Loading select list cascading lov

I have three select list which each have a cascading parent lov, except the first one.
1.- TOOL
2.- CATEGORY
2.- SUBCATEGORY
Of those 3 select list items... what I save is the "return value" of the subcategory, which is an ID. So the problem appears when I try to edit the information after I save it. I tried to fetch the information in the "source type" area with a "sql return value" and also with the "default value" area, but it showed errors when I want to create a new record... So I'm wondering if I can bring the data with javascript or another manner... thanks
regards, bernardo

Hi Bernardo,
the problem on your page 3 is that P3_CATEGORY isn't populated by a database column. That's why when you view an existing record it will not show anything. And because the value is NULL, your 3rd LOV (P3_CATEGORY_ID) will not find something because P3_CATEGORY is null or has an invalid value.
You have two options:
1) Add CATEGORY as database column to your PROBLEMS table or
2) Use a computation or process to fetch the CATEGORY based on your sub category (P3_CATEGORY_ID) and populate P3_CATEGORY with that value. This computation/process has to fire after the "Fetch" process.
See my example computation on page 3. In addition I have also set P3_TOOL as "Page Items to Submit" for LOV P3_CATEGORY_ID, because you should always specify all the columns which are used in the SQL statement in "Cascading LOV Parent Item(s)" or "Page Items to Submit".
Hope that gives you a direction.

Patrick

  • Item(select list) with LOV and Report with link = changed value item

    Hello,
    On one page I have:
    - Item 'P_name' (select list) with LOV to select name of a person;
    - Items 'factory' and Report 'factory'(standard created with 'Form with Report' on the same page).
    Situation:
All works fine. I selected first a LOV Item 'P_name' (say 'Jane'). But....
Only when I select a record (to change the values) from the report 'factory' then LOV Item 'P_name' become empty. Report used a link to the same page to fill the report items 'factory' and make also the LOV item empty.
    Question:
I have made a process that write the name 'Jane' to table.
    I see two possibilities:
    - LOV Item value => fill the LOV item with 'Jane' from the table before region. Is this possible?
    - Report => What is the buttonname of reportlink? I can use this name in the processes.
    Thanks Walter!

    1) what i meant was for you to test this ridiculously huge LOV outside of htmldb, but it occurred to me last night that you could, in fact, be hitting a limit of ours. after some poking around, i have confirmed that. select list items in htmldb are currently limited to 10,000 rows. this was initially done for performance reasons, but they're now opening up the restriction. if you really need to work with that many rows where the user is allowed to pick from a set of values, consider using a popup item type instead. it'd help your app performance as well (in my test cases, it stank to have to wait for my 10k select list rows to come down to my browser).
    2) sorry to not have been more clear about this, but when you set your item's "Source Type" back to "Database Column", you'd have to specify that column in the "Source or value expression" field. also, you can't put a sql query into that "Post Calculation Computation" field. as i said before, "you can take a look at the attribute-level help for that field to see implementation examples."
    3) stick with "Always..." for now if you're using our auto-dml process(es)

  • Accessing display values of a select list (or LOV)

    Hi all,
I was asking myself if it is possible to access the display values of a select list (to be added to a report header and to the Head section of a pdf export),
and to call them in form of the &xxxxx. notation
e.g. if &P10_REGION. return the selected value (e.g. 1), I would like to have the corresponding display value (e.g. USA) .
    Kind regards,
    Boris

    Thank you Graham,
unfortunately I'm a newbie regarding Javascript. Reading the APEX help, I could understand something but not everything.
I would enter into the page html body the following script
    <script type="text/javascript">
    document.getElementById('P10_hiddenItem').value = document.getElementById('P10_referenceItem').text;
    </script>
    Is this the correct approach?
how should I then submit the page?
    Thank you,
    Boris

  • Apex 4.0 Cascading Select List: ajax problem with german umlaute

    Hi everybody,
    Apex 4.0
    Dad PlsqlNLSLanguage: GERMAN_GERMANY.WE8MSWIN1252
I have problems with german umlaute and ajax cascading select lists (Cascading LOV Parent Item).
The data is populated without a page refresh in the select list when the parent select list changes but special signs like german umlaute are shown as weird characters.
Seems like there is some charset problem with ajax.
This is the only part of the application where special signs like umlaute are messed up. Everything else is fine.
I allready tried to figure out if I can escape the umlaute in the javascript (file apex_widget_4_0.js) but no success here.
Can anybody help me with this issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    Markus

    Hi Markus,
your specified character set in your DAD is wrong. As mentioned in the installation instructions at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17556_01/doc/install.40/e15513/otn_install.htm#CHDHCBGI , Oracle APEX always requires AL32UTF8.
    >
    3. Locate the line containing PlsqlNLSLanguage.
The PlsqlNLSLanguage setting determines the language setting of the DAD. The character set portion of the PlsqlNLSLanguage value must be set to AL32UTF8,
regardless of whether or not the database character set is AL32UTF8. For example:Regards

  • Select List (Parent/Child) LOV

I have the Easy Oracle HTML-DB book, they give an example of a
Parent Child Select List using a query.
Does anyone know how to apply the Parent/Child relationship with
a List of Value generated from a table.
    Example
    Parent Child
    Car Pontiac
    Car Buick
    Car Cadillac
    Car Nissan
    Truck Tahoe
    Truck Silverado
    Truck F150
    Truck Titan
The parent(s) in the above example are Car/Truck, the children are in the adjacent column.
Objective: When the parent "Car" is chosen, only the "Pontiac/Buick/Cadillac/Nissan" will be available, once the child is selected,
wish to submit to a empty table that can grow dynamically.
    OS: Windows: XP
    Oracle ver.: 10g
    Apex ver.: Release 2

    Hi,
are you just having one table storing all the values?
    1) Create a "Select list with Submit"
    2) Lov query would be something like
    SELECT DISTINCT
           CAR_TYPE AS D
         , CAR_TYPE AS R
FROM WHATEVER_TABLEThe distinct is only because you have mixed your parent and child values in one table instead of having two separate tables with a FK from the child to the parent.
    3) Create another "Select List"
    4) Lov query would be something like
    SELECT CAR AS D
         , CAR AS R
      FROM WHATEVER_TABLE
WHERE CAR_TYPE = :P2_CAR_TYPE-> in the where clause you restricting the second lov with the value the user has selected in the first select list.
The first "Select List with Submit" will trigger a full page refresh when you select a car type. If you want to avoid that you can use the AJAX based "Cascading Lov" feature of my ApexLib Framework (see http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=33231:4 ) or search on the forum for "cascading lov ajax" for other similar solutions.

  • OnChanger="get_ajax_select_xml(this);" with  select list (query named LOV)

    Hello,
i used Vikas'example Re: cascading lov for tabular form
i have a problem with Select list (query based LOV)
when run tabular form i have the following error:
    report error:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
the number of rows of the Lov are 900
the display variable is 70 char
    is there any limit?
    Thank in advance

    Leo,
Thanks for the response, but I don't think you quite understand my problem. If I go to the Column Attributes screen for the group_id field, I have the "Display As" drop down set to "Select List (query based LOV)", not "Select List (named LOV)". This requires that the sql query be written in the "List of values definition" text area below. Within that text area I have the following query:
    SELECT DISPLAY_NAME, GROUP_ID
    FROM APPLICATION_GROUPS
    WHERE APP_ID = ?????
    ORDER BY 1
The APP_ID that I need to reference is for the current row of data that is being processed. Therefore, I can't use a :PNNN_APP_ID variable, because that field does not exist on the page.
Hopefully this explains it a little better.
    Thanks,
    Kris

  • Select List (query based LOV) in a wizard created report form

I have created an updatable report form with 3 columns:
    app_id
    user_id
    group_id
Each app_id has multiple group_id's associated with it, and I want to show the group_id field as a Select List (query based LOV) that contains the groups associated with the app_id.
My query for the select list needs to be similar to the following:
    SELECT DISPLAY_NAME, GROUP_ID
    FROM APPLICATION_GROUPS
    WHERE APP_ID = ?????
    ORDER BY 1
The problem is, I don't know how to reference the app_id from the main report to replace the ?????.
In other words, if my report returns 2 rows of data like this:
    app_id----------user_id----------group_id
    1-----------------24------------------3
    2-----------------24------------------15
Then how do I get the group_id column to be a select list of possible groups for each application? If app_id 1 has 3 groups associated with it, 3, 4, & 5 and app_id 2 has 2 groups associated with it, 15 & 16, then those each of the select lists should be based on the app_id.
    Hopefully I explained this clearly.
    Thanks,

  • HTMLDB 2.0 bug - tabular forms - select list from named LOV

    Hi!
Changing a column in a tabular form to 'select list (named lov)' gets the following error in HTMLDB 2.0 when you try to add a row (to an empty table in my case):
    PL/SQL error at column 133.
Create a table and then create a tabular form on it. Then change a report column to be a 'select list (named lov)'. Save and run the form and the error occurs.

  • Select List (query based LOV) in V. 4.1.1.00.23

    Hi guys,
I am having some problems with an APEX application that I have exported from V. 4.1.0.00.32 and imported on V. 4.1.1.00.23.
I have a Tabular Form region where I have a column which is Display As "Select List (Query based LOV)".
If I add a new row - choose a new value (not the same as any of the above rows) and "Apply Changes"/"Submit" the value in the new row changes to the value of the 1. row of the tabular form :-( I can update this new row and then it saves the right value... It looks like it is only when inserting a new row.
Is this a bug or is it a feature ;-)
    Hope you can help...

  • Loading multiple dependent select lists

What is the best way to load select lists that are dependent on the previous one?
    ex.
    Select School
based on school you select the subjects
    select subject
based on subject you select the courses,
    etc
I'm trying to stay away from as much javascript as possible.
    thanks for the help!
    Michael

You can use javascript, or resubmit the page and laod the dependant select list based on what was selected.

    Hi,
I just want share this if you are still in older version of Apex and you use jQuery.
I did made "plugin" for grouped select list
    See sample here

    Hi Matt,
which version of APEX are you currently on?
With ApexLib Framework you can have cascading select lists in normal forms, but not in a Report or Tabular Form. Also refreshing a Report when changing a select list doesn't work out of the box. You would need to add some javascript. But i think this isn't what you wanted.

  • How to refresh page after selecting value from LOV item , in a tabular form

    Hi ,
I have a tabular form, which contains 2 items(columns), of type "Select List - named LoV".
    Now, couple of issues here.
    1.
2nd item(column) in tabular form, that LoV should get populated based user's selection value in first item LoV. So how do i refer to the value, that user selected in first item's LoV? I will have to use this reference in LoV query of my 2nd item ( on this tabular form)
    2.
How can we refresh the page, when user selectes value in first item ( from LoV). As this is a tabular form, here item type is Select List, we dont have an option to pick item type as Select List with Submit. So problem is that when user selects value for item 1, refresh does not happen and item 2 LoV does not get populated as per user's selection in item 1.
Please help here. Would be really appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rave.

Thanks Ben and Dan for your responses.
Ben, your solution helped me with refresh of page, as page got submitted.
This answers to my 2nd question. However, I still need to know first question, which basically is, how do i refer to the value, that user selected in first item LoV.
Issue is, I selected the value in first item LoV, it got submitted and page fot refreshed. But after page refresh, first item LoV loses its value that I had selected last time. It does not retain the selected value after refresh.
I have an unconditional process, that on every submit(refresh) of page, I set my items with their corresponding values. But problem is what do i mention there to refer to this item.
I looked in view source of my page, this item is referred as f03.
So i used "apex_application.g_f03", to set this item to its value, in my uncoditional submit process. But it did not work. I tried to refer this item as "f03" in this unconditional submit process. But still it did not help, the selected item loses its value after page refresh(submit).
Any help here would be really appreciated. Please suggest how do we refer to this item's selected value.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ravi.

  • Not Allowing a Value to be Selected in a Select List

    Version 4.1.1.00.23
    Hello,
I've created a Select List to display Projects within a Department (we call them Groups).
A Group will have Projects, however, more than one Group can have a Project with the same name.
So my query for the Select List displays the data in a Hierarchical format like this:
    Group 1
        Proj Grp 1
        Proj Grp 1
        Proj Grp 1
        Proj Grp 1
        Proj Grp 3
    Group 2
        Proj Grp 1
        Proj Grp 1
        Proj Grp 2
        Proj Grp 2
    Group 3
        Proj Grp 1
        Proj Grp 2
        Proj Grp 3
What I'm looking for is to NOT allow the 'Group' level to be selected within the list. Only allow the Project level values to be selected.
    The query is:
    WITH t
         AS (SELECT 'Group: ' || vg.group_name name
                   ,vg.group_id
                   ,NULL id
                   ,1 AS weight
             FROM   vertical_group vg
             WHERE (vg.group_id = :P100_GROUP OR :P100_GROUP = 0)
             UNION ALL
             SELECT '....' || project_name
                   ,group_id
                   ,project_id
                   ,2 AS weight
             FROM   tbs_projects
             WHERE  status IN ('Pipeline'
                              ,'Planned - Partially Funded'
                              ,'Planned'
                              ,'Execution') AND
                    ( :P100_RYG_PROJECT = 0 OR :P100_RYG_PROJECT = ryg_proj_id ) AND
                    ( group_id = :P100_GROUP OR :P100_GROUP = 0 ))
    SELECT name
          ,id
    FROM   t
    ORDER BY group_id
            ,weight
            ,name
Can someone help me with this?
Is there additional information I can provide?
    Thanks,
    Joe

The HTML optgroup element is used to structure select lists in this way. Standard APEX Select Lists and LOVs do not have support for generating optgroup elements in option lists, but item plug-ins with this feature are available.
See the documentation for more on using plug-ins.

The field "BED' IS A SELECT LIST
    Named LOV = BEDS
So like I said, when the user insert a bed from the field "BED' , I would like to remove the value entered from that field.

The first one lists the court name (P4_COURT_NAME), the second one (P4_DEFENDANT) list all defendants who currently engaged in the court.
The problem is when I allow the defendant select list become multi-select, when it submit it only pass the first selected value.
So I create just a simple select list based one list of value, and make it allow multi-selection. When it submit, the normal select list can pass selected values properly, while the cascade LOV select list pass only the first selected value.
Please help if any of you have an idea why.
We use APEX 4.0.2.00.07, Oracle data version iis 11g

AND ce.active = 1)Source Used: Only when current value in session state is null

    The rest is default.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Chintan,
The "Source used" for those items are "Always, replacing any value in the session state". To set them to "Only when current value in session state null" sounds a good solution to me.
However, a strange thing just happened - now I will not lose the values of the items after the page reloading, although I have changed nothing in the page in my application since I asked the question. I don't understand why all of a sudden the reloading doesn't make me lose changed values any more. Let me dig it tomorrow to see what I'll find.
Thanks so much for your help.
    Christine
