Load, save, and manage brush presets

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WS0097B3F6-D609-4c17-B759-FF0F5FCBAD08a.htm l

If you want to remove multiple brushes then you'll have to use Edit->Preset Manager where you can select an item and shift+click on another one which will select all of the items between them so that you can delete them using the Delete button (among other things)

    It's a good idea that should be submitted to Apple's developers. (Submitting ideas in these forums might or might not get to the right people, while submitting feedback via Apple's forms will get channeled appropriately.)
    In a pinch, you could approximate what you're looking for by bookmarking all of your open tabs into a new folder in your bookmarks, then using the option to "Open in Tabs" when accessing that folder in the Bookmarks menu. That's certainly clumsy compared to a simple one-click "save state" method that you're requesting, but it's something....

  • Brush presets / tool presets - confusion

    I'm by no means a beginner (I think this I'm in my 15th year using Photoshop..), but something that's always bugged me is the difference between brush presets and tool presets. It's never been much of an issue in the past, but I'm spending an increasing amount of my workflow drawing digitally using various brushes, and I'm finding these two different ways to save and import brushes quite confusing. If I've altered a brush, and want to save it, what are the advantages / disatvantages of saving it as a tool preset, or as a brush?
    I have my favourite pencils saved as tool presets, which works fine, but I don't see what the brush presets do that is different from this. Is there a 'right way' to organise / save brushes? What's actually the difference between the 2 things? Are they totally interchangeable?

    So going by what you said, that means the Tool Presets store tool specific settings (flow, opacity etc), as well as the brushes themselves. Is that correct?
    Brush Presets (see Brush Preset Panel, not just the Brush Panel) can be used by all painting Tools. Tool Presets refer to a specific Tool but can indeed hold a Brush tip that has been removed from the Brush Presets.

  • Can't load tpl brush presets (CS5, Mac OSX 10.5)

    Hi all,
    I'm using Photshop CS5.1 on my Mac (OSX 10.5.8) and don't seem to be able to load tpl files.
    I put the file in Photoshop's "presets -> tools" folder and tried to open it via the brush presets picker. When I browse for the file, only ABR files are shown, TPLs are greyed out.
    Any idea why this could be and what I could do to make the preset work?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Open them in the tool presets picker, the preset manager, double click them, or drag them to the application icon.

  • Save brushes preset without a save dialog

    I managed to get the basic code of saving the brushes preset by using the Scripting Listener plug-in.
    Only problem is that it keeps popping the file save dialog.
    I'd like to dump the dialog and save the brushes file to a predefined file path.
    Is it possible?

    OK. Got it.
    If a file with that name already exists in that location, you need to remove or rename it first before you save.

  • Save and load jtree

    Hi,
    I have a jtree which I would like to save and then load and display in a JPanel. Just for info, the nodes of the tree are instances of a user object i have created. Now I have looked into two ways of doing this:
    1) Serialize the actual JTree object; write it to a file using objectoutputstream and then read it in using objectinputstream, OR
    2) Serialize the tree model again using objectoutputstream then read the model back and create a new JTree initialising with the model i read in.
    I made some progress using the second approach, but when I load the tree model back and create a new tree with that model it just displays as a blank root with blank children. (Although the tree structure is the same).
    What am i doing wrong?
    The code is:
    public void saveTheTree() {
            TreeModel tm = tree1.getModel();
            try {
                 ObjectOutputStream out = new ObjectOutputStream(new FileOutputStream("treeModel"));
                 out.writeObject(tm);//the actual tree object
                 out.flush();
                 out.close();
            catch(IOException e){}
      public void openTheTree() {
           ObjectInputStream in = null;
             try {
                 in = new ObjectInputStream(new FileInputStream("treeModel"));
                 TreeModel atm = (TreeModel) in.readObject();
                 JTree loaded = new JTree(atm);
                 abPanel3.removeAll();
                 abPanel3.revalidate();
                 abPanel3.add(loaded, BorderLayout.CENTER);
                 abPanel3.revalidate();
             catch(Exception e) {
                  e.printStackTrace();
      }abPanel3 is where the tree is displayed and tree1 is my tree.
    Any help would be much appreciated!

    well the leaves are defaultmutabletreenodes instantiated with a user object which attaches a link and level to each one. According to the java documentation, defaultmutabletreenode is serializable, but do i need to serialize each node of the tree as well?
    Has anyone managed to save and load a jtree before?
    Thanks.

  • Why won't CS6 load brush shape dynamics from brush presets?

    I have a bunch of saved brush presets that I use on multiple computers and photoshop versions.
    In CS6 suddenly my brush presets won't load correctly when I pick a brush.
    When I pick a brush I'll get all the correct brush settings EXCEPT for the Shape Dynamics. Shape Dynamics will remain the same throughout all my different brushes.
    I've done all of the following steps and in various combinations with no result:
    reloaded my brush presets
    resaved my brush presets
    re install my wacom drivers
    unplugged and re-plugged my wacom
    restarted my computer
    update photoshop
    I'm using Photoshop CS6 (64Bit) on windows 8
    My tablet is a Intuos 5 touch L
    Thanks beforehand

    Two things to check
    The Pressure Override could be enabled for size in the tool options bar
    The Lock button to the right of Shape Dynamics in the Brush panel could be enabled

  • How to save tool presets as brush presets?

    I have some tool presets that would be very useful, but I normally just go to brush presets, which i have organized and which provide greater flexibility. Is there a way to turn "tool" into a "brush"? Going through defining brush presets, forced me to adjust all kind of things, but as tool presets they are already perfect. There has to be a way to do it easier! Hope you can help.

    Gene
    I'll ad a giant AOL 'Me Too' to that Gene.  I don't blame Lynda and Bruce when there is $1.5b on the table, but I think it a sad reflection on our times that a dot.com that has questionable worth to our society, can afford to pay so much money for a genuinely useful service like Lynda.com.  Apparently they started with $20k and have built it up with no outside help, so they are sitting pretty right now.
    My concern is that the focus of Lynda.com does not shift even remotely towards business type courses, and away from creative.  BTW  I am absolutely loving my Lynda subscription.  It seems that no matter what the subject, if you ever get stuck on something, there is a world class course to put you straight. As regards Photoshop, I considered myself at least an expert, yet I have been able to find game changing new tips on almost a daily basis.  Or sometimes just a better way of doing things.  It absolutely helps to go into the expert courses with a good working knowledge, because it means you pick up the content straight away, and hopefully remember it.
    Somebody was smiling down on me the day I was about to commit $250 for a year's subscription, and literally as I sat down at the computer, there was a ping to tell me a new email had arrived, and it turned out to be offering that same subscription for $150.  I suspect the apparent coincidence was driven by my recent visits to the site, but if that email had arrived ten minutes latter, I'd have been down a $100.  :-)

  • Difference between a brush and a tool preset

    Hi folks,
    I know this is a rookie question, so please bear with me.
    A friend just sent me a .tpl fiile, and I put it into my tool preset folder.  It is a fantastic brush/pencil.  My question is:  the .tpl file, when I loaded it, seemed to have a brush texture associated with it already.  Is that true?  Or were the tool presets simply being added to a standard brush?  If that is true, when I select the preset from the tool preset dropdown on the tool bar, how do I know what brush that preset is applied to?
    In short, I guess I don't understand how a preset can be applied to a brush that isn't in my current brush set.
    Thanks for any help!
    dppc

    It would appear a Tool Preset can contain a Brush tip without it being represented in the Brush Presets Panel.
    Just look at the size of a single Tool Preset saved out compared to the Brush Preset of the same Brush Preset saved out.

    Also, just updated the phone's software today, and iTunes' software is already up to date.

    Hi Gregg,
    Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.

  • Save and load game into and from binary file

    hello!
    I'm new to java and i'm doing a game at school.
    im doing the same game and im doing a "save" and "Load" game. i'm doing this to save the game:
    public void jMenuJogoSalvar_actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
    System.out.println("SAlvar o Jogo actual");
    FileOutputStream out = null;
    ObjectOutputStream s = null;
    int valorRet = jFileChooserSalvar.showSaveDialog(this);
    if (valorRet == jFileChooserSalvar.APPROVE_OPTION) {
    try {
    out = new FileOutputStream(jFileChooserSalvar.getSelectedFile().getAbsoluteFile());
    s = new ObjectOutputStream(out);
    s.writeObject(mesa);
    s.flush();
    catch (FileNotFoundException fNFExc) {
    System.out.println("FileNotFound");
    catch (IOException ioExc) {
    ioExc.printStackTrace();
    finally {
    try {
    if (s != null) {
    s.close();
    if (out != null) {
    out.close();
    catch (IOException ex) {
    and i'm getting this error:
    java.io.NotSerializableException: com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsFileChooserUI
    i have already implemented the method Serializable into the classes that i'm trying to write and the classes they use but i still have this.
    Tell me what to do .
    thanks for the time.

    Does the Object mesa have a com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsFileChooserUI
    object in side it? or does any of the object that are in side it have a com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsFileChooserUI
    object?

  • Save and load public/private RSA key on file

    hi
    i'm triyng to save and load an RSA key to a file
    i generate the keys:
            KeyPairGenerator generator=null;
            KeyPair coppia=null;
            PrivateKey c_privata=null;
            PublicKey c_pubblica=null;
                generator=KeyPairGenerator.getInstance("RSA");
                //imposto la dimensione
                generator.initialize(1024);
                //genero le 2 chiavi
                coppia=generator.genKeyPair();
                //imposto la privata
                c_privata=coppia.getPrivate();
                //imposo la pubblica
                c_pubblica=coppia.getPublic();
    //i save the key
            FileOutputStream file = new FileOutputStream("key");
            file.write(c_pubblica.getEncoded());
            file.close();and then i use another program that imports the key:
       Key chiave=null;
       FileInputStream file=new FileInputStream("key");
       byte[]byte_chiave=new byte[162];
                 X509EncodedKeySpec chiave_spec = new X509EncodedKeySpec(byte_chiave);
                KeyFactory keyFactory = KeyFactory.getInstance("RSA");
                chiave = keyFactory.generatePublic(chiave_spec);but when i try to reload he key i get:
    java.security.InvalidKeyException: IOException : DER input, Integer tag error
    where am i wrong?
    thanks

    sorry...
    this is the correct code:
            Key chiave=null;
            FileInputStream file=new FileInputStream(path);
            byte[]byte_chiave=new byte[file.available()];
            System.out.println("leggo: "+file.read(byte_chiave));
            X509EncodedKeySpec chiave_spec = new X509EncodedKeySpec(byte_chiave);
            KeyFactory keyFactory = KeyFactory.getInstance("RSA");
            chiave = keyFactory.generatePublic(chiave_spec);

    Assuming you are deploying applet or webstart than perhaps you can use PersistenceService?
