Loading an Oracle SQL query into an MSSQL table

I have a select query on an Oracle table. I want to load this data into an MSSQL table.
Problem is that I cannot create an interim table on the Oracle database (lack of privelages)
Is there a way to load an Oracle query into the MSSQL table without an interim table?
Many thanks
Z

Yes,
1) Create an ODI procedure
2) Create a step inside
3) at source tab put the oracle query
4) at target tab put the sql insert code
Refer to the oracle returned values like "#column_name_from_oracle_query"
Make sense?

  • Can I put a SQL query into a bind variable and then use it to output report

    Hi,
    Can I put a SQL query into a bind variable and then use it to output report?
    I want to create a report and an item "text area" (say P1_TEXT) which can let user to input a SQL query(they are all technical users and knows SQL very well). Then, I use a bind variable (that text area) to store the SQL statement. Then, I add a submit button and I want to use the following to output the report:
    select * from (:P1_TEXT);
    Do you think it is possible to do that? Any known limitations for APEX in this area?
    Thanks a lot,
    Angela

    You can, but make sure it's what you really want to do. Make sure you are VERY familiar with SQL Injection. Most people who know what it is, go out of their way to prevent SQL Injection. You're going out of your way to allow it.
    You can try using &P1_TEXT. instead of bind variable syntax. Bind variables are one of the best ways to prevent SQL Injection, which is why it's not working for you.
    Once again, I strongly urge you to consider the implications of your app, but this suggestion should get it working.

    Hi,
    This delivers possibly wrong data in MCOD installations.
    Depending on Oracle Version and Patchlevel dba_segments does not always have the correct data,
    at any time esp. for indexes right after being rebuild parallel (Even in DB02 because it is using USER_SEGMENTS).
    Takes a day to get the data back in line (never found out, who did the correction at night, could be RSCOLL00 ?).
    Use above statement with "OWNER = " in WHERE for MCOD or connect as schema owner and use USER_SEGMENTS.
    Use with
    segment_name LIKE '<TABLE_NAME>%'
    if you like to see the related indexes as well.
    For partitioned objects, a join from dba_tables / dba_indexes to dba_tab_partitions/dba_ind_partitions to dba_segments
    might be needed, esp. for hash partitioned tables, depending on how they have been created ( partition names SYS_xxxx).

  • Copying SQL Script from Oracle SQL Developer into Excel with formatting

    I need to copy a SQL Script into Excel in order to develop some VBA code. Is there any nice way that I can copy SQL Script from Oracle SQL Developer into Excel and retain its formatting? I am a stickler for having legible, readable SQL and like to have all my columns lined up and aliases lined up. When we used to use SQL Navigator, the tab formatting seemed to copy and paste just fine. Now that we have migrated to Oracle SQL Developer, the formatting seems to get all messed up.
    And suggestions are greatly appreciated and Thanks in advance for your review and am hopeful for an answer.
    Thanks.
    PSULionRP

    I suppose you want a real tabulator instead of spaces. You can configure this in the preferences (SQL Formatter - Oracle). You have to apply it then to your existing code (e.g. CTRL-F7), but new code should get it right from the start.
    Hope that helps,
    K.

  • Help with SQL query into Crystal

    Afternoon all,
    I am trying to convert the following SQL query into Crystal by using the tables given in the query however the relationship given in the query is bit awkward, in a sense that I cannot create a relationship under Crystal desgin.
    Here is the query
    select count(order_progressed.order_no),reason_code
    from order_progressed,lab_reasons, rework_groups
    where
    order_progressed.date_created=Today
    and (order_progressed.order_status=from_gate
    and lab_reasons.reason_code between from_reason and to_reason)
    group by lab_reasons.reason_code
    order by 2
    We have three tables
    1: Order_Progressed
    2: Lab Reasons
    3: Rework_Groups
    Order_progressed can be linked with rework_group by Status (if you see the line order_progressed.order_status=from_gate)
    However how to link the following line?
    lab_reasons.reason_code between from_reason and to_reason
    I mean when I try to link it by Lab Reasons.Reason Code to From_reason, to reason, it doesn't seem to work.
    The report is grouped by Lab Reasons. Reason Code, so I really have to some how create a relationship between Lab Reasons table and Rework_Group table.
    This is what I get when I run the same query into Crystal using the relationship
    SELECT lab_reasons.reason_code, order_progressed.date_created, order_progressed.order_no
    FROM   maxmast.lab_reasons lab_reasons, kevin.order_progressed order_progressed,
    roger.rework_groups rework_groups
    WHERE  (order_progressed.order_status=rework_groups.from_gate) AND
    ((lab_reasons.reason_code=rework_groups.from_reason) AND
    (lab_reasons.reason_code=rework_groups.to_reason)) AND (order_progressed.date_created>={ts
    '2008-01-01 00:00:00'} AND order_progressed.date_created<={ts '2008-12-17 00:00:00'})
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks
    Kind Regards
    Jehanzeb

    Sastry I didn't understand why did you use Lab_reasons.reason_code twice in your SQL.
    What I have done since I posted this thread,
    I created a command like this
    Select *
    from rework_groups,lab_reasons
    where
    lab_reasons.reason_code between from_reason and to_reason
    Then I took out the lab_reasons table and rework_groups table, then I linked the order_status from Order_progressed table to From_gate of the newly created table (I called it Reason_Code).
    This made the report running but it is crunching quite allot of numbers. I wonder if I made a mistake somewhere?
    Oh and please note, I'd like to create an SQL (if need be) without the date entry which was done in the original SQL because I'd like to setup my own date range within Crystal Reports instead of getting passed by SQL itself.
    This is how it looks like in Crystal now.
    sae1_live
    SELECT order_progressed.date_created, order_progressed.order_no, order_progressed.order_status
    FROM   kevin.order_progressed order_progressed
    WHERE  (order_progressed.date_created>={ts '2008-01-01 00:00:00'} AND
    order_progressed.date_created<={ts '2008-12-17 00:00:00'})
    EXTERNAL JOIN order_progressed.order_status={?sae1_live: Reason_Code.from_gate}
    sae1_live
    Select *
    from rework_groups, lab_reasons
    where lab_reasons.reason_code between from_reason and to_reason
    EXTERNAL JOIN Reason_Code.from_gate={?sae1_live: order_progressed.order_status}

    Hi,
    Do the following,
    Step 1:
      Fill your internal table with select query.
    Step 2 : Use DESCRIBE statement with LINE addition to get the no of rows in the internal table.

  • Extracting the result of a query into a internal table

    Hi,
    Does anyone knows or have an idea how to extract the result of a query into a internal table, is there a function module or BAPI?
    Thanks in advance,
    CK

    So then normally I would use a statment like:
    IFunctionTemplate ftemplate = repository.getFunctionTemplate("<b>BAPI_SALESORDER_GETLIST</b>");
    to call a particluar function, but I tried using
    IFunctionTemplate ftemplate = repository.getFunctionTemplate("<b>BAPI_MDDATAPROVIDERBW_GETCATALOGS</b>");
    and it did not seem to work. I also tried -
    IFunctionTemplate ftemplate = repository.getFunctionTemplate("<b>MDDataProviderBW.GetCatalogs</b>");
    How do I format the function?

  • Oracle Sql Query issue Running on Different DB Version

    Hello All,
    I have come into situation where we are pruning sql queries on different DB version of Oracle and have performance issue. Let me tell you in brief and i really appreciate for your prompt response as its very imperative stuff.
    I have a query which is running on a DB of version 7.3.4 and it takes around 30 mins where as the same query when run on 8i it takes 15sec., its a huge difference. I have run the statistics to analyze on 7.3 and its comparatively very high. Question here is, the sql query trys to select data from same schema table and 2 tables from another DB using DB link and 2 other tables from another DB using DB link.So,how can we optimize this stuff and achieve this run as same time as 8i DB in 7.3. Hope i am clear about my question, Eagerly waiting for your replies.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Difficult to be sure without any more detailed information, but I suspect that O7 is in effect copying the remote tables to local temp space, then joining; 8i is factoring out a better query to send to the remote DBs, which does as much work as possible on the remote DB before shipping remaining rows back to local.
    You should be able to use EXPLAIN PLAN to identify what SQL is being shipped to the remote DB, If you can't (and it's been quite a while since I tried DB links or O7) then get the remote DBs to yourself, and set SQL_TRACE on for the remote instances. Execute the query and then examine the remote trace files, And don't forget to turn off the tracing when you're done.
    Of course it could just be that the CBO got better,,,
    HTH - if not, post your query and plans for the local db, and the remote queries.

  • Problems using SQL*Loader with Oracle SQL Developer

    I have been using TOAD and able to import large (milllions of rows of data) in various file formats into a table in an Oracle database. My company recently decided not to renew any more TOAD licenses and go with Oracle SQL Developer. The Oracle database is on a corporate server and I access the database via Oracle client locally on my machine. Oracle SQL Developer and TOAD are local on my desktop and connected through TNSnames using the Windows XP platform. I have no issues with using SQL*Loader via the import wizard in TOAD to import the data in these large files into an Oracle table and producing a log file. Loading the same files via SQL*Loader in SQL Developer, freezes up my machine and I cannot get it to produce a log file. Please help!

    I am using SQL Developer version 3.0.04. Yes, I have tried it with a smaller file with no success. What is odd is that the log file is not even created. What is created is a .bat file a control file and a .sh file but no log file. The steps that I take:
    1.Right click on the table I want to import to or go to actions
    2. Import Data
    3. Find file to import
    4. Data Preview - All fields entered according to file
    5. Import Method - SQL Loader utility
    6. Column Definitions - Mapped
    7. Options - Directory of files set
    8. Finish
    With the above steps I was not able to import 255 rows of data. No log file was produced so I don't know why it is failing.
    thanks.

    I've searched but really found nothing indicating problems with this class. Is this an NLS problem?

    Well - I don't have to look for that setting - I know it's set to excatly that - because I did that ;)
    I cannot use the JDBC built into OC4J. First, it's using CLASSES12DMS - secondly I use XDB. Even if it was using OJDBC14 it most likely would not be "binary compatible" with the XDB from the 10g RDBMS. I've had this problem on the AS 10g of OC4J and I did try it on this one too. XDB crashes out with basically the same error -just different library.
    My issue is integration into OC4J. This application works outside OC4J (the method that fails work). By simply setting CLASSPATH to the OJDBC14 from the instant client, LD_LIBRARY_PATH to the *.so files from the same instant client, plus XDB from the 10g home, and XMLPARSEV2 - the connection succeeds and data is retreived etc.
    NOW - the exact error here I think I identified. OC4J loads ORAI18N - an older version (at least different from) compared to the one that comes with instant client. I put the instant client's ORAI18N in the "pre-path" load (that setting you refer to) and I'm now at a different loader constraint for sql/oracle/OPAQUE. Trying to identify which library, if any, that OC4J is providing which shouldn't be there.
    I've read the note that explains how to install a different version of JDBC with OC4J. Problem is, that instant client doesn't come with CLASSES12DMS - and secondly I've tried to replace the DMS version with a link to OJDBC14 and it staill failed.
    In a way this particular thread got resolved last night - but I still have the same basicly problem. Getting a different JDCB version using OCI to work from within OC4J 10.1.x.

  • Clarification on using function in where clause of oracle sql query

    Dinesh,
    remind that when you use a function in the where clause it normally will get started for each record in the table.
    So your answer is two-fold:
    1. make the function only start when needed by adding a function based index on the table (this will make inserts and updates slower)
    2. make the function faster by adding the DETERMINISTIC clause if possible. this will make Oracle "cache" the result of the function.

  • Oracle SQL Query from EXCEL 2007 with prompt

    Hello,
    I have many excel reports where I am pulling information from our Oracle 9 db through Excel using the following method:
    http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/microsoft-excel/how-to-query-oracle-from-excel-2007/
    http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/2009/11/30/sql-query-in-excel-2007/
    However, I am having trouble when I try the following query due to the prompt:
    SELECT
    IM.ITEM_GROUP,
    IM.ITEM,
    IM.DESCRIPTION
    FROM
    LAWSON.ITEMMAST IM
    WHERE
    IM.ITEM = '&ITEM';
    Does any one know how I can connect a prompt to an excel cell and then pass the query on to Oracle, or have a PL SQL prompt work from Excel?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    The 'prompt' as you call it is a sqlplus feature, so does not belong to the SQL language
    You would need to write a stored procedure returning a resultset.
    create or replace procedure foo(rc in out sys_refcursor, p_item) as
    begin
    open rc for
    'SELECT
    IM.ITEM_GROUP,
    IM.ITEM,
    IM.DESCRIPTION
    FROM
    LAWSON.ITEMMAST IM
    WHERE
    IM.ITEM = '||p_item;
    end;
    and call that using ODBC or asp.net
    Obviously this is profusely documented.

  • Why does Oracle SQL query returning a date field without the time component

    Hi,
    I'm a novice SQL user & hv just installed Oracle SQL developer (Version 3.0.04, Build MAIN-04.34).
    I made the same SQL query using "Oracle SQL developer" & "TOAD for Oracle 9.0.1" but I got 2 different format on the same date field:
    On TOAD, I get the date field extracted as *04/26/2011 23:12:58*
    On Oracle, I get the date field extracted as *26/APR/11*
    Why is the Oracle result in a different format & missing the time component?
    Is there any option/preference that I need to set in Oracle SQL developer to get the full date/time format displayed?
    I've tried to set my the date format to DD/MON/RR HH12:MI:SSXFF AM under the preference -> database NLS but I still get the same format!
    Plse help!
