Locate table in complex database diagram

Hi All,
If I have a database diagram of over 300 tables is there a quick way to locate an individual table by its name ?
Ronnie

Hi Ronnie
I can't give you exactly what you're looking for, but maybe a suggestion that will help under JDev 10.1.3.
If you have a diagram open, and the Structure Window open, the structure window lists all the items included in the diagram. Right clicking on the Structure Window allows you to resort the list in order of item types, as well as "Find Element in Diagram" which leaps to the item you're interested in.
Hope this helps.

  • Where are my database diagrams - 10g - 11g migration ???

    Hi all,
Can anyone please HELP me in locating/recovering my tables in my database diagrams.
I had my tables designed in JDeveloper 10g (10.1.3.10.3984 build JDEVADF_10.1.3.1.0_NT_061009.1404.3984) and had 11g Studio 111 installed yesterday day.
When started 11g I was prompted to migrate my existing projects, I clicked yes. The migration returned with a couple of errors which I didn't quite understand.. Sorry I forgot to make a note.
Now I open my database diagrams all I have got left are the "note" items. What have happend to my tables and sequences? I went back to 10g I saw the same thing.
Is possible to recover the 10g diagrams in 10g/11g? Please advise
    Thanks in advance
    Hien

    Hello Hien,
There is a specific forum for 11g issues (JDeveloper and OC4J 11g Technology Preview ); however, it's documented in the release notes for the 11 technology preview that migration from 10g is not supported IN THE PREVIEW.

  • Error creating database diagram

    Jdeveloper 10.1.3.04
    Oracle database 9.2.0.6.0
I create a database diagram. I go to the database connection and drag a table onto the database diagram. JDeveloper asks me what I want to create. I select 'offline database object' and click 'OK'.
I get a popup that says "The following Foreign Keys were not imported because the Constraint they reference was not accessible:"
    "On Tablename:
    TABLE1_TABLE2_OID_FK
    TABLE1_TABLE3_OID_FK"
The table gets created in the diagram, but the foreign keys don't show up.
Both foreign keys reference the same constraint, but I can't see why the constraint would not be accessible. Has anyone else seen this error message? Can someone tell me what it means?

Actually, I can drag in all the tables in the schema, and I get a number of errors. All errors are the same one I listed, but in reference to different tables and foreign keys.
The interesting thing is that all the foreign keys that are complained about reference the exact same constraint.
Yet, the table and constraint involved seem fine. I am at a loss to understand what is going on.
What else can I tell you to help with figuring this out?

  • Database Adapter: cannot access table with complex record type as columns

    Hi all,
I cannot perform any operations on a table that has columns with complex record type.
I have created a table to store purchase order details.
    Sample script:
    CREATE type XX_CUST_INFO_TYP as object
    ssn VARCHAR2(20),
    rating NUMBER(15)
    CREATE type XX_ITEM_TYP as object
    item_name VARCHAR2(20),
    unit_price NUMBER(15),
    quantity NUMBER(15)
    CREATE table XX_PORDER (cust XX_CUST_INFO_TYP, porder XX_ITEM_TYP);
When i try to access the table X_PORDER in jdev through a database Adapter, i receive the error as
"some tables contains columns that are not recognized by the database adpter"
1.) so in this case, how to include such tables that have complex types?
Also, check out this scenario also..
    1. add a table through a database adapter
    2. drop the table in backend
    3. i can still see the table and its structure in the database adapter wizard even after restarting Jdeveloper.. How is it possible?
These are some really interesting scenarios to experiment. Please suggest your ideas on this..
    Thanks All!

    Hi Hem,
for a select you could select against a view. And for inserts you could create a stored procedure. They support complex types since 10.1.2. Complex types support in tables/views was added for 11 (next major release).
You might be able to use PureSQL as a workaround too, i.e.
    insert into XX_PORDER values (XX_CUST_INFO_TYP(?,?), XX_ITEM_TYP(?, ?, ?))
As for your other problem, in 10.1.2/10.1.3 the DBAdapter wizard sits on top of the Jdev Offline Tables and TopLink Mapping Workbench components. When you remove a table in the wizard it won't delete the Offline DB component. It was added by the wizard, but afterwards it is public to the entire Jdev project. You must remove it from Jdev yourself. This has been improved for the next major release too, no artifacts from underlying components are created.
    To remove it select:
Offline DB Objects -> <schema> -> <table> and try File.. Erase From Disk.
    Thanks
    Steve

  • How to make tables fully sized in a database diagram?

    Hi,
This is my first time using JDeveloper. I have been asked to make a database diagram from a database schema for the purposes of printing the diagram out to stick on the office wall, yay Smile
There are a huge number of tables (100+) and I have got them on the screen, but the problem is that all the tables are the same size and many don't show all their fields. I could manually resize all the tables and shift them around but it would take forever. As I'm being paid for this I thought I should try and find an easier way.
I tried selecting all the tables and choosing Model->Optimize Shape Size but it didn't work, and I can't see anything else that would do it.
Thankfully, someone else is going to worry about how to print it out.
    Can anyone help?
    thx
    Adam

    Hi,
It should be showing the cardinalities unless you've turned the preferences off! You may find that the cardinalities aren't positioned as close to the lines due to the redrawing. If you select one of the FKs you should see two grey lines going from the line to where the cardinalities are, you can then either move them manually or try one of the 'Layout Shapes' options which will relayout your diagram and hopefully move the cardinalities closer to the Fks.
You can check whether the 'Show Cardinality' property is set to 'True' by selecting one FK and then invoking the context menu and selecting 'Select All This Type' and then in the Property Inspector ensure that the value is set to True.

  • 10g: Database Diagram "Unable to Locate Elements For ..."

    Hello,
In experimenting with JDeveloper 10g Diagram feature (IDE version 9.0.5.13.88), I experienced a rather vexing problem. I wondered if anyone could shed some light onto the issue for me and perhaps even help get it corrected.
I started off by Upgrading/Converting an existing 9.0.3 project up to 9.0.5. I then created a new Database Diagram (File | New..., General -> Diagrams -> Database Diagram). I then dragged 1 unconstrained view and 2 constrained views onto the diagram. It automatically drew the view links. I arranged the views on the diagram and then closed JDeveloper. I then closed the diagram and the workspace. When I attempted to reopen the diagram, I received the following error:
Unable to Locate Elements for Adhoc Reporting Model
In the list were the 3 views and associated viewlinks. Pressing continue yielded a blank diagram, much to my chagrin.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Sean

When you mention views, I presume that you mean View Objects, if this correct. I also presume that you dragged and dropped these View Objects from the navigator, and that the View Link that you mention was already visible in the navigator, is this also correct?
Did you see your view objects in the navigator, when you re-opened JDev? Are they in the same project, as your diagram? The diagrammer should have been able to find the objects, if they are visible in your current project.
You state that you first shutdown JDeveloper, and then closed your diagram, and workspace, did your diagram re-appear as expected when you opened up JDeveloper, and it was only after closing the diagram, and workspace, and then re-opening the workspace and diagram that you ran into problems?
Did you save everything, before you shutdown JDeveloper?
There is no known bug on this, so it would be good to get very specific test steps for this, to enable us to log a bug. Incidentally, why did you chose to create a Database diagram, rather than a Business Components Diagram?

  • Adding tables outside of your schema to Database diagram

Say, from what I can tell, there is no way to import a table from outside of your own schema user to a database diagram. I can drag tables from my own connection, but if it is a table that I have a public synonym to, no dice?
Anyone know if this is possible? If not, please add it to the list of enhancements.
    Thanks,
    Joe

Never mind. I found it. It's not exactly obvious, but if you go to the system navigator and right click on your schema name, do a "import database objects" you can do it.

  • How to get only one line between tables in database diagram?

    Hi!
I'm using jdev 10.1.3. I've got a database schema with a lot of tables. I would like to have them in one database diagram in compact view with only ONE line between two tables even if there are more foreign key columns between the two tables. In the shema there are a lot of foreign keys with multiple columns and the diagram is hard to read.
    How to archieve this?
    Thanks,
    Carsten.

    hi,
u should use the same variable across all your queries. In the WAD there is a propoerty "display same variable once". Check that.

  • Error connecting to a table in a database

I am trying to insert user login script and have an error.
Can anyone tell me why Dreamweaver MX 2004 cannot connect to
the tables in my databases? I am using MS Access 2002 and there are
    tables in the databses.
I can supply a jpeg of the error if needed

    Hello,
Are you using Windows XP SP2?
If so, it's a known issue.
    Here's the fix:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_19515&sliceId=2
Click on "connectivity fails with local ASP.NET and ASP
    servers..."
There's a link to download the extension fix in "Workaround"
ASP: When using a local ASP test server running on XP SP2
    with Dreamweaver
(i.e. the Testing Server URL prefix is set to "
    http://localhost"), and you
specify "Using driver on testing server" or "Using DSN on
    testing server,"
database connectivity fails. If you click the Test button in
    the Custom
Connection String or Data Source Name (DSN) dialog box, it
    says the
connection was made successfully. However, if you then try to
    browse the
tables in the Databases panel or create a recordset, the
    database tables do
not display or you get the following error message: "Unable
    to retrieve
tables from this connection, click on the 'Define...' button
    to test this
    connection."
Workaround: Download and install the Dreamweaver extension
    fix by Macromedia
that resolves this issue (Ref. 179021). To use this
    extension, follow the
steps below. The steps below apply to both ASP.NET and ASP
    sites:
1.. In Dreamweaver, go to the Files panel and choose one of
    your ASP.NET
    site definitions.
2.. Select Site > Advanced > Remove Connection
    Scripts.
Note: If this option is grayed out, open an ASP.NET page in
    Dreamweaver.
Removing the connection scripts will delete the contents of
    the
_mmServerScripts folder, which is located in the testing
    server folder. The
_mmServerScripts folder is hidden in Dreamweaver's Files
    panel, but will be
visible if viewed with a different file browser. The
    _mmServerScripts folder
consists of these three files: adojavas.inc, MMHTTPDB.asp and
    MMHTTPDB.js.
The connection scripts are used by Dreamweaver to perform
    remote database
connectivity when developing pages within Dreamweaver. These
    script files
have no affect on your web pages during run-time (i.e. when a
    visitor views
your ASP.NET pages via a web browser).
3.. Repeat steps 1-2 for each of your ASP.NET site
    definitions.
    4.. Quit Dreamweaver.
    5.. Install the extension.
    6.. Restart Dreamweaver.
7.. Go into the Files panel, select one of your ASP.NET
    sites, and open an
    .aspx file.
8.. Go into the Databases panel and delete your existing
    database
connections. Before deleting them, make sure to open up each
    connection and
write down the settings. You can open a connection by either
    double-clicking
the connection name, or right-clicking the connection name
    and selecting
    Edit.
9.. Create a new database connection. Use the same
    connection names you
had before, so any existing pages with DataSets and Server
    Behaviors still
    work correctly.
10.. Click the Test button in the database connection dialog
    box. This
will upload the new connection scripts to the testing server.
11.. Repeat steps 7-10 for each of your Dreamweaver ASP.NET
    site
    definitions.
Note: This extension is compatible with Dreamweaver MX 2004
    and Dreamweaver
MX. The current version of the extension is 1.0.2. Version
    1.0.1 resolved a
database connectivity problem with the ASP VBScript server
    model. Version
1.0.2 includes the fixes in version 1.0.1 and also resolves
    compatibility
issues with Dreamweaver MX (version 6). You can see which
    version of the
extension you have by opening the Extension Manager.

  • Importing CSV files into Multiple Tables in One Database

I have a web based solution using Microsoft SharePoint and SQL Server that is created to centralize dat collection and reporting of program metrics used in montly reviews.
A person from each program enters dat manual or by pushing the data using automated data import tools. The user then is able to generate reports and provide presentations to their stakeholders.
There are are programs that are located in US and 2 that are located in Japan. All, including programs in Japan use the MS Project with a plug-in tool that allows them to auto input data. When the user click the "Send To.." button, the data goes
in to multiple tables in one database.
Everything is set up exactly the same for every program; however, we have discovered becase of a firewall, along with some of the different settings that the MS Project has over in Japan, the 2 program users are not able to auto import their data.
The suggestion is to have the program users export the MS Project file into a CSV and email it. I will then take it and convert the data, such as the dates and place them on a Network Drive. There will be 2 folders, one for each program.
I feel it will be an easy process just to load the data from the Network Drive into the same tables that are created for auto import.
    My Concerns/Questions:
    1. Should I create 1 SSIS package or should there be 2, one for each program?
    2. US and Japan program users send their data once a month. The converted files are going to be saved in the location marked with a date (ex:201402). How can i have it to where SSIS will automatically load the data every time i place new files in the designated
folders or when i update an exsisting file?
Can you provide an example with your suggestion please?
    I greatly appreciate the assistance!
    Y_Tyler

    Hello Vikash,
Thank you! This will help me get started.
There will be 2 folders, one with files with Program A data and the other with files with Program B data. All will have the same fields, just coming from different programs. You stated that I will be able to to load both in one package. Would there be two
paths since there will be two separate folders?
Using the example you provided, i am confident that I can create the package using one path into one table but not sure how to get the files from 2 paths (if there is) into multiple tables.
Can you help clarify this for me?
    Thank you!

  • [SOLVED] Show only primary key columns in database diagrams

    Hi,
I'd like to create a database diagram with some tables hiding all the columns that aren't primary key or foreign key.
Currently the only way that I've found is right click on the column's name (in the table body visualized into the diagram) --> Hide selected shape
I've found the option that permits to visualize the constraint name and (optionally) the relative fields on the same row but what I'd like is something like:
    <Table name>
    <column_name> PK
    <column_name> PK
    <column_name> FK1
    <column_name> FK2
Do you know a way to do this?
    Many thanks
    Best regards

    Hi Tranen,
you can view the constraints and respective columns by setting the
Table Shape Properties in the Property Inspector.
Select (all) the tables on the Diagram you want
In the Property Inspector, under Constraints -Set the 'Show Constraint Columns' to 'True',
Set 'Show Constraints' to 'True' .
    Constraints (PK,UK,FK,Check)
Also Set the 'Show Columns' option to 'False' .This will be under display options in the Property inspector.
This should modify the Table shape in the diagram as follows:
    <Table name>
    <PK> PKName:Column1,Column2
    <UK>UKName:Column3
    <FK>FKname:Column1
are you looking for the same?
    Thanks.

  • Updatable Materialized View and Master Table on same database

    Hi all,
My first question - Is it possible to have an Updatable Materialized View and the associated Master Table located on the same database?
    This is the requirement scenario:
    One unique database D exists.
A is a batch table. Only inserts are allowed on Table A.
M is an updatable materialized view on Table A (Master). Only updates are allowed on M (no insert or delete).
Requirement is to push updates/changes from M to A periodically and then get the new inserted records from A into M via a refresh.
Is this possible? What other approaches are applicable here?

    John,
My question is related to the implementation and setup of the environment as explained in the above example. How can I achieve this considering that I have created an updatable m-view?
If possible, how do I push changes made to an updatable m-view back to it's master table when/before I execute DBMS_MVIEW.REFRESH on the m-view? What is the procedure to do this if both table and mview exist on the same database? Do I need to create master groups, materialized view refresh groups, etc.?
One more thing.. Is there a way to retain changes to the m-view during refresh? In this case, only newly inserted/updated records in the associated table would get inserted into m-view. Whereas changes made to m-view records would stay as-is.
Hope my question is directed well. Thanks for your help.
