Loading column with time only format

My DB , 11gR2 on OEL 5.5
Hi all
I have a problem with loading external table. I have txt file with column format HH24:MI:SS
START_TIME
00:10:20
01:15:11
02:11:10And I don't know wich data type use in external table because in future I will need to do some calculation on that column so I should load it as DATE, but I'm missing 'mm/dd/yy' at front. Any suggestion how to do it in right way ?

You could use a CHAR or DATE datatype for the external table, and do your math with this column properly.
The key is that converting a time string to a date datatype will add the current date to it. For example:
SQL> alter session set nls_date_format='dd/mm/yyyy hh24:mi:ss';
Session altered.
SQL> select to_date('00:10:20', 'hh24:mi:ss') from dual;
TO_DATE('00:10:20',
01/02/2011 00:10:20Here are sample code for both cases, using DATE and CHAR datatype. I have tested it on 11.2.0.1:
CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY ext_tab_dir AS '/tmp';
-- /tmp/info.txt
1,00:10:20
2,01:15:11
3,02:11:10
alter session set nls_date_format='dd/mm/yyyy hh24:mi:ss';1) using DATE datatype
drop table tab_time_date;
CREATE TABLE tab_time_date (
  key VARCHAR2(5),
  start_time date)
  ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL (
     TYPE ORACLE_LOADER
     DEFAULT DIRECTORY ext_tab_dir
     ACCESS PARAMETERS
      (FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
       (key char(5),
        start_time CHAR(8) DATE_FORMAT DATE MASK "HH24:MI:SS"
      LOCATION ('info.txt'));
select * from tab_time_date;
KEY   START_TIME
1     01/02/2011 00:10:20
2     01/02/2011 01:15:11
3     01/02/2011 02:11:102) using CHAR datatype
CREATE TABLE tab_time_char (
  key VARCHAR2(5),
  start_time char(8))
  ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL (
     TYPE ORACLE_LOADER
     DEFAULT DIRECTORY ext_tab_dir
     ACCESS PARAMETERS
      (FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
      LOCATION ('info.txt'));
select key, to_date(start_time, 'hh24:mi:ss') from tab_time_char;
KEY   TO_DATE(START_TIME,
1     01/02/2011 00:10:20
2     01/02/2011 01:15:11

    ... (this is a time worked by date and not always entered on the date worked)--
    "Time" in Numbers is always "Time of Day", and is always part of a Date and Time value. "Amount of Time" is a Duration value, which may be displayed in a similar format to "Time of Day," but is a different type of value.
    If you are entering the number of hours and minutes worked, format the column as Duration, set the units and the format in which you want to have the value appear.
    The Date column will still contain a Date and Time value (Jan 1, 2011 00:00:00 in the cell shown in the example), but the "Time Worked" cells will contain only a Duration value.
    Incidently, the Date in A2 was entered as "jan 1" (without the quotes). Numbers automatically adds the current year and the default time value, then displays the result in the closest format to what you've entered, or in the Date and Time format you have chosen.
    The Duration value in B2 was entered as 3:15 (as displayed). Note that in the entry bar the duration is displayed as 3h 15m, probably to distinguish it from a similarly formatted (Date and) Time value.

  • Help me out to create column with time format

    Hi all,
    please help me to find the query to Create a table with 3 columns and insert the following data
    ENTITYID| CHGDATE | CHGTIME
    ======= ==================== ========
    4214984| 02-OCT-06 12.00.00.000000 AM | 07:23:57
    4214985| 11-SEP-08 12.00.00.000000 AM | 10:52:19
    and Update the first row of the above table as follows
    4214984 | 02-OCT-06 07.23.57.000000 AM | 07:23:57
    need to update the CHGDATE column with time of CHGTIME column.

    As already said by Hans and Hoek: you should get rid of that chgtime column. Storing information twice only leads to extra storage and the need to keep them both in sync, without any benefit.
    An example which also shows a possible way to only update the time information. Lots of other ways are possible as well.
    SQL> create table entdate

  • Not able to save date column with custom date format. in OBIEE 11g

    Hi,
    I have migrated one report from OBIEE 10g to 11g. There is a date column with customized date format(i.e. Default format is 'dd-MMM-yyyy' and I have used 'MMM-yyyy').

    Thank you for this response.  I have tried this but when I start enterring $ amounts some, such as $6.00, go in OK others such as $4.00 appear as a date ie 4 Oct 12.

  • How to load date with time zone using sql loader???

    Hi All,
    How to load following value in the table using SQL loader.
    [11/Jan/2006:15:20:14 -0800]
    What should be the datatype of the column in the table. I have tried with "timestamp with local time zone", but unable to load the record using sql loader. What should be the format string in the loader control file to load this type of record.
    Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.
    Sameer

    Try something like this in your control file:
    mycol char "TO_TIMESTAMP_TZ(mycol, 'DD/MON/YYYY:HH24:MI:SS TZH:TZM')"
    [pre]

  • To_date for use with time only

    I need to take strings like '12:30 PM' and convert them to the format HH24:MI. When I attempt this using TO_DATE I get an error that date format picture ends before converting entire input string. The statement I have been using for testing is:
    select to_date('12:30 PM', 'HH24:MI') from dualIs there a good way to do this?
    Thanks!

    I don't see the value in getting that particular time on the first day of the current monthYou're completely right about that.
    That makes me assume on some autopilot that we have another case of YASTDCOVV or YACOSTADISC
    +'Yet Another String To Date Comparison Or Vice Versa' or 'Yet Another Case Of Storing Time And Date In Separate Columns'+
    However, three other people interpreted the request the same yet different than I did so my assumption is probably wrong Only Evaleah can tell....

  • HR load failing with time intervl overlap issue

    Hello Gurus,
    I am trying to do a full load to 0Person from SAP r3 and getting the following error message.
    The time interval ['99991231'/'19360930'] & (from/to) for the data records 1 & and 128 & overlaps in characteristic 0PERSON &.
    There are thousands of records complaining for the same.
    what might be the possible reasons?? what I don't understand is that it is a full load and it is complaining.
    To my understanding a full load is one that just overwrites the existing records.

    Hello Simmi,
    0PERSON has time-dependent master data and hence while loading it will check for mutually-exclusive intervals. If the time-intervals for the records overlap with each other, you will get this error. You need to correct that.
    Hope it helps.

  • Which type of index is useful for date columns with time stamp

    Hi all,
    I am using date column in the where clause of an SQL Query. The values stored in the date column are includes timestamp. The query is very slow and there is no index on the date column.
    Can any body suggest which index is better on date columns
    Thanks

    I am using date column in the where clause of an SQL Query.Dates a re hard queries to tune. This ...
    WHERE start_date BETWEEN to_date('01-SEP-05') AND to_date('02-SEP-05')...probably requires a very different execution plan to this...
    WHERE start_date BETWEEN to_date('01-JAN-01') AND to_date('02-SEP-05')Just bunging an index on the date column may speed up your specific query but break something else. So be careful.

    I bought CS4 a while back, and only loaded it one time on a PC with Windows XP operating system. I understand I can load it 2 times. Will it work if I load it on Windows 8?

    You won't know until you try. These older versions were never extensively tested or certified on Win 8, but it should work for the most part iuf you follow the necessary procedures liuek turning off UAC and otehr fancies that may get in the way.

  • SQL Loader Oracle 10g problem in upload date with time data -- Very urgent.

    Hi
    I am trying to upload data using SQL loader. There are three columns in the table
    defined as DATE. When I tried upload a data like this '2007-02-15 15:10:20', it is not loading time part. The date stored as 02/15/2008' only. There is not time on that. I tried with many different format nothing work. Can please help me ?
    I have also tried with to_date --> to_timestamp it did not work.
    The application is going to be in production, I cannot change DATE to TIME STAMP. This is very urgent.
    LASTWRITTEN "decode(:LASTWRITTEN,'null',Null, to_date(:LASTWRITTEN,'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:Mi:SS'))",
    CREATEDON "decode(:CREATEDON,'null',Null, to_date(:CREATEDON,'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:Mi:SS'))",
    LASTUPDATEDON(21) "decode(:LASTUPDATEDON,'null',Null, to_date(:LASTUPDATEDON(21),'DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS'))"

    Your problem is most likely in decode - the return type in your expression will be character based on first search value ('null'), so it will be implicitly converted to character and then again implicitly converted to date by loading into date column. At some of this conversions you probably are loosing your time part. You can try instead use cast:
    SQL> desc t
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    LASTWRITTEN                                        DATE
    CREATEDON                                          DATE
    LASTUPDATEDON                                      DATE
    SQL> select * from t;
    no rows selected
    SQL> !cat t.ctl
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE *
    INTO TABLE T
    TRUNCATE
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' TRAILING NULLCOLS
    LASTWRITTEN
    "decode(:LASTWRITTEN,'null',cast(Null as date),
      to_date(:LASTWRITTEN,'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'))",
    CREATEDON
    "decode(:CREATEDON,'null',cast(Null as date),
      to_date(:CREATEDON,'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'))",

    Note that the dev machine is x64 Win7.
    I have not tried deploying this to staging since the issue started as I'm a bit nervous of touching the staging/live environment until this is solved.
    Removing the PlatformTarget element from the project file has no effect
    Removing the msshrtmi.dll file from the bin directory of the website project ends up with
    'Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.WindowsFabric.Common, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified'
    I have used Git to revert to the last working build to no effect (But I don't have the obj/bin folders in GIT), but it has atleast reset the project files etc.
    If I return msshrtmi.dll to the bin folder and switch the model and website projects to x64 there is no change
    If I switch both to x86 then I get an error Could not load file or assembly 'BekoModel2011' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
    which is the model project - presumably because to run on my x64 machine I need the 64bit version?
    I really need to be able to debug and then publish some changes ASAP.

    Hi,
    Is it true that you're using IIS to host the application? Could you check whether the process is x64 or x86 one via task manager or config in IIS manager?

  • Formatting a string with time stamp and double precision numbers

    %s\t%f\r%f
    This is a format string that I have in old code that I've decided to change.  Problem is I cannot make sense of the string codes in my own old code! Let me explain what I want, and hopefully someone can explain how to do it.
    I am using the format into string subvi to merge a time stamp (formatted as %m%d%Y%H%M%S%5u) and two different double precision numbers.  This string is then wired into the Write Characters to File subvi so that I can record data as a .txt file, and open it in either Matlab or Excel.  There is a minor problem with the string format above because in excel the first time stamp entry is blank, and the first loop only gives the two double precision numbers withouth the time stamp - the time stamp appears in the next loop (probably a looping issue and not due to the string format, but if you see differently please let me know).  Now what I want to do is 1. potentially fix that problem and 2. add some more doubles.
    1. Is there a string format issue that is evident that I am not seeing that causes the time stamp to be formatted into the string after a carriage return?  Or should I be looking at looping issues?
    2. How do I add another one - three floating point numbers (double precision)?  Are the \'s marking different numbers in this string constant?  Or is it the %?  I can't find any information about the \'s, but I see that % begins the format specifier.
    Ideally, I want these data in the following columns:  Date, Time(absolute), FP, FP, FP, carriage return for the next loop (FP is floating point double precision number).
    Thanks,
    Brad

    Hi JonN,
    Here there is no need of string concordinate function (in your code), the same result you can find if you connect the output of the format string to shift register, and shift register in data to initialize string connector in format into string function.

  • Iomega external hard drive either 'not found' by Time Machine or is now in 'read only' format

    I don't know what's going on with my iomega external hard drive.  Sometimes the HD is recognised by the computer; other times it isn't; if it isn't I can restore to an earlier back up via Time Machine app; but it's like the disk isn't writable.
    Ten days ago, I had trouble backing up my iMac using Time Machine.  After turning it off and restarting my external hard drive, it backed up successfully.
    However, today I am trying to back up my files, and TM tells me it can't find the external hard drive.  Nothing has changed -- I have been out of town this past week -- but somehow my HD now seems to be in 'read only' format.  It does turn on, and I could restore my computer to an earlier back up.
    "Mac OS X can't repair the disk.  You can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can't save changes to files on the disk.  Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can."
    Annoyingly, despite my HD not showing in Finder or on my Desktop (as it usually does), when I simply turn it off I get that warning message "The disk was not ejected properly".
    Have tried verifying and repairing using Disk Utility, to no avail.
    Am prompted to reformat but I don't have a good understanding of what this means and how to do it.  I'm guessing this would wipe the disk clean and I'd have to create the initial back up image all over again -- I'm reluctant to do this since this HD is my only back up and if it all goes tits up I'll be up that famous creek without a paddle.
    Thoughts, suggestions, input all welcome and deeply appreciated -- thank you!

    It's possible a heavy-duty 3rd-party disk repair app can fix it, but they're expensive (DiskWarrior is about $100), and there's no guarantee it can do it.
    Am prompted to reformat but I don't have a good understanding of what this means and how to do it.
    That will erase it.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #5.
    It sounds very much like the disk is beginning to fail, although it's possible there's a bad port, cable, connection or power supply (if it has its own).
    I'd suggest getting a new one, and using it for your Time Machine backups; once you have a good backup there, reformat the old one (and select Security Options to write zeros to the whole drive -- if that fails, you know the drive is toast).  Use it for secondary backups, per FAQ #27.   If it has failed, get a second new one for secondary backups.

  • Is it possible to loop through files in a folder, but only load those with a specific filename?

    Hello all. I have a folder with about 100 text files total, but it's really only about 25 different reports, each with multiple quarters. So, for example, it looks like this...
    Report A 2014-12-31
    Report A 2014-09-30
    Report A 2014-06-30
    Report A 2014-03-31
    Report B 2014-12-31
    Report B 2014-09-30
    Report B 2014-06-30
    Report B 2014-03-31
    Report C 2014-12-31
    Report C 2014-09-30
    Report C 2014-06-30
    Report C 2014-03-31
    ...and so on
    I need to load only report B to a table in SQL Sever 2008 R2, but I need to load all quarters for report B. I'm trying to accomplish this using a foreach loop container, but I haven't figured
    out hot to tell it to only look at report B and ignore the others. In testing, the loop always starts with report A.
    In the process, I also need to capture the date section of the filename in a variable so I can create a derived column with the date to insert into the table.
    Any ideas how to accomplish this? I'm trying to avoid putting each report in its own folder because it adds a manual step, but if there's a way to do that using a file system task before running the loop, I'm open to it.
    Thanks for any advice you have!

    Have you tried specified Report B*.txt for Files : under the Collections tab ?
