    I have a sample file that looks like this:

    AND SO ON...FOR 64 PAGES WORTH OF CONTENT
    HELP!!!
    SGAREN

    Hello Sally,
    First, I have only heard/read good things about the book Steve recommends. It is on my to buy list one day. Been awaiting a long deserved vaction to pick it up to read.
    I approach XML files pretty much like I do any text file I am sent in that I will import or copy/paste a text file into a frame in ID and begin setting my styles. With XML, though, I first clean it up, move closing tags up to their logical close lines, remove spurious codes that mean something in HTML but don't necessarily belong in the XML file (like &#x2019 which is an apostrophe so I do a search and replace. But for &#xA0; which is a non-breaking space I simply search and replace with a regular space in general), and make sure the XML validates.
    Validation is much like making sure an HTML page is formed properly. I use an XML editor (XML BluePrint) and a text editor (UltraEdit) for these tasks. If I had to only have one or the other, I suppose the XML editor is what I would use.
    I always show the import options when I import the XML and make sure that I link to the file.
    So once a sample of the XML is on a page in ID (via File | Import XML), I highlight text within a tag, say like in your example above, the Providor name, and make it like I want and then create a new style. I generally name the styles as per the XML tag. Later on, that makes mapping tags to styles a little easier.
    Once I set up all the styles preliminarily, I map the tags to styles. You can do that either via the Tags palette or via the Structure Pane that will appear once the XML is imported. In both cases, it is found via the flyout menu at the top right of their respective windows.
    After mapping my styles to the tags, I select the root element in the Structure Pane (the topmost element. In your sample above it is "providors" and delete it. This removes the XML in your ID file. But the styles and tags are still present.
    Then I import the XML again and look to makes sure all the tags/elements are styled as intended. I then correct any errors/ommissions. Then...I'll delete the XML again and import the full XML file.
    I can upload what I did with your XML sample above so you can compare it to your source file if you would like. You would then see how/where I moved tags. Now, moving the tags is only "necessary" to avoid all the extra blank paragraphs. That can be accomplished by ID's search/replace, too. But I like to start out with the XML cleaned up, so I take the few minutes to do it.
    Take care, Mike

  • How can I load the selected XML File (Selected from a Listview) into the correct Textboxes?

    Right, so I have a windowsform with lots of Textboxes, where the user can type in Information, and then hit "Save", once its saved it goes into a sortof XML Format
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!--Database-->
    <Case>
      <Person>l<Driver></Driver><License-Holder></License-Holder><Address></Address><Phone></Phone><Date-of-Birth></Date-of-Birth><Registration></Registration>
    Like that.
    Now, on my Startup Form (The main form) there is a Listview that I gave the name Objectlist1. This list displays ANY file located in a specific folder on my computer. This is also where the Saved files appear.
    The list also updates every 5th second so after you save it appears quickly.
    Now, the Files are saved using the content or Value of the first Textbox:
    Dim XmlWrt As XmlWriter = XmlWriter.Create("C:\Users\USER\Desktop\TESTFOLDER\" + Firsttextbox.Text, settings)
    So it appears in the folder and on the list with the value inserted in the first Textbox.
    My problem comes when I want to load this back (Or reverse the function if you will)
    Where I can go to the Objectlist1/Listview, either doubleclick a file or Mark a file, and hit my button "Retrieve"
    I want the Form where you could input all the values to show - which it does
    And the information from the XML/File saved to appear where it once was typed or inserted.
    Here is an example of the code used to save the values from the Textboxes;
    Private Sub Savebutton_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Savebutton.Click
            If IO.File.Exists(Pholderbox.Text) = False Then
                Dim settings As New XmlWriterSettings()
                settings.Indent = True
                Dim XmlWrt As XmlWriter = XmlWriter.Create("C:\Users\USER\Desktop\TESTFOLDER\" + Pholderbox.Text, settings)
                With XmlWrt
                    ' Write the Xml declaration.
                    .WriteStartDocument()
                    ' CLIENT
                    ' Write a comment.
                    .WriteComment("Database")
                    ' Write the root element.
                    .WriteStartElement("Case")
                    ' Start our first person.
                    .WriteStartElement("Person")
                    .WriteString(Textbox1.Text)
                    ' The person nodes.
                    .WriteStartElement("Driver")
                    .WriteString(Textbox2.Text)
                    .WriteEndElement()
    I've tried multiple codesamples but they all give either "XML Not found" or such Overloads.
    This is the current code I used when trying to make it work
    Private Function ReadSettingsXML(ByVal path As String) As MySettings # On Debug It marks here and tells me it wasn't found.
            Dim thisSettingsInfo As New MySettings
            If My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists(Objectlist1.SelectedItems.ToString) Then
                Dim settingsInfo = XElement.Load(Objectlist1.SelectedItems.ToString)
                If settingsInfo IsNot Nothing Then
                    For Each mainGroup As XElement In settingsInfo.Elements
                        If mainGroup.Name = "<Database>" AndAlso mainGroup.HasElements Then
                            For Each subGroup As XElement In mainGroup.Elements
                                If subGroup.Name = "<Person>" Then
                                    thisSettingsInfo.Textbox1 = subGroup.Value
                                ElseIf subGroup.Name = "<Driver>" Then
                                    thisSettingsInfo.Textbox2 = subGroup.Value
                                ElseIf subGroup.Name = "<Address>" Then
                                    thisSettingsInfo.Textbox3 = subGroup.Value
                                End If
                            Next
                        End If
                    Next
                Else
                    thisSettingsInfo = Nothing
                    Throw New Exception("The settings XML file is corrupt and cannot be read.")
                End If
            Else
                thisSettingsInfo = Nothing
                Throw New Exception("The settings XML file could not be located.")
            End If
            Return thisSettingsInfo
        End Function
        Private Sub LoadXML_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles LoadXML.Click
            Dim settings As New MySettings
            settings = ReadSettingsXML(Objectlist1.SelectedItems.ToString)
            If settings IsNot Nothing Then
                Dim sb As New System.Text.StringBuilder
                With settings
                    Caseworker.Textbox1.Text = .Person
                    Caseworker.Textbox2.Text = .Driver
                    Caseworker.Textbox3.Text = .Address
                End With
            End If
        End Sub
    Also, the "Caseworker" is the form where all the textboxes are located.
    Been stuck on this for two working days, so any help is highly appreciated
    Codesamples are also highly welcome so I can see what the heck you did and find and answer to my problems.

    I found a code that might be close to what I'm looking, but as of this code used here, it looks for a static document that already exist and is located in the code.
    See this one here, checks for the XML file, and since I can't link one program to 1 file, when its gonna have and use 100's of files.
            If (IO.File.Exists("MyXML.xml")) Then
                Same here with the static document.
                Dim document As XmlReader = New XmlTextReader("MyXML.xml")
                While (document.Read())
                    Dim type = document.NodeType
                    'if node type was element
                    If (type = XmlNodeType.Element) Then
                        If (document.Name = "FirstName") Then
                            TextBox1.Text = document.ReadInnerXml.ToString()
                        End If
                        If (document.Name = "LastName") Then
                            TextBox2.Text = document.ReadInnerXml.ToString()
                        End If
                    End If
                End While
    Am I at least close here, people?
    Can anyone help with the now critical issue I got?
    I basically need to change these two;
     If (IO.File.Exists("MyXML.xml")) Then
                Same here with the static document.
                Dim document As XmlReader = New XmlTextReader("MyXML.xml")
    To whatever value, so they read from the file SELECTED in my Listview
    Cos the program saves files according to the info inserted in textboxes, so it can have whatever name you can think of, I need the program to "find and load" that file, once its selected, and then once I hit Retrieve or LOAD or whatever button, it
    injects the info from the File to the correct Textboxes.
    And I think this will work to get the info in the right boxes;
     If (document.Name = "FirstName") Then
                            TextBox1.Text = document.ReadInnerXml.ToString()
                        End If
                        If (document.Name = "LastName") Then
                            TextBox2.Text = document.ReadInnerXml.ToString()
    Any good advise? I'm stranded here.

  • The Open XML file cannot be opened?

    Hello there,
    I tried to open my novel that I had been writing on Word Document but I cannot. A box pops up with this wording...
    The Open XML file Villain.docx cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents or the file name migh contain invalid characters.
    Details
    No error detail available
    And then when I click 'OK', another message pops up...
    Word found unreadable content in Villain.docx.
    Do you want to recover the contents of this document? If you trust the source of this document, click Yes.
    But just as I begin to think I have solved it...
    The Open XML file Villain.docx cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents or the file name migh contain invalid characters.
    Details
    No error detail available

    I don't understand this! What does it mean? And how can I re-open it? I can't lose this data!

    So... nobody knows how to possibly fix this?

  • Possible elements in the instanceconfig.xml file for presentation services

    g'day
    Has anyone here come across a list of all the possible elements that can be put in the configuration file for a presentation service, instanceconfig.xml ?<P>
    I have found next to nothing in the documentations, about what can be configured there.<P>
    What I am specifically after is: How can I change the default listening port for the Presentation Service? The default port is 9710 and I want to move to another port.<P>
    Also, how can I move the JavaHost from the default port 9810? I can change the file <i>OracleBI/web/javahost/config/config.xml</i> to reflect the change. Once the JavaHost has been restarted it starts up on the expected port, but the Presentation Service still tries to communicate over RPC to port 9810. How do I configure the presentation service to search for the JavaHost on a non-default port?<P>
    I have boiled it down to my original question: What are the possible values I can configure in the instanceconfig.xml file?<P>
    Any comments here would be great.<P>
    Cheers,<br>
    Borkur

    So, I had a little breakthrough here.
    I found in the OBIEE deployment guide, page 142:
    To change the Presentation Services listener port
    1 Open the instanceconfig.xml file for editing.
    2 Locate the <WebConfig> element.
    3 Within the <WebConfig> tags, create the element <RPC> and assign it the RPC Listener Port
    value for the BI Presentation Services instance, as shown in the following example.
    <WebConfig>
    <ServerInstance>
    <RPC>
    <Listener port="9715" />
    </RPC>
    </ServerInstance>
    </WebConfig>
    NOTE: In the preceding example, the RPC Listener port for the BI Presentation Services instance
    has been changed to port 9715 from the default of 9710.
    4 Save changes to the file.
    This almost works. The RPC element has been deprecated, as was reported in the sawserver.out.log:
    The configuration entry 'RPC/Listener' is deprecated. Please refer to the admin guide for more information.
    What I then did was to just remove the RPC elements and leaving the Listener element straight under there ServerInstance element. This seems to have solved the problem.
    I still have to figure out how to let the Presentation Service know that I have moved the JavaHost to antoher port ...
    Cheers,
    Borkur

    In my Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Studio, I executed the following SQL Query code:
    --XQuery w3schools example using books1.xml in C:\Temp folder
    ---SQL Query W3books Title
    ---9 March 2015
    USE XML_XQUERY

    P. S.
    (1) I mimicked the xml file and SQL Qeury code of Import XML File to SQL Table in
    http://pratchev.blogspot.com/2008/11/import-xml-file-to-sql-table.html. The xml file and the code of this sample worked in my SSMS 2012 program.
    (2) I am learning the "CAST" and "CROSS APPLY" in the Create Instances of XML Data of Microsoft MSDN - it is very abstract to me.

    Hi Stan210, Thanks for your nice response.
    I corrected my xml file as you pointed out.
    I made some changes in some code statements of my SQLQueryW3BookTitle.sql as you instructed:
    --XQuery w3schools example using books1.xml in C:\Temp folder
    ---SQL Query W3books Title
    ---10 March 2015
    USE XML_XQUERY
    GO
    CREATE TABLE W3Books(
    BookID INt Primary Key,
    Title VARCHAR(30));
    INSERT INTO W3Books (BookID, Title)
    SELECT x.book.value('/BookID[1]', 'INT'),
    x.book.value('/title[1]', 'VARCHAR(30)')
    FROM (
    SELECT CAST(x AS XML)
    FROM OPENROWSET(
    BULK 'C:\Temp\books1.xml',SINGLE_BLOB) AS T(x)
    ) AS T(x)
    CROSS APPLY x.nodes('bookstore/book') AS x(book);
    SELECT BookID, Title
    FROM W3Books;
    I executed my revised sql and I got the following Message and Results:
    Msg 515, Level 16, State 2, Line 6
    Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'BookID', table 'XML_XQUERY.dbo.W3Books'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.
    The statement has been terminated.
    (0 row(s) affected)
    Results:
    BookID    Title
    I don't know why I just got the names of columns in Results and the "Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'BookID', table 'XML_XQUERY.dbo.W3Books'; column does not allow nulls, insert fails." in Messages.  Please kindly help, advise me
    how to correct the errors and respond again.
    Many Thanks again,

  • Having Problems importing XML file from FCP 6 onto a FCP 5 application

    I have a project file that i worked on FCP 6 and wanted to move to FCP 5 app. on a different Pro Mac but when i try to import the xml, it prompts me to "Please choose a Translation Document File". I choose the FCP 6 project file because i wasn't sure what to choose and i get the ERROR: No translation templates matching the selected XML file were found. Unable to import this file.
    any ideas?

    make sure you exported your XML from FCP6 using a compatible XML version (1, 2 or 3) ... version 3 would make the most sense as its the most recent FCP5 compatible version .... don't export using version 4 (the default for FCP6), that one is for transfering projects between different installations of FCP6 only

  • SQL Server 2012 Management Studio:Importing XML file to new Table of new Database-XML parsing: unexpected end of input???

    Hi all,

    Thanks in advance,
    Scott Chang

    Hi Manish, Thanks for your response.
    Yes, it is a duplicate with Qroducts/Qroduct instead of Products/Product. I did it, because I don't know how to remove the existing "Products" database.
    Again, I got the existing "Qroducts" database in this second trial!!??  I am comletely lost in doing "Importing XML file to SQL Table" now!!  I think that I have not touched T-SQL and XML programming, since 2008. I
    did not catch the new features of T-SQL 2008, XML, SQL/XML, XQuery, etc. for long time. Recently, I did not know what DECLARE, @x, SET,...were, and dived into the SQL/XML and XQuery programming. I knew the SQL Basics (SELECT, FROM, WHERE,..), creating
    the names of databases and tables in SQL Server 2008/2012 Management Studio (Express) before. This morning, I found an old T-SQL 2008 Prgrammer's Guide that has the new features of SQL Server 2008 for T-SQL, XML, XQuery, etc. I just starting reading
    it to know what DECLARE, @x, SET,... are. But, I still don't know where the existing databases "Products" and "Qroducts" (created by me) are - they are not in the Databases of SQL Server 2012 Management Studio I am using!!??  Could
    you please kindly point out where the "Products" and "Qroducts" databases are?
    Prashanth responded to my posted question too and he asked to to try his code: DECLARE @xml XML, SELECT @xml =' <Qroducts>.....SELECT product.value.....FROM @XML.nodes.....AS.... I just learned that his code is doing the thing we
    want to do and print the results below the SQL Query. This is not what I need in doing my SQL/XML programming. I am reading/studying the new (2008) features of T-SQL, XQuery 1.0: An XML Query Language (Second Edition), and Microsoft XQuery Language Reference
    (SQL Server 2012 Books Online) closely now. I hope that I can resume the T-SQL, XML Query, SQL/XML, XQuery in my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio soon.
    Please tell me  where the existing databases "Products" and "Qroducts" I created in my previous trials in my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio.  This is what I need to know and to delete them, before I do this kind of "Importing
    XML file to Table of SQL Server 2012 Management Studio"  programming again.
    Please kindly help, advise and respond again.
    Many Thanks,

  • JSP compiler reading the web.xml file?

    Hi,
              I am trying to use the weblogic JSP compiler (weblogic.jspc) to
              pre-compile some JSP that use custom tags. Does the compiler
              read the web.xml file if there is one? In particular the taglib
              elements in that file so that the compiler understands the
              <%@ taglib ... %> directive.
              In the JSP I try to compile I use this statement to declare a taglib:
              <%@ taglib uri="xyz/xyz-taglib" prefix="xyz" %>
              and in my web.xml I have:
              <taglib>
              <taglib-uri>xyz/xyz-taglib</taglib-uri>
              <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/tlds/xyz.tld</taglib-location>
              </taglib>
              When I try to compile the JSP I get the following error:
              Could not parse embedded JSP code: weblogic.utils.ParsingException: nested
              IOException: java.io.IOException: cannot resolve 'xyz/xyz-taglib' into a
              valid tag library.
              Any ideas how I can resolve this?
              In advance thank you for any help.
              Florian

    open it in a text editor and modify it.

  • Hello; I am using Numbers '09 version 2.1 (436). I tried unsuccessfully to upgrade at one point. Now can't open existing documents. Message "The index.xml file is missing".

    Hello; I am using Numbers '09 version 2.1 (436). I tried unsuccessfully to upgrade at one point. Now can't open existing documents. Message "The index.xml file is missing". How can I correct this ?
    Thank you
    Tom

    I't not iWeb that got damaged but the domain file. The index.xml file is inside the domain.sites file that's located in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Do you have a backup of that file you can revert to?  If so then do it.  Otherwise a long shot but try the following:
    close iWeb.
    delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
    go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
    If that doesn't help continue with:
    move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
    launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
    go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
    move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Anyone having a problem with the latest number software. Docs do not open Invalid. The index .xml file is missing?

    I have been having problems since updating to the latest version of Numbers.
    When I try to open files I am getting an error.
    "The document “'13 Tax Prep .numbers” is invalid.
    The index.xml file is missing."
    Anyone else getting this message? Anyone know how to fix the issue?

    Jeff Shenk wrote:
    Numbers 3.1 can recognize both the new files without the index.xml file and the old ones with it, which it imports to the new format.
    Agreed on that part.  But take it a step further.  If Numbers 3.1 is asked to open an old document that is still in the old Numbers 2 format that relies on an index.xml file but Numbers 3.1 can't find the index.xml file (perhaps the document is corrupted) then how can Numbers 3.1 open the document and interpret it in order to convert it to the new format? My guess is that this a possible trigger for the 'index.xml missing' error message.
    Interesting link here on the new document format.

  • Junk Characters in the output XML file after Parsing

    Hi
    I am using DOM parser to parse an XML file.
    After parsing the input XML file, i am fetching some contents
    from the same and also putting the same contents in the parsed output file which is also an XML file.
    The problem here is that the after putting the contents to the output XML file from the input XML file,
    some junk character appears at the end of each and every tag in the outputfile.
    The junk character is some thing like this : " ampersand hash thirteen and a semicolon "
    (*THE MESSAGE DID NOT ACCEPT THE SYMBOLS KINDLY TRANSLATE THE ABOVE WORDINGS*
    INTO SYMBOLS)
    This character gets appended at the end of each and every tag in the output file due to which the output file
    is not recognised as an XML file.
    Please let me know as to why is this character appearing and also please suggest some solution
    for the same.
    -Thanks in Advance.

    Wierd.
    Try this piece of code. (You can always change it to use input file and output file instead of string if you want)
    What is your output?
    import java.io.ByteArrayInputStream;
    import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.io.OutputStream;
    import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory;
    import javax.xml.transform.Result;
    import javax.xml.transform.Source;
    import javax.xml.transform.Transformer;
    import javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory;
    import javax.xml.transform.dom.DOMSource;
    import javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamResult;
    import org.w3c.dom.Document;
    public class XMLTest {
         public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
              String input = "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\"?>\r\n" +
                                  "<test>\r\n" +
                                  "</test>";
              System.out.println("Input:");
              lookForCR(input);
              DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
              Document doc = factory.newDocumentBuilder().parse( new ByteArrayInputStream(input.getBytes()) );
              Source source = new DOMSource(doc);
              ByteArrayOutputStream bArrOut = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
              Result result = new StreamResult( new StripOutputStream( bArrOut ) );
              Transformer xformer = TransformerFactory.newInstance().newTransformer();
              xformer.transform(source, result);
              System.out.println("\nResult:");
              lookForCR(bArrOut.toString());
              System.out.println("\nDone");
         public static void lookForCR(String input) throws Exception {
              char[] chars =input.toCharArray();
              for ( char chr : chars ) {
                   if (chr == 13 ) {
                        System.out.println("Has 0x0D character!!");
    class StripOutputStream extends OutputStream {
         OutputStream out = null;
         public StripOutputStream(OutputStream out) {
              this.out = out;

  • How to include webconfig "appsettings" as a paramter on the setparameter.xml file along with webdeploy pacakge?

    Hi,
    I have a scenario to include the web config "appsettigns" on the setparameter.xml file to change the values from Release Management workflow to before web deploy parameter transform process starts.
    By default, DB connection string parameter's added on the setparameter.xml and I am able to successfully change them before deployment.
    I have to get the below appsettings values on the webdploy package(setparameter.xml file). so that I can change the "Value" to promote the build from QA to PRO by passing customer values.
    Webconfig - appsettings section
    <appSettings>
    <add key="StorageConnectionString" value="blogstorageconnectionstring" xdt:Transform="SetAttributes" xdt:Locator="Match(key)" />
    <add key="EmailSendTo" value="[email protected]" xdt:Transform="SetAttributes" xdt:Locator="Match(key)" />
    </appSettings>
    Thanks in advance,
    Logesh R

  • Import XML files from different server

    Hi All,
    We have successfully used JavaScript to import local XML files and generated the PDF files on InDesign Server CS4.
    Now, we need to import the XML files which are dynamically generated on the other Server. (Data Managemnt Server).
    Wondering what's the best way to do this?
    Can we pass the whole XML file content as a JavaScript Parameter? What about images?
    or Can Javascript Import an external XML file via HTTP, other protocol?
    The worst case I guess is to have a script to upload XML files onto InDesign Server........
    Also, is it possible to return the generated PDF back to Data Management Server (XML file Server)?
    Thanks,
    xin

    Hi ,
    Check the FM : /SAPDMC/LSM_F4_SERVER_FILE.
    Inside this FM , subroutine below exists.The main program for routine is /SAPDMC/LLSMW_AUX_020F02.
    Call this routine from your program. You will get the length in bytes from the field len of table pt_file.
    data:
      begin of gs_file,
        directory(75) type c,              " name of directory.
                                           " (possibly truncated.)
        name(75)    type c,                " name of entry.

    end of gs_file.
    DATA : pt_file LIKE TABLE OF gs_file.
    DATa : p_ok.
      PERFORM /sapdmc/llsmw_aux_020f02(directory_contents_get)
