Localization issue on 10.5.3

I have just updated to 10.5.3 and all works well.. but now the login window is in english and not in italian.. (I have "back" instead "indietro", "restart" instead "riavvia".. and so on..) Can you help me?

To change the language of the login window you may need to re-run the language chooser. Normally this can be done by opening Terminal and typing:
sudo "/System/Library/CoreServices/Language Chooser.app/Contents/MacOS/Language Chooser"

• Localization issues

Would someone be so kind to point me at the right address for general Mac localization issues?
The problem is with Croatian keyboard and "@" sign - not just on iMacs, but on all Macs and MacBooks.
I thinik I have tried all official ways to sort out the problem, but no luck so far. Maybe some users from other small countries have experience in similar situations? How to get attention from Apple on this issue if you live in a small country like Croatia?

Well, our problem in Croatia is that there is no "@" sign printed on our keyboards!
The problem is super-simple to solve, but just needs a few words at the right department! It's a huge annoyance that new Mac users can't find "@" on our keyboard beacuse it's not marked - and it's just because Apple uses the same ancient Croatian layout as on first 80es Mac computers when first localization took place and when there was no email and the Internet! Unbelievable but true!
Sure, it's not a problem for an old Mac user, but every single PC switcher ask the same question: "Where is @ sign???". Also, you can't get your new Mac up'n'running if you don't fill in the Registration form at the first start - and you can't do that because you can't type in your email without "@"!
Do I have to mention that Croatian schools can't use Macs because of it? It is required that keyboard has our Croatian letters and all needed symbols - and that is not the case.
After over 5 years of complaining about this problem I got to the Apple Europe representative and he said: "We are aware about this problem and working to address it." That was 8 months ago and many new Mac products are out since then... but still no "@" on our keyboards.

• Localization Issue - Application Doesn't Read Culture Specific Resource File

Dear Sirs,
i know there are lot of thread out there about localization, but most of them go over same rule, or are not enough complete that i be able to get them,...
Here's my issue, i use win form localization for UI, and every things is fine, then i pass the culture i want to application thread before start it, and every thing goes fine.
But when i want to handle error msg's... or Etc...i use Resource file exist over Resources, and my Resharper point to that, using command like
Resource.<ResourceName>;
So after doing every thing, i made an other resource file, copy exist text item in main resource file,
put a name like Resource.en-US.resx on it and then compile it, it generate a sub folder, or maybe two,
after it i run app, with passing culcure of en-US , and then the application went right, but when it come to show code resources, like what i talked about, it used the old default culture text messages...
what should i do? where do i go wrong?
I even tried to copy the resource dll file of en-US calture in exact bin folder, but it still didn't worked.

Hello,
I am afraid that we are not clear about what the error is and how you use these resources, I would recommend you share the detailed code with us, you could comment all sensitive data or if possible you could just create a simple winform project, and reproduce
that issue, then share it with us by uploading it to OneDrive.
You could share its link here that we could focus on that project to help you.
Regards.

• Crystal Reports localization issue

Hi,
I am using Crystal Reports for .NET version 2005. Also, I am utilizing SQL Server 2005 as my database server. The problem is when I deploy applications in Spanish countries (maybe others, but did not try yet). The problem happens when dates are passed to SQL Server 2005, but only through Crystal Report engine.
I guess the question is if there is special need to localize crystal report setup?
Thanks in advance

David,
Thanks a lot for reply!
Here is the code that I use:
                        MachineProductionReport report = new MachineProductionReport();
                        SetReportLogOnInfo(report);
                        ParameterDiscreteValue discreteValue1 = new ParameterDiscreteValue();
                        discreteValue1.Value = dlg.MachineID; <- this has type String
                        report.ParameterFields["@machine_id"].CurrentValues.Add(discreteValue1);
                        report.DataDefinition.ParameterFields["@machine_id"].ApplyCurrentValues(report.ParameterFields["@machine_id"].CurrentValues);
                        ParameterDiscreteValue discreteValue2 = new ParameterDiscreteValue();
                        discreteValue2.Value = dlg.StartDate; <- this has type DateTime
                        report.ParameterFields["@start_date"].CurrentValues.Add(discreteValue2);
                        report.DataDefinition.ParameterFields["@start_date"].ApplyCurrentValues(report.ParameterFields["@start_date"].CurrentValues);
                        ParameterDiscreteValue discreteValue3 = new ParameterDiscreteValue();
                        discreteValue3.Value = dlg.EndDate; // <- this has type DateTime
                        report.ParameterFields["@end_date"].CurrentValues.Add(discreteValue3);
                        report.DataDefinition.ParameterFields["@end_date"].ApplyCurrentValues(report.ParameterFields["@end_date"].CurrentValues);
                        MainReportViewer.ReportSource = report;
The issue is that it works fine in US, but not in Chile ... Everything else works though (passing string, int, etc.)
Thanks in advance!

• India localization issues

Hi,
Can anybody let me know what issues are generally faced in case of inidia localization especially when global template (Eutopean country) is there. Ex. issues in CIN, TDS, Check printing etc. Further I would like to know that in India fiscal year is from April to March and if fiscal year of group company is Jan to Dec what would be the impact. What strategy is suggested so that global reporting and india reporting does not get distorted?

• UI localization issue

I've just notice a strange thing related to UI localization (CVI 2012 SP1).
with a text string control, if I change the character set to GB2312 and I paste a string, I properly see it with Chinese fonts
if I do the same with a ring (adding a new item), I don't see Chinese fonts (see attached)
is this an expected behavior? or a bug?

Hi Vix,
There is a known bug that can cause the paste to not work correctly. The bug id is 382556, but I don't think it has been added to the known issues list yet. The bug was introduced in version 2009 and is fixed in the version that is about to release.
The workaround is for you to not only change the character set of the Text Style font but to also change the character set of the Label font to Chinese:
Even though you don't really need to enter Chinese text into the control label, because of this bug you need to set its character set to Chinese if you want to paste Chinese text in the Edit Label/Value Pairs dialog.

• Silverlight PivotViewer v2 localization issue

Hi folks,
Context : Silverlight 5 / Pivotviewer V2 (version 5.0.5.0)
I'm working on a Silverlight 5 project that uses the great PivotViewer control. The application must manage German, English and French localization but we are facing an issue with the PivotViewer localization.
Actually, the datetime facets are not display well with the French and English cultureInfo.
I have read on this post (see link below) that The V2 control shipped with SL5 SDK does not support localization.
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/silverlight/en-US/35952a5c-a41a-4bc8-88a9-86c799234456/pivotviewer-v2-localization?forum=silverlightpivotviewer
So, I’m wondering is someone a find a workaround about the issue ? I have already found a way to display properly the dateTime into the “Pivotviewer detail” by using the Format attribute from the PivotViewerDateTimeProperty
<pivot:PivotViewerDateTimeProperty
Id="PhotoDateTime"
DisplayName="{l:StringsResx ResxKey=AlarmBasePVPhotos_PhotoDateTime, Default='PhotoDateTime'}"
Format="{l:StringsResx ResxKey=AlarmBasePVPhotos_PhotoDateTimeFormat, Default='dd/MM/yyyy hh:mm:ss'}"
Options="CanFilter"
Binding="{Binding Model.PhotoDateTime}"/>
but I’m still searching to manage the culture for the PivotViewer “filter facets” and the “sort filter” ?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Best regards,
Cedric

Hi,
Since silverlight 5 supports custom markup extensions, a markup extension can be used without resorting to binding.
Jeff Prosise provides one nice example of custom markup extension in his blog
http://www.wintellect.com/CS/blogs/jprosise/archive/2011/04/15/using-custom-markup-extensions-in-silverlight-5.aspx
Here is another article talks about this:

• Kmail, kgpg, pinentry-qt and localization issues

Someone uses Kmail with KGPG and receives mail in another language than English?
I'm having a little issue with pinentry, its quite ugly as its using GTK or some other toolkit instead of QT, and its also not displaying correctly some of the (Spanish) special characters.
Also some mails that include special characters in the subject are showed as "blocks"
Here are a couple of screenshots displaying the problem:
1) pinentry

My name should read:
Leonardo Andrés Gallego
2) special characters in subjects

And the subject should read:
Notificación ....
Its really weird, as the special characters in the body of the messages are working just fine. And not all the messages have this problem.

for pinentry-qt remove /usr/bin/pinentry (no panic, it's just a symbolic link to pinentry-gtk), and make a new symbolic link to pinentry-qt (ln -s pinentry-qt pinentry)
can't help you with the other problem though

• Localization issue with DatePicker Control in Windows Phone 8.1

Hi,
I am using DatePicker control in wp8.1. Although I am changing device language e.g. Italian, Datepicker control shows in English (Choose Date, Month and Day, app menu). I am expecting it to come according to device language.
When I set default language to Italian in Package.appxmanifest file, DatePicker shows Italian but if I change device language to English DatePicker stays in Italian language.
Any Solution to this issue? Thanks in advance !

Hi Anurag,
When you change the region and region format language in the phone you need to restart the phone else the changes will not get reflected. Please try and let me know.

• Japanese, Chinese, Korean localization issues?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has tried translating their Captivate text-to-speech narration and/or closed captions into Japanese, Chinese, or Korean. If so, are there any issues I should be aware of? Which TTS vendors did you use?
Thanks!

I am also interested in this.  I have the possibility of a very large job coming up soon that will require localisation to Simplified Chinese.
So any advice would be most welcome.

• German localization issue

Hello,
on my Curve 9320 the home screen shows a major issue while the device is set to German language.
When clicking on the bar that shows the next appointments from the calendar, the data shown is somewhat like this:
02/TT someappointment
02/TT anotherappointment
03/TT thirdappointment
It shows "TT" instead of the actual day of the month.
As soon as I set the blackberry to another language everything is fine, but not even displaying appointments correctly is a very huge bummer.
Any ideas what I can do fix this? Is that a known bug?

• Localization issue: adding strings to locale swfs

We are currently building an application that hosts flex
modules within an ASPX application. We have a "homepage" that
allows users to configure which dialogs (we call them widgets) will
show on their homepage. At this point, we have had one resource
bundle (.properties file) that we have used for all of the strings.
We compile these resource bundles in the locale swfs for each of
the 8 langauges we support.
The twist is that we also allow customers to write "custom
widgets" in Flex that they can add to the homepage if they so
desire. It sounds like they could create a custom .properties file
which would allow us to create a seperate resource bundle for the
strings for their dialog. But then would the en-us.swf have to be
recreated to include their bundle in the overall swf? If so,
wouldn't the client have to have our "standard app" .properties
file to make one cumulative en-us.swf?
Or can you have multiple locale swfs for different dialigs
(ie Standard.us-en.swf and Custom.us-en.swf)? That way our standard
strings stay seperate, but the client can still add their own?
Anyone have any thoughts?

I think you can have separate locale swf. I think you can use
loadResourceModule() to load any resource swf. See FB3 help topics:

• CS4:Mac:Debug Version:Localization Issue

Hi Folks,
I converted a plugin from CS3 to CS4 and testing it under debug version, I'm getting an assert during the launch of the plugin, it says:
"LocaleIndex resource in plugin kMypluginID of type 'PMST' points to bogus resource for locale 256, English"
I checked the "BasicLocalization" sample plugin and couldn't find anything different than I have in my code. That looks the same as mine(although I have more palettes/dialogs..), my plugin runs fine if I press continue in assert dialog and the translated strings in US/and other languages appear fine too.
I noticed the 'PMST' is in in CoreResTypes.h declared as:
#define kStringTableRsrcType 'PMST'
Does anyone know what I'm missing here or what could be wrong?
Thanks
P.S. Use Mac 10.5.5, SDK 352 , Xcode 3.1

What's "CS"? AE is included in the Master Collection and Production Premium, but not in the Web and Design suites, so maybe you simply have one of those?

• LabVIEW 2010 F2 - Crash - Localization issue ?

Hi fellows !
I am using LabVIEW 2010 F2 (French localized version) and I am facing this strange behavior. Can you confirm that this is a bug and / or this is because I am using a localized version of LabVIEW ?
When using the Modifications:VI property node  (CTRL+SHIFT+B) and connecting its output to a case structure everything works fine (it looks like that).
But now if I change the Modifications:VI property to Modifications:Front Panel and let the output of the property node connected to the case structure, LabVIEW crashes or the broken arrow appears.
If I click on the broken arrow or try to save the VI (CTRL+S), I get the following error message :
Fpsane.cpp line 442
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Thanks for the answer.
There is another bug with LabVIEW 2010 (F4 this time).
To reproduce it you have to create a (strict) type definition that consists of a cluster and put a constant which is linked to this typedef on the BD (just select the .ctl file in the BD) and then delete the type definition from the hard drive.
Close the VI that has the constant in the BD.
Re-open the VI, and in the BD, right click on the cluster constant and select "View as Icon". Now you get LabVIEW crashed. (ok it is useless doing that on a non existing typedef but this is crashing LabVIEW, so I thought this should be reported).
Keep me informed if you have any further informations about that.
Regards,
Da Helmut
