Locals Missing - Qam Scan North Jersey

I've tested multiple qam tuners on multiple PCs with the same results. Channel 5.1 (Fox) is identified from the scan. 2.1 (CBS) is not identified but can be located at 71.1025
4.1 (NBC) and 7.1 (ABC) should be on channels 72.1027 and 73.1029 respectively but are not being found after channel scans. Here is the channel data I'm using: http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/lineup_web/US:07981#lineup_8347993
I'm not sure why 72.1027 and 73.1029 are not listed after channel scans. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

I was able to add the channels. This was a combination of missing PSIP data and Media Center limitation of 3 subchannel digits. For future reference, Guide Editor is a free download that makes it possible to add channels with more than 3 subchannels, eg: 73.1029

Web DVR in North Jersey. Cant get activated.

I'm in North Jersey and about a couple a months of ago I received a message on my DVR stating I can access my and scheduale my Multi Room DVR online.
In settings under Web access for the DVR it lists "Status: Not Activated" and a web address to activate with my user name and activations code.
I went to the web address, signed in and nothing. Supposedly your prompted upon signing in to activate your Web DVR. I signed in several times on different dates, and still nothing.
Is the Web DVR rolled out in all of North Jersey? Or am I missing a step.

[Solved] Locales missing

Hi,
I'm having a problem with my Arch installation. Last time I tried to boot it it got stuck on the console login (X wouldn't start). After a lot of debugging it appeared something was wrong with the kernel. I reinstalled it and the laptop booted fine. But now it also seems something is wrong with the locales. For example I have some special characters in my PS1, and these fail now (in KDEs Konsole). Trying to list all the locales using locale -a (both as normal user and as root) it yields these errors:
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_COLLATE to default locale: No such file or directory

There are also a lot of other errors, for example bash' tab completion gives these errors:

I already ran locale-gen, but this doesn't seem to solve the problem, I also reinstalled glibc (which is the owner of both locale and locale-gen) and ran locale-gen again (which is something I think already happens in a post upgrade script), but this doesn't solve the problem either.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?

Problem solved. The en_US.UTF-8 line in /etc/locale.gen was commented. I probably overwrote my own file with a .pacnew after an update without properly checking the differences between the original file and my own file.

3 options missing for Scan - Computer

I used to have 3 options on the Scan -> Computer screen. Now I only have the Photo to File Option and this creates a jpeg I believe. How can I get the 3 options back. I've done a reset to factory defaults and used HP's Scan Doctor app. Thanks

Hi,
Assuming I fully understood your intention, while cliking Scan on the printer front panel and then clicking on Computers, only a single option appears, am I correct?
For a such, open the HP Solution Center software and click the Settings button.
Within the Scan Section select 'Scan to... Setup'.
From the left pane select the required scan shortcuts and click the Add or the arrow button to move it to the right pane.
Once any required option listed as available within the right pane click on Update the Device.
That should restore that option within the front panel.

/usr/local missing

On my macbook, the folder /local doesn't seem to be there. Yesterday I did a fresh install of OS X, and now /usr/local is not there. I need it to create part of a toolchain for a project, so anyone know where it went, or if I could just create a directory called local?

   I think the installer used to create such empty directories but maybe it doesn't now. Since they are empty, you can make them yourself. However, I would think that most of the installers that use that install root by default will create the directories for you. If you have an app that doesn't or just want to create the directories yourself, you could do it with a command like:
sudo mkdir /usr/local /usr/local/bin /usr/local/etc /usr/local/include /usr/local/info /usr/local/lib /usr/local/man /usr/local/sbin /usr/local/share /usr/local/share/man

Locales missing SOLVED

I have the locale "de_DE.utf8" set in my rc.conf.
I recently noticed a very weird problem with German charachters in my qt apps (and only in my qt apps).
I'm not sure if this is related, but in researching this I wanted to find out if de_DE.utf8 is even a valid locale, so I did what the comments in rc.conf said:
# locale -a
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory

I'm a little freaked out now. Where the hell are my locales?
Edit: Solved. IMHO, there should really be something about running locale-gen in the installation docs. Those only tell you to add your locale to rc.conf, that's it.

I did try without re-booting but as soon as I issued locale -a it would return

so I decided to reboot and it worked just fine after that.
The only thing that annoys me about that is that rebooting is not a *nix thing and we should not have to do that.
I'm sure there is a way to do it without that step.
BTW, I did try quitting the session and logging back in as suggested by Snowman (good thinking there my friend) but it did not work for me.

Edit: On re-reading kamagurka's post I realize you did something different "source /etc/profile". May be that's the answer and the *nix way.

Fios tv outage, north jersey

anyone else have no fios tv in north jersey

TV and telephone outage in Yardley, PA. Dial tone on phone works but can't make calls - rapid busy signal. Tried calling Verizon on both land line and cell and get same rapid busy. Online support not working either. Error messages instead of help. What's going on? How widespread is this? When will it be resolved?

Strategy for Importing Thousands of Scans?

A friend has scanned close to 500 rolls of 35mm film for me. He is sending me DVDs with the JPEG scans. I'm fully aware of the database power of Aperture. Since the scans aren't in any particular order and lacking structure, I foresee just importing them into one huge project. And then, for organization, I'll add keywords and then group a half dozen categories of images by creating smart folders. (I"ve read The Well-Trod Path, and want to employ Apeture to provide the structure). I don't care about chronology and don't want nested folders. I want a smart database.
Does that seem like a reasonable strategy?

Well, l won't be receiving this huge archive by FedEx for a few months. So I don't know how many
DVDs, the size of each of the organization. The scans are being made with an old Nikon Coolpix. And since the negatives were for the most part in those fold-out sleeves, with one sleeve for each roll, I would expect that the sequential files grouped by roll. .
Same for the color slides which were mounted and either in the little Kodak slide boxes, or in plastic sleeves.
I hear you about adding naming and metadata at import rather than later. But in the main, these images will fall into about 5 neat categories. One thing my friend wasn't eable to cope with on either his 35mm Coolpix or flatbed scanners are the unusual 120mm x 8" transparencies. With a 220 roll of fillm, you could get about 3 or 4 eposures. Exuisite detail. These are all of 747 aircract and shot with a Linhof Techika Wide with the Schneider SuperWide lens.This is the same camera used worldwide for school graduating class photos. The resolution is stunning, and I'll have the local camera store scan these in for me. Example attached below. You can count the rivets on the fuselage.
That's me against the fuselage. My photographer friend shot with from the end of the wing. The point where I am standing is about 8 feet deep from wing top to bottom. That's where a good portion of the fuel is stored.

Webi scaner

I had developed very powerfull report scanner with native interface on VB7. Scanner take all reports information and most important take SQL queries of reports (free hand SQL and Univerces). This is very userfull for us and now we can make searching directly in sql`s and very easy we can find witch report use concrete table, db link and other info like that. We talk for more than 4000 deski report`s (*.rep files) this make this program very important. My big problem are webi reports. Now I`am trying develop such scaner on J2EE that should work on same way. Scanner must take SQL`s (no metter universe or free hand sql) of all *.wid reports. Can you please give some info about what library or package I should use to open *.wid files and get needed info. Webi is Web intelligence Rich Client 12.2.4.507.

Just to add this scaner work without any Info store autority, files are local copy. Scaner work in mode read only (this prevent of VBA errors and passwords setings). Info store is used on final step just to get reports name and folder location for navigation in info view. This is developed like that because it is several times faster.

Attachments missing from sent emails

We just started having a strange email issue today. Emails sent using POP3 accounts have their attachments stripped out of the email. If you look at the sent items folder the email has the attachments but the person on the receiving end gets
an email with no attachment. It doesn't matter how big or small the attachment is, ho many attachments there are or what type of attachment they are.
This is happening on outlook 2010 and 2013 clients (those are the only 2 versions we have).
The operating system is Windows 7 pro SP1. All updates have been applied.
This is happening on all computers in the domain (SBS2011 server)
The outlook clients have one profile with an exchange server account and one or more POP3 accounts.
If I remove the exchange server account or create a new profile with only the pop3 account we do not have this issue.
I have uninstalled all antivirus software on the computer
I have created a new profile in outlook
I have done a system restore to roll back to the OS state before windows updates were installed the night before we started having the issue.
I have removed the signatures from outlook in case they were corrupted.
I have uninstalled Exchange server 2010 Rollup version 7 which was installed the night before the issue started.
I bypassed our local firewall
I have started outlook in safe mode
None of this solved the issue. As stated above exchange rollup 7 was installed and some workstation updates were installed the night before this happened. I figured that one of those 2 events caused the issue but uninstalling them did not help.
I need some fresh brain power on this one.

There are no attachments on the receiving end.
I enabled protocol logging on the outlook clients and there is no difference in the SMTP log between an email sent successfully and when the attachments get stripped.
This is happening to all the workstations in the domain. I have done online and offline (boot from CD and scan all local drives) virus scans and I am confident it is not a virus issue.
I would love to get rid of POP3 but we still use it because our sales staff have to send email using several different domains and using pop3 allows them to reply to emails and have them sent back out the same account (domain) that they were received from.
The cause of the issue was either exchange rollup 7 or one of the workstation updates. Both events happened the night before. We have been running this configuration for years and those are the only events that changed in our environment.

Use of VIP over SCAN

What is the use of VIP over SCAN, as all of the activities taken care by VIP in earlier release was now handled by SCAN.
I'm not understand why still we need VIP.

VIP are still in use even SCAN has introduced in 11gR2.
client are getting connected with local listener via SCAN or directly using these VIP and these local listener are running on VIP.

Photosmart 6520 Scanning

I have just purchased an HP Photosmart 6520 to replace my 6510 which was malfunctioning. I always do my scanning from the the HP Scan on my iMac; with the 6510 I could go into Preferences and change resolution/colour or black & white or grayscale/crop size if wanted each time I scanned. But those preferences do not exist, or at least I cannot find them, in the 6520 HP Scan utility. I have downloaded the latest software. There is the "Scan to Computer" options but changing them makes no difference to scanning from the computer, which means that I am, so it seems, left with having to use the defaults built into the software (200 dpi colour for photos and 300 dpi grayscale for documents). Is there any way I can change these settings to my own requirements for each scan, i.e. I never scan photos at less than 300 dpi. My operating systen is OS X Mavericks.

I see that you are missing some scan options for your HP Photosmart 6520, on Mac OS X 10.9, and I am happy to help you with this scanning issue!
Please make sure that the Airprint driver has not been selected as the default, it should read as HP Photosmart 6520. Click on the Apple Icon, System Preferences, then Print & Scan. Then look at these screenshots:
