Adding tables outside of your schema to Database diagram

Say, from what I can tell, there is no way to import a table from outside of your own schema user to a database diagram. I can drag tables from my own connection, but if it is a table that I have a public synonym to, no dice?
Anyone know if this is possible? If not, please add it to the list of enhancements.
Thanks,
Joe

Never mind. I found it. It's not exactly obvious, but if you go to the system navigator and right click on your schema name, do a "import database objects" you can do it.

  • Which is better a new schema or adding tables in the existing schema

    Hi All,
We have a new requirement from the client asking us to include a few new functionalities(pages--- all together a new application has to be embedded into our application) in our application. By adding these new functionalities, the number of hits to our application can be doubled.
As per the above requirement, I would like to know that whether to create a new schema or to create some new tables in the existing database for the new functionalities.
By what way, can I handle the number of requests in a better way? by creating the new schema or by creating the new tables for the new functionalities.
Also I would like like to know what kind of factors will differ between creating a new schema or creating new tables for the new functionalities in the existing schema.
FYI... We are using Cold Fusion as front-end and Oracle 9i for back-end

I agree with VD in that it all depends on how closely the new features ties into your existing application structure.
The second major factor to consider is since you mention "for client" is if your application has more than one client and if you will be rolliong this feature into the application for all clients. If you have multiple clients but only this one gets this feature then it may make more sense to use a second schema, but it really depends on how easy to identify and separate this feature's objects for the purpose of maintaining it through future upgrades is going to be.

  • 10G preview java excpection in database diagram

I got java exception event i import tables into a package and a database diagram or drag them (multiselect) from schema structure into a database diagram. After this exception the relationships are no more present into the diagram and it is impossible to continue with another tables.
Is it somebody tracking bug in 10g ?
Are interesting by more details ?
Are you planing updates on the fly (check for updates option by example) to correct our installation periodically ?

First i created a new workspace and new empty project. Afterthat i create a connection to my database and test sucessfully. In the new project i created a new database diagram and move the connection pane and open the list of tables (tree). I selected the first occurence and go to the last, press the shift key and select the last also. So all the tables in the schema were selected. I dragged all the tables directly into the diagram. Some of them was correctly added in the diagram but the process did not fully complete.
After i deleted all and do the same the import wizard with something like the same problem. I'm not sure that i really deleted the files from the disk so i will not confirm that the problem was exactly the same. I will reproduce and give you more information.
    the database is 9.2.0.3.0

  • Errors encountered using Database Diagram in JDeveloper 11g

Tried to bring an existing MySQL 5.0 database schema into Database Diagram in JDev. Several problems encountered as listed below:
    1. For any columns that are with VARCHAR type and the length is greater than 255, I got "Display Width must be less than or equal to 255". Why JDeveloper sets such limitation even the DBMS allows? What I can do with it? I only want to do the ER modeling or do the reverse engineering here.
    2. I also got "A Foreign key constraint must define at least one column" for some tables that do have FK defined properly. The message seems suggest there is FK defined on NO column. It's not possible to create any constraint without specifying corresponding column(s) in the first place. So I feel this is a misleading message. But what's the really problem behind?
Has anybody run into this? Any input is highly appreciated! Thanks.

  • Create and access a table OUTSIDE SAPR3 schema

    Hi Gurus,
Can you please help me how do I create a table outside SAPR3 schema in the same database, I have a user schema TEST in the sap database (Using SAPR3 4.6C). If any tcode does that? Or I need to use oracle sqlplus.
HOW an ABAP progroam can access and manipulate the data available in this TEST schema?
Reference to some SAP NOTE will be highly helpfull.

Very good, now we are getting more information.
The data is NOT on the oracle database but outside.
In this case DBCON (from DB+CONnection) can help

Very easy, follow my mantra (Top right box-Search functionality is very useful, also sap notes search)
    Lets chew this a little:
117261     Multiconnect and DB procedure enhancements for 4.0B
323151     Several DB connections with Native SQL
738371     Creating DBCON multiconnect entries for SQL Server
178949     MSSQL: Database MultiConnect with EXEC SQL
    >
    > But , why DBCON is not the right choice, Fiedel can U thow some more light?
Lets see, in your first request you wanted to access to a different schema in the same database.
you have the licence issues and DBCON is "overkill" (even when it can work) You would be connecting to yourself with a different usser.
Probably it is easier to create synonyms at DB level and provide proper authorizations.
In your second request the DBCON makes much more sense.
You want to access to a different (external) DB. That is the reason DBCON exist.
Now we have a little "issue". I'm not Windows/SQL expert, but, in order to connect to an external DB you need the SAP library "dbslib" (I think dbsmsslib is the correct name for the SQL server)
Unfortunately, SQLServer is a Windows only program and this library is only available for Windows.
To use it (use DBCON) you will have to install an AS on a windows machine and configure the DBCON on this server and execute the program to exchange data from this AS alone (if you execute it from another one it will fail because it does not find the dbslib)
As mentioned, not much experience with non "real" Operating Systems, so perhaps someone else has more information.

  • Using exp dump file, how to know schema/tablespace/database/table....

    Hi
I have export dump file. I don't have any information other then that about the dumpfile.
    1. How do I know what version of exp was used(or database version)?
    2. what does the exp contain, whether it is table/schema/tablespace/database level export?
    3. Is it possible that I can used impdp command to export a file which was exported using "exp" command?

    1. Sorry for my ignorance but in first case how do I know if i have to use "imp or impdp".
As discussed in the above mentioned thread strings might reveal something but not sure. Otherwise you can always confirm by trying to run it.
And assuming that if I imported the dump(using trial and error rule), how do I know what level of export was the dump file created... ie
how do I know the present object(object imported in target) was belonging to which tablespace and schema in source database(question 2 of "Sidhu")?
When you will import it back in a new database, everything will be same as the original database. All objects will belong to their respective tablespaces, schemas blah blah...(where they were in the original database).

  • Moving Subpartitions to a duplicate table in a different schema.

+NOTE: I asked this question on the PL/SQL and SQL forum, but have moved it here as I think it's more appropriate to this forum. I've placed a pointer to this post on the original post.+
    Hello Ladies and Gentlemen.
We're currently involved in an exercise at my workplace where we are in the process of attempting to logically organise our data by global region. For information, our production database is currently at version 10.2.0.3 and will shortly be upgraded to 10.2.0.5.
At the moment, all our data 'lives' in the same schema. We are in the process of producing a proof of concept to migrate this data to identically structured (and named) tables in separate database schemas; each schema to represent a global region.
In our current schema, our data is range-partitioned on date, and then list-partitioned on a column named OFFICE. I want to move the OFFICE subpartitions from one schema into an identically named and structured table in a new schema. The tablespace will remain the same for both identically-named tables across both schemas.
Do any of you have an opinion on the best way to do this? Ideally in the new schema, I'd like to create each new table as an empty table with the appropriate range and list partitions defined. I have been doing some testing in our development environment with the EXCHANGE PARTITION statement, but this requires the destination table to be non-partitioned.
I just wondered if, for partition migration across schemas with the table name and tablespace remaining constant, there is an official "best practice" method of accomplishing such a subpartition move neatly, quickly and elegantly?
    Any helpful replies welcome.
    Cheers.
    James

NOTE : Since your source and target tables are in different schemas, you will have to move (or copy) the staging table STG_part_subpart from the first schema to the second schema after the first "exchange subpartition" is done. You will have to do this for every subpartition to be exchanged.

  • How can i import tables from a different schema into the existing relational model... to add these tables in the existing model? plss help

how can i import tables from a different schema into the existing relational model... to add these tables in the existing relational/logical model? plss help
note; I already have the relational/logical model ready from one schema... and I need to add few more tables to this relational/logical model
can I import the same way as I did previously??
but even if I do the same how can I add it in the model?? as the logical model has already been engineered..
    please help ...
    thanks

    Hi,
Before you start, you should probably take a backup copy of your design (the .dmd file and associated folder), in case the update does not work out as you had hoped.
You need to use Import > Data Dictionary again, to start the Data Dictionary Import Wizard.
In step 1 use a suitable database connection that can access the relevant table definitions.
In step 2 select the schema (or schemas) to import.  The "Import to" field in the lower left part of the main panel allows you to select which existing Relational Model to import into (or to specify that a new Relational Model is to be created).
In step 3 select the tables to import.  (Note that if there are an Foreign Key constraints between the new tables and any tables you had previously imported, you should also include the previous tables, otherwise the Foreign Key constraints will not be imported.)
After the import itself has completed, the "Compare Models" dialog is displayed.  This shows the differences between the model being imported and the previous state of the model, and allows you to select which changes are to be applied.
Just selecting the Merge button should apply all the additions and changes in the new import.
Having updated your Relational Model, you can then update your Logical Model.  To do this you repeat the "Engineer to Logical Model".  This displays the "Engineer to Logical Model" dialog, which shows the changes which will be applied to the Logical Model, and allows you to select which changes are to be applied.
Just selecting the Engineer button should apply all the additions and changes.
I hope this helps you achieve what you want.

  • Problem creating a form on a table from another custom schema

    Hi,
I have a table in a custom schema that i have granted SELECT, UPDATE, INSERT and DELETE to our apex schema. I have created a synonym for this table under the apex schema but I can't build a form for it. If i try adding the form when creating the application, it gives me an error about not having a primary key on the table, which i do. If i create the application with a blank page and then try to add the form, it gives me an error that the table must contain at least one column, which it contains 12. If i view the table in the SQL Workshop, it gives an accurate count of rows in the table but doesn't provide any information about the table and doesn't display the data.
If I login to TOAD under our apex schema and view the synonym object, i can see all of the information about the table - the columns, the primary key, etc. But I can't see it inside the Application Express app.
Can anyone tell me why this is and what i can do to build a form on this shared table?
    Thanks,
    Troy

    Troy,
I suggest you get rid of the synonym and then don't use the Create Application wizard for this purpose. Instead, create the application, then use a create page or create form wizard. It should first ask you for the name of the schema that contains the table. If you get that far, you should be on your way.

  • Tables not appearing in schema

Hey, im using the netbeans IDE 6.7, and have created a new Web application project, when I try to add a new "entity classes for database" connection, it doesn't display all the tables in the schema, it says a connection is established, and it reports an error when i entered in the wrong password (was just testing that it actually was connecting), I haven't added any items to the schema but I was told any new tables are automatically put into the users schema which would be "test" which is my username...
I do however get other tables in this list which Ive searched for and they appear under the owner "System", some of them are DEF$_TEMP$LOB(no primary key), HELP, OL$(no primary key), PRODUCT PRIVS(view). I have no idea where these are coming from and why they are appearing when I select the TEMP schema....
Is there a way I can create tables for a specific schema, or find out what scheme already existing tables belong to?
also im using the free oracle xe 10g Release 2 (10.2)

    Hello,
find out what scheme already existing tables belong to?This query may help you:
    select owner, table_name
    from dba_tables
order by owner, table_name;You have to execute it logged on a Oracle User who has SELECT privilege on the View DBA_TABLES, for instance SYSTEM.
Is there a way I can create tables for a specific schemaYou can for instance connect to this User/Schema and execute this:
create table <table_name> ... ;Or you may connect to any User/Schema with the Privilege CREATE ANY TABLE (for instance SYSTEM) and execute this statement:
create table <schema>.<table_name> ... ;Where <schema> is the Schema on which you want to create the Table.
    Hope this help.

  • How to make tables fully sized in a database diagram?

    Hi,
This is my first time using JDeveloper. I have been asked to make a database diagram from a database schema for the purposes of printing the diagram out to stick on the office wall, yay Smile
There are a huge number of tables (100+) and I have got them on the screen, but the problem is that all the tables are the same size and many don't show all their fields. I could manually resize all the tables and shift them around but it would take forever. As I'm being paid for this I thought I should try and find an easier way.
I tried selecting all the tables and choosing Model->Optimize Shape Size but it didn't work, and I can't see anything else that would do it.
Thankfully, someone else is going to worry about how to print it out.
    Can anyone help?
    thx
    Adam

    Hi,
It should be showing the cardinalities unless you've turned the preferences off! You may find that the cardinalities aren't positioned as close to the lines due to the redrawing. If you select one of the FKs you should see two grey lines going from the line to where the cardinalities are, you can then either move them manually or try one of the 'Layout Shapes' options which will relayout your diagram and hopefully move the cardinalities closer to the Fks.
You can check whether the 'Show Cardinality' property is set to 'True' by selecting one FK and then invoking the context menu and selecting 'Select All This Type' and then in the Property Inspector ensure that the value is set to True.

  • Adding dynamic images to your website using Dreamweaver

    Hi
I've been working on a website which has been in use by public for some months now.
I recently wanted to add a simple product catelogue.   I can do this just by creating my database connection and using the recordsets.
However I wanted to add an image thumbnail to each product record.
I found the above topic in the Adobe Help 'Adding dynamic images to your website using Dreamweaver'
What I really would like to know is what exactly is put in the image_location field of the table, how is this field populated and then how to view the picture.
I have tried, as per instructions, but the picture is not showing.
I use php as I dont know coldfusion, but I'm sure the process must be pretty similar.
If anyone can shed some light then that would be really appreciated.
    Many thanks liz

As most anyone else will say, so I will say; *please don't
    start it
    automatically!*
Playing music on a site is fine, but making it play
    automatically when you
go to the site will alienate lots of people; especially those
    having a quick
web surf at work or who have other music on whilst they're
    working.
But back to your question; have a look at the XSPF music
    player
    http://musicplayer.sourceforge.net/).
It comes in different visual versions
(can modify it with a bit of Flash knowledge), allows you to
    select
different songs or just leave it looping, or you can just
    loop one song. And
yes, you can make it start automatically.
    See
    http://www.blastoffmusic.org
for an example of a christian site where it
is used (on the inside pages)

  • Is schema and database of sqlserver is same.

    Hi !
    1) i have 10 database in sqlserver 2005, when i made them in oracle xe,
i made user and a connection so it made a schema asociatted with user which has my tables and other objects of one databse of sqlserver.
so i had to made 10 users and connection, so i wanted to know wethere it is right way of doing it?
    2) if shemas in oracle is databases of sqlserver, then when we backup it backs up all schem in oracle or there is a way to backup single shema?
    3) if backup of oracle backs up all oracle schema, then is there any way to restore only one schema?
    yours sincerely.

Well, I'd rather not try to translate the terms directly across. Just think database != database (and so on with respective rdbms implementation).
If you must, a 'database' (file/file group level) in mssql server db is somewhat similar to a 'tablespace' in Oracle.
Your mssql db database also has a schema structure, somewhat similar to Oracle's schema structure. One difference is that Oracle has a closer relationship between user and schema, where as in mssql db there is a division between users and schemas and you define how they should relate.
    1) Well, in Oracle you have 1 to 1 relationship and user implies a schema (however it may be empty). So yes if you have 10 schemas you would need at least 10 users in Oracle, since you can't have a "user-less schema".
    2) Simple way is to do a schema export, creating an export dump file (which is sometimes referred to as a logical backup).
    3) This dump may then be used to import the schema, in the same or different db. Tools for export and import are expdp and impdp.
If you have a real/physical backup (of database files) then you could get that db up and running on a separate host and then export specific schema from there.
Please read up on the Oracle Concepts guide and the 2-day DBA guide, at least. A couple of chapters from Backup and Recovery guide would probably also be agood idea. See Oracle Documentation library for these and more Database books.
