Loading Large XML into Oracle Database

Hi,
I am fairly new to XML DB. I have been successful in registering a schema to a table in the Database. Now, I have to load the appropriate XML into that table. I am using the Simple Bulk Loader program found on this oracle site, however, when I load my XML file I get the following error: ORA-21700: object does not exist or is marked for delete.
So, I figured maybe simple bulk loader cannot handle large files? So I reduced my XML file and loaded it with the program and it worked. However, does anyone know how I can load large files into my registered schema table.
Thanks,
Prerna :o)

Did you specify genTables true or false when registering the XML Schema ?
Does you XML schema contain a recursive definition
Is it possible that after reducing the size of the document you no longer have nodes that contain recursive structures...

  • How to load PDF files into oracle database and display them in APEX

    Hi All,
    We have a requirement for loading the Loading PDF files (lots of PDf files) to the oracle database and then display the PDF files in the Oracel APEX report.
    So that User can view the PDF files. Our current APEX verison is 3.2..
    Please let me know how to implement it and where to find the sample application!
    Thanks in advanced!

    Thanks Tony for your quick response!
    We need to load a lot of PDfs (history + current).
    I have a questions about the SQL loader. I am trying to insert a pdf file into a table by following the oracle loading sample:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/text.920/a96518/aload.htm
    Example Data File: loader2.dat
    This file contains the data to be loaded into each row of the table, articles_formatted.
    Each line contains a comma separated list of the fields to be loaded in articles_formatted. The last field of every line names the file to be loaded in to the text column:
    Ben Kanobi, plaintext,Kawasaki news article,../sample_docs/kawasaki.txt,
    But i don't know to where should I put my pdf file on the server.
    for example:
    ,../sample_docs/kawasaki.txt,
    Where is the file 'kawasaki.txt'??
    I try my local path, it didn't work. like c:\temp.
    then I loaded teh PDf file into our server(/findev20/olmtest/orafin/11.5.7/olmtestcomn/temp) , and In my data file. I put the path
    1, pdf_emp1,../findev20/olmtest/orafin/11.5.7/olmtestcomn/temp
    but I got the error: the system can not find the file specified.
    Where should I put the PDf files on the server and how to specify the path in the data file?
    Thanks!

  • Import/insert data from XML into Oracle database tables?

    Hi. (I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 and Oracle 10g)
    I have been able to export the data from one of my database tables by using a View Object and .writeXML.
    Now, I want to take an xml file that is formatted in the same way as what is spit out by the writeXML and put that info in my database table. I followed online examples and have tried using .readXML like so:
    Element element = XMLDoc.getDocumentElement();
    vo.readXML(element, -1);
    I know it is sort of working, because at first I got an error message that one of the required attributes was missing. So, I added that attribute to my xml file and ran my code. No errors. But, I checked my database, and the new records were not added.
    Is there something I have done wrong? Or is there perhaps something I left out? I also noticed there were several versions of readXML like readFromXML. Which one should I use and how?
    Thanks.

    KUBA, I changed my code to match your example:
    DocumentBuilder db = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance().newDocumentBuilder();
    File xmlFile = new File("C:/myfilehere.xml");
    Document doc = db.parse(xmlFile);
    Element element = doc.getDocumentElement();
    vo.readXML(element, -1);
    vo.getDBTransaction().commit();
    I still get no errors, but my database table has no new records.
    Any ideas why?
    Thanks.

  • Performance problems loading an XML file into oracle database

    Hello ODI Guru's,
    I am trying to load and XML file into the database after doing simple business validations. But the interface takes hours to complete.
    1. The XML files are large in size >200 Mb. We have an XSD file for the schema definition instead of a DTD.
    2. We used the external database feature for loading these files in database.
    The following configuration was used in the XML Data Server:
    jdbc:snps:xml?f=D:\CustomerMasterData1\CustomerMasterInitialLoad1.xml&d=D:\CustomerMasterData1\CustomerMasterInitialLoad1.xsd&re=initialLoad&s=CM&db_props=oracle&ro=true
    3. Now we reverse engineer the XML files and created models using ODI Designer
    4. Similar thing was done for the target i.e. an Oracle database table as well.
    5. Next we created a simple interface with one-to-one mapping from the XSD schema to the Oracle database table and executed the interface. This execution takes more than one hour to complete.
    6. We are running ODI client on Windows XP Professional SP2.
    7. The Oracle database server(Oracle 10g 10.2.0.3) for the target schema as well as the ODI master and work repositories are on the same machine.
    8. I tried changing the following properties but it is not making much visible difference:
    use_prepared_statements=Y
    use_batch_update=Y
    batch_update_size=510
    commit_periodically=Y
    num_inserts_before_commit=30000
    I have another problem that when I set batch_update_size to value greater that 510 I get the following error:
    java.sql.SQLException: class org.xml.sax.SAXException
    class java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException said -32413
    at com.sunopsis.jdbc.driver.xml.v.a(v.java)
    The main concern is why should the interface taking so long to execute.
    Please send suggestions to resolve the problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Best Regards,
    Nikunj

    Approximately how many rows are you trying to insert?
    One of the techniques which I found improved performance for this scenario was to extract from the xml to a flat file, then to use SQL*LOADER or external tables to load the data into Oracle.

  • Convert flat file to XML document and store into Oracle database

    First:
    I have a flatfile and created external table to read that file in Oracle
    Now I want to create an XML document for each row and insert into Oracle database, I think that XMLtype.
    Could you please provide me some information/steps.
    Second:
    Is there performance issues, because everyday I need to check that XML document stored in the database against the in coming file.
    Thank You.

    Oracle 11g R2 Sun Solaris
    Flat file is | (pipe delimited), so I did create an EXTERNAL Table
    row1     a|1|2|3|4
    row2     b|2|3|4|5
    row3     c|6|7|8|9
    I want to store each record as XML document. So it will be easy to compare with next day's load and make insert or update.
    The reason is:
         First day the file comes with 5 columns
         after some days, the file may carry on some additional columns more than 5
         In this case I do not want to alter table to capture those values, if I use XML than I can capture any number of columns, CORRECT!. Please make me correct If I am wrong.
         This is the only reason to try to use the XMLType (XML Document)
         On Everyday load we will be matching these XML documents and update it if there is any column's value changes
    daily average load will be 10 millions and initial setup will be 60-80 millions
         Do I have anyother option to capture the new values without altering the table.
    Please advise!.

  • Is there a feature to load XML into Oracle 9 ?

    Hello,
    I receive some XML files containing error messages from an external vendor, so i want to load these files into my database, yet i never worked with xml for import, so i dont really know if oracle has a build in feature like sqlldr, that i could make use of.
    I run Solaris 5.8, so i could surely build a shellscript to do the job, as files are consistent. Just i wanted to use oracles tool, if there is any :)

    Hi everyone!
    The following are the steps to load a excell sheet to oracle table.i tried to be as simple as possible.
    thanks
    Step # 1
    Prapare a data file (excel sheet) that would be uploaded to oracle table.
    "Save As" a excel sheet to ".csv" (comma seperated values) format.
    Then save as to " .dat " file.
    e.g datafile.bat
    1,Category Wise Consumption Summary,Expected Receipts Report
    2,Category Wise Receipts Summary,Forecast Detail Report
    3,Current Stock List Category Wise,Forecast rule listing
    4,Daily Production Report,Freight carrier listing
    5,Daily Transactions Report,Inventory Value Report
    Step # 2
    Prapare a control file that define the data file to be loaded ,columns seperation value,name and type of the table columns to which data is to be loaded.The control file extension should be " .ctl " !
    e.g i want to load the data into tasks table ,from the datafile.dat file and having controlfile.ctl control file.
    SQL> desc tasks;
    Name Null? Type
    TASK_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(14)
    TASK_NAME VARCHAR2(120)
    TASK_CODE VARCHAR2(120)
    : controlfile.ctl
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE 'e:\datafile.dat'
    INTO TABLE tasks
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
    (TASK_ID INTEGER EXTERNAL,
    TASK_NAME CHAR,
    TASK_CODE CHAR)
    The above is the structure for a control file.
    Step # 3
    the final step is to give the sqlldr command to execute the process.
    sqlldr userid=scott/tiger@abc control=e:\controlfile.ctl log=e:\logfile.log

  • Regarding loading of excel data  into oracle database

    hello,
    Can someone help me in knowing that how can we load excel sheets data into oracle database.
    I will be really thankful to you.
    Gursimran

    Hi,
    There is tool given by oracle "Oracle Bulk Loader "
    you can use this.
    But in order use this you need a control file, which specifies how data should be loaded into the database; and a data file, which specifies what data should be loaded.
    Example :- this is the control file which has information how the data is processed.
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE test.dat
    INTO TABLE test
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY '|'
    (i, s)
    Example :- test.dat which is the data file or say your excel sheet or document
    (1, 'foo')
    (2, 'bar')
    (3, ' baz')
    example of Loading :-
    sqlldr <yourName> control=<ctlFile> log=<logFile> bad=<badFile>
    sqlldr testing control=test.ctl log=test.log
    Thanks

  • How to store data from xml in oracle database

    Hello All

    any URL to this q/s would be great.

    Ben,
    The following link as some information regarding DOM API and XSQL.
    http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:2923508047773696280::NO::F4950_P8_DISPLAYID,F4950_P8_CRITERIA:17309127931717
    For XML DB, you may want to create an XMLSchema and build a table off the schema definition. Then use WEBDAV to load the xml into a folder (ie object table) Once the xml is in the database you could build a view for a relational look at the data.
    Example from XMLDB Techical White Paper doc.
    create or replace view PURCHASEORDER_MASTER_VIEW
    (reference, requestor, userid, costcenter,...)
    as select extractValue(Value(p),'/PurchaseOrder/Reference'),
    extractValue(value(p),'/PurchaseOrder/Requestor'),
    extractValue(value(p),'/PurchaseOrder/User'),
    extractValue(value(p),'/PurchaseOrder/CostCenter'),...
    from PURCHASEORDER p

  • Load flat file into oracle with SQL Loader

    Hi All,
    Oracle 9i
    I want to load flat file into oracle with the help of sqlloader but I want to skip some columns from flat file.
    Can anyone tell me how can we skip column from flat file , I can’t open flat file into excel as CSV due to large volume
    Does anyone has any solution for the same.
    Umesh Goel

    Filler can be use when we want to skip database table column or we want to put null in database table column
    but if we have 10 column in flat file and we want to load 1,2,5,7 number column from flat file
    then I think filler will not work
    If yes then plz let me know.

    so, can u guys can help me out in this
    thanks.............

    The link Pavan provided discusses Oracle Heterogeneous Services. This allows you (using ODBC) to create a database link from Oracle to a non-Oracle data source like Excel. This would allow you to query the Excel data source from SQL*Plus or any other client tool. But that is probably going to require that your Oracle database is running on Windows since I'm not aware of any Excel ODBC drivers for Unix.
    Another potential option would be to write a Java stored procedure that parsed the file. There are a few different Java libraries that can read and write Excel data files. You could load one of those libraries into the database's JVM and then write Java code that parsed the file. You would then be able to call your Java stored procedure from PL/SQL.
