounts to MyOracleSupport.
    If you do have a valid Support contract and do have access to MOS, here is some information you should review:
    Note: 228666.1 ; Product Obsolescence Desupport Notice
    Patch 17 (ID 4183804)
    Patch 18 (ID 4948577)

  • Applying Patch - Guidance needed

    Below are my db & OS versions:
    DB- 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0
    OS- AIX 6.1
    I have not done patching before. My client has asked me to apply patch 13004894 on one of the databases.
    Presently I don’t have access to metalink as I am new to the team. But very soon I will have it. So till then can you please help me with below –
    Step by step document to apply patch on 11.2.0.2.0 (Would be great if it is for particularly patch# 13004894  )
    Any pre-checks/validation to be done before patching?
    Any post patching steps to perform?
    I would appreciate if you can provide any other info also which will be helpful for a beginner like me.
    Thanks in advance!

    Will the readme file contain all the steps? or do I have to do anything apart from that?
    Also how will I know if the patch suggested by client is correct patch for my current database version along with patches already installed? (I mean it should not cause any conflict with current db version & patches)
    Should I need to take backup of anything like database or ORACLE_HOME before pstarting patching?
    Thanks in advance
    Every patch comes with complete instructions for applying that specific patch.
    Taking a backup of the database is always a good idea.  Whether or not it is needed for a specific patch will be addressed in the README.txt that comes with said patch.

  • 10.2.0.3 on solaris 9(Sparc 64 bit), patch 5257399 needed or not?

    We are going to install oracle 10.2.0.3 on a Solaris 9 (Sparc 64 bit) box. According to Note 406472.1, Mandatory Patch 5752399 is needed for 10.2.0.3 on Solaris 64-bit and Filesystems Managed By Veritas or Solstice Disk Suite software. Our system is not on SAN, only local disks, so I'm sure we don't use veritas file system. But I'm not sure if we still use Solstice Disk Suite software. Sun said that in Solaris 9, Solstice Disk Suite is renamed to Solaris volume manager and it is bundled in Solaris 9. Does this mean Solaris 9 is using Solstice Disk Suite by default and we have to apply patch 5752399?
    How can I verify which file manager we are using? (Our sys adm is not quite sure).
    If we apply the patch no matter we really need it or not, what impact to the system?
    Please advise. Thanks!

    I found by issue "mount -v" that our disk slices are
    UFS type. So we don't need apply patch 5257399,
    right? Please confirm. Thanks!!!For your information, you are asking the user community to confirm, not Oracle. Some (many?) of us are not employed by Oracle.
    Therefore, the only answers you can get are from 'friends'. Nothing would be official and Oracle (and Oracle Support) would not be legally responsible.
    Your safest bet would be to escalate the request wityh Oracle Support.

  • SCCM report says 17 patches are needed, but they are not needed

    Another weird one. I've had this before with just 1 patch needed but never figured it out. But now I have a Server 2012 box (SCCM 2012 R2 CU4) that report "Compliance 5 - Specific computer" says need 17 patches. Software Center on the box says
    none are needed. Patches are downloaded and installing on other computers. In Windows Update\View Update History, it says all 17 patches successfully installed ON THE SAME DAY. So I think something happened with the patch run on that day and Software Center
    and Update History say they finished but somewhere in the db it thinks they haven't. Cache purges, reboots, and running all actions on the actions tab haven't helped.
    Patches that have come up as needed after that day install and report as completed just fine.
    Any ideas?
    Ben JohnsonWY

    why that works: what can happen is that occasionally, somewhere between a client and the MP, the MP processing, and processing into the database, statemessages might become corrupt or somehow else 'lost'.  normally not a big deal; but for software updates
    to get a client to re-report "current" state of all software updates currently known about at the client, that little snippet needs to be re-run.
    In my environment about 2x a year I have all my clients re-submit their software updates state (enable a deployment for a while, then disable it).  I don't know how many clients "might be" in a misreporting state, but it gives me the warm
    fuzzy that I'm doing my best to reduce the possibility that computers might be listing they are missing an update, when they aren't.
    Standardize. Simplify. Automate.

  • Is Patch 5017052 needed when running Forms 10.1.2.3?

    Hello - we've been running on Forms 10.1.2.02 (Linux apps server, IE6 / IE7, Windows XP, JInitiator 1.3.1.22) for a couple of years, and when we first upgraded, we applied patch 5017052, which makes changes to the base htm files to avoid a potential problem with having to click on the applet to activate. We're about to upgrade to 10.1.2.3 (will also move to Sun JPI 1.6 as well), I'm just wondering if I need to apply the same patch again on our new apps server. The changes it made to the htm files don't seem to be present in the htm files that come with 10.1.2.3, I thought this patch might have been embedded in by now. Is it no longer relevant..?
    Thanks in advance,
    James

    The changes provided in 5017052 are included automatically in all versions newer than 10.1.2.0.2. So, no action is required on your part.

  • ICloud Backups need More Control

    Although I'm being plagued by the dreaded Invalid SIM problem, there's one other issue I find to be almost as annoying: the completely automatic iCloud Backups.
    Don't get me wrong, I love the iCloud concept... but one thing is for the iPhone to backup during the night at home; it's a completely different thing for it to hog all my office network during the day.
    We really need an option to limit iCloud backups to a specific time of the day - to prevent it from triggering up whenever it feels like it.
    And even possibly, to limit it to some specific WiFi hotspots - I'm imagining if you're off for a weekend at an hotel with paid WiFi, and as you go to sleep your iPhone will begin uploading GB of new photos to it... and leaving with an headache the next morning when its time to pay.
    Apple has gone so far off-base offering so many options to the notification session (but still not allowing you to fine tune just how many you want to see), I don't think adding these couple of things to the iCloud backup section would mess it any more than that - and prove to be more useful.

    Submit your feedback directly to Apple:

    Best of luck.

  • IBP 4.0 FP1 Patch 2 - Need more info on new features in Supply Planning

    Hi All,
    I was reading the SAP help and some of the new features are not very clear to me, if you have clarity around it please read and help me to get more clarity.
    As per SAP Help,The following features are now available in IBP for supply:
    Separate lead time units of measure can be defined for use in multiple planning areas depending on different time granularities.
    My Query - Where do we define it? I do not see any additional attribute in the MDT where lead time is present but don't see any attribute to define lead time units or any other different settings in the planning area so how can we define this?
    Static periods of supply are taken into account as input for the inventory target, with projected periods of coverage provided as output.
    My Query - What exactly has changed and which are the new key figures here to support this? I could not understand this from reading the above text.
    Independent demand is taken into account as input at the product location, in addition to the distribution demand from other nodes and customer demand.
    The optimizer algorithm supports the Non-Delivery Cost Rate key figure as input for the independent demand at the product location.
    My Query - A new key figure "INDEPENDENTDEMAND" is available now @PERPRODLOC so first point is very clear but second point is very confusing to me as "Non delivery cost rate" is only defined @PERPRODCUST so how we will define the non delivery cost rate for independent demand which is at different planning level and if we are not able to define it how optimizer algorithm will support it? Ideally it needs to be at same level like consensus demand and Non delivery cost rate both @PERPRODCUST Level.
    Thanks
    Girish

    Hi Mark,
    While I'm not in your list of people to respond I figure I give it a go anyways :-)
    The list of features you mentioned is a nice summary. One of the main release themes is data quality as you noticed. Apart from changes to the name&address functionality we also added the advanced matching and merging into this release. So you can use custom rules to match and merge data. This also allows you to do things like householding for customer data records. In essence we have now completed the integration of Pure*Integrate into Warehouse Builder.
    The mapping debugger is another big thing. This allow you to walk through your mappings and see in detail what happes to the data.
    The metadata change management is now in the UI. THis means there is now object level version management in Warehouse Builder via the UI. You can also compare versions and get a difference report.
    As you mentioned there are a number of smaller and bigger features next to this. The idea for this release is to make OWB a top Data Quality product and allow you to do your ETL and DQ in one tool. Apart from that we have added usability features (debugger, N&A wizard) and we have added some features to solve specific problems.
    Especially the corelated commit is interesting in that respect. You can now, in a map with multiple targets control the commit, and choose to either commit all targets or none, or commit them individually (current behavior).
    As usual there is a lot more, as this is indeed a major release. Keep an eye on OTN for more collateral regarding the new features. We are currently updating the site to reflect the new stuff.
    On the OLAP patch, both 9.0.4 and 9.2 will work equally well with the OLAP patch (when it is available). In 9.2 we added some small thing around composites. More about that when there is an OLAP patch to test this one on in a customer site.
    I hope this answered the question, if not let me know.

  • RMAN backups need info about available options

    Hi All
    In our new 10.2.0.3 RAC environment on windows 2003 os we have our database configured on ASM and oracle home placed on OCFS. As it is a prod environment, we do not have the comfort to shutdown the cold copy of the database and so we're running the daily rman full db backup .. however, in case of an event where the datafiles need a restore.. I am not sure if the rman backup i take will be sufficient.. I issue the below command to take the full database backup and I get a compressed back up set..
    RMAN> backup up device type disk format 'd:\database\%U' database;
    I do have the FRA configured on ASM DG but i see that this DG is almost free. could any please advice what are the options available for me to take the entire database backup (including files) which can help me restore the datafiles if necessary.. my database is about 70GB in size but is very critical for organisations functioning..
    thanks!
    Sarat.

    Thanks for the quick reply steve and werner...
    Because we are doing a daily Full database backup (compressed) I did not include the archive logs to be backed up. In our environment, we keep moving arc logs to another archive location regularly. and once back up is complete and successful we clean up all archives using another job as we no longer would need them in case if we need to restore from the RMAN backup.. and as we retain all archives between one rman bkp and the next one.. we are also not backing up these along with the database.. Is this dangerous? I thought we will always have one database copy (compressed) available on disk and can help us restore from it if required.. But my major concern is what if a datafile is accidentally deleted/ disk fails on ASM. In this case.. the RMAN backup will not be sufficient because if cannot create the physical structure.. in such a case, will configuring the FRA it self be sufficient? Do I need to perform any additional steps to ensure the physical structure can also be restored? Please advice..
    rman is configured to backup control file and sp file and my exact script looks like below .. and we run it every day
    crosscheck backup;
    crosscheck backup of controlfile;
    delete force noprompt obsolete;
    delete backup;
    backup device type disk format 'D:\oracle\DBBackUp\%U' database;
    exit;

  • Restore one full backup(need to move), 1 differential backup,2 transaction log backup

    Is following script correct? I don't need to add "move" when do restore differential, log later. Correct?
    RESTORE DATABASE AdventureWorks FROM DISK = 'C:\AdventureWorks.BAK'

    MOVE
    'Adventureworks_DB'

    WITH NORECOVERY
    GO
    RESTORE LOG AdventureWorks FROM DISK = 'C:\AdventureWorks2.TRN'
    WITH RECOVERY
    GO

    Yes, that would be fine. It will work without move filename as well. You can add replace parameter incase.
    Also, make sure to check the mentioned path they must exist and SQL is able to access
    Before running the restore run below to check the backup file path:
    Corrected the script with needed only once in full backup restore
    Restore filelistonly from disk= 'C:\AdventureWorks.BAK'
    RESTORE DATABASE AdventureWorks FROM DISK = 'C:\AdventureWorks.BAK'
    WITH MOVE'Adventureworks_DB'TO'C:\test\Adventureworks.mdf',
    MOVE'AdventureWorks_Log'TO'C:\Adventureworks_Log.ldf',
    NORECOVERY, replace
    GO
    RESTORE DATABASE AdventureWorks FROM DISK = 'C:\AdventureWorks.DIF'
    WITH NORECOVERY, replace

    RESTORE LOG AdventureWorks FROM DISK = 'C:\AdventureWorks.TRN'

  • HELP...new computer, new library, NO BACKUP need detailed instructions

    Hello all,
    I just built my new PC and put win 7 on it the other day. I downloaded the newest itunes and got all my music and such on there, great.
    Now the iphone. I just did a backup of it in its current state but there is not one from my old computer. I understand losing music and photos and even having to get apps again, fine, no problem. Its my contacts I am concerned with.
    I tried the program Backup!Contacts but when it goes to send the vcard file it doenst send me the file, its messed up, so I dont have a backup of my contacts on ANYTHING and dont want to lose them.
    I currently only have Yahoo as my email. I do not have a mail client on my computer (outlook does not come with office 2007 home and student).
    Question and help needed, how do I keep my contacts if it syncs to a new library? I understand that like I said, losing music etc will happen, but I cant lose the contacts.
    On my previous computer, it deleted contacts on 3 seperate occasions when trying to sync, I did the merge and all that stuff and it all resulted in the same problem. So now what do I do? How do I keep my contacts? How do I get my contacts off my phone once its back on the new library system? I need detailed instructions, as I said before, when I tried this before it just simply delted everything. I am extremely worried that it will happen again. I do not have apple support as I forgot to register for the 2nd year of support before it ran out. I will at some point have to have them backed up because I will be getting a new phone in August or when the newest versions come out since I will be out of contract and get a good deal.
    Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. I really need it, Im not an itunes guy except for music, I just dont get the syncing and it confuses me really bad.

    Contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the sync process. This link provides the data included with your iPhone's backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer. With Windoze, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007 along with syncing calendar events, or with Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only.
    When syncing iTunes content and transferring photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from your iPhone first, but no other data is touched on your iPhone - especially if you aren't syncing contacts with a supported application on your computer. Your iPhone is not completely erased of all data and certainly not any iPhone settings when transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer.
    Before syncing contacts with Windows Contacts, enter one contact in Windows Contacts. Make this contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync with Windows Contacts, which you want to select.
