Loading local content using AJAX in AIR

Hello All,
I've got a techinical question regarding loading local html5/Css/JS files into AIR's HTMLComponent. I'm very much aware that Safari's webkit implementation can handle this effectively and AIR's Webkit Implementation boasts about having nearly the same implementation as Safari's, but there still is a sanbox violation when trying to load files locally with AIR using AJAX from the HTML component. Is there a work around for this?
One of the original ideas behind AIR was to lower the security violations between web applications and local files to make them feel more desktop-like so it really doesnt make sense if a component used to display webpages contain such restrictions.
Any form of help or advice would be very much appreciated

You don't want to use FileReference in AIR for what you are
doing. Check the documentation for the mx.controls.FileSystemTree.
There are actually a handful of AIR-specific controls for accessing
the file system. There isn't a "File Open" dialog per se; you can
build your own out of the controls given. I will say that the
controls will have the flavor of the OS (so on a Mac the controls
will behave similarly to the way a Mac accessses and browses for
files).

• HTMLLoader loading local content (SWF files) problem

Hello guys,
I'm just finishing my application but I facing a problem.
I'm currently developing a desktop application using AIR.
I'm using HTMLLoader to load local SWF files when te user tries to access specific content on the application.
I successfully accomplished this, but the loaded SWF also loads other files (assets and xml files with translations) and that is not working.
When a SWF is loaded he just stops on his own loading screen (when loading the XML files).
All this stuff is happening on my CustomNativeWindow:
(my CustomNativeWindow "overlays" the main application)
public function CustomNativeWindow()
var nativeWindowInitOptions:NativeWindowInitOptions = new NativeWindowInitOptions();
nativeWindowInitOptions.systemChrome = NativeWindowSystemChrome.NONE;
nativeWindowInitOptions.renderMode = NativeWindowRenderMode.DIRECT;
nativeWindowInitOptions.resizable = false;
nativeWindowInitOptions.maximizable = false;
nativeWindowInitOptions.minimizable = false;
super(nativeWindowInitOptions);
alwaysInFront = true;
this.activate();
public function setProperties(contentName:String, contentURL:String, posX:Number, posY:Number, stageWidth:Number, stageHeight:Number):void
this.stageHeight = stageHeight;
this.stageWidth = stageWidth;
this.contentURL = contentURL;
this.contentName = contentName;
this.x = posX;
this.y = posY;
this.width = stageWidth;
this.height = stageHeight;
this.title = contentName;
this.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, onWindowResize);
SWFHTMLLoader();
private function SWFHTMLLoader():void
//REQUEST LOAD URL
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(contentURL);
//HTML LOADER SWF
htmlLoader = new HTMLLoader();
htmlLoader.width = stageWidth;
htmlLoader.height = stageHeight;
htmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onHtmlLoaderComplete);
htmlLoader.load(request);
stage.addChild(htmlLoader);
private function onHtmlLoaderComplete(e:Event):void
trace("NATIVE WINDOW HTMLLoader complete");
onWindowResize();
private function onWindowResize(e:Event = null):void
if (htmlLoader)
htmlLoader.width = stage.stageWidth;
htmlLoader.height = stage.stageHeight;
Probably something related to security?
How can I fix this?
Is kinda urgente... deadline is coming...
Thank you!

Thank you kglad for your fast response...
The reference to the content comes from a XML loaded on the main application.
var xml:XML =

<ImageSource>assets/images/gallery/resources/gameone.png</ImageSource>
<ContentSource>content/gameone/gameone.swf</ContentSource>

;
contentURL = xml.ContentSource;
So contentURL is: content/gameone/gameone.swf
Am I in trouble?

• Open local file using fileReference in AIR

I just started to build an AIR application and am facing a
very basic problem. I need a File->Open menu that pops up a file
open dialog and returns the location (including folder) of a file
to edit.
- I tried the fileReference.browse() but this does not seem
to provide the full path to the file
- I tried fileReferenceList.browse() but the SELECT event
does not fire on my Mac under (seem to be a bug reported last
October:
http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-13220)
Now, how can I achieve this in AIR? I assume opening local
file is a pretty standard operation for desktop application, any
suggestion/tip?
thanks

• Loading Flash content using loadMedia??? Or else??? Has to be XHTML 1.0 Strict and WAG valid

I have a new project into which i have to insert SWF into an HTML page using other way that the standard Abobe way to do it.
I know about Flash Satay but i have 300s Flash files to insert and dont want to reopen each of them.
My HTML pages have to W3C comply and as you know, the <classic id> or tag isnt valid regarding XHTML 1.0 Strict.
Client, who insists that his media be accessible to EVERYBODY, suggested using
"javascript:loadMedia('flashContainer','flv/v01.flv', '', '', 'fra', '','','', 'false');">

where loadMedia is a function with these parameters

Do you know about that? Can you help? Do you know any other way to insert Flash content with respect to:
- Javascript on/off valid
- XHTML 1.0 Strict valid
- WAG valid.

I am VERY concerned with the fact that my pages are not being properly validated and displayed.
I have created two different sites using iWeb '08 and while I am satisfied with the ease of use, I am concerned that my sites are not being displayed correctly... in fact, the other day my friend who is a Mac whiz and who hosts my business website on his server... tried to visit the site that I created using iWeb '08 and had published to my .Mac account... it caused his browser to flat out crash! He said he hasn't seen anything like that in years!
Here is the site I have begun to build http://www.mcleanmonowheel.com
If you paste this url into http://validator.w3.org/ a slew of errors pop up.
Is this the norm with iWeb or have I done something wrong on my end???

• Accessing loader's content using XML

Hi,
I've loaded an image into a loader from an XML file. Now I
need to access that image to change it's X position. How do I go
about doing this?
I have used the debug to list all my objects, but my image is
going to change whenever it loads a new one, so I can't use the
image name...
The array which holds my images is called propertyImage and I
would have thought I could do this:
_root.loader_mc.propertyImage[currentProperty]._x
but that didn't work
I've also tried this but it didn't work either:
_root.loader_mc.content._x
Thanks...

Hi,
LoadMovie, LoadVars, Load, Functions are independent
functions. We can't expect the Result immediately. It will take its
own time to load(According to the file size and System config). So
u have to use Any listener to Listen the Loading process. Better to
move with LoadClip class. See the help on flash help files.

• Loading local content security problem

var playlistlink:URLRequest = new URLRequest("playlist.xml");
var playlistloader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
try {
playlistloader.load(playlistlink);
}catch (e:Error){
addError("error:loading xml");
both swf and playlist.xml put into same domain. When I run
the flash there's no problem.
However, it seems not working when I embed the swf into a
html which in another domain, then there's a security problem. When
I embed swf into some blog post it even seems not running!
Anyone have any thought on that?

You'll need to have a crossdomain.xml file in domain you are
loading the playlist.xml file from.
A corssdomain.xml file might look like this. Note: This file
allows all other domains, which is probably not what you should
have in production.

<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-access-from domain="*" />
</cross-domain-policy>

this only happens in JellyBean, iOs and pre-JB is okay. i tracked it down to JB using stricter cross domain policies.

Could AIR please expose the following property on the webview: setAllowUniversalAccessFromFileURLs(true);
Or if anybody has a workarround, that would be great!

Hi Tom,
I am experiencing the same problems. Because of this, our team is still using AIR 3.5.
Somebody just opened a bug report. You should probably follow it closely: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3610032

• HT1338 how do i load windows 7 on a mac air using the super drive?

How do I load windows 7 on a Mac Air using the super drive?

You use Boot Camp to partition the SSD in the Air, download the Win 7 Support files from Apple (part of the boot camp process), save them to a USB thumb drive, have the USB superdrive connect to the Air with the Win 7 install DVD in the drive. Once partitioned the system will reboot and start the Win 7 install.

• Error message in trying to use local content in Adobe Community Help of Flash Builder

Hi,
I have set my Adobe Community Help application preferences of Flash Builder to 'Display local content only'.to Yes.
I also disabled my internet connection to use local help content only.
I get the following error message when trying to access any of the links from Help home page.
To view the requested page, connect to the Internet or deselect "Display Local Help content only" in Preferences.
I understand this is due to all the links point online HTTP urls.
But why cannot the local help content be accessed when it is already downloaded to local and the 'Display local content only' option is set to Yes?
This saves me a lot ot time otherwise using Adobe Community Help is painful even for a short period of time.
Thanks,
Ram Manoj Kongara.

Hi, Ram -
To help troubleshoot your problem, can you please do the following:
In the Adobe Community Help application, go to Edit > Preferences.
Select Local Content.
The list of Help packages downloaded locally appear. Make sure that the status of every Help packages reads “Current”. If the status of a Help package reads "Out-of-Date”, select that Help package, and click Update to download the latest Help package. Note that to do this, you have to be connected to the Internet. Once you fully download the Help packages to your desktop, you can access Help offline.
One other thing that I would want you to check is the Adobe Community Help Client version that you are using. To check that, in the Adobe Community Help application, go to File > About Adobe Help. The build version should be 3.2.0.610.
Let me know if this helps. If the issue still persists, we can investigate further.
Thanks,

• Using AJAX to load city, state, metro area based on zip code

I'm new to getting APEX to work with AJAX properly. I've been reading some tutorials and trying to apply what they do to my situation, but I'm running into a problem. I have a text field item for zip code. What I want to happen is that when someone enters in a zip code, I want to use AJAX to populate 3 different select lists (1 each for state, city, and metro area) and to populate a checkbox (of neighborhoods based on the zip code as well). I'm looking at the examples in:
http://www.oraclealchemist.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/s281946.pdf
and
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:63
But they all use examples where the value of a text field item is used to populate 1 select list. I can't figure out how to apply that methodology to populate 3 select lists and 1 checkbox item. I've got all my SELECT statements written to populate these fields based on the value of the zip code text field item, but don't know how to convert what I already have to use AJAX.
Here are my SELECT statements:
P2805_STATE lov:
===========================================================================================
SELECT INITCAP(GEO_DATA_STATE.STATEFULLNAME) d,GEO_DATA_STATE.STATE v
FROM GEO_DATA_STATE, GEO_DATA_ZIP

Andy, cool. This is starting to make more sense. THANKS A BUNCH! OK. I've gone ahead and modified the on demand process to suit my needs, so I have:
begin
owa_util.mime_header('text/xml', FALSE );
htp.p('Cache-Control: no-cache');
htp.p('Pragma: no-cache');

END LOOP;
htp.prn('</SELECT>');
end;It doesn't look like I would have to modify the appendToSelect function at all, correct? Is the checkbox that I need to populate handled the same way as these select lists? And it seems like I only need to make the 2 changes that you mentioned to get_AJAX_SELECT_XML function, right? So my javascript function should be like:
<script language="JavaScript1.1" type="text/javascript">
function get_AJAX_SELECT_XML(pThis,pSelect1,pSelect2,pSelect3,pSelect4){
if (document.getElementById('P2805_ZIPCODE').value.length == 5)
var l_Return = null;
var l_Select1 = $x(pSelect1);
var l_Select2 = $x(pSelect2);
var l_Select3 = $x(pSelect3);
var l_Select4 = $x(pSelect4);
var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=otn_Select_XML',0);
get.add('TEMPORARY_ITEM',pThis.value);
gReturn = get.get('XML');
var sels = gReturn.getElementsByTagName("select");
if(gReturn && l_Select1){
var l_Count = sels[0].getElementsByTagName("option").length;
l_Select1.length = 0;
for(var i=0;i<l_Count;i++){
var l_Opt_Xml = sels[0].getElementsByTagName("option");
appendToSelect(l_Select1, l_Opt_Xml.getAttribute('value'), l_Opt_Xml.firstChild.nodeValue)
if(gReturn && l_Select2){
var l_Count = sels[1].getElementsByTagName("option").length;
l_Select2.length = 0;
for(var i=0;i<l_Count;i++){
var l_Opt_Xml = sels[1].getElementsByTagName("option")[i];
appendToSelect(l_Select2, l_Opt_Xml.getAttribute('value'), l_Opt_Xml.firstChild.nodeValue)
if(gReturn && l_Select3){
var l_Count = sels[2].getElementsByTagName("option").length;
l_Select3.length = 0;
for(var i=0;i<l_Count;i++){
var l_Opt_Xml = sels[2].getElementsByTagName("option")[i];
appendToSelect(l_Select3, l_Opt_Xml.getAttribute('value'), l_Opt_Xml.firstChild.nodeValue)
if(gReturn && l_Select4){
var l_Count = sels[3].getElementsByTagName("option").length;
l_Select4.length = 0;
for(var i=0;i<l_Count;i++){
var l_Opt_Xml = sels[3].getElementsByTagName("option")[i];
appendToSelect(l_Select4, l_Opt_Xml.getAttribute('value'), l_Opt_Xml.firstChild.nodeValue)
get = null;
</script>
And then since all 4 items (3 select lists and 1 checkbox item) are populated based on the value inputted in the text field item, I would only need to add the following to the html form element attribute of my text field item, right?
onKeyUp="javascript:get_AJAX_SELECT_XML(this,'P2805_STATE','P2805_CITY','P2805_METRO_AREA','P2805_NEIGHBORHOOD');"Denes, thanks for the example. It seems like what I need to do is somewhere inbetween what you have and what's in the example on http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:37. I have 3 select lists and 1 checkbox item that should all be populate depending on the value entered for the text item. Do I still need to split everything up then into a function and an on demand process for each select list and checkbox?

• Calling managed bean method using ajax on jsp page loading

Hello,
I am using jsf1.1 i want to call managed bean method when page gets loaded using ajax.
Thanks

Use an ajaxical JSF framework, for example Ajax4jsf (part of RichFaces).
But why don´t you just use the constructor of the bean class to do some stuff prior to page loading?

Since that error points to gallery fla, it may mean the problem is inside the gallery swf file. What you should do is go into your Publish Setings and select the option to Permit Debugging. THat will help by attaching the line number of the problemed code. You might find it is of a line number greater than any you have in the file doing the oading which would probably make it more definitie that its the file you are loading.
Just in case you copied and pasted, the following line should have thrown up a syntax error due to missing a parenthesis...
loader.load(new URLRequest("gallery.swf");

• TS3623 "An error occurred loading this content..try again later" is the message that I get when using my Apple TV remote. I click on Breaking Bad; then I click on an episode and get the message which I just quoted. Is this a Netflix problem?

Why am I getting the following message when using my Apple TV remote on Netflix: "An error occurred loading this content....try again later?

Make sure DNS is set to ISPs (settings - general - network - DNS should be set to automatic). Trey rebooting ATV, and router. Make sure all are up to date.

• Keep getting a pop up at the top of many websites I visit 'firefox security error content at *web address* may not load" I am using the most recent firefox and windows 7.

Keep getting a pop up at the top of many websites I visit 'firefox security error content at *web address* may not load" I am using the most recent firefox and windows 7. This is happening at many sites, such as hotmail, google reader, and many others.

Sorry, I don't think that is a message from inside Firefox, the wording doesn't sound correct - at least the beginning of that message. My "gut" thinks that is a MSN Live message to explain and compensate for their lack of security with a re-direct from a secure domain to an un-secure domain. ''(the end of that message)''
{Ctrl + Shft + J} will open the Firefox Error Console - I'm curious what Firefox has to say about that situation. If you find the error message for that domain, you can right-click the message to '''copy''' it and then paste that error message here.
Maybe '''TonyE''' or '''cor-el''' will be more familiar with the situation at Live and maybe at Google Reader, I don't use either of those services and have never seen a message like that myself.

• Loading external .swf content using a button in CS5 AS3

My project has about 400 independent files. It was originally created in AS2 using the following script.
on (release){
loadMovie("A_002.swf", _root);
This same script is used every time I need to load the following .swf movie.
I would like to use a similar (equivalent) script using AS3. (Please note that the objective is not to load dynamic content into a particular file as when creating a "Gallery". My objective is for the new loaded movie to applear in its own screen. At the same time the file on scree shall unload completely or dissapear.
I have been trying to achieve the above result for a long time with no luck. I mean a long time a couple of months. PLEASE HELP !!!!!!

I have tried the following:
back_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, mouseClick);
function mouseClick(event:MouseEvent): void {
varLoader:Loader = new Loader();
loader.load(newURLRequest("file_to_be_loaded.swf"));
addChild(loader);
This script loads the file. However, it loads on top of the loader file. My goal is that once the called file loads up, the previous file will leave the screen leaving only the loaded file.
NOTE: The objective is not to build a gallery. This optionn is used instead ob having 400 different scenes. Each .swf shall be loaded independently of all other .swf/s.
Thanks for your help.
