Loading Entity Framework Connection String Metadata from GAC

Hello,
I have a solution that use Entity Framework to connect to MySQL. The Class Library Project is Gaced and I need to Load the Metadata for EntityConnectionStringBuilder from the GAced assembly.
efString.Metadata = @"metadata=res://[assemlyName, Version, neutral, PuplicToken]/Model.csdl|res://[assemlyName, Version, neutral, PuplicToken]/Model.ssdl|res://[assemlyName, Version, neutral, PuplicToken]/Model.msl";
but no luck
any idea.

Hi,
I would like to understand but I don't.
This little piece of code you provided, what is it ?  Where do I use it.  From what I understand of the question,  I do not see how this solves the problem. I have the same problem here.
To get my CustomerEntities context I do CustomerEntities Context = new CustomerEntities() and we can't pass parameter to it and this is what we need to instantiate so having a class derived from DbConext what will this do and what to put in it ? I mean
How do we connect to different database then the one the CustomerEntities will use from app.config ?

  • Changing connection string host from localhost to IP address produces error

    Hi all,
    First of all, thanks in advance for your help. Second, I know next to nothing about Oracle database administration, so please be patient, but I want to understand things, rather than just running down the Google rabbit hole with guess-and-check until things happen to work and I don't know why.
    I've got a connection string that I'm using to connect to a local Oracle database I'm using for testing. I have the 11g installed and the 11.1.0.7 64-bit client (as my application is a 64-bit application) installed, both locally on my development machine. I've got a connection working using the following connection string:
    Data Source=(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = mywindowslogin.path.to.me)));User Id=********;Password=********;However, when I change "localhost" to my IP address, my computer name, or anything else, I get "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener".
    The tnsnames.ora in my database home is as follows - it was set up for me automatically when I installed the database. mywindowslogin.path.to.me doesn't point to anywhere, which I assume is correct, but my computer is on the path.to.me domain.
    LISTENER_MYWINDOWSLOGIN =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SID = CLRExtProc)
          (PRESENTATION = RO)
    MYWINDOWSLOGIN =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVER = DEDICATED)
          (SERVICE_NAME = mywindowslogin.path.to.me)
      )How can I resolve this issue?

    Does setting the environment variable affect all installations? Only two of my four Oracle Homes have a tnsnames.ora file, or event a NETWORK/ADMIN location, so I'm not sure where to put tnsnames.ora in those Homes. I copied the tnsnames.ora for my database to the one other Home that had a NETWORK/ADMIN location, but I'm still getting "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener" if I don't use "localhost" as the host.
    Thanks!

  • Using Entity Framework with SQL Azure - Reliability

    (This is a cross post from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5860510/using-entity-framework-with-sql-azure-reliability since I have yet to receive any replies there)
    I'm writing an application for Windows Azure. I'm using Entity Framework to access SQL Azure. Due to throttling and other mechanisms in SQL Azure, I need to make sure that my code performs retries if an SQL statement has failed. I'm trying to come up with
    a solid method to do this.
    (In the code below, ObjectSet returns my EFContext.CreateObjectSet())
    Let's say I have a function like this:
      public Product GetProductFromDB(int productID)
         return ObjectSet.Where(item => item.Id = productID).SingleOrDefault();
    Now, this function performs no retries and will fail sooner or later in SQL Azure. A naive workaround would be to do something like this:
      public Product GetProductFromDB(int productID)
         for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++)
            try
               return ObjectSet.Where(item => item.Id = productID).SingleOrDefault();
            catch
    Of course, this has several drawbacks. I will retry regardless of SQL failure (retry is waste of time if it's a primary key violation for instance), I will retry immediately without any pause and so on.
    My next step was to start using the Transient Fault Handling library from Microsoft. It contains RetryPolicy which allows me to separate the retry logic from the actual querying code:
      public Product GetProductFromDB(int productID)
         var retryPolicy = new RetryPolicy<SqlAzureTransientErrorDetectionStrategy>(5);
         var result = _retryPolicy.ExecuteAction(() =>
               return ObjectSet.Where(item => item.Id = productID).SingleOrDefault;
         return result;
    The latest solution above is described as ahttp://blogs.msdn.com/b/appfabriccat/archive/2010/10/28/best-practices-for-handling-transient-conditions-in-sql-azure-client-applications.aspx Best Practices for Handling Transient Conditions in SQL Azure Client
    Application (Advanced Usage Patterns section).
    While this is a step forward, I still have to remember to use the RetryPolicy class whenever I want to access the database via Entity Framework. In a team of several persons, this is a thing which is easy to miss. Also, the code above is a bit messy in my
    opinion.
    What I would like is a way to enforce that retries are always used, all the time. The Transient Fault Handling library contains a class called ReliableSQLConnection but I can't find a way to use this with Entity Framework.
    Any good suggestions to this issue?

    Maybe some usefull posts

  • How to create dynamic connection string with variables using ssis.

    Hello,
    Can anyone let me know on how to create dynamic connection string with variables using ssis?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi vinay9738,
    According to your description, you want to connect multiple database from multiple servers using dynamic connection.
    If in this case, we can create a Table in our local database (whatever DB we want) and load all the connection strings.  We can use Execute SQL Task to query all the connection strings and store the result-set in a variable of object type in SSIS package.
    Then use ForEach Loop container to shred the content of the object variable and iterate through each of the connection strings. And then Place an Execute SQL task inside ForEach Loop container with the SQL statements we have to run in all the DB instances.
    For more details, please refer to the following blog:
    http://sql-developers.blogspot.kr/2010/07/dynamic-database-connection-using-ssis.html
    If there are any other questions, please feel free to let me know.

  • VS2010, Entity Framework, and TNS Less connection strings

    I am playing around with the Oracle 11g ODP.NET stuff and the Visual Studio 2010 integration. I am trying to create and entity data model, but I am connecting to a RAC cluster with a TNS Less connection string (Example at bottom). Previously I've had to use Oracle's OLE DB drivers to connect, however I would love to be able to leverage the Entity Framework in my next project. When I go to create a new connection in my VS project, the Connection Properties dialog pops up with option to choose the Data Source. I choose Oracle, but then I don't see a way to connect in the way that I have to. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
    Connection String Example:
    Data Source=(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = someHost.prod.someDomain.net)(PORT = 9991)) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = someHost2.prod.someDomain.net)(PORT = 9991)) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = someHost3.prod.someDomain.net)(PORT = 9991)) (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = someHost4.prod.someDomain.net)(PORT = 9991)) (LOAD_BALANCE = yes) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = myService.myDomain.com)));User Id=myUser;Password=myPassword;

    Hello cshay, you're right, I had the wrong version installed. I'm sure I selected the beta first, but I suppose I downloaded the stable version after creating my Oracle account.
    Thanks cshay, and sorry to bother you all with such a question!

  • WCF Data Service from Entity Framework 5 in SharePoint 2013

    not sure which forum is best, so im going to throw it in here.
    I am working on a proof of concept. I want to create a WCF Data Service within sharepoint 2013. not only do i want to do that, i want to use the Entity Framework 5 to expose the data via OData. Now, I have crawled the internet and seen various examples of
    how to create wcf data services and wcf services in sharepoint 2010/2013. and have tried to apply those as needed to create this POC. So.. what I have done so far.
    MonitoringData.cs
    [BasicHttpBindingServiceMetadataExchangeEndpoint]
    [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Required)]
    [System.Runtime.InteropServices.Guid("0185abf6-e8b8-42e2-9965-6bb644338077")]
    public class MonitoringData : DataService<MonitoringServiceEntities>
    // This method is called only once to initialize service-wide policies.
    public static void InitializeService(DataServiceConfiguration config)
    // TODO: set rules to indicate which entity sets and service operations are visible, updatable, etc.
    // Examples:
    config.SetEntitySetAccessRule("*", EntitySetRights.AllWrite);
    config.SetServiceOperationAccessRule("*", ServiceOperationRights.All);
    config.DataServiceBehavior.MaxProtocolVersion = DataServiceProtocolVersion.V3;
    MonitoringData.svc:
    <%@ServiceHost Language="C#" Debug="true"
    Service="$SharePoint.Type.0185abf6-e8b8-42e2-9965-6bb644338077.AssemblyQualifiedName$"
    Factory="Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Services.MultipleBaseAddressDataServiceHostFactory, Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.ServerRuntime, Version=15.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %>
    upon deployment, this error when hitting the https://server/_vti_bin/poc/monitoringdata.svc/$metadata
    "The type 'xxxxxxxx', provided as the Service attribute value in the ServiceHost directive, or provided in the configuration element system.serviceModel/serviceHostingEnvironment/serviceActivations could
    not be found."
    Breaking out the google-fu, i found that adding the dll to the <compilation> section was needed for the web.config. so i did that. and now i just get a blank screen with no errors.
    so i crack open fiddler. i see the following
    200 http
    tunnel to
    server:443 0
    401 https
    server /_vti_bin/poc/monitoringdata.svc/$metadata

    0
    404
    https server
    /_vti_bin/poc/monitoringdata.svc/$metadata
    0
    best i can see is that im either not authorized, and its returning null (which shouldnt be the case) or something is just busted.
    The goal is to use ntml auth and https to connect to this service. any ideas?

    One thing I found was that it's never worth the trouble to place the WCF service in a web site running SharePoint, it's better to place it in a dedicated web site, as described in this article:
    http://sharepointdragons.com/2011/10/07/parallel-programming-in-sharepoint-2010-the-back-to-the-future-pattern/
    It's usually too much work to get the web.config settings right because of the settings it inherits from its parents.
    Kind regards,

    Lois & Clark IT Services
    web site: http://www.loisandclark.eu
    blog: http://www.sharepointdragons.com
    I'll say that it is one solution to move the WCF Service outside of sharepoint. but my "1000 mile" requirements makes this a necessity.
    To broaden the scope of what I am doing, I have a custom SharePoint Service Application. this custom application has a proxy that used a restful interface. Now, with all the methods i will have to write (over 100, x3 for all of the "proxy to a proxy" scenarios)
    I wanted to explore the idea of using odata. so i can use the various clients to write their own queries instead of me writing them all and exposing them. especially since its all linq queries to a database underneath. I feel that I am missing some specific
    component to make this work, and its surely due to my incomplete knowledge of WCF or EF.

  • Could not load file or assembly entity framework 5 .Access denied

    Hi All,
    I am using secure store applicatin id(set credentials using my windows account) to get the data from sql server using entity framework and WCF.
    When trying to run webservice I am getting below error
    System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'EntityFramework, Version=5.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.
    here i am trying to impersonate using my account. All works well when I give access to bin folder.
    But this is not correct. I can't give access to myself to bin folder or temp .
    is there anyway to get rid of this error.
    Any help is appreciated.

    I think giving access to bin or temp folder is not good. Also, EF dll in Gac is not good approach.

  • How to specifiy the provider to be Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.Client when creating a dynamic connection string with EF Code First from Database?

    I am trying to use the relatively new Code First from Database with the newest EF (6.x) and on an Oracle database (11g, but I have installed the newest ODTwithODAC). First of all, it works fine as long as the connection string is inside the App.Config file. But when I try to build it dynamically in the C# code (or rather, statically at the moment) it fails. I have it working with a dynamically built connection string when doing Model from Database though, so I'm at a loss right now.
    First, I have created a second constructor for the context class that takes a string and does base(connectionString). Then I build the connection string via
    OracleConnectionStringBuilder oracleBuilder = new OracleConnectionStringBuilder();
    oracleBuilder.DataSource = "TEST.BLA.COM";
    oracleBuilder.UserID = "ABC";
    oracleBuilder.Password = "abc";
    oracleBuilder.PersistSecurityInfo = true;
    string connection = oracleBuilder.ToStrin();
    Now trying to open an EntityConnection by giving to it this provider-specific connection string (or even the static one from the App.Config) doesn't work; I get "keyword not supported: user id"). Trying it by creating a context and giving this connection string doesn't work either. I'm pretty sure that this is because I didn't specify the provider to use; after all, it should use the Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.Client provider and not an SQL Server based one.
    I then tried to get around this by using an EntityConnectionStringBuilder on top and specifying the provider keyword there, but then I get "keyword not supported: provider" when using it in the context constructor, and "the 'metadata' keyword is always required" when using it with the EntityConnection constructor.
    As I said above: I bet it's the provider that I have to specify somehow, but I don't know how. The code that does work is the following:
    using (var context = new Model())
    context.Database.Connection.Open();
    context.Database.Connection.Close();
    When I read context.Database.Connection.ConnectionString, it is exactly the provider-specific connection string I created above, but I don't know where to specify the provider again. Do you know of any way to do this? Certainly there must be one.
    PS: I have also posted this question on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27979454/ef-code-first-from-database-with-managed-oracle-data-access-dynamic-connection because it is quite urgent and I'd like to use Code First from Database. Otherwise I'd have to go "back" to using Model from Database again, which is not ideal because we have updatable views where the .edmx-file has to be edited after every reload of the model, while with Code First from DB inserting into the view automatically works.

  • Entity Framework -  unable to select the oracle data connection

    Entity Framework - unable to select the oracle data connection from the wizard that allows you to select the data provider. Even though we successfully added a data connection that points to an oracle database, we still can't select an existing data connection or create a new database provider that points to an oracle instance.
    we are using both vs 2008 sp1 and vs 2010. We connect to oracle 11g and we use the latest oracle odp.net driver. the Driver is installed and working in vs studio.

    I had this exact problem when I started. I think I had downloaded the wrong odbc (the 64x version). When I unloaded that version and downloaded the 32bit version it worked.
    Hope that helps. ~ Darla

  • Loading Metadata from ODI to Hyperion Planning Custom Dimension

    Customer want to load a metadata from ODI to Hyperion planning customer dimension using flat files(.txt files).
    Is it possible to load the metadata into custom dimension? If this is possible, do we need any other KM for planning except RKM Hyperion Planning?
    Because when i try to map the dimension from source to taget the connection is blanck. Getting "Used by target columns none".

    Yes you can load to custom dimensions just like the other dimensions, the custom dimensions should be reversed into the model.
    You need to use the IKM SQL to Hyperion Planning, make sure you set the staging area different than the target.
    If you want to see how to load metadata to planning, have a read of :- http://john-goodwin.blogspot.com/2008/10/odi-series-part-5-sql-to-planning.html

    Hi John
    Thank you for the response
    i am trying to load accounts back to oracle table.
    My plan is to load existing accounts in planning to a oracle table i.e PLANACNT,so when i load new accounts from oracle to planning through ODI , i can say in the source filter that load Table.column not in (select accounts from PLANACNT).
    Please suggest if there is any better method for this...my plan is to load new accounts created in oracle to planning by comparing the accounts in planning.
    Thanks,

  • Connection string in listener log file for loading balance/failover

    Hi Experts,
    I have 4 node RAC for oracle 10g2 in rad hate 5.0
    We creaed service dbsale ( sale1,2 as pr imary and sale3/4 as available) with loading balance/failover.
    The remote user created a local TNS as
    localmarket =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 155.206.xxx.xx)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE = OFF)
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = dbsale))
    From server side, I saw that user send two request connection string. one fail and another is OK.
    It seems that fail connecting come from failover/loading balance from dbsale3?
    Why do we get two connection string in listener log file?
    Which difference is between two connection string?
    Where does system change these connection string?
    Thanks for your explaining.

    Hi Jim,
    I think the best way on this case is create one service with one instance as primary and another 3 as available.
    Or use the connect string with two vip addresses, cause the service has two instances and the tnsnames.ora entry has only one.

  • Config Entity Framework to use proxy to connect to the server

    Hi,
    I have my desktop application that use EF6. So the connection failed when I use the proxy.
    Also for skype or browsers but I just config the proxy on setting and there will work fine.
    So how to configure the proxy for EF6 to add proxy setting to my application ? Is there automatique way to get proxy configuration from Internet Explorer automatically ?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    >> So how to configure the proxy for EF6 to add proxy setting to my application ?
    I am not quite understand what you mean about connecting the Entity Framework with a proxy. As far as I know, the Entity Framework is a ORM item in Visual Studio, we need to host it to applications as Console, windows form and others.
    >> Is there automatique way to get proxy configuration from Internet Explorer automatically ?
    This seems to be more related with Internet Explorer, you might get an answer form the
    Internet Explorer forum.
