LMS 4.2 Disk Space issue

Hi
I am getting alerts showing that I am out of disk space in the /var directory on my LMS 4.2.1 server.  The offending file seems to be a
tmp_000000 in /var/adm/CSCOpx/files/.SQLAnywhere/upmdbengine/tmp which is > 50Gb in size.  Can anyone tell me :
a) why has this file got to this size (and how do I stop it happening again)
b) Can I safely delete this file.
Thanks

The corresponding temporary file is created on database server startup and it will be deleted  on shutdown. The file will hold the query transactions that happened with the corresponding database while the database is running and used when there is not enough cache memory available for executing the queries.
You can delete this file after stopping LMS daemon.
Most probably the reason behind this would be UPM is polling more MIB objects than supported on your server, which is doing a lot of transactions on DB.
As a try to address this issue, you can try to re-initialize the UPM database, which resets the DB to like a fresh installed server. All custom settings like templates and pollers will be removed and UPM/Performace module will be like Factory reset.
If not details are needed from it, you can re-initialize using following commands :
Stop the LMS severices :
/etc/init.d/dmgt stop
/opt/CSCOpx/bin/dbRestoreOrig.pl dsn=upm dmprefix=UPM
Start the service:
/etc/init.d/dmgt start
The root cause of this file growing is unknown yet and have not been seen on many installtions. It is very rare. Open a TAC case to get it troubleshooted as LMS Development team would be involved to troubleshoot Database transaction file. But mostly their one of the first try is the re-init of DB.
-Thanks

  • Disk Space Issues

Does anyone out there have best practice insights on how to deal with disk space issues on the database server?  Can we copy the files onto different drives and then rename the drives?  Will everything with the BPC application sync up again?
Is there anything tricky in dealing with this issue?
    Thank you,
    Grant

    Hi Grant,
I once had to move the SQL database files from one drive to another. The only thing that I did was 'Detach the SQL database' in Enterprise Manager, move the files and 'Attach these files again. Everything else was automatically changed.
You can attach/detach using sql statements or using the graphicall user interface from SQL.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 DP - Reserve Disk Space issue

    Hi Team,
Issue with SCCM 2012 DP. Reserve Disk space issue.
During DP installation I have given 100000 MB as Reserve disk space, now my DP Share drive reached below 97 GB of free space, now I’m unable to distribute packages to the DP.
Below is the error Message in Smsdpprov.log
Failed to find space for 105874160 bytes.
    Solution tried:
Tried changing the reserve disk space value in Registry (HKLM- Software – Microsoft – SMS- DP- ReservedDiskSpace),
But the value is getting auto reset to old value after a restart.
Is there any way where I could change the Reserve disk space without reinstalling the DP Role?

    Hi,
    >>Is there any way where I could change the Reserve disk space without reinstalling the DP Role?
We need to edit the reserved free space in SQL database. But this is not supported by Microsoft.
    Steps:
    1) Run SQL query:
    select SCR.ID, SCR.Name,SC.NalPath, SCR.Value3 from sc_sysresuse_property SCR join sc_sysresuse SC on SCR.SysResUseID = SC.ID where SCR.name = 'MinFreeSpace' and SC.NALPath like '%<DP_Name>%' and SC.RoleTypeID = 3
Note: you need to replace the <DP_Name> with your actual remote DP server name.
    2) Use the returned ID in step 1). Run the below query to update the 'MinFreeSpace' value.
update sc_sysresuse_property set value3 = 'set desired value in MB' where name = 'MinFreeSpace' and ID = 'ID retained in previous select query'
    Example:
    update sc_sysresuse_property set value3 =20480  where name = 'MinFreeSpace' and ID = 75340198761234567
    3) In the next package content update cycle, the reserveddiskspace registry value (under HKLM\software\Microsoft\SMS\DP) will be changed
    to 20480.
Or you can restart the SMS_SITE_Component_Manager service on SCCM site server
to update the “reserved free space” value on remote DP.

  • PBG4 with 'missing / dissapearing' disk space issue

My wife's powerbook appears to have 'missing' hard disk space and I can't figure out why. Here is the information from System Profiler about her only hard drive in the computer.
    Capacity: 74.41 GB
    Available: 6.91 GB
    Writable: Yes
    File System: Journaled HFS+
The issue is that when I click on her hard drive icon in the Finder view I see 4 items:
    - Applications (4.92 GB)
    - Library (2.45 GB)
    - System (1.07 GB)
    - Users (24.17 GB)
This totals 32.61 GB of used disk space
The hard drive is 74.41 GB
So I should have 41.80 GB of free space
Why do I only have 6.91 GB?
Where is the other 34.89 GB?
I have run disk utilities and repaired permissions. I have also run fsck by booting while holding apple-S. I've looked at the logs in /var/logs and nothing is bigger than 2MB.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

We upgraded the OS to 10.5 and the issue is gone.

  • HP Stream 13 - Disk Space Issue

I've had this laptop for about 2 months now. I just decided I wanted to take advantage of the one year subscription of Office 365. However, every time I try to download it it says that the disk is full. I don't have ANY files on this laptop nor do I have that many apps. I do have skype, itunes, and a few other things downloaded but that is about it. I don't know what else I'm supposed to do considering I already don't have much on here. I'm not even able to view pictures on my Dropbox  because of the space issue or even use skype at times because "the disk is full".

  • Annoying Disk space issue in OS Lion!

    Hi everyone,
I dont know why after upgrading to OS Lion from Snow Leopard, my Mac keeps alerting me "There is no start-up disk space". No matter how much I try to delete, the free disk space does not go up (sometime, it even went down on free disc space). The available space is about 500 MB at the moment. What do I need to do now? I have tried entering a command into Termino to turn the Timemachine off (got it from someone having the same issue in this forum) but it does not seem to work.
The computer is getting slow and laggy now, which is really annoying. Before, I used to have at least 10Gb free, not sure why it's nearly zero now.
    Thanks everyone,

Lion. And if it created a Recovery partiton, that requires 13GB.
20% free space is more accurate and reasonable. Below that, free space is also too highly fragmented to operate properly and be able to save changes, create files.
Install Lion again on a new external drive if you don't have a recovery partition now, or just to test with .
Boot Command-R Recovery Mode and use Disk Utility to repair your drive, restore your system to a backup, inspect the health of your drive partitions.
OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery
Check partition table health in Lion's Disk Utility
Manage all partitions with Disk Utility in OS X

you might also want to not use your system until it is healthy, but then you may want to unhide your ~/Library and use Lion Cache Cleaner to remove and rebuild cache from browsers and others.
    - a clean install insures fewer problems and still will import or migrate your old system files back.

  • Need help with Low disk space issue and blue screen

Hi Everyone, just seen a message stating a low disk space on my Mac pro bought last November and tried plugging in an external hard drive to remove some pictures to free up some space but it seems that the computer did not have enough space left to start up and run the hard drive. I then tried to restart and ended up with a blue screen and have no knowledge now how to fix this problem. I phoned support but they say I have no technical support left but do have warranty and I would need to either try with the community here or take the unit to an apple store for an appointment. The store is an 1 and 1/2 from me and I really want o see if there is another fix that could allow me to start again then remove some files and then add external drive to remove more. I was blown away at the low amount of storage.....looked for the icloud option last night to upload there as i was told about this by a UK client of mine and now see it is not up and running. Any advice or help by the communtiy would be greatly appreciated as this is my business and travelling laptop. Cheers, Dean <")))><

    Great to hear Dean, thanks!
Further notes: OSX needs about 15% or 10GB Free space minimum, but will run mucch faster/safer with 30-40% or 50GB of Free Space... Free Space is no longer ours to use.
Another tool to help clear up assorted things is Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • IMovie rendering hard disk space issue

    Hi,
I have a 2.33GHz Mac Book Pro and a seagate 500GB firewire drive. All my imported video clips are located on the external drive. I have created the project on the external drive as well. My inbuilt hard disk is loaded up with music snaps and other office data.. and i have successfully created a imovie project. i have about 20 GB of free space and the project is 2.5 hours long. i am not able to render the movie and send it to iDVD as my hard disk runs out of space. is there any way that the rendering can be done on the external drive as well?

    Karthik Nayak wrote:

    no.
temp-files are always stored on the same drive/partition where the OS-in-use is located.
you could install a MacOs on your ext. HDD and launch from there..
or, perhaps easier to realize, de-locate your Libs (iPhoto, iTunes) to an ext. HDD to have more free disk space on your internal ... read the support pages how to accomplish that!

  • Disk space issue with log files

I noticed that I was running out of disk space, so I downloaded OmniDiskSweeper and ran it. Turns out that the main culprit is log files. They are located in /private/var/log/asl. However, OmniDiskSweeper won't let me delete them (it doesn't give an error message or anything--it just won't delete the files). What are these .asl files and how can I delete them? I cannot see them when I open up the Finder, so I assume they are hidden. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Those log files are created by the "Apple System Log" process. The first thing I'd do is to use the Console utility to examine what's in them to see if there's anything obvious that should be fixed. In Console, open the "/var/log" item on the left, open the "asl" item, then select the first item in the list. You'll see a lot of gibberish, but you'll also see some text.
To navigate to those files in the Finder, use the menu item Go -> Go to Folder and type "/var/log/asl" (without the quotes) in the field, and click "Go".

  • Weird Disk Space Issues.

    HI there -
I have a Mac OSx Version 10.5.  It has built-in 297GB of disk space and it is telling me that 295GB are being used.  It is obviously running quite slow because of this and certain programs arent even working due to disk space error messages.  I know this isnt right so I have done the following:
Run disk utility and repair disk permissions
    Installed and run AppleJack
Installed and run OmniDisk Sweeper, Grand Perspective, Jdiskreport and What Size - all four of these programs show only 148GB used
I have deleted the trash bin
I have emptied the cache on both Safari and Firefox (as well as through AppleJack)
Frankly, I just dont know what else to do.  Please help - I am not very computer literate so if you are going to tell me UNIX things, please speak in laymens.  Thank you kindly!

Thats a HDD problem for sure.
I had that problem a couple of months ago,
I have a SATA HDD 1Tb disk and it kept telling me I only had like 7Gb left, when I was certain I had well over 500Gb.
You will need your installation DISK:
    1- Reboot
2- When you hear the boot sound and see the white screen, press ALT continuously until you see your mouse pointer.
3- Your HD will come up (DONT CHOOSE IT , YET)
4- Insert your Installation CD and wait for it to load
5- When it appears, click it.
6- proceed to the installation menu, and choose Utilities => Disk Utility
7- Select your disk and Verify/Repair(if needed)
8- Reboot and choose your HD.
    9- GoodLuck
10- if it doesnt work, report back

  • Free disk space issue after iOS5

I have an iPad 1 16GB and after I updated to iOS5 the free disc space reduced so that now I have only 3GB free. 10,6GB is shown as "other". Can anybody tell me what this is and how I can increase the free disk space?

It shouldn't be that large unless, for example, you've got lots of videos in third-party video apps (or other third-party apps with large content) - it's usually caused by corrupt files. The only way the I know of reducing the size of 'other' is to restore back to factory defaults, and you could then try restoring to your backup which hopefully won't copy the 'other' back (or you might have to just sync content back and not restore to your backup).

  • Macbbok Pro Disk Space Issue

    Hello All
I have downloaded Grandperspective to analyse my hard disk. I left my MBP on and with roughly 35GB free, the next morning I have less than 1MB free.
I done a get info test and had the following:
Desktop, Apps, Docs, Pictures, Music, Music 2 = 40GB ( using finder get info )
Desktop, Apps, Docs, Pictures, Music, Music 2 = 39GB ( using Grandperspective )
    So thats fine,
then I use Grandperspective for the actual Hard Disk icon ( Mac HD ) and it reveals that 37.8GB is used in the Library Console 501 console Log 1?????
    In all I have 91GB ( 100GB but through system use 91GB )
    1GB RAM
If anyone could help it would be great. The grandperspective tests: Logical & Physical=roughly the same amount.

Uninstall Platinum Notes. Report the problem to the software developer. See about a compatible upgrade or replace it with a different more compatible application.
As far as the error goes here's all I could find:
-10867 is kAudioUnitErr_Uninitialized - you may be missing a call to AUGraphInitialize after setting up the audio units?
I would send that info to the software developer's support.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
    AppZapper
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • MacBook Pro Disk Space Issues & Recommendations

I am looking for recommendations on how to free up disk space.  I have a 250GB MacBook Pro-2013.  I have a 2TB Time Machine back-up hard drive.  Photos take up 50GB, videos 60GB, music 30GB.  My Time Machine backs up my computer each time it is plugged into an adapter and on my home network.  Is this too often?  Should I move all my photos and videos  of family to the cloud?  Do I need another external hard drive to store photos, videos and music on?  I have emptied trash, deleted unused apps, deleted old documents and deleted old iMessages.  Thank you for your help!

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Filevault: Disk space issue

    Hello everybody,
I experience these problems using Filevault: I copied files from my iMac to my Macbook to import them into iPhoto. After finishing the import I deleted the pre-import folder and logged out to compact my Filevault. Interestingly the disk space previously claimed by the afore mentioned folder does not seem to be available after the next login. Finder shows 5.12 GB free disk space where about 25 GB had to be.
I used WhatSize to explore the hard disk and discovered my Filevault's sparsebundle to consume all the missing disk space. Although the folder is definitively deleted and the sparsebundle was several times compacted by logging out the disk space does not become available.
My next step was to examine my Filevault's sparsebundle (files) via hdiutil in Terminal after switching to another user's accout:
    $ sudo hdiutil info
    $ hdiutil imageinfo xyz.sparsebundle
This gave me a first impression of the diskimage settings used by Filevault.
    $ hdiutil compact xyz.sparsebundle
I tried to compact the sparsebundle manually. Output:
0 bytes of 23.8 GB possible freed. (Translated from German output.)
As indicated in the hdiutil manpage compacting a sparsebundle makes hdiutil delete the files which are not used any more. Thus, there needs to be some (still used) information left in the 8 MB files that can obviously not be deleted.
So I finally tried to resize the sparsebundle via hdiutil without success. I tought that shinking the sparsebundle's size would force Filevault (or hdiutil in the background) to reorganize the image's content being afterward able to free the disk space via "compact":
$ hdiutil resize -size min xyz.sparsebundle
    and
    $ hdiutil resize -size 60g xyz.sparsebundle
    respectively
did finish without errors but did not resolve the problem.
My next step will have to be to deactivate an re-activate Filevault after copying my files to an external hard disk. But I do want to circumvent this step.
Does anyone have other suggestions how to free the unused used disk space?
    Thank you in advance!
    Johannes

I find a solution by myself:
*Howto shrink Filevault encrypted home folder (sparsebundle)*
What you need before you start:
    1) Filevaulted user account ( user )
    2) Drive Genius application by Prosoft
    3) A second admin user ( user2 )
    4) Three hours (depending on the Filevault‘s size)
    What you need to do:
    1) Log in as another admin user
    2) Open „Terminal“.
    3) Navigate to the user‘s folder:
    cd /Users/ user
    4) Change filevaulted folder‘s and subfolder‘s permissions:
    sudo chown -R user.sparsebundle user2
    5) Rename sparsebundle file:
    mv user.sparsebundle user.dmg
    6) Open user.dmg with Drive Genius.
    7) Defrag mounted image.
This will take a while depending on the actual size of the sparseimage.
    8) Close application and unmount image via Finder or mark mounted folder and press „cmd + E“.
    9) Rename image:
    mv user.dmg user.sparsebundle
    10)Change permissions:
    chmod -R user.sparsebundle user
    11)Log out current user ( user2 ).
12)Log in user and log out to compact the Filevault‘s sparseimage.
    Feel free to comment!
