Load JAR from BLOB column?

I have a JAR file that load and works find when I use the loadjava utility, but my software is now being deployed to a server that I don't have remote access to and can't connect remotely to the Oracle database. I need to push out updated JAR files periodically and would like to automate the updates without requiring help from their DBA.
Is it possible to load my JAR into a BLOB column in the database and then have it loaded from that? In my testing it appears that I can do that for a single class, but I'd like to do the entire JAR. I've tried CREATE JAVA ... USING BLOB, but that appears to be expecting a character stream (java source).
My software is on a separate server from the database, so I don't think I can use a BFILE???
We're using Oracle 10g.
Thanks!

Hi
Sure you can do that :)
I have done a CMS Application Archive importer into DBPrism CMS.
Look at the code (importDir function):
http://dbprism.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/dbprism/cms-2.1/src/com/prism/cms/core/Util.java?revision=1.10&view=markup
First you has to iterate on each entry of the JAR using ZipInputStream class, then for each entry you can create a temporary BLOB to process each "create java class using .." SQL operations.
Here a code snipped:
695 BLOB newContent =
696 BLOB.createTemporary(conn, true, BLOB
697 .DURATION_SESSION);
698 OutputStream ow = newContent.setBinaryStream(1L);
699 while ((size = jin.read(buff, 0, buff.length)) > 0)
700 ow.write(buff, 0, size);
701 ow.flush();
702 ow.close();
703 ow = null;
704 cs.setBLOB(1, newContent);
705 cs.setString(2,(isResource) ? "java resource" : "java source");
706 cs.setString(3, classOrResourceName);
707 cs.registerOutParameter(4,Types.VARCHAR);
708 try {
709 cs.executeUpdate();
710 String loadedClass = cs.getString(4);
711 if (!isResource)
712 listOfLoadedClasses.put(loadedClass,classOrResourceName);
713 log.debug(".importDir - OK loading: "+loadedClass);
714 } catch (SQLException s) {
715 log.warn(".importDir - Error loading: "+classOrResourceName,s);
716 } finally {
717 newContent.freeTemporary();
718 }
cs is:
674 cs =
675 (OracleCallableStatement)conn.prepareCall("{ call begin\n" +
676 " update create$java$lob$table set LOB = ?, loadtime=sysdate where name = 'LOADJAVA/LOB/KEY';\n" +
677 " execute immediate 'create or replace '||?||' named \"'||?||'\" using ''LOADJAVA/LOB/KEY''';\n" +
678 " ? := \"NameFromLastDDL\"(0);\n" +
679 " end }");
Hope this help, Marcelo.

  • URGENT: Problems Loading files with SQL Loader into a BLOB column

    Hi friends,
    I read a lot about how to load files into blob columns, but I found errors that I can't solve.
    I've read several notes in these forums, ine of them:
    sql loader: loading external file into blob
    and tried the solutions but without good results.
    Here are some of my tests:
    With this .ctl:
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE *
    INTO TABLE mytable
    REPLACE
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
    number1 INTEGER EXTERNAL,
    cad1 CHAR(250),
    image1 LOBFILE(cad1) TERMINATED BY EOF
    BEGINDATA
    1153,/opt/oracle/appl/myapp/1.0.0/img/1153.JPG,
    the error when I execute sqlldr is:
    SQL*Loader-350: Syntax error at line 9.
    Expecting "," or ")", found "LOBFILE".
    image1 LOBFILE(cad1) TERMINATED BY EOF
    ^
    What problem exists with LOBFILE ??
    (mytable of course has number1 as a NUMBER, cad1 as VARCHAR2(250) and image1 as BLOB
    I tried too with :
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE sample.dat
    INTO TABLE mytable
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
    (cad1 CHAR(3),
    cad2 FILLER CHAR(30),
    image1 BFILE(CONSTANT "/opt/oracle/appl/myapp/1.0.0/img/", cad2))
    sample.dat is:
    1153,1153.JPEG,
    and error is:
    SQL*Loader-350: Syntax error at line 6.
    Expecting "," or ")", found "FILLER".
    cad2 FILLER CHAR(30),
    ^
    I tried too with a procedure, but without results...
    Any idea about this error messages?
    Thanks a lot.

    > So you think that if one person put an "urgent" in the subject is screwing the problems of
    other people?
    Absolutely. As you are telling them "My posting is more important than yours and deserve faster attention and resolution than yours!".
    So what could a typical response be? Someone telling you that his posting is more important by using the phrase "VERY URGENT!". And the next poster may decide that, no, his problem is evern more import - and use "EXTREMELY URGENT!!" as the subject. And the next one then raises the stakes by claiming his problem is "CODE RED! CRITICAL. DEFCON 4. URGENT!!!!".
    Stupid, isn't it? As stupid as your instance that there is nothing wrong with your pitiful clamoring for attention to your problem by saying it is urgent.
    What does the RFC's say about a meaningful title/subject in a public forum? I trust that you know what a RFC is? After all, you claim to have used public forums on the Internet for some years now..
    The RFC on "public forums" is called The Usenet Article Format. This is what it has to say about the SUBJECT of a public posting:
    =
    The "Subject" line (formerly "Title") tells what the message is about. It should be suggestive enough of the contents of the message to enable a reader to make a decision whether to read the message based on the subject alone. If the message is submitted in response to another message (e.g., is a follow-up) the default subject should begin with the four characters "Re: ", and the "References" line is required. For follow-ups, the use of the "Summary" line is encouraged.
    =
    ([url http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/rfc/1036.html]RFC 1036, the Usenet article format)
    Or how about [url http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/usenet/dont.html]The seven don'ts of Usenet?
    Point 7 of the Don'ts:
    Don't try to catch attention by typing something foolish like "PLEASE HELP ME!!!! URGENT!!! I NEED YOUR HELP!!!" into the Subject line. Instead, type something informative (using normal mixed case!) that describes the subject matter.
    Please tell me that you are not too thick to understand the basic principles of netiquette, or to argue with the RFCs that governs the very fabric of the Internet.
    As for when I have an "urgent" problem? In my "real" work? I take it up with Oracle Support on Metalink by filing an iTAR/SR. As any non-idiot should do with a real-life Oracle crisis problem.
    I do not barge into a public forum like you do, jump up and down, and demand quick attention by claiming that my problem is more important and more urgent and more deserving of attention that other people's problem in the very same forum.

  • How to read a XML file from BLOB column and insert in a table - PL/SQL Only

    Hi,
    To make data load more simple to end user instead placing file on the server and use SQL-LOADER, I came up with new idea that using oracle ebusiness suite attachment functionality. that loads a XML file from local PC to a database column(table is fnd_attachments, default data type is BLOB over here).
    I tried with DBMS_LOB and didnt get around.
    Please can anyone tell me how to read the BLOB column using PL/SQL and store the data in a oracle table. Here's the sample XML file and table structure FYI.

  • How to load images from BLOB to javascript?

    hi, Guys:
    I need to load thumbnail images from BLOB to multiple markers' infowindow in Google map . I have implemented Google map in APEX. I load the data suchas text for every marker's infowindow from Oracle database table with PL/JSON, and infowindow works fine. Could anyone give me a suggestion or example so I know how to load images to javascript?
    Thanks a lot.

    Thanks.

    hi, VC:
    Thanks for your kind reply. I need to render these images out of APEX session, actually in javascript that is related to Google map markers' infowindow.
    I checked the documents of APEX_UTIL.GET_BLOB_FILE_SRC, but my impression is I need to use it in APEX instead of javascript if my understanding is correct. I already implemented a procedure with PL/SQL to load images from a BLOB column in Oracle database. But the problem is, how can I pass it to javascript code out of APEX to javascript (I could pass text or number from APEX to javascript with PL/JSON though,But I assume that still google map will be within a valid apex session? if so you should be able to use the above api.
    Basically what this api does is generates a kind of url to each blob in the database, not sure how google api's deal with this though. Why don't you give it a try?
    The other option is to make your pl/sql procedure public and then you can generate the json to include the images urls such as:
         "employees" : [{
                   "firstName" : "John",
                   "lastName" : "Doe",
                   "imgSrc" : "http://somewhere/db_schema.your_download_proc?p_file=#ID#",
                   "firstName" : "Anna",
                   "lastName" : "Smith"
                   "imgSrc" : "http://somewhere/db_schema.your_download_proc?p_file=#ID#",
                   "firstName" : "Peter",
                   "lastName" : "Jones"
                   "imgSrc" : "http://somewhere/db_schema.your_download_proc?p_file=#ID#",
    }And then you can use this new attribute to populate the images in javascript using standard img tag
    See this tutorial http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14373_01/appdev.32/e13363/up_dn_files.htm
    I did not find any method in PL/JSON to pass image object)? So far I only found example to load images from local files to javascript.Hmm..I don't think you should load image objects.

  • Display data from BLOB column.

    Hi All,
    I want to display data from blob datatype field, which contains HTML and GIF both files.
    If I set it's property from file format IMAGE then i get data only gif.
    if anybody have answer plz revert back...
    awaiting...
    Juned

    Hi Juned
    What I suggest is that you may have overlapping fields. One to show HTML and other to show GIF. You need to add one more column to your table in order identify if the BLOB is GIF or HTML.
    In the Format Trigger of each of these two fields, inspect the value of flag column and hide one field if the datatype is not its type.
    For instance, if flag field is 0 then hide Image field and show HTML field. If flag field is 1 then show Image field and hide HTML field.

  • How can I open different binary files from BLOB column ?

    If we store some type of binary file (XLS, DOC, PDF, EML and so on, not only pictures) in BLOB column how can I show the different contents? We use designer and forms 9i with PL/SQL.
    How can I copy the files from BLOB to file in a directory or how can I pass BLOB's content to the proper application directly to open it?

    The mime type is just a string as explained above (e.g. application/pdf...). There are lot of samples here and on metalink.
    E.g. add a column mime_type varchar(30) to your blob table. Create a procedure similar to the following:
    PROCEDURE getblob
    (P_FILE IN VARCHAR2
    IS
    vblob blob;
    vmime_type myblobs.mime_type%type;
    length number;
    begin
         select document, mime_type into vblob,vmime_type from myblobs where docname = p_file;
         length := dbms_lob.getlength(vblob);
         if length = 0 or vblob is null then
         htp.p('Document not available yet.');
         else
         owa_util.mime_header(vmime_type);
         htp.p('Content-Length: ' || dbms_lob.getlength(vblob));
         owa_util.http_header_close;
         wpg_docload.download_file(vblob);
         end if;
    exception
         when others then
         htp.p(sqlerrm);
    END;
    Create a DAD on your application server (refer to documentation on how to create a DAD).
    Display the blob from forms (e.g. on a when-button-pressed trigger):
    web.show_document('http://myserver:port/DAD/getblob?p_file=myfilename','_blank');
    For storing blobs in a directory on your db server take a look at the dbms_lob package.
    For storing blobs in a directory on your app server take a look at WebUtil available on OTN.

  • Problem with loading file to BLOB column

    I am attempting to load up a .gif gile into a BLOB column in my database.
    I created the directory as below:
    ===
    SQL> create or replace directory example_lob_dir as 'C:\temp';
    Directory created.
    ===
    Next I created the following procedure to load the file into the BLOB column:
    ====
    create or replace procedure load_blob as
    dest_loc blob; -- destination location
    src_loc bfile := bfilename('example_lob_dir', 'example.gif'); -- source location
    begin
    -- Insert intial BLOB value
    insert into test_blob(id, file_name, image)
    values (1, 'test.gif', empty_blob())
    returning image into dest_loc;
    -- Open the source BFILE
    dbms_lob.open(src_loc, dbms_lob.lob_readonly);
    -- Open the LOB (optional)
    dbms_lob.open(dest_loc, dbms_lob.lob_readwrite);
    -- Load the file
    dbms_lob.loadfromfile(
    dest_lob => dest_loc,
    src_lob => src_loc,
    amount => dbms_lob.getlength(src_loc));
    -- Close LOBs
    dbms_lob.close(dest_loc);
    dbms_lob.close(src_loc);
    commit;
    end load_blob;
    ===
    The file is definitely in the C:\temp folder and is named correctly. I am working in WinXP with Oracle10gXE and both server and client are on the same machine.
    The procedure compiles without any errors but when I attempt to run it I get an error message as below:
    ==
    SQL> exec load_blob
    BEGIN load_blob; END;
    ERROR at line 1:

    Any help would be much appreciated.

    When you create objects on the database they are stored in the data dictionary by default in UPPER case.
    So in this line:
    src_loc bfile := bfilename('example_lob_dir', 'example.gif'); -- source location
    you need to reference the name of the directory object in upper case. e.g.
    src_loc bfile := bfilename('EXAMPLE_LOB_DIR', 'example.gif'); -- source location

  • Load jar from jar in applet

    hi i made an applet that read xml files.
    i using in jaxp.jar and in parser.jar currently i put them in ext folder in plug in. is there any other way to put them in my jar applet file and to load them from there.

    The xml stuff is one of the optional packages you can install and belongs in the /ext (extension) folder just like you have it. Possibly, this will be integrated in the v1.4 release, but I'm not sure about that. Anyway, my best advice for you is to follow the instructions Sun gives on exactly this situation:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/guide/extensions/extensions.html
    Also on this page is a link to Optional Package Versioning that I highly recommend you read, as it details how the v1.3 plug-in will automatically install the xml jars on the client machine for you. It doesn't get any easier than this! :-)

  • How to upload/download file into/from blob column in ADF/JDev 11g.

    Hello to all.
    I found demo from Kuba user on that page: http://kuba.zilp.pl/?id=1
    But that demo is for release 10g and too complicated for me for this time (I'm fish in Jdeveloper).
    I can create some simple table view (of form view) with oracle connection with table with blob data.
    Blob column will content doc/xls/pdf ...etc.
    Now I can add two buttons for download and upload.
    What I have to do in next time?
    Is it possible to use some component or something?
    Thank you
    Ben

    I was able to accomplish downloading from a blob, but I'm trying to dynamically set the ContentType.
    As the table may contain different types of files, I'm setting the ContentType to #{row.Fileext}, where Fileext is set in SQL select as follows:
    pseudocode: get file extension, and set the content type based on file extension.
    sql select :decode(substr(fdv.file_name,instr(fdv.file_name,'.',-1,1)+1),'log','text/plain; charset=utf-8','xml','text/xml','xls','application/vnd.ms-excel','tif','image/tiff','jpg','image/jpeg','unknown')
    I rather use a fuction/method, and tried the following instead:
    ContentType = #{backingBeanScope.backing_processReqs.FileAttachContType}
    where FileAttachContType =
    public class ProcessReqs {
    public String FileAttachContType() {
    // code to substring filename for extension and decode values

  • Load jar from my webapp

    Hi!
    I would like to load a jar file (antlr.jar) from my web application instead of the jar file loaded by WLS.
    How can I do that?
    I'm using Node Manager to setup/start/stop the managed server. Wich are the script files that are invoked when the control is made by node manager?
    Thanks a lot
    A.

    Hi,
    Inside your "WEB-INF/lib" you need to place your "antlr.jar" file ...then Add the following Tag inside *"weblogic.xml"*...
    <prefer-web-inf-classes>true</prefer-web-inf-classes>
    In this case the classes available inside antlr.jar will be loaded from your application lib only.
    EXAMPLE:
    <weblogic-web-app xmlns:xsi=”http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance” xmlns=”http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90″ xsi:schemaLocation=”http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90/weblogic-web-app.xsd”>
    <container-descriptor>
    <prefer-web-inf-classes>true</prefer-web-inf-classes>
    </container-descriptor>
    </weblogic-web-app>
    To achieve the same thing at EAR level ...please paste your Antlr.jar inside "EAR_ROOT/APP-INF/lib" directory
    and provide the following *"weblogic-application.xml"*
    <?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”ISO-8859-1″?>
    <weblogic-application xmlns=”http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90″>
    <prefer-application-packages>
    <package-name>antlr.*</package-name>
    </prefer-application-packages>
    </weblogic-application>

  • Retreving Image from Blob Columns in forms 6i

    Hi
    I inserted image into oracle database in an BLOB column Using Form6i. The table has only two columns, One is varchar2 and other is BLOB. The time it take for inserting image is very little, but retrieving from database to form is taking time. Can anybody suggest tips to improve the speed of retrieving?

    select blob_column
    from my_tablewithout a WHERE clause retrieves all images. Yes, that may take some time. Be sure to add a WHERE clause.

  • Applet unable to load JARs from URL?

    Please let me preface my query with "I have not done applets ever for live business apps, only for uni and that was over a decade ago..." :)
    I've been doing a lot of reading the last couple days and have been trying to modify a currently existing applet which unfortunately currently depends on libraries being installed in the ext dir on the user's PC (!). I am modifying it such that 1. it will now make a web service call and 2. it will need to include all of the good libraries that come with making web service calls. My other goal is to change the way the applet is loaded (applet tag) so that the libraries need not be pre-installed in the user's ext dir.
    My trouble is, I cannot seem to persuade the applet to load the libraries that co-exist with it. I am loading the applet via a simple test harness page presently, where the HTML file resides in one directory (http://localhost/cis/dictation/test1.html) and the JARs in another (http://localhost/cis/common), but all at the same subdir level under the main web root. I know the applet is loading, as I have a test debug statement which prints out on each invocation.
    Note If I load all of the JARs in the dependency hierarchy into the extensions directory, everything works swimmingly.
    I have tried multiple variations on the applet tag, not completely sure of what it should look like. Please note when I load the URLs into the browser for each individual library, e.g. http://localhost/cis/common/axis.jar, the browser prompts me to download the JARs, so I know the browser can "see" them.

  • How to display images from BLOB column via APEX 4.0

    Hello,
    I did the following in order to display images of two Oracle records on the APEX page. I am using APEX Version : 4.0.1.00.03 , Oracle DB Version : 10.2.0.4.0.
    1. Created An oracle table TEST_FORM
    with 3 columns
    ( ID number, MIME_TYPE varchar2(255) , Image BLOB )
    2. Inserted two records
    10001, image/gif, ( actual image1)
    10002, image/gif, ( actual image2)
    3. created an Oracle procedure
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE show_my_form ( p_image_id IN test_form.id%type) AS
    l_mime test_form.mime_type%type;
    l_length NUMBER;
    l_file_name VARCHAR2 (2000);
    lob_loc test_form.IMAGE%type;
    BEGIN
    SELECT mime_type, IMAGE
    , DBMS_LOB.getlength (IMAGE)
    INTO l_mime, lob_loc, l_length
    FROM test_form
    WHERE id = p_image_id;
    owa_util.mime_header(l_mime, false);
    htp.p ('Content-length: ' || l_length);
    owa_util.http_header_close;
    wpg_docload.download_file (lob_loc);
    END show_my_form ;
    4. In Apex 4.0
    step1. Created an interactive report on a new APEX page
    step2. Specified the following in the Region Source
    select id, mime_type, '<img src="#OWNER#.show_my_form ?p_image_id=#ID#" />' photo
    from TEST_FORM
    The column result shows as <img src="CCS.show_my_form?p_image_id=#ID#" />
    I am unable to display the column image as a link to a proper image photo.
    Could you please advise me if I missed anything ?
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards
    Susanna

    Maybe the space you have before the ? is causing issues. there shouldn't be any space.
    Your procedure looks to be much the same of one that I have.
    Have you granted execute on your procedure?
    Also, what version DB are you running? This could be another issue: http://daust.blogspot.com/2006/04/xe-calling-stored-procedures.html
    But anyway, you don't need to create your own procedure these days. You could do the following:
    in your query, have a column: dbms_lob.getlength(blob) photo ; save, then in column attributes for that column, apply a format mask. There is usually a link below the text box for the format mask - BLOB Download Format Mask, which will help you build the format mask. But it is documented here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17556_01/doc/user.40/e15517/advnc.htm#BCGGJHEF
