Local Java to Oracle Connection

Hi
I have Intellij Java IDE and 10g XE on my PC and am trying to get connectivity between them. I am not 100% sure but does connecting to XE require some extra configuration on XE. Someone was talking about this a while back but I can't trace the documentation and the person can't really remember talking about it!
Thanks
Andrew

Here is the connection class code:
public class CreateJDBC {
public void makeConnection() {
Connection con = null;
Statement stmnt = null;
ResultSet rs = null;
try {
forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:HR/hr@//localhost:1521/XE");
stmnt = con.createStatement();
rs = stmnt.executeQuery("Select * from Jobs");
while (rs.next()) {
System.out.println(rs.getObject(2));
catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
catch (SQLException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
finally {
if (con != null)
try {
con.close();
stmnt.close();
rs.close();
catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
And this class to try and run it:
public class TestCreateJDBC {
private static ResultSet rs = null;
public static void main (String[] args) {
CreateJDBC jd = new CreateJDBC();
jd.makeConnection();
I keep getting 'Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: ConnectToDatabase.Connect' problem and don't know if I need additional libraries or change classpath. I cannot seem to find any simple solution to this problem.
Can anyone help?
Andrew

  • WebDynpro java and Oracle Connection

    Hi,
    I'm trying to make a simple connection to an Oracle database within a custom webdynpro component. Using NWDS 7.0.08 and EP 7.0 SP 10.
    Here is a sample of the java code I use :
    Connection conn = null;
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    conn =DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@hostname:port:DATABASENAME","schema", "password");
    Statement stmt=conn.createStatement();
    ResultSet rs=stmt.executeQuery("select * from MYTABLE");
    But when I run this WebDynpro, the following error appears :
    "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver".
    I have also catched the exception stack but it doesn't seem meaningful. If you need it, I can provide it in another thread.
    So What should I do to connect to this oracle database ? Is it the right provider ?
    Thanks,
    Loïc LEVEUGLE

    Hi!,
      please try following code, this is working fine for me.
    String  serverName = "172.21.1.62";
    String portNumber = "1526";
    String sid = "vision";
    String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@" + serverName + ":" + portNumber + ":" + sid;
    String userName = "scott";
    String password = "tiger";
    Connection connection = null;
    try {
        // Load the JDBC driver
        String driverName = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
        Class.forName(driverName);
        connection = DriverManager.getConnection(url, userName, password);
        Statement stmt =connection.createStatement();
        PreparedStatement pstmt = connection.prepareStatement("insert into club (Name,EmpID,Location,Extention,MailID,InstPlay) values(?,?,?,?,?,?)");
                   pstmt.clearParameters();
        pstmt.setString(1,Name);
        pstmt.setString(2,EmpID);
        pstmt.setString(3,Location);
        pstmt.setString(4,Extention);
        pstmt.setString(5,MailID);
        pstmt.setString(6,Instrument);
        pstmt.executeUpdate();
    } catch(Exception exc) {
         exc.printStackTrace();
    put classes12.jar in your class Path.

If the user can not login to the server or for any other reason there is a problem , there are 2 messages that are shown, one the message that java displays and the second one is the message that the oracle driver displays. I want to get these 2 messages and put them into a file but the problem is that I dont have access to the message generated by oracle driver. Hi,
    I am using one java program to connect to Oracle 11g (64 bit version) using Oracle10g 32 bit client libraries using OCI calls. Below is the program. If I compile it using 64 bit Oracle 10g libraries ($ORACLE_HOME/lib and $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib) , it perfectly connects to Oracle11g but when i compile it using $ORACLE_HOME/lib32 and $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib32, it hangs and keeps trying and takes 100% cpu usage. it does nothing. Please suggest what is going wrong in the environment.

    The ojdbc14.jar file is for use with Java 1.4 VMs.
    Are you still using Java 1.4? If so, why?
    For Oracle 11g you should be using the latest JDBC jar file (ojdbc6.jar) and the latest version of Java 1.6.
    You are not only using an old JDBC driver and Java version but are also trying to mix 32 bit and 64 bit operations.
    I suggest you start using recommended practices and update your Java and JDBC versions and select EITHER 32 bit or 64 bit operations.
    See the Official JDBC FAQ for the details on the support available for various combinations of Oracle DB, Java and the JDBC drivers:

    Is Oracle Enterprise Edition supports "POP3S" protocol?, Or Enterprise edition needs any additional configuration for establishing outlook connection with "pop3s" ?.
    Any help is appreciated

Which is working fine until my database is oracle-11g standard edition. Last week we are upgraded our database from oracle 11g standard edition to oracle 11g enterprise edition after that i can't connect to mail server through my java class which throws an error as follows.
    I suspect root cause is with Java not Oracle.
    Oracle RDBMS does NOT speak any "protocol" except SQL natively.

    Hi baftos,
    I tried to telnet remote windows machine from my local machine on port 23, its not connected and given error message like "Connect failed".
    As your response, if we can telnet to remote windows machine from local machine then we can connect from Java. Is it correct ?.

    can any body show me the code of how to connect java with oracle database.
    thank you

    To configure Oracle JDBC:
    1. Add Oracle JDBC JAR file classes12.zip or ojdbc14.zip to classpath.
    2. Load and register the JDBC driver.
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    3. Obtain a connection:
    String url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@<host>:1521:<database>
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(url,
    "myLogin", "myPassword");
    4. Create a SQL statement.
    Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
    5. Obtain a result set.
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(
    "SELECT ...");

  • Java Class to connect to oracle

    Hi all,
    I am a new in Java in database...
    I have written a java class to connect to oracle and to get some information from the databse. In the class i use the driver oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver.
    When I exeute the code in JDeveloper it works fine.
    I have loaded the classes to database (10gR2), have written the wrapper function. That all was compilled without errors.
    But when I execute the wrapper function I get in SQL*Plus my custom Error-Message from Java Code "Not able to connect to oracle".
    The oracle driver classes are owned by sys. Should SYS grant to the user any special rights with dbms_java.grant_permission?
    Or is it any other way to connect to the database, in which the java classes are loaded? The user is connected with SQL*Plus. The Java Classes are owned by the user. Should I use JDBC to connect to the same database?
    Best regards,

    Hi
    You don't need to re-connect... Have a look here...

  • Connecting JAVA to Oracle?

    Hi Folks...I am an absolute newbie in JAVA....I have Windows Media Centre installed on my machine...Also I have Oracle 10g release 2 for the same....But I haven't installed it(oracle) yet....I have also not installed Java....First and foremost give me the link to download java so that I can run my java programs from Windows Command line...also this version of JAVA should be compatible with Oracle 10g release 2 for Windows.....Actually I want to connect my JAVA to ORACLE using JDBC...I have no idea what so ever on how to achieve it..So can any one please give some online link or resource to use JDBC or suggest some good book for it........

    For the JDBC Drvier:
    www.oracle.com and search for the newest JDBC Driver
    For Java:
    java.sun.com and follow the links for JSE (Java 6) and download the JDK (not just the JSE). Then follow the links to the API documentation and bookmark that, then, in that documentation, there is also a link to the Tutorials. Bookmark that, too.

  • Oracle Connection Manager

    Hi,
    i'm having a problem configuring Oracle Connection Manager. It does start the instance of connection manager
    Summary of my environment is
    10g Application server and infrastructure machine OS: Windows 2003
    9i Database Server: Windows 2003
    Client : Java Applet
    JDBC driver type : THIN
    Installed: 10g Infra first and then 10g midiier(portal and wireless) in seperate oracle homes on the same machine. Eveything is up and running as i was able to login seperately in infra and midtier enterprise managers.
    Final Goal : Trying to connect to an Oracle 9i database on a differnt machine than the appserver using an applet, thin drivers and Oracle Connection Manager
    Problem : Connection manager instance not started however cmanADMIn service started.
    CMCTL:CMAN_oracle9-app> administer cmanOracleAS
    Current instance cmanOracleAS is not yet started
    Connections refer to (address=(protocol=tcp)(host=10.10.1.101)(port=1610)).
    The command completed successfully.
    CMCTL:cmanOracleAS> startup
    Service Oracleoracle_infraCMAdmincmanOracleAS already running.
    TNS-04012: Unable to start Oracle Connection Manager instance.
    CMCTL:cmanOracleAS>
    Steps done to configure Oracle Connection manager
    1. Copied 4 .exe (CMADMIN, CMCTL,CMGW,CMMIGR) files to bin folder of Appserver or midtier's main ORACLE_HOME/BIN folder.
    2) created a cman.ora file and copied in appservers /NETWORK/ADMIN directory
    3) On cammand prompt type CMCTL...ADMINISTER cman_OracleAS where cman_OracleAS is the name of cman instance used in cman.ora file.
